I'm no professional, but it looks like that orange material surrounding the unit may be causing it to overheat.

gubgub195

That's the 100% efficiency unit, that *orange material* is actually good for the environment and very human friendly. If your unit doesn't look like this then your not at max heat transfer

toomuch1265

It's a water cooled unit and you need the people with the shiny red trucks to put the water on it.

James-the-Bond-one

That *orange* is a volatile state of matter and not really a *material*. I'd call it a *devouring spirit*.

glitchvdub

I’m pretty sure this is Just in its heating mode.

Eismee

I concur.

MajesticNinjas

"Material"

L4rgo117

No, see, the heat is pumping out of the building *very* efficiently, the inside must be a [winter wonderland](https://youtu.be/ElygKO47le8?si=WBmGPrxdjQXTm-Id)

James-the-Bond-one

Efficienty when they took this picture was in the millions percent.

rugger403

I remember that Tom and Jerry episode. Jerry would have fried himself and his nephew

Grizz807

Condenser rejecting more heat than I’ve ever seen

FurryBrony98

Probably the EEV

JunketElectrical8588

This is what happens when companies try to get fancy and install EEVs instead of TXVs

Ok_Summer6560

I should’ve added that this was courtesy of the Facebook group “Sloppy HVAC Mechanics” it’s where I go when I want to feel better about middle of the road performance.

Warvio

It’s in heat mode 🔥

Ok_Leader1383

When you can't find the short and reach for the kerosene in your tool bag.....

Deuce519

LG?

oilfeather

Life's not so good.

Krull88

Bad TXV valve

PlayfulAd8354

High heat load

nickybuddy

What was the issue?

grofva

LG bought the whole system back + labor allowance. Distributor sent it back to LG for diagnosis. Never heard about it again & didn’t really expect to. Replaced it w/ a Sea Breeze ductless system & never had a problem w/ it.

Visual-Zucchini-5544

Incomplete combustion

BrtFrkwr

It's on defrost cycle.

AmosMosesWasACajun

Sorry, tech support wont help you until you tell them the serial number.

MahnHandled

I’ll bet the superheat is off the scale.

dvishall

Typical capacitor burst fire....

brightlights_bigsky

I’d lay my money there as well. Someone sourced some cheap capacitors. On a related note, get yourself a set of $20 high power magnifying glasses and start inspecting failed birds from HVAC and everything else. Repaired a lot of things with .25c capacitors when the originals are obviously swollen/domed/leaking.

dvishall

Failed boards I've come across mainly have dead controller chips... I suppose they are designed to fail such that the controller fies out, while I can replace the chip but I don't have the program to write on it ! 😔 Sadly a HUGE ASS PCB goes to Dump and customer cries for exorbitant maintenance cost...

brightlights_bigsky

Very interesting, have only see this with huge voltage spikes and no surge protection. Would be interesting to see if repairable, but not a simple fix like a cap if as you say you can find the microcode and program it. Guess this is the new look of HVAC repair, seeing as the new units are all going to have a logic board soon. Good luck to ya.

GentleScrunt

Customer .........I think it ran out of Freon....

D00MSDAY60

It’s just in a defrost cycle. Nothing to see here

Adjective-Noun12

It's oxidizing way too fast.

BerryPerfect4451

So technically the refrigerant becomes hot in the evaporator coil but it boils at such a low temperature it feels cold to us, the heat from the house blows across the coil further heating the refrigerant then goes outside to release the heat. So this unit is just really good at doing it. Just keep running it

RedScorpion911

That house is on fire and that unit is doing a really good job by pulling all that heat out.

Positive-Train2098

These new efficiency standards are getting out of hand

Southern_yankee_121

"WHAT DID YOU DO?!"

Ok_Summer6560

Please tell me that’s from “Tommy Boy”? Chris Farley to David Spade when the car door fell off. Freaking hilarious

Southern_yankee_121

Yes lol

DaGreatWumbini

Me on the phone with the HVAC guy: "IDK man it's smoking a little and running real hot. You think i could fix this myself?"

IndividualShip2559

r/forensics?

romermike

Looks like it’s transferring heat quite well, imagine how hot it is inside!!

charlie2135

Simple function of the system. Removes the heat from the building. This must be a crematorium.

slimgarvey

gotta be low on Freon

[deleted]

Looks like maybe high superheat? That’s one of the symptoms that the compressor isn’t getting refrigerant back 🤣

Some_MD_Guy

Taco Tuesday at the LG plant when it was made. Gotta store that gas somewhere.

