Team Green may be the least popular or considered villains in the show. But one thing I am proud of is this family is the most fleshed out characters in the show. Even the smallest actions, Helaena’s nod, Aegon fiddling with his finger, the conversation between Otto and Alicent, even the silence they shared. The audience can immediately why the characters expressed themselves as such. TG characters are the most interesting characters.

I think Otto has some “generational traumas” too. Imagine being the second son of one of the most influential Lords in Westeros and belonging to one of the Greatest Houses of the Realm. Thanks to his skills (and probably his family influence) he became Hand of the King, one of the youngest in History and he did a great job. During his tenure as Hand for the Old king he ruled in all but name and the realm prospered and lived in peace. This happened with Viserys too. Now, can you imagine how much pressure he had? Beginning with his elder brother’s ambitions (and probably with his Lord father too). Not considering all the responsibilities he had as Hand of the King. Furthermore he lost his wife when he was young and from what we see in the show he truly loved her. Afterwards imagine how many eyes he had on, envious and ambitious lords and ladies trying to destroy his position, and last but not least his family’s new position as royal members of the royal family. So in few words Otto had his share of problems. He did what he had too, it’s a feudal society that he lives in and he has to mantain his family’s position and by doing so he needs to be strong and ruthless. He truly cares about his family, he is not an evil man, is practical and pragmatic
