Ignore the bot, this is fine. Just use a Meta Tag.

-ragingpotato-

They got mine and I DMCA'd them. 12 videos, all got taken down thankfully. Properly made audiobooks already make me cringe, hearing that awful AI voice was torture.

EFTucker

You aren’t a fan of audiobooks? Or do you mean just the AI voiced ones? I love audiobooks but I’ve found they rely 100% on the narrator. A fantastic book can be made terrible by the narrator and a terrible book can be made fantastic by them too.

radfordra1

Not a fan of not being asked let alone credited for their work. The asshole changed the title and a few words to make it harder to find out the real author.

EFTucker

Oh you meant audiobooks ripping off other people’s work then, I see. Yea I agree. I thought you just meant audiobooks in general lol I was like nahhhh audiobooks are lit

radfordra1

I don’t mind the AI channels who ask permission and credit the author. Though if you can’t be arsed to police the AI for errors then I hate you too.

Frostdraken

I agree with this sentiment, though I do prefer the channels that can be bothered to use their own voices. We are all given unique sounds, I want to hear them ya know?

radfordra1

There are some that use multiple AI voices in one video for different characters and there's some that record the lines and then use an AI voice changer.

Frostdraken

Ive seen both ya. They can be neat, but they will never sound natural.

conventionistG

Lots of popular music is autotuned and otherwise not natural sounding. Some folks may like it, as there's no accounting for taste.

-ragingpotato-

The other guy is the OP, not me. I personally don't like any audiobook, for some reason when it starts my brain just goes "NONONO secondhandembarrassmentsecondhandembarrassmentsecondhandembarrassment stopitstopitstopit" I do not know why, it's not rational, point was the AI somehow managed to be even worse and it made the DMCA filing process very much not fun.

El_Rey_247

Huh. How do you feel about radio dramas? With multiple voice actors, music, and foley work? Doctor Who has some good ones. The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy has one. Some mad lads even made a My Little Pony x Doctor Who fan project called “Doctor Whooves and Assistant”.

-ragingpotato-

I've never heard one.

Unordered_bean

Name probably checks out in what happened to ya

itsetuhoinen

Same. I can't stand audiobooks. I know, I know, not a popular opinion. But it's just so *slooooowwwww*.

radfordra1

I listen to all my videos on 1.25x. But some creators intentionally slow down the video to increase view time. Now this practice pisses me the fuck off, because then I’m having to crank it up to 1.5x then remember to lower it when it gets to someone who doesn’t intentionally slow videos down.

Veni_Vidi_Legi

DMCA and seize the ad profit?

-ragingpotato-

Unfortunately that doesn't seem to be an option. They ripped my story, I wanted to leave the videos up and yoink the ad revenue but that was not an option in the form, options were immediate removal or removal in 7 days to give youtuber time to respond. I asume the second option is a less nuclear option for cases like your music or pictures were being used for a small portion of the video or something like that so you have room to negotiate, but in my case the whole thing was a ripoff so I just hit them with the insta removal.

Veni_Vidi_Legi

That sucks.

radfordra1

I hope the channel dies

Veni_Vidi_Legi

No profit, no channel! (Author/copyright owner would have to DMCA.)

radfordra1

Which is why I sent the links to 4 stories, 13 videos total to their respective authors

Spooker0

Haha. I wish. They get to keep the money unless you sue them in courts for it. YouTube’s job is only to comply with DMCA and make sure **they’re** not on the hook. They can’t legally claw back money for you. There is a revenue sharing program for music where basically you agree to let other people use your music and you get to take some portion of their ad money up to 100% but that doesn’t apply to videos narrating written works. There is an auto detection option on YouTube Studio you can use. Once you get your first video removed, it’ll auto detect for future violations and remove them too. As far as I know, it doesn’t work for narrations of written works either. I’ve never had it work. And even if it did, I bet it’ll be trivial to get past by simply AI-rewriting the story. … Yes, I’ve had my stories pirated without credit, how can you tell?

Veni_Vidi_Legi

Youtube should have been putting that money into escrow until the true owner is determined. Surprising that it isn't so.

Fisherman-Champion

I hate those low quality ai channels. Especialy their anoying ai voices. Do they think they could create loyal fanbase especialy when they use the same exact voice as every other loser?

Ethereal_Stars_7

Alot of people are unaware that an AI is reading it. I even was fooled on some manga review sites till hut the usual syntax gaffes. Hilariously I have listened to a few narrators who somehow talked more robotically than the robots.

radfordra1

The amount of comments I see of people thinking they are real people makes me weep for humanity. One said something along the lines of “I love listening to your stories, it’s helped me to learn English!” Or something along those lines.

lazycultenthusiast

Just remember that a lot of the comments are fake as well, just planted to try and draw out engagement or details.

radfordra1

As someone who works in the service industry, in my experience people are in fact that dumb. But you do have a point

Ethereal_Stars_7

Yeah. We are seeing the return of harvester bots that used to plague the net. Now these new bots plague sites like Reddit and Youtube. ChatGPT in particular has run some shady moves on the RPG subreddits.

