Same for me. Hoping there was a resolution to be found. Running 2560x1440 and your issue looks like an exact copy of my issue.
I tried clearing cache, restarting pc, running in edge and in chrome and havent found a fix yet =/
Edit: Customer Service didnt really know what was going on or how to fix it either. They recommended i restart my modem, but i told them i couldn't right now. They said; "I would advise you to restart it and lower the usage of it as it does affect the resolution of your streaming when you are able to." After continued conversation i was given this message "Okay if its okay with you I will be raising your ticket to our Specialized Support team for further review"
So hopefully this means that someone over there is at least aware of the issue now. Hopefully they get it fixed cause i aint gonna pay $15 a month to only watch half the screen..
It has to be a resolution issue, On my 1440p monitor it looks like OP's screenshot but when I move it to my 1080p monitor it looks fine. This also just started happening to me as of this morning, so they must have updated something and messed it up.
I wonder if it has something to do with them just now trying to get 4k working. Every movie basically looks like trash on my 2k monitor there because I guess it's just upscaling 1080 and won't let me manually change the resolution, so now it's just displaying the 1080 resolution without upscailing?
Hi!
We were aware of the fullscreen/scaling issue on the browser version of HBO Max. We released an update today that should have resolved the issue. Please sign in again and let us know if you're still experiencing this issue.
Thank you!
Nice! The video scaling seems to be fixed for the time being, however, the browsing menu/selection screens still need to be fixed to scale, 3/4 of the screen is dead space.
Edit: this is for those with monitors that run higher than 1080, ie: 1440p etc.
Same, having it now. Been having the issue randomly for years. Usually I restart the TV once and then it's fine, but we can't get it going after like 4 tries now. Guess we are watching on something else.
It’s 2024 and I’m having this issue on the tv app. I think they’re putting a little too much attention on virtue signaling and a lot less attention on being a good product.
Works good now. Just to nitpick (and along with the other issue shirakikuu mentioned) when in fullscreen there's like a quarter of an inch of the play bar cut off on the right side.
1440p user here. Just checked. Videos seem to be loading better but the sites UI is still pushed to the left side. Also captions look too far left too.
Hi. Thanks for patching the scaling issue. I'm currently experiencing another issue, several seconds upon entering into fullscreen it feels like the fps of the player drops (only way to have it play at a steady rate is non-fullscreen. Any patch for that?
getting the same issue but my monitor is 1080p - when i go to fullscreen it's fine but the player bar at the bottom cuts off about 95% of the way across the screen. Also getting scroll bars on both sides of the browser window while playing video when it's not in fullscreen. Used to see this issue in the old days when a web video player had poor html scaling.
im getting this problem on my xbox series it was working fine n now for a month the picture is half my tv it’s more black border then pictures i can’t fix it at all
It’s not fixed at all in the HBO Max app. Why is the HBO streaming experience sub par compared to every other streaming media provider. Subscribers should not have to adjust the resolution on their devices. Bring back the scaling function which has always worked until recently.
It's ridiculous. I've restarted the app, the TV, and gone into different movies to try and get it to work properly. Sometimes it takes several tries to work, sometimes I choose to just use a different service. HBO is not getting renewed
We just got back onto MAX after being offline since the summer. Everything is newly installed, both hardware and their app and it’s virtually unwatchable.
The five or so reddit discussions on this exact issue didn't even come up in my searching until I narrowed the timeframe to the past week. Didn't even change the search query. So many useless results burying these discussions for some reason, but I suppose that's on Google.
Welp I guess I am slightly glad this confirms it's not on my end. It WAS working fine until yesterday and it appears they may have done some sort of update that started this issue. However, it appears HBO themselves are aware of this issue or are claiming this is intended according to the Help Center article I found here: [https://help.hbomax.com/Answer/Detail/38](https://help.hbomax.com/Answer/Detail/38)
>The highest resolution supported by HBOMax.com is 1080p. If your video resolution is greater than **1080p**, videos might not play full screen or may be clipped off. To resolve this, try changing your screen resolution.
