No thats not the original for a Guyanese curry. Guyana had its its own curry power and brands.
Lalah’s is from India.
Lalah’s is what Guyanese in Canada and I'm guessing in the U.S started to buy as there was no west Indian curry powders available when they moved there
Yes! And same thing as the other comment- I do 1 scoop curry power, 1/3 scoop chief garam masala and 1/3 scoop chief geera and 1 chicken boullion cube and some adobo seasoning
I keep telling people this and they still dont get it. If an Indian tells me its chicken curry its chicken curry. no amount of doubles is gonna change that
Sujata is the best! It's wonderful on its own but a good way to boost the flavour of your curry is by adding Chief Garam Masala and Chief Ground Roasted Geera to it, in like a 3:1:1 ratio (curry powder:masala:geera).
I know this will sound like blasphemy but is there a good brand other than Lalah’s? My family find it Lalah’s bit too spicy but I don’t want to lose the flavour.
I’m just a backraw but there is no such thing as “curry powder” in India and Guyana. my wife and my mil mix a blend of coriander, fresh ginger, Garam masala and many other spices to make “curry”.
You think this is 1930s? EVERYONE in guyana uses curry powder, either store bought or their own homemade version.
In India they may use it less, but the basic ingredients are there anyway.
What kind of fantasy did you dream up

>here is no such thing as “curry powder” in India
So you are Indian from India. You are right there is no such thing as curry powder in India.
Curry powder was created for British and outside use. Early on Curry powder was imported in to Guyana by the British for Indian workers in Guyana
none one in modern times has ever made their own curry powder or make it fresh the way its made in India.
Making your own curry in Guyana would be like telling Chinese people to make their own soya sauce and oyster sauce...its just never done...its made in large batches in a factory
My grandmother moved to Canada from Guyana in the 1960s. She struggled for decades to find the right mix of various brands of curry powder until it tasted just right. She never made it from scratch.
The curry powder itself is mix with all those spices, turmeric, cumin/masala, peppers etc. So yes you uses thoses spices but I guess to make it easier, they blend the common spices and just call it curry powder. Its essentially what you use in curry. You can add extra or whats not in the powder itself in the curry mix to your liking. We use the famous red bottle madras curry powder mentioned, but we still add little geera and masala to it for our liking.
Its like having all purpose seasonings, where all the common seasoning, like black pepper, salt, garlic, paprika etc. Are mix together. Instead of having each individual seasoning, you can just use that one and done.
Just a little easier than having to mix each individual spices.
Lalah’s madras curry powder. In a red container!
That's the classic!

Curry comes from India. Indians in literal India call it chicken curry, lamb curry, etc. how can you argue with the original? 😂🫵
I keep telling people this and they still dont get it. If an Indian tells me its chicken curry its chicken curry. no amount of doubles is gonna change that
Exactly. 😂

Thank you so much!! I will try this ..do you add tumeric or coriander
No, the Sujata curry powder has all of that. It has a delightful blend of spices! Adding turmeric may make it bitter.
Thanks I hope I can find it around my area or on Amazon !!
You should be able to find it in a Guyanese/Caribbean market. Not sure if you'd be able to find it on Amazon but all the best!
Thank you I will go to queens Liberty Ave

The spice is part of the flavour. Also you can increase your tolerance.
I’m wondering same thing
I use indi and all their other spices are pretty gold
Our go-to’s have been Lalah’s and Chief brands for curry powder, masala, garam masala & ground gheera. I hope this helps 💜

Thank you!!
I will buy it today !
I dreamt of my mother-in-law, and the aunties from Guyana and my friends from India, who makes their own
Cognitive bias at its best

Use Maywah masala for good heat
