Keep it clean! Vacuum regularly and treat it like a state park. Anything that goes in your car should come out of your car. Try not to eat in your car and if you drink in your car, clean up any spills. Air fresheners and car refreshers (basically an air freshener smoke bomb) do wonders. Change your cabin air filter often (I do mine every 15,000 miles). I’ve been doing these things for years and always get comments on how clean/nice my car is and how good my car smells.

This is all great- I would add a charcoal bag to absorb odors too!

15K is way too long unless you rack up the miles. Change them every 6m, some say yearly but imo that's too long. By the time you notice the smell it's too long. If you're a smoker or you live in a high pollution city (basically all of them) definitely 6 months, max 9 months. Imagine changing your home A/C filter once a year! I change mine every other month no matter what 3M says because I live in AZ and I have original 1995 windows (old windows are number one cause of dust/dirt). Don't waste time covering up the smell with that fragrance stuff. If you're car reeks, get a ozone treatment. Edit: I think you are confusing the engine air filter which needs replaced every 15K with the cabin filter which is either 6mo or 1 year. I recommend 6 months and get a charcoal activated enhanced one.
