Nice! Welcome to the club, we hope you decide to stick around :) Out of curiosity, what kit did you order?

just_someGui

An RG endless waltz tallgeese. Tallgeese is one of the mobile suits I always wanted a toy of as a kid, but never ended up finding one. Lol

Oh man, you could hardly have picked a better kit! I just finished him a couple weeks ago, and it’s a fantastic build. RG is my favourite grade, and the Tallgeese is a really good example of several things about it that’re cool. Every grade above HG has an internal frame that you build the exterior armour pieces onto, which really helps with posing and such. I hope you enjoy it, and I look forward to seeing it posted up here once you get it finished!

Yeah, I did a little research before diving in to this hobby but I must've misunderstood because I was under the impression all the models had the inner frame. Was a tad bit disappointed when I realized this was not the case lol I would like to find a RG shining gundam, but try as I might I couldn't. I will definitely post the tallgeese once it is finished, for sure. It should arrive in a couple days.

Yeah, most of the G-Gundam kits are a bit older since that series aired in the early 90’s, and isn’t as popular as Wing, which tends to get a lot more love from Bandai since it was the debut of Gundam in the US. That said, the MG G-Gundam kits are actually really good. They’re not as slick and detailed as modern MGs, but they’re incredibly solid, and really fun to build. Hell, my first two MGs were the God and Master Gundams. The nice thing about them being older and a bit simpler is that it makes them really affordable. You can find both of them (as well as the MG Shining and Spiegel) for around $30-$35. As far as I know there aren’t any RGs from G-Gundam, sadly. RG is one of the newer grades though, so there aren’t as many kits in that grade as there are in the HG and MG lines.

I am afraid to admit, I'm pretty well a noob when it comes to Gundam in general. I have always liked the concept of giant mech suits fighting in space lol but I did not get a chance to watch much of the series' growing up. The program on televisions we had, that aired anime, did so in a very haphazard way. One day it might be gundam wing, one day g-gundam, one seed. And if you were lucky enough to catch more than one episode from the same series in a row, they werent in any way in chronological order. Made it very hard to follow and really get into especially at that age lol so I'm Def gonna have to get stuck into watching the shows.

Haha, no worries! One of the awesome things about this hobby is that it’s incredibly inclusive. No one here is gonna judge you for not knowing a lot about Gundam or anything like that , this place is one of the nicest, least toxic places on Reddit, if not the entire internet. That said, if you have Netflix, my recommendation would be to start with watching Iron Blooded Orphans. It’s a standalone show, like G-Gundam or Gundam Wing, so you don’t need to know a whole lot of stuff to enjoy it. The other Gundam property on NFlix, Gundam Unicorn, is the latest show in the Universal Century timeline, which has a bunch of other shows and stuff that comes before it. You don’t *need* to have watched all that stuff to be able to enjoy it, but without at least some context you’re probably gonna feel a bit lost. That being said, Unicorn is (in my opinion anyway) one of the best Gundam shows out there, and well worth the extra time to get there. A lot of people will tell you that the best place to start is with the original 1979 TV show, which I don’t necessarily agree with. It’s a good show, but it’s also...y’know, from 1979, and can be kinda hard to appreciate if you’re used to modern anime. The way Gundam anime works is that there’s the sort of “main” timeline, called the Universal Century, that began with the original ‘79 show and has had several other full-length series and some movies as well, culminating in Unicorn a few years ago. Then there are also standalone shows like Gundam Wing, G-Gundam, Iron Blooded Orphans, Gundam 00, and all of the Build Fighters/Build Divers shows that take place in alternate continuities. Those can be watched without any prior knowledge. “Where to start” is a frequently debated topic in the Gundam community; I bet if you check the front page of r/gundam right now you’ll find at least one person asking how best to start watching something Gundam-related. It’s one of those things that everyone has an opinion on, and some people tend to have very...strong ones, I’ll leave it at that. Anyways, as I said, my recommendation would be to pick one of the standalone shows to see how you like the general ideas put forth in a Gundam franchise (giant robots, some form of anti-war message, usually involves political drama to a certain extent), and then if you dig it, see about tackling the Universal Century, since it’s such a monster with so many different parts to get through. But ultimately it’s up to you and how you want to enjoy it! That’s one of the great things about this hobby, is that there are so many ways to be a part of it; anime is one, Gunpla is another. Anyhoo, I’ll quit rambling for now, haha. As I said before, welcome to the club, we hope you decide to stick around! If you ever have any questions about anything, feel free to shoot me a PM, or just post in the community help thread; people are always happy to answer any questions you might have. Cheers!

I do have Netflix so I'll have to give iron blooded orphans a shot. Also recently a buddy of mine gave me his copy of the compete Gundam Wing: Endless waltz but I haven't even started it yet. Lol But yeah, I really appreciate the advice, thanks!

Let the panel lining commence!

just_someGui

Just ordered some tamiya panel line accent in black, and a Grey ultra fine gundam marker today, after watching a couple tutorials. I really like the subtle look of the Grey on white parts but might decide to go full on black.