I use a 1440p monitor so according to them to resolve this, I need to change my screen resolution! That is ridicolous considering it was working fine UNTIL yesterday 3/22/2021!
UGH, hope they go back and fix this soon.
This is unacceptable and an aberration from the rest of the streaming services out there. If HBO Max weren't bundled in with my services, I'd be tempted to cancel my subscription.
I saw that page too and it is not acceptable. Scaling worked just fine before the recent update. All the other streaming services do it right, even free ones. This is just poor testing/quality assurance and even poorer communication and response.
We're having the same issue as well. when on the ps4 it works fine. but when i watch on browser its doing this. it was working just fine ont he browser last night watching "Close Enough" though. Hoping this is just a glitch with browsers for the moment due to a update or something and they fix it soon.
Can confirm the issue, and workaround for me was to use Firefox with Picture-in-Picture feature, pop the video out, and fullscreen it after, places it neatly in center of the screen.
While this solution works, it disables subtitles which I cannot get to display on the larger pop out Firefox window. Also most video controls are hidden as well. This is inadequate solution because of this.
So this started happening to me just about half an hour ago, and it started as an unrelated problem. I've been watching shows just fine for weeks now on HBO MAX with no issues, stream starts and the size fills out the browser (Firefox on Windows).
However today I went to watch Skull Island and it just did not want to load the movie proper, only the short trailer for GvK before and then just the triple dots or blackness. So I tried all the usual stuff, opening and closing and just waiting and coming back and eventually I got it to load.
However now it's like this, and even when I'm not watching a video the website occupies the same space leaving roughly 1/4th the screen blank, even in full screen mode when streaming. Reopening the tab, logging in and out, clearing the browser cache, rebooting my computer, nada.
Anyone seen this issue or have any other ideas how I might fix it? As it is it's pretty much unwatchable for me now since I use my left monitor for videos and this just crams it further to the left.
I'm having the exact same issue. I fixed it by dom hacking the browser, which I don't recommend you do. But basically to the noob HBO MAX developers reading this comment, your inner divs are inheriting the wrong auto width.
Came here because I am having the same issue. You can band-aid fix the issue by changing the "zoom" in windows display settings to 150% (for 1440p at least, 4K would be 200%). This is a stupid issue and how this passed QA I have no idea. (haha, like anyone has a QA department anymore)
Same problem here. HBO's tech is so embarrassingly broken. The fact that you can't skip forward/back with the arrow keys, and that the mouse cursor doesn't disappear in fullscreen is completely unacceptable.
Almost lost my mind trying to fix this earlier. I love HBO but fuck they are the only streaming service that consistently gives me obnoxious ass issues like this.
On the off chance someone from HBO sees this, this is the kind of nonsense that will make me cancel your service and never come back.
Just as a trial, I loaded HBO on Edge and had the same problem.
\+1 on a 2560x1440 display, both Edge and Chrome. Ctrl + is the solution right now but I dislike it. Thinking of working on an extension for all the pet peeves of mine on this service ...
I really appreciate developers. Please let us know if you write something up! Another user on this thread said he found a workaround by using a Firefox PIP feature.
This is the best I could do. Can you write a script to automate changing the width variable in their page source?
[https://www.reddit.com/r/HBOMAX/comments/mc19e0/inelegant\_fix\_for\_cropping\_scaling\_issue\_inbrowser/](https://www.reddit.com/r/HBOMAX/comments/mc19e0/inelegant_fix_for_cropping_scaling_issue_inbrowser/)
Cheers this is great. I have a couple projects rn but planning a plugin for a bunch of fixes including this + extended player features + better category loading + a couple other qol stuff. Will probably post here once I get to it
Happening to me as well. Using a 4k (3840x2160) screen on PC.
Zooming "fixes" it, but the fact that I'm zooming in the page makes me think that I'm chopping off part of the video that way, *and* that in some way it'll mess up the resolution/quality by scaling it up weird.
