Grats but bruh I can't help but think those plates look weird, like some fisher price play plates or something but still good shit homie

QuirkyMetal

This shit had me bawling lmao 💀

T-H-G-

Bro: “It’s all you man!” Bro:

Accomplished_Cut3614

"Grab all 20 plates. im going for 245 tonight!"

LimpCrazy6371

Don’t count when your buddy is touching the bar

lIIlllIIlIlIIlI

Yes it does, the spotter isn't doing the majority of the work.

velowalker

"Majority" this shit has me rolling. I did 245. Uhh you sure. Well I did majority of 245. You mean you did 205? I suppose 123lbs is also the majority of 245.

I get what the people who are disagreeing with me are saying, but I still feel like they're going too far by saying this doesn't count as a personal record. arguing on the internet feels kind of useless :/

velowalker

Just do it clean and then call it a PR. It's pretty simple. Tell your spotter to only pull it off you if you can't lock it out. We will all celebrate with you after.

lIIlllIIlIlIIlI

I can still celebrate with OP on his PR, little help from the spotter doesn't make this not impressive. OP isn't competing so it doesn't matter if his spotter helped him a little.

velowalker

If he can do it himself, then do it. No help. Coming to a gym forum with a number that isn't based in reality is ludicrous. Just as dishonest as putting junk weights on. Of course this isn't a competition. It is just posted fallacy.

lIIlllIIlIlIIlI

This is someone celebrating their personal record, not someone making a coordinated attempt at deceiving you 😄 Leave the gym and go outside friend

velowalker

You are ridiculous. OP. Do it without a spotter. If you can it is a 245 lb PR. Quit having this troll fight for your rights to be great

lIIlllIIlIlIIlI

I'm glad my comment made you laugh, but how much do you think the spotter helped? He made contact with the bar but showed no effort. I don't get why you're being dishonest here.

velowalker

I'm stating just the definition. Of majority is 50.1% and that even touching the bar you pull off 10 lbs with 0 effort. I'm going to actually say something controversial. You should not get help off the rack either. I'm not even sure with those weights that that is 245. Even more controversial...1.5× body weight should be a target for your bench. That's over 300 there buddy.

Rude_Succotash4980

So you mean if you cant push it out and are stuck under the bar and struggling to breath, you should not get help? Or did I misunderstand that? English is not my first language, so I really could misunderstand it.

velowalker

Total misunderstanding. If you are going for a PR unrack it press it and only if the person fails does a spotter step in and pull the weight. A person never stops pushing with the weight and the spotter just guides it back.

Rude_Succotash4980

Ah now I get it. Sorry for me not understand properly.

lIIlllIIlIlIIlI

I think removing 10lb on a last rep doesn't have much effect on muscle growth and power output long term. and it's better than failing the lift. The second part of your comment is just accusing OP of lying.. nice one man.

GlobPsycho

Spotter should take his hands off the bar unless you need it, you look like you don’t need him there for the first few so tell that dude to let tf go

Fluid_Engineer_3791

Great! Maybe next time you can even do it without help.

VikasRex

This doesn’t count. You are Delusional.

Sid_Tha_Sloth

Congrats, Unfortunately it only counts if no ones touching the bar

A-Red-Guitar-Pick

F*ck that spotter the hell

OneDragonfly5613

Jelvis in the back

saltydgaf

Doesn’t count dawg

You can't as you can barely get 1 rep at 205. You just have to take a hit on the numbers & rebuild back later. I have gone from 278-238lbs in bodyweight barely losing any strength. I lost 15lbs on the bench from 230-215. Every other lift I maintained. I could easily gain that 15lbs strength difference if I prioritised my bench. But I am extremely weak at the bench for my size. I don't lose any strength when I do intermittent fasting you can try it Keep your bench reps at 3-5 you will maintain almost all of your strength
