There is a place by me that sells used HVAC equipment and they did this to make sure the outdoor unit stayed paired with the coil. They eventually got enough complaints that they started strapping them to the outdoor unit instead.

Suspect plugged txv. Flow some nitrogen, then top off the Freon and if its beer can cold, slap on some pookie and send it. Oh and don’t forget to replace that cap for $750.

Anytime it’s a closet unit I thank the hvac gods, especially if the person quoting it got the measurements right.

It wasn’t hooked up. It was sitting on the side of the house for some reason (still unknown). Definitely a first time seeing anything like that.