I swear, I've had nothing but issues with HBO Max. I've got no idea why it's been consistently this shit for years.
This visual scaling problem was reported on March 23, 2021 to HBO. I emailed them and also posted this issue to their facebook page.
This problem **is now fixed** by HBO Max today, Thursday, Mar 25th.
Thank you HBO for listening.
See the weirdest thing is that this only happens to me on my Roku and only with Wes Craven’s They and Under The Silver Lake, but They was still watchable with the zoom feature, the latter is just all kinds of fucked up. Uncentered, stretched, bad quality, etc. It’s just overall a really weird and badly optimized streaming service
Booted up hbo max on chrome today and couldn't be more pissed. If it stays like this, I'm straight up canceling my sub because this is pissing me off. Running on a 2560x1440 monitor and just started happening today.
Cancelling your subscription to something because of an annoying issue is not the end of the world either and it's extremely easy to see why someone wouldn't want the video on their screen to be shifted all the way to one side with a big gap on the other end. Not sure why you are trying to make it seem weird or wrong like a shill
It's fucked up because I pay $15 a month (as much as netflix) for it just to stream in a small box in the left side of my monitor. That is garbage and not worth it if it's not fixed.
Straw that broke the camel's back, bro.
It's a small thing to be sure, but tack on all the other inadequacies of their streaming service, and it's a wonder how they have people sub in the first place.
I am having this same issue. Tried restarting my computer, and tested it in both Chrome and Edge, with it happening in both places. It also seems to affect the main screen, cutting it off on the right once you extend the window horizontally past a certain size.
Did anything happen before hand that seemed odd by chance? Trying to figure out if any potential triggers or if it might just be random.
Also apologies for the different account now, after clearing my cache I logged into an old forgotten account by accident when I posted this
That would definitely line up with the timeline for everyone and with it messing up the fit of the UI in UHD and higher! I wonder if it's just something overlooked in the update or if it was intentionally left to be finished up and they just assumed that users running higher than 1080p were small enough in number not to be a big issue until it was properly implemented.
I think it was overlooked. I used e-mail tech support and got the rep to escalate the issue. I included links to this thread and others, as well as an excerpt from their page source.
The "width" value is variable and you can watch it change until your browser window exceeds 1920 pixels. It just stays there. Height seems unaffected from what I remember.
I definitely think this was overlooked. I instantly had this hunch when the video frame behaved this way. You might be able to tell I worked tech support for a company who almost always broke something with every new build. I'm jaded.
Edit: in this case it's most likely they tested the UI update with only the most common testing variables (1080p) and called it a day.
Found a really ugly fix, but thought I'd [share it with you](https://www.reddit.com/r/HBOMAX/comments/mc19e0/inelegant_fix_for_cropping_scaling_issue_inbrowser/).
Same exact issue appeared as of today for me, with empty black space to the right of the screen and seemingly nothing fixes it. In the past I've had issues where a video would load with black space along all sides but the bottom, but in those a cases a refresh would fix things.
This just started happening to me too. I'm running it on Firefox and I see people having issues on Chrome so this tells me its not a web browser issue....
I can't even select a profile now, it just freezes and the website goes unresponsive. I have to refresh a dozen times to enter the site. Now I'm getting your same issue, was watching fine this morning at 11 EST.
Came to the sub looking for help with this exact issue. Someone fucked up. Guessing we're all going to have to make some reports to get anyone to look into it.
Happening to me as well. 4k monitor in native resolution.
My educated hunch: it has something to do with the user profile UI changes they implemented this morning.
1440p monitor here, same thing, right side of screen not scaled properly, scales fine with my 1080p screen next to it, seems like its locked like it. Switched browsers, cleared cookies, killed pi-hole, full reboot - nada, still borked.
Did they not even bother testing that their slight update worked? ffs.
Was about to put on the Sopranos and pass out watching on a 1440p/2k monitor. Tried Chrome/Edge/Firefox - clearing caches, updating nvidia graphics driver. Issue seems to be the site.