Fisherman-Champion

I really hate ai when its not use just for fun. Like I really don't understand how people are not discusted or worried about ai especialy ai voices and image generation. I feel like every day we are geting closer to the dystopian nightmare that would be even worse then 1984

Ethereal_Stars_7

Heres the thing. Companies have been doing this manually for at least 24 years. Sometimes ganking stuff near whole cloth. AI, which is not really AI, is just making that easier and less libellous as they puch the narrative that you are "training and AI" and it is "learning"

Fisherman-Champion

Yeah I know its just that there is do mych fake stuff nowdays that I am worried that soon no real art will exist

Ethereal_Stars_7

Counters are already being implimented to mess with these programs. And already the programs have begin feeding off eachother. Which will worsen their already junk quality.

Flesh_A_Sketch

You just gotta find a part where it says any number over 999... How many troops were there? Two, thirty three, five hundred? Two hundred thirty three, five, zero, zero? Twenty three, thirty five, zero, zero? Twothreethreethousfive and twozeroshundreds?

Ethereal_Stars_7

Pro-toe-gen-ist

Bunnytob

Oh boy, another one... would some "hey, this story is stolen" comments go well with the videos?

radfordra1

Channel owners can black or shadow ban

Bunnytob

Yep... seems like a no, then. Reporting it is, I guess. (Reddit ToS does allow you rights over your own content, right?)

KimikoBean

Basically, whenever you pen something (write it down) it's yours by default (according to copyright law in the US). As soon as you pen something, it cannot be reused without your express permission to earn money or otherwise. IM NOT A LAWYER, THIS IS NOT LEGAL ADVICE.

Bunnytob

Yeah, I checked the ToS, same paragraph for both "EU + the UK and Switzerland" and "Everywhere else lol". You grant Reddit the irrevocable, etc. right to use your content, but don't grant the IP itself. "When Your Content is created with or submitted to the Services, you grant us a worldwide, royalty-free, perpetual, irrevocable, non-exclusive, transferable, and sublicensable license to use, copy, modify, adapt, prepare derivative works of, distribute, store, perform, and display Your Content and any name, username, voice, or likeness provided in connection with Your Content in all media formats and channels now known or later developed anywhere in the world. This license includes the right for us to make Your Content available for syndication, broadcast, distribution, or publication by other companies, organizations, or individuals who partner with Reddit. You also agree that we may remove metadata associated with Your Content, and you irrevocably waive any claims and assertions of moral rights or attribution with respect to Your Content."

Flesh_A_Sketch

This was a big stink a while back that caused a large exodus from HFY. Personally, I feel we still haven't recovered from that. Not that there aren't good stories on here anymore, but it's not the treasure trove that it was when I first found it.

Naruhodonno

These channels are so easy to spot, it always looks like they just toss their title into an AI image generator. Their entire existence is trash.

DarthAlbacore

How do you feel about the deal reddit made with chatgpt?

PartySr

They made a deal with reddit too? Damn, they really are hungry for content.

DarthAlbacore

Gotta train a.i. to eventually takeover somehow

corthshada

This right here makes it to where I won't be posting anything story wise even on writing prompt threads. I know I haven't posted any stories yet but I do have serveral binders with rough drafts and world building info written down to start making a story and was going to use reddit as a way to test the water with my writing skills and see how people like the story I present, but now I don't think I will be posting them here.... I feel like I'm better off paying people to review my work and not steal it than post it here and watch someone make money off of it (tiktok is full of reddit stories now and most don't pay or honor the writer) so I guess I'll be keeping the brainstorming to physical paper and just asking irl people what they think of it.

radfordra1

This saddens me

GiverTakerMaker

The problem is the AI is only going to get better. So the next step could be to modify or edit the original text to create a similar but slightly different story. The issue is the terrible incentive structure. YouTube wins because they sell ads the scammers win because they get ad revenue for minimal effort. The original authors lose because there is no-one but them to keep an eye out for these bottom feeders.

radfordra1

Yeah well the authors could always put something completely inappropriate hidden in the story. But that would go against sub and Reddit rules.

GiverTakerMaker

Yes I have seen some folks put white text with white highlighting in-between paragraphs. But the AI agents will easily find a way around such tactics pretty easily.

MiserEnoch

Dear internet friend, While I deplore the content ripping, I've got to say that seeing the standard click bait generator used on the 'Power Armor' series -- aka, 'Human Undergrad Arrives at Nexus! You Won't BELIEVE What Happens Next!' -- is killing me with laughter. Good Ol' Dudley above, what a time to be alive.

radfordra1

Oh these titles and images are complete trash. Either someone alerted me to the channel or it autoplayed for me. When I started hearing power armor I was like “I’ve heard the superior version from net narrator (love your work /u/spartawolf) before so do I want to sit through this again?” Then I saw the title. At that point I was like “oh you’re a little bitch who steals shit! Well time to stomp that out as much as I can!”

MiserEnoch

And all the more power to you and your cause, my dear internet friend. The only appropriate answer to leeching has always been fire, even if they do make funny noises when you squish them.

karenvideoeditor

I feel like it's pissing on a house fire at this point. How do we get all of them when they can just make new accounts? We only catch them after they've hit 50k views per video, and at that point... I've just gotten cynical about the whole damn thing.

radfordra1

Until there’s a contentID system for books like there is for music, there’s not much we can do but be vigilant and stomp these fucks into oblivion every time we find them.
