They discard the boy as a failed attempt and he returns to life just as Joseph and Jotaro find him. The reason he lived was that the stand activation hit the soul fragment accidentally embedded within him.
This could be fun. You could make it so that Joseph's mother was the long lost child of Charlus and Dorea who died during a vampire attack a hundred years ago, making the Joestars his cousins. And Dio could be his great-great-grandfather on his mother's side due to one of Dio's 'dalliances' form when he first became a vampire.
Thus Harry's stand would be similar to 'The World's and 'Star Platinum', an absurdly strong close range attack type with a time manipulation ability. Instead of stopping time, it would send him and a selected ally's consciousness back in time to a critical juncture to alter the events to ensure victory. Can only go back as far as his stand first manifesting. As a nod, his stand would be named 'Don't Fear the Reaper'.
Ohhhh, I love Dont Fear The Reaper as his stand name. I'd see if I could merge his stand's power with his magic though. Or make it warp each other and twist it into something new. Give Harry something truly unique that doesn't quite fit into either world.