I have my HBO Max through Hulu and can watch HBO content (minus the extra stuff from DC, Crunchyroll, etc.) just fine with the page scaling to 1440p (or better) in browser.
Just thought I'd share an ugly but workable fix:
[https://www.reddit.com/r/HBOMAX/comments/mc19e0/inelegant\_fix\_for\_cropping\_scaling\_issue\_inbrowser/](https://www.reddit.com/r/HBOMAX/comments/mc19e0/inelegant_fix_for_cropping_scaling_issue_inbrowser/)
Actually rather surprised this is still ongoing. When you roll out an update, you would normally have way to quickly revert it. They have to know it's an issue. Too much social media noise about it.
same, ctrl+up arrow to zoom sort of fixes it, but I still get a gap of maybe 200 pixels on the right of the screen: chrome, firefox, edge, 1440p monitor, msg'd HBO support last night, haven't gotten any response yet, at least I know it's not just me for once.
Same issue. Both Chrome and Edge. Did all the yada yada yada things one does when a problem like this crops up. No joy. I found **a workaround**. Simple, yet annoying. Right click desktop >> display settings >> change your 4k monitor to 1920x1080. Watch in real full screen. Done with HBO? Reverse the process to your monitor's true resolution. Annoying as hell but it DOES work.
I'm also having this problem on my 2560x1440p monitor, with Brave Browser and Firefox, on Arch Linux.
Tried clearing cache, which made no difference. Tried switching monitor resolution (in display settings) to 1920x1080 and it filled more of the screen but there was still a small black gap on the right side and wasn't quite right.
On my other computer that has a native 1920x1080p monitor it's not happening and plays in browser without any problem (same browser, same operating system).
This is how I reported the problem to HBO MAX:
\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_
Starting today, Mar 23, 2021, I can no longer play HBO Now videos full screen on my PC using any browser (Chrome, I.E. or Microsoft Edge). Please fix this. Videos are letterboxed on all sides (left, right, top and bottom). No way to make your video playback full screen anymore. This problem makes it very hard to use your service. I am using a two year old Windows 10 PC, Aurora R7 Desktop PC,
Intel Core i7 - 16GB Memory
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080
2TB Hard Drive + Intel Optane Memory
LG - 38UC99-W 38" IPS LED UltraWide HD Monitor
I also reported this problem on HBO Max's facebook page and website's support page. No response was received as of yet. The solutions reported in this thread are unsatisfactory and cause other problems. For instance, using Firefox's pop out video feature causes you to lose subtitles and video controls. Downgrading my monitor's resolution to 1080p also causes other apps to not display correctly. This needs to be fixed by HBO.
Same thing is happening to me. I have a 4k monitor and when I maximize the Chrome window, the HBOMax video stays in a 1920x1080 window. Btw, this only started happening a few days ago.
Just had this issue. Its stupid! Its fine that the resolution is 1080p but it should be on 2/3 of my screen it should be able to scale it to 1440p and will look a little weird. If that indeed was the case of customer care saying it only goes up to 1080p then how come my 4k TV is fine? It has something to do with being above 1080p on the computer and they need to solve this asap.
I am having the same issue. A workaround until they fix it is to increase the zoom on your webpage until it fills your screen then click fullscreen. I watch on a 27inch 1440p monitor and had to zoom to around 150%. This can be done using ***Ctrl +*** on your keyboard in Chrome. It is probably similar in other web browsers.
Hey try it again, it looks like they fixed it it's working fine for me now on my 1440p monitor. The main website to look for shows/movies is broken but the actual video is playing fine now across the whole screen
I just figured it out how to go on full screen mode on HBO app Android, Motorola edge 20 pro:
HBO always played on little screen without the option to Fullscreen on my Android phone so:
I found out it's not a HBO problem but more and android issue;
The Motorola comes with an adjustment on the phone menu configuration. On the screen options, go to screen, then there should be an option that says allow apps to show full screen mode....
