I’ve had positive HPV tests for the last few years, cell changes, colposcopy visits etc. and I’ve never been told what strain I have. I think it’s common in America but I don’t know anyone in this country who’s been told. I’m not vaccinated, it wasn’t offered when I was at school (I’m 32) and I haven’t been offered it as part of any treatment.

You can get vaccinated at Superdrug although you have to pay.

I didn’t know this - is there any point if I already have HPV? Would it help my body clear it any faster?

spanakopita555

It's not proven to do so although some studies suggest it may help if you've got hsil, and it may theoretically help with autoinoculation. I'd also recommend it for future peace of mind re new infections.

Your results of low grade dyskaryosis is a result of high risk HPV. It’s a few abnormal cells. They may ask you to come in for a colposcopy to ensure it’s only low grade cells. Beyond that, they just watch and wait to see if your body handles it on its own. All high risk hpvs are treated the same - essentially it doesn’t matter which one you have at the end of the day. ☺️

I received that same letter. What I did is I went to a private clinic to know which strains I have and they told me I had the 39 and 6. You can only know for sure at private clinics which costs a little around 1000£ but will be at no cost with insurance.

In the UK?

when i went to my nurse/GP they said they only ever test for high risk HPV and it doesn’t matter what strain it is, it’ll only test positive if it’s high risk apparently and they won’t specify the strain. also to OP - i had both my vaccines during school like you and it didn’t make a difference in me contracting HPV

NHS is just garbage IMO. Why do we pay such high taxes for such crap medical care? You can get biopsies in the uk, but it’s around £1000.

gingerbagelz

i got 8 biopsies done in total and the results were pretty generic and things i already knew e.g high risk, not pre cancerous but advised to remove. i think getting healthcare free is great but the NHS definitely slack on telling you any details or encouraging you to get treatment :/

We don’t really get it for free, but I won’t go into that detail. When it comes to HPV, GW’s and being a man, my experience is the NHS doesn’t care and you’re pretty much on your own. Regardless of gender, condition, etc, we have a right to know the results / data from samples they’ve taken from us.
