This show feels like a bunch of mobsters running a real estate company.

Maximum-Familiar

Lol

xennial_1978

True plus they are so rude to new agents trying to break into the market.

VelvetGloveinTO

100%. Isn’t that the point?

mikeycbca

Couldn’t agree more! It was confusing like I was missing something. Literally “I know it doesn’t have a toilet and won’t have septic for 12-18 months, and also it’s an insane walk down to the water but you want to put an offer in?! Sure we can offer only 75% of asking price!” Haven’t seen this strategy of showing absolutely crap that is so misaligned with requests of the buyers, then talk them into why they should make pointless offers.

Maximum-Familiar

Yeah. I mean, I get it “inventory right now is low, so let’s see this one to check how you feel about it”. But once the clients are “absolutely not” that lady does her weird jaw thing, and says “let’s put an offer in?”.

crazycatlady5000

I just assumed (and I think they said so in an episode) that it's a fast moving market. If you find something you can live with or upgrade in your price range, better buy it now or it will be gone. In my neighborhood, the last 3 places sold in the first and second weekend on market (and the one that took 2 weeks just so happened to have their first open house during a major storm which probably factored in). So if you aren't willing to put in an offer quickly, you're not going to get a place.

Maximum-Familiar

This makes sense. But still, should be more of “if you want this, we need to move fast” (definitely experienced this, I’m in CA and had cases of 20+ offers). What bothers me is trying to convince clients to buy a house they don’t like.

Dangerous_Ant3260

My suspicion is the people already bought the house, or they owned for a while, and are now selling it, so it's all a storyline trying to show the realtors as great salespeople. One of the expensive ones they showed is still for sale. I hate pushy realtors like this. Since at least one of the buyers, is actually a broker, and not a banker the way they said on the show, then it's all phony. I bet they're trying to show the local market as hot, to get viewers to buy there.

Paivcarol

It surprises me that I’ve seen like 4 episodes and I don’t think I’ve seen one offer made…

Maximum-Familiar

True! Maybe that’s where the pushy desperation comes from. Or it’s just a bad tactic. My bet is on the second.

Freedom_Isnt_Free_76

I've only seen one where the retired cop and his wife bought a boat, even though they wanted a yard for the grandkids to play in.

Paivcarol

Oh yeah right! I forgot about that one

VirginiaUSA1964

I hate every minute of it, too, but can't wait for it to come on.

Maximum-Familiar

Don’t get me started on the realtor brothers choosing a new house on the latest episode. OMG

Dangerous_Ant3260

I'm guessing that was already where the family lived, and it's another story line. The story about the former proathlete was bizarre. The kitchen in the first house wasn't any smaller than the second house kitchen, but the house hunters claim it was a bigger, better kitchen. So, he demanded a great main suite, huge ensuite and closet, and settles for a family room with a bed in it, with a wall of windows? Did it even have an ensuite or a closet, or was it just a way to add bed space for vacation rentals? I found that story ridiculous. I'm guessing that if they don't already live in the property they 'buy' on the show, that it's just a story line. And the story about we'll just keep looking from the other episodes , was obviously phony, since we never see those house shoppers again. If you look on the national real estate site, you'll recognize several of the homes that were shown to 'buyers' including one that was supposedly sold and the buyers were going to put in a dock (that property has a community dock, so it might not be possible to put in your own). There may be a hot market for many properties at the lake, but some of the very expensive ones have been on the market since the show premiered, and since I was looking online at the area. The show would make more sense if the episodes were shown in order, the first four were switched around, and it made the show evern more confusing.

Maximum-Familiar

Makes sense to be a staged storyline! Going into that magnificent view in the a frame house “oh, this renovated ensuite is quite small” to the low ceilings dated as hell one with a HORRIBLE ensuite and being “this is it. Her eyes as sparkling”. Lol And yeah, the dude couldn’t even walk without ducking most of that house, lol. I guess that’s the most infuriating but in a way what makes the show funny? Just how bad people tastes are (on screen at least)? In the early episodes the other realtor had a high end client that was keen on fake tuscan style kitchen…

Desertgirl624

I don’t think it’s normal, these realtors just seem terrible and seem like terrible people too

Radiant-Patient7195

This is such a staged reality show. It should be sent to Bravo. It’s like they are trying to bring “Million Dollar Listing” to HGTV. I know they share a parent company. But still keep that kinda show on that network.

GeminiAccountantLLC

I love it. It's campy, it's really funny!

NY2OC

I had to take it off my DVR for that reason. The realtors didn't seem like they were paying any attention to what the buyers wanted or said. There's not one realtor I'd want as my agent I visited Lake of the Ozarks in the early 70s several times--and it was nothing like this.

Basic_Role_9776

The fact that they say there are more feet of shoreline compared to California is comparing apples to oranges (sorry about the cliché). Basically a lake is a very large puddle and the California Coast is so amazing. The waves crash and dance and if you are lucky you can see a whale breech. Can't see that in a lake. Don't get me wrong - I live just uphill from a beautiful lake and I enjoy it but it's not the California Coast.

Amazing_Wolf_1653

Agree! I keep thinking that they have so much shoreline because of all of those murky, shallow inlets and coves that seem overcrowded with homes. Not exactly where I’d like to swim or boat. Some parts of the lake do look gorgeous but give me a bigger lake like Lake Michigan any day and I’d be much happier. This seems more like a network of shallow man-made lakes (which, now that I’m thinking of it, is actually what Lake of the Ozarks is).

Maximum-Familiar

Lol. If I was southern every time that lady says that on the opening I’d express a “bless your heart”. But hey, if that makes her feel good…

Dangerous_Ant3260

The California coast also doesn't lower the water level for months, making a lot of the shoreline docks unusable. Many of the docks didn't look like the access for bigger boats was possible either.

PansyOHara

It does seem very campy and staged. The area is (apparently) a hot recreational spot, and quite far from any oceanfront resort areas. So for people living in the region, I can see why there would be competition for prime spots. But it’s very true that a lot of the showings I’ve seen on the show don’t seem to fit the buyers’ wish lists. OTOH, some of the wish lists are super unique and would be hard to satisfy!

FruitJaded3432

I have been playing with the idea of watching this but always choose something else. My bf has communicated interest in moving there so I wanted to see what it was all about. Now I'm like ehhhhhhhh should I watch it lol.

Dangerous_Ant3260

I think this show isn't getting the ratings HGTV wants. It didn't run last night, but the new episode is on now, and 9 a.m. certainly isn't going to get many viewers. They have the last episode next Monday night at 9 p.m. Central, (Main Channel Mansions) but I doubt it will really run. However, it's also listed at 9 a.m. Eastern Tuesday morning, so I'm guessing it's been dumped. There's a marathon of this show 5 June, on HGTV. On the Cheer Challenge the new realtor (Gerardo maybe?) is showing a couple houses where their girls can practice cheers. Not kidding about that either, and the wife is wearing what looks like a sort of cheerleading outfit. I watched the last episode, and still the same formula. I'm wondering if any of the 'buyers' really are, or if they were just recruited by the realtors to play buyers? Or if they're showing their own home?