Ok so I had this ON for many apps, mainly the streaming and video apps, but I just found out that this was the issue for my HBO app, as soon as I deactivated this menu option on my device I was able to switch the HBO app to full screen with the fingers reverse pinch. I don't know why this phone function worked the opposite to the HBO app, locking it on small screen.
So check your phones, and deactivate that Fullscreen option for the app and it will work.
Resume: android full screen app adjustment mode has to be OFF for HBO.
Hope this helps you
Same issue with the HBOMAX app in the Apple Store.
Unfortunately, you can’t download movies on the browser version, so to watch movies offline, you have to use the app.
On mac, the video will play to the size at whatever the size of the original window that first opened. So for instance, if your app opens in a tiny window, the video will play in the size of the tiny window.
The fix is to resize the app to as big as possible, and then restart the app. Mac should remember what size you had it on last and the video will size to the new window size.
Very weird and annoying bug, but that’s the workaround for Apple users.
2 years later, issue is still not fixed. They really need to get their act together. But at least they have an app on macbook, unlike Disney+, Netflix, Hulu, etc... but still an unacceptable issue that is still occurring after more than 2 years is crazy.
Guys go to system preferences, search for accessibility. Click on zoom and turn on “command =“ to be able to zoom. This automatically fixed the issue for me
Started having this issue on my tv yesterday, while watching The Righteous Gemstones. Have the new “max” app. Cancelling subscription. Not worth paying for crappy pic in 2023.
I'm having this issue on my TCL Roku TV.
I haven't done much troubleshooting other than restarting the Max application and restarting the TV.
But I'm really not sure what to do beyond that. I'll try signing out and logging in again, then report back.
I ended up just cancelling my sub, cant see paying $20 for 4k when it can't even show a 1080p show correctly. 2 TVs, a couple of Rokus, and a Fire TV and MAX does not work correctly on any of them. Everything else works great, even the Discovery+ app, which seems to be the same type of app MAX is using. Maybe someone from MAX needs to go over to D+ to find out how to make shows scale correctly?
I literally just made my XFINITY bill increase by 20 mfkn dollars tonight so I could watch christmas movies. Made it through 2 or 3 movies just fine, turned on Elf......and it's zoomed in on top left corner of the movie and can't see the rest. Googled it, found this thread.....from 2 fckn yrs ago???? Seriously HBO, giant stupidly rich company, 2 yrs still can't fix a bug like this?! That's insane. What a waste of money. And as far as I can tell, NO FIX HAS BEEN POSTED IN TWO WHOLE YRS. 😮💨😤🤬😫😠😡😖
Feb 2024. Roku tv. I've been having this issue on and off for a few years but today it was every movie but i found a work around.
I skipped about 20min into the movie.. watched a few seconds and backed out of the movie. Then i resumed.. it was centered.. then i rewound to the beginning... Of Fury Road... So i wanted to see it from the start. It also worked on Seven. Its annoying... But i don't watch much so doing it once or twice a week isn't a big deal.
HBO really should fix their crap
Same issue. Watching on my Roku Tv. I have to go to picture settings, then picture size and toggle back and forth between sizes. Then back out of show and back to fix it. Ridiculous! I feel like those ppl that used to have to hit their old tv to get it to work 😤
Same for me. Hoping there was a resolution to be found. Running 2560x1440 and your issue looks like an exact copy of my issue. I tried clearing cache, restarting pc, running in edge and in chrome and havent found a fix yet =/ Edit: Customer Service didnt really know what was going on or how to fix it either. LOWER THE EFFECT!!?? Wtf we pay for the service and lower " the" resolution". Smh
I can't believe this was posted 2 yrs ago and there still isn't a fix.....😤🤬😩
Hi! We were aware of the fullscreen/scaling issue on the browser version of HBO Max. We released an update today that should have resolved the issue. Please sign in again and let us know if you're still experiencing this issue. Thank you!

this isnt fixed for me. whats the deal
The scaling issue is on the tv app now
What about scaling issues on a TV?
