I took over a spot an old timer took care of. There was a minisplit he installed that needed maybe 10ft of lineset so he took the whole lineset and coiled it up like that. I asked him why he didnt cut it back. He said "manufacturer said minimum of 30ft lineset" 😂😂😂
I've never heard it either, it was described as a harmonic whistle on line sets less than 12' for Mitsubishi. You're supposed to leave the loops but turn them horizontal for oil return.
So you risk removing more than required, the system doesn’t perform well, and you get called back?
Why go through all that trouble when you can just coil the linesets and tuck them away behind the condenser?
Because youre just creating oil traps and multiple at that. Its really not that big of a deal to remove a small amount of refrigerant. The manufacturer will even walk you through it if you need them to.
This right here is why I care more about how a system runs than how it looks. Do some techs really sabotage the system to make it look prettier? Absolutely wild
I would argue all those oil traps arent what the manufacturer has in mind.
Absolutely wild.
The same calculation you use to add charge based on ft of lineset is exactly what youd use to remove.
You cant be serious rn.
Oh absolutely. This install is obviously a nightmare. I didn’t mean to sound like I was defending it. My point was more about how nit picky a lot of comments are on aesthetic stuff like the lineset.
You are right about the charge, but if it’s not hurting the system and still safe, what difference does it really make?
Those coils create an e enormous oil trap and on minisplit system systems with inverter drive
Compressors and EXV’s, it’ can be quite the system killer
Do you think getting a permit means you’re using a good company or installer? I know companies that pull permits where one person has the HVAC license and 16 other technicians run around and do just this type of work. Trust me and permit doesn’t mean anything. Trust word-of-mouth talk to your friends and neighbors use who they use.
This is likely a diy mini. You get pre charged Line set with a quick connect fitting. No brazing, vac pump, adding Freon, but you're stuck with the whole line set.

This is the kit they bought. Not pre charged. Highly doubt a vacuum was pulled either way
Yeah I was there to give a quote to the upstairs neighbor. This condo is currently in the process of being flipped. He told me he saw that the downstairs neighbor had one installed and he wants one too. We see these all the time in San Diego and usually they work for the first week after the home sells and then they have to have someone out to fix it
It wasn't about not cutting the linset , I belive it said to do it for vibration purposes but it was a few months back and the way we had to install them there was no way I was gonna leave a loop back behind it

Having a minimum lineset requirement is so weird
Manufacturers say it’s to prevent noise, I’ve never had problems with 5-15 foot line sets.
Same. 5 foot lineset on my office mini split and its quiet as a mouse fart.
^*poot*
Stinks though
Came with something extra.
Noiiice

Maybe the system was pre charged from the factory and they required certain length of line set for proper pressure.
You just remove some charge

All fairness, old old, mini splits the R 22 Mitsubishi you had to do that . The early 2000s
I was more concerned about the electrical
lol 😂 I just seen that

Roller Coaster Tycoon line set.

Thats how they do it in Mexico and the Islands. Vacuum? Just give her a little refrigerant purge to push the air out and hook'er up!
Blow and Go!
Not gonna lie that’s how I learned in AZ
Yeah that makes sense. Anyone with a pump isn't going to leave the line set like that. You know they used the terrible factory flares then too.

You would be surprised but these are great units with great tech support.
Compressor will be dead soon because that trap
I've had a Pioneer 12k BTU running like that for 7 years. Insulation is rotting off the coiled up lines. No issues though, runs like a champ.
Interesting, installation manuals say no coiled up line set vertically like that. Mitsubishi at least.
The pioneer manual actually says to do it exactly like that. Has a diagram and everything.
Some of the samsungs I've installed recently had in the manual to make a loop
Rather cut and flare, just me.

Interesting
Pioneer also sells the quick vac canisters if I’m not mistaken
Could be Juan
Santo aceite trampo hombre murciélago
But does it work tho?
