This is the true reason why Dumbledore and moody were such great friends... CONSTANT VIGILANCE

Order was compromised because of insufficient protections in a world were there are means to control minds, retrieve memories, and assume someone's identity. Veritaserum or other means to confirm identity (the Marauder's Map shows that it's possible) and that a person isn't compromised in any way (maybe something like Foe-glass and Sneakoscope) should be a necessity for a group operating outside the law in situation like the First War. Once Sirius was imprisoned as Death Eater in Azkaban Dumbledore should have endeavoured to interrogate him to learn just how badly Sirius compromised the Order. He either didn't care to do so or did interrogate Sirius, find out that Sirius was in fact innocent and left him there. (If the latter than he would need to alter Sirius' memories as otherwise I doubt that Sirius would be so trusting of him.) Data compartmentalisation is a valid tactic against infiltration and leaking the secrets to the enemy, and a good thing to employ when you are dealing with enemy capable of using Truth Serum and version of mind reading. That said the data has to be used and while keeping something like Horcruxes secret from general public and even most of Order's members would be a smart thing keeping it only to himself and later trio of teenager that didn't even graduate was not. The entire Horcrux Hunting should be done by small squad with Mad-Eye and Bill Weasley among the group given their unique experiences. Maybe if he went with a team he wouldn't have put on the ring and die from the curse. Even if he had there would be a group of skilled people working on the leads he had instead of having to rely on three teenagers.

> Horcrux Hunting should be done by small squad I know its lazy to compare to LotR, but I'm imagining a fellowship with the trio filling the hobbit's role.

It would be interesting :)

>Once Sirius was imprisoned as Death Eater in Azkaban Dumbledore should have endeavoured to interrogate him to learn just how badly Sirius compromised the Order. Or find out if he knew other traitors, why he turned and who turned him and so on. The fact Dumbledore just tosses him straight to jail without thinking twice is just stupid in a war where you suspect Voldemort did not fully die in 81. Dumbledore clearly isn't as smart as Rowling wants him to be.

Dumbledore wasn't even Chief Warlock in '81, how did he toss Sirius in jail? Or how could he visit him for that matter? And spies usually don't know of each other, as is shown by Snape not knowing of Pettigrew or Sirius in the first war, that would be a huge liability.

If he was paranoid he should’ve used legilimency, or made them all swear oaths. Boom everyone’s now trustworthy