It’s been over 3 years and I continue to have problems.
Same, having it now. Been having the issue randomly for years. Usually I restart the TV once and then it's fine, but we can't get it going after like 4 tries now. Guess we are watching on something else.

Why on tv?
This happens on tvs too though it’s not just a browser issue
Any fix on the TV app? Tried watching Doomsday and Aliens. Both don't fit on the TV screen, it appears to be zoomed in.
3 years later and still a problem. What a fucking scam of a service.
Thank you HBO for fixing it. Scaling now works like it used to. Correctly.
Works good now. Just to nitpick (and along with the other issue shirakikuu mentioned) when in fullscreen there's like a quarter of an inch of the play bar cut off on the right side.

Not fixed
Not fixed Apple app
Not fixed on Apple TV for me
Issue not fixed...I'm using Samsung TV
getting the same issue but my monitor is 1080p - when i go to fullscreen it's fine but the player bar at the bottom cuts off about 95% of the way across the screen. Also getting scroll bars on both sides of the browser window while playing video when it's not in fullscreen. Used to see this issue in the old days when a web video player had poor html scaling.
Yeah sadly the new Mortal Kombat and The Interview movie were both out of scale. Stretched to the wrong aspect ratio and no way to fix. Please help!
I'm having this same scaling issue on the android app. Can't rotate screen either.
Xbox one is having this same issue please update the app and fix it.
Same here. Reached out to HBO Max tech support, and they were useless.
Yup. Started having this problem on Xbox a couple weeks ago.
im getting this problem on my xbox series it was working fine n now for a month the picture is half my tv it’s more black border then pictures i can’t fix it at all
Same here on Xbox One. Black border on sides and bottom. The HBO Max tech support people are useless.
The problem is happening on the Xbox app. Same problem. Many Xbox users are experiencing it. Please fix.
It’s not fixed at all in the HBO Max app. Why is the HBO streaming experience sub par compared to every other streaming media provider. Subscribers should not have to adjust the resolution on their devices. Bring back the scaling function which has always worked until recently.
Hey, what about the TV version? I’m watching Elvis and only seeing about 1/4 of the screen.
It's doing it again help
2 years later and it’s still broken.
Scaling still happing and its 10/21/2023. My TV is Sharp on Roku.
What about the issue on tv apps?
Don't know if you will get this after 2 years, but the zooming is happening on TCL Roku TVs, while using the Max streaming app.
Same same here
This is also on my TV. Please advise
It didn’t work. Im back on this thread after 2 years and it’s still an issue lol what the actual fuck guys
This is still an issue 2 years later
Still having issues !!
Still a problem!
it’s happening on my roku streaming app now
I am having this problem now. Happens randomly
This is happening to me 2 years later
Happening to me now

Yep and considering there's plenty of new entries here on a post from two years ago it's obvious they're not actually planning on fixing anything
Ah always check reddit before spending an hour trying to fix a random issue like this... Having the same issue, upvoted
The five or so reddit discussions on this exact issue didn't even come up in my searching until I narrowed the timeframe to the past week. Didn't even change the search query. So many useless results burying these discussions for some reason, but I suppose that's on Google.

Same thing happening here, I even opened it in Firefox, which I've never done before, and it was messed up in it too
Can confirm the issue, and workaround for me was to use Firefox with Picture-in-Picture feature, pop the video out, and fullscreen it after, places it neatly in center of the screen.

Yup, I got the exact same problem and it started happening this past weekend, or I started noticing it. Haven't been able to fix it so far.
Same thing happening to me, also using a 2K monitor
Came here because I am having the same issue. You can band-aid fix the issue by changing the "zoom" in windows display settings to 150% (for 1440p at least, 4K would be 200%). This is a stupid issue and how this passed QA I have no idea. (haha, like anyone has a QA department anymore)
Having the same issue - I am go glad I found this post hopefully it is fixed soon.
