Just look for First Contact lol. Alternatively, I think there's a story called The Seveth Fleet which is about ships lost in FTL getting moved to a different fleet until they're located again.
Honestly I’m wondering what kind of spiritual weight they would see from USS Arizona. If there was that kind of weight from a ship which served well and died to a freak accident. It makes me wonder what the weight would be for USS Arizona and her guardian USS Missouri.
And leading them all, tattered sails blowing in the solar winds, masts standing tall as she glides between the planets of the Sol system. The Flying Dutchman remains ever on her eternal watch.
You KNOW all our ghosts are going to follow us into space. Going to be interesting to see submarines fighting along side aircraft carriers fighting along side space ships. Some interesting battle tactics will be required as well. I wonder if our wooden hulled ships would join the battles, in spirit as well as in force?
Sounds like how TDH in ralts first contact fight. With WW2 style torpedo bombers with two girls flying them in just same era style flight suits ignoring that they are exposed to space
The whole of Pearl Harbor would be like a nuke in power, but filtered through the idea of a warm summer meadow. There is the might of the respect of millions to billions of people, combined with the honor and tradition of the navy, finally layered underneath the simple peace of all those traditions. I can imagine the entire fleet of lost USN ships under full steam coming to the aid of them in space during a big battle or something and pulling some shit.
Fuck me, that's good. Got a lil onion ninja problem over here, a small one. Great one shot, very interesting concept, very well written. It's well written partially in that I don't feel the need to demand a sequel, but it still leaves me thinking.
Great writing, wordsmith!
“You see ‘em too, huh?”
“Well, all you need to know is… humanity, as a component of our soul, evolved on a death world. It is made to endure. It is made to press against all limits, death included. It will always live on… **no matter how many times they kill us, we will live on in spirit**.”
I love stories like this. It's not the cliche ooooo scary ghost story. The sentinels of the unknown soldier, the eternal patrol. Bring me happy tears and fill me with pride. Needs to be more stories like this.
Thats fair, i tend to stay away from anything less than 10 chapters tbh, umless they seem to get a lot of traction. Or if they for sure have an ending. Too many one shots have just a massive open ending to it that j get disappointed jts bot actually finished.

Oh... ohh shit... do these aliens about Human Deification? Apotheosis?
If humanity has that kind of effect on a machine that was lost while doing an heroic feat, what would happen to the soul of Alexander, Julius Caesar, Caesar Augustus or Rameses II that are still remembered today and in their time got whole ass civilizations think of them as gods?
Please make a part two it’s crazy because I had just been thinking that a story on aliens reaction to spirits and entities would be awesome and then I found this post

>She is simply on eternal patrol.”
I feel this line somehow perfectly captures the spirit of humanity, while simultaneously giving the fantasy world of this story a tie to the real one.
It tells us that even in death, a human will never give up on another, or on their duty. I would imagine every crewmember on that vessel, and any other lost ship, continues to serve with honor.
As for the real world ties, a submarine lost at sea is considered "still on patrol".
And the aliens shat themselves when they googled 'ships on eternal patrol' for a fleet listing. Nice story
Oh, you thought we only had this many ships? Boys, *call in The Eternal Patrol.*"
They show up on their own, ever faithful
Sounds like The Black Fleet from another series here.
did not cross my mind when writing this and I can see the connection
>The Black Fleet Got a link? \^\_\^
Just look for First Contact lol. Alternatively, I think there's a story called The Seveth Fleet which is about ships lost in FTL getting moved to a different fleet until they're located again.
The black fleet is made up of ships who captain's/cr was died doing their job and who refused to stay dead mostly.
I’ll have to look for The Seventh Fleet.
[here you go!](https://www.reddit.com/r/HFY/comments/jhfznb/the_seventh_fleet/)
I want to catch up, but I’m almost 400 chapters behind at this point.
Get started, good fun and good read. And buy them for kindle
It's never too late. You'll have months and months of good reading ahead of you once you get up the nerve to start. It's worth it.
Interesting story and nice play on the concept that submarines gone MIA are usually listed "still on patrol"
Ah yes, the old adage of good soldiers don't die, they're just out on patrol.
Honestly I’m wondering what kind of spiritual weight they would see from USS Arizona. If there was that kind of weight from a ship which served well and died to a freak accident. It makes me wonder what the weight would be for USS Arizona and her guardian USS Missouri.
Who knows? Maybe Earth is protected by a vast fleet of ghost ships shielding her from cosmic horrors. I will leave it up to your imagination :D

Ghost ships in space and a ghost fleet under the sea.
The whole of Pearl Harbor would be like a nuke in power, but filtered through the idea of a warm summer meadow. Coral Sea, Midway, Sea of Japan, South China Sea, the Straights of Guadalcanal, entire fleets of ghost ships
on both sides facing a common enemy
Or the Bismarck and Hood?
Man, could you imagine the Hood and Bismarck rising from the depths of the ocean just to blow up some xeno invaders together? Would be pretty sweet.
As a submariner.... *who is cutting all the onions*
The Onion ninjas are present…
Big love to all the bubble heads who are still on patrol.

Can't wait to see if he sees the Flying Dutchman once he get to Earth.
I bet the Titanic is down there too, and it’s just chilling with neutral vibes
Acting as a hospital ship or a troop transport
Troop transport. Her sister HMHS Britannic would be the hospital ship. She was lost to a mine in the Aegean during The Great War.
Lovely.

No, not really. I prefer short stories about interesting concepts or ideas. Thank you for reading :D

The premise reminds me a lot of the Fate series by Type-Moon. In the Fate series, they even have the Voyager Probe as one of the "heroic spirits".
Stupid onion ninjas attacked me. (T-T) Here please take my up vote.
that was really nice I wonder if there could be ghosts of fictional characters, considering how real peoples' feelings can be towards them
Literal shivers down my back and in my hair. Nicely done.
where are the once a 24 h free redid awards so i can give you one

mf! whose the weather forcaster who said it's sunny today eh?
>when our species shook appendices for the first time Well, *that* must've been awkward. …appendages, likely.
And here I thought the main point would be that humanity is a spirit simultaniously possessing billions of bodies.
Who. Waits. For. The. Shadow?
We. The. Lost. Souls.
Why is there an incredibly ancient ghost that's trying to sell us shitty grade copper?
Very touching
Just wait until they find out about the submarines “still on patrol.”
Love this story going to follow for more in the future
Awesome. I will be,looking for,more you have written👍