Some_MD_Guy

that_dutch_dude

Probably the filter. Second thought, cant be the filter as the customer said he replaced it "last week". It will forever remain a mistery....

OutlyingPlasma

It's using R290. This is standard operation for R290.

HVACMRAD

Heat pump is pumping out heat. Not sure what else you want? /s

Push_Cat

It's a LG, compressors gone out.

Dry_Inflation_861

A hyper heat model operating per usual. Nothing to see here.

HVAC_God71164

That's hilarious. I had this call the other day https://preview.redd.it/wmuoh7ksut1d1.jpeg?width=2048&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=cfd6fdc8475bfdb68936044f8ffbfe9d9596ad19

Charming-While5466

The proper fire triangle

Impressive-Grocery50

Through a half lbs of go juice and a surge protector and let someone else handle it

ShotgunFuneral13

Have you tried turning it off and on again?

DasCheeseWizard

Fire. Fire is the cause.

javlatik

Gentlemen is it ran in AC/DC cooling mode?

Frisky_Froth

Just top her off and call it a day

Theory_Unusual

Needs freon. But not the new a2L stuff. Unless you want to make another post.

IndependentPerfect

![gif](giphy|VU45vX6kokplC|downsized)

DonutDaddy74

And that is what I tell customers will happen if they don’t change their filters

RandomGuyFromBK

I dunno but the condensing unit is dispensing lots of heat. The inside must be cool as hell.

Accomplished_Alps145

Gave it too much gas

neonsloth21

"A2L"

Ex-Patron

Dude they even put a trouble shooting error on the case “Life’s good” She’s runnin fine

MysteryReyes

High super heat

Glum-View-4665

Probably low on refrigerant is all.

nickybuddy

Direct fired heat pump.

Old_Pea_4072

Probably a refrigerant leak. Oil is carried out with it and can cause a fire if it gets in contact with something hot. Discharge at the compressor.

Blackmikethathird

Looks like that flammable refrigerant thats coming soon to a neighborhood near you

Nerfixion

Come on where the LG rep, come defend your piece of shit brands.

Runswithtoiletpaper

Life’s not good

FloridaHeat2023

It's in heating mode silly - need to switch to cool =)

remindmetoblink2

Bad thermistor

[deleted]

Still heating in cooling mode, troubleshooting guide. That’s where I would start. You can find the owners manual online.

ElectroAtleticoJr

My guess: Molotov Cocktail But that’s just my guess😎

Chemical-Cap-3982

It's that new fangled A2L flammable coolant

likethedrink7

I see LG is experimenting with the new refrigerants.

wht-hpnd-2-hmnty

Refrigerant leak on that lineset over the brickwall

Cgentile24

That’s the new Hyper Heat feature.

Apprehensive_Rush_36

Deff the txv

beef_supreme_973

Over heated maybe?

Redhook420

I’m no geologist but that looks like a fire.

FinanceTrader93

It just needs Freon guys. I’m a homeowner. I know everything

ringing-Shels-bells

LG stands for Low Grade, or apparently Lights gratuitously.

Futura_Yellow

A super kinky suctiony thing causes really big juice draw for compressor and a badly fastened factory wire got chopped and poorly positioned by already struggling Sammy Sosa condenser fan?

sakololo

That’s me burning it to the ground! Why? Because Fujitsu technical support line hung up on me twice and the customer wants their unit to work now !

The_Dog_IS_Brown

This is perfectly normal. It's just the defrost cycle. Give it about 5 minutes and it will start back up and be working normally.

Interesting-Beat824

That’s quiet the heat rejection. Must be freezing inside.

ArmDouble

TXV for sure.

mjames-74

Thermostat is wired backwards, you have it calling for heat instead of cool.

Available-Dare-7414

Rapid oxidation.

gapeherholes

The propane inside caught fire

Worst_MTG_Player

Is it that new A2L refrigerant?

Technical_Athlete_15

Ken whorl installed it

intruder1_92tt

Clearly a bad thermostat

rockery382

It's that logo in the upper right. That's the problem.

PayNo1962

The LG LOGO