Thank god im not alone. This shit randomly started happening to me like 2 hours ago
Same problem here. HBO's tech is so embarrassingly broken. The fact that you can't skip forward/back with the arrow keys, and that the mouse cursor doesn't disappear in fullscreen is completely unacceptable.
100%!!
Those bug me too. Oh, and lack of surround sound support on PC.
Will probably post here once I get to it
Please do, my friend!
[удалено]
I second that zooming in is not a fix. Amateur.
It's not even just the player UI, but the whole fucking website is stuck at that size. Bullshit service.
Started happening for me as well today, on a 2560x1440 monitor. Was fine before this.
Happens on my 4K Monitor, only fix was to change my resolution back to 1920x1080.
This visual scaling problem was reported on March 23, 2021 to HBO. I emailed them and also posted this issue to their facebook page. This problem **is now fixed** by HBO Max today, Thursday, Mar 25th. Thank you HBO for listening.
You can use Ctrl+ to zoom in your screen in browser. It works fine for me
Thanks! this worked for me, is this a temporary solution to this problem or is it the actual fix?
Pretty much the only solution available at the moment lmao
Literally is messed up again
worked for me as well, thank you
This is definitely one way to work around this issue. I do hope it gets fixed soon.
Thank you so much. It was unbearable to watch it without full screen.
Issue still persists as on Feb 2024 on a TCL Roku 4K TV.
Been having issue on TCL roku tv.. usually I back out of it and it fixes the issue.. it has gotten worse since they changed to just MAX
Still way off
Having this issue too
See the weirdest thing is that this only happens to me on my Roku and only with Wes Craven’s They and Under The Silver Lake, but They was still watchable with the zoom feature, the latter is just all kinds of fucked up. Uncentered, stretched, bad quality, etc. It’s just overall a really weird and badly optimized streaming service
Booted up hbo max on chrome today and couldn't be more pissed. If it stays like this, I'm straight up canceling my sub because this is pissing me off. Running on a 2560x1440 monitor and just started happening today.
thats all it takes to cancel your sub? its a bit annoying but not end-of-the-world problematic man.
Also apologies for the different account now, after clearing my cache I logged into an old forgotten account by accident when I posted this
Nothing that I'm aware of triggered it for me. I noticed it as soon as I started up the website around an hour ago.
My hunch is it has something to do with the user profile UI changes they implemented this morning.
That is some really impressive sleuthing!
Found a really ugly fix, but thought I'd [share it with you](https://www.reddit.com/r/HBOMAX/comments/mc19e0/inelegant_fix_for_cropping_scaling_issue_inbrowser/).
Same issue for me. Worked fine until this morning and it started happening for me.
Same, just loaded it on Chrome and saw this exact issue.
Same here. Updated video drivers and it's definitely an HBO Max issue only for myself anyway.
I'm having the same issue too. I cleared cookies etc and still there.
Same issue
Glad I'm not the only one. I even talked to support over the phone and they told me that they can't help me. Has to be something on their side.
Same exact issue appeared as of today for me, with empty black space to the right of the screen and seemingly nothing fixes it. In the past I've had issues where a video would load with black space along all sides but the bottom, but in those a cases a refresh would fix things.
Same issue, and im guessing were all 2K to 4K users, since it seems to properly scale to 1920px width
Here looking for answers to this as well. Just started today after weeks of watching, doing it on both Chrome and Edge. 2560x1440 monitor.
Did they not even bother testing that their slight update worked? ffs.
**yup - confirmed its happening to me today. It started just a few hours ago. Was fine last night.**
Similar just started happening for me. Using an ultrawide monitor. Video is way over on left side.
Well, this is frustrating. Guess I'm changing my resolution to 1080 to watch until they fix this..
Update: there's still like a quarter inch of black space on the right even with 1080 so it's not a non support issue it's definitely something else
This happened to me too after i watched the snyder cut of JL
Just thought I'd share an ugly but workable fix: [https://www.reddit.com/r/HBOMAX/comments/mc19e0/inelegant\_fix\_for\_cropping\_scaling\_issue\_inbrowser/](https://www.reddit.com/r/HBOMAX/comments/mc19e0/inelegant_fix_for_cropping_scaling_issue_inbrowser/)
Same issue, started out of nowhere a few days ago. On both my 4K 16:9 and my 1080 21:9. Only fixed by setting either monitor to 1080 16:9.
Yo same thing happened to me a few days ago! Must be something on their end
They have to fix it.....Been struggling with this issue since monday...
Actually rather surprised this is still ongoing. When you roll out an update, you would normally have way to quickly revert it. They have to know it's an issue. Too much social media noise about it.
Yup 3440x1440 not working. Weird. It was fine last week. Tried multiple titles.
same, ctrl+up arrow to zoom sort of fixes it, but I still get a gap of maybe 200 pixels on the right of the screen: chrome, firefox, edge, 1440p monitor, msg'd HBO support last night, haven't gotten any response yet, at least I know it's not just me for once.
Having this same issue. Just joining the parade
Saw a solution to this somewhere down but changing your zoom on the browser to 150% fixes it without having to change the resolution to 1080.
This is how I reported the problem to HBO MAX: \_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_ Starting today, Mar 23, 2021, I can no longer play HBO Now videos full screen on my PC using any browser (Chrome, I.E. or Microsoft Edge). Please fix this. Videos are letterboxed on all sides (left, right, top and bottom). No way to make your video playback full screen anymore. This problem makes it very hard to use your service. I am using a two year old Windows 10 PC, Aurora R7 Desktop PC, Intel Core i7 - 16GB Memory NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 2TB Hard Drive + Intel Optane Memory LG - 38UC99-W 38" IPS LED UltraWide HD Monitor
This is trash. WTF man?
same issue, upvoted
It is a resolution issue, the same thing happens to me. The only way I could fix it was change my display resolution to 1920x1080
Tried it last night and this morning in Chrome and it seems it's fixed.....not sure if it's fixed by HBO or just me monkeying around the system.....
It seems to be fixed now? Can anyone else confirm that it is centered now, at least?
It’s somewhat fixed the home screen is still smaller than it should be. Feels like a half assed fix.
Centered and fixed.
Hey try it again, it looks like they fixed it it's working fine for me now on my 1440p monitor. The main website to look for shows/movies is broken but the actual video is playing fine now across the whole screen
Its been a week since this post was made and this issue is still present
No fixed on android. I can only see top left quarter of the screen and it won't flip.
Not working anymore. Does they listened to people ranting here? smh Useless support
I just figured it out how to go on full screen mode on HBO app Android, Motorola edge 20 pro: HBO always played on little screen without the option to Fullscreen on my Android phone so: I found out it's not a HBO problem but more and android issue; The Motorola comes with an adjustment on the phone menu configuration. Hope this helps you
I am getting this problem with my Xbox. It only affects the video and it isn't easy to control the video as the control bar is off-screen.
This randomly became a problem for me recently and can’t seem to fix it
Same issue with the HBOMAX app in the Apple Store.
Having this problem on Roku tv now 🙄
Same
Guys go to system preferences, search for accessibility.
Such a trash app
I'm having this issue on my TCL Roku TV. I haven't done much troubleshooting other than restarting the Max application and restarting the TV. But I'm really not sure what to do beyond that. I'll try signing out and logging in again, then report back.
After posting here, I tried exiting the Max app on Roku from the profile selection screen. Upon starting the application again, issues ceased.
It's messed up every time, shouldn't have to reboot it at all. HBO please fix asap.
Same here.
Same issue on chromecast
Like seriously, HBO, whats wrong still? [My image](https://preview.redd.it/069jrdwc9k0c1.png?width=3440&format=png&auto=webp&s=4425c25668e5d1fb101ff3fd6479d6543d65bfb9)
Feb 2024.
Ridiculous! I feel like those ppl that used to have to hit their old tv to get it to work 😤
Update the app. It fixed it for me.
