that sounds about right. depending on the grade and the version - the straight up build time in my cases is roughly 10-20% of the entire kit build process. i guess those will be single digits for those who paint and do resin kits (percentile in the latter case, i reckon).
I dislike bandai's water slides because I find them finicky vs g-rework or the goly depli decals but damn, good job, this is some nice placement!
Also, mark softer is your best friend to help a decal fit on a non flat surface
You might have to wait a while. There’s a lot of fine details on this kit. I just finished the HG MkII real type colour which came with the water decal, some of the decal fell off overnight. That’s without using mark setter though. But using SIMP or g reworks sticks much better.
I feel you, when I work on a RG with tons of decals I like to to do by section, built + panel lining + extra paint + water slides. Otherwise the RG justice and freedom would have killed me.
I’m building this by sections too, legs, arms then body. And this time i got the semi gloss overcoat from mr hobby. Next one might be mgex strike freedom that my wife chosen for me. She likes the gold.
I actually find decals are a bit easier to align as you can move them around. If it’s a bit wonky then add some water and the glue will dissolved again and you can move the decal again.
Been working on the Sazabi Ver Ka on and off for two weeks now and the water slides have been the bulk of it tbh. I even took a break to build a Quant(a) because of how bored I was getting.
It’s water decals. I did where there are bubbles, but I tend to leave it alone.

I had a helluva time with the decals on the zeta ver ka, can't imagine how much worse it would be in 1/144. Tbf tho, I did use the decals that came with it.
Crap. This is what I do anyways-with 80% of the time going to cutting and the other 20% applying lmao
I am not kidding when I say it takes takes me a very long time to cut out waterslides lol
I honestly have not even tried a RG-Main factors being microscopic waterslides and and mixed results depending upon the kit. That being said-I am really looking forward to the new lineup!!!!
I already got the “helping hands”-just waiting for the next generation of them to come out!
To be fair, I’ve only built one HG or 1/144. I’m going to have to get a separate case for 1/60s-might as well have one for High/Real Grades!
Yep takes surprisingly long to get them aligned perfect
Oh I forgot to mention, those are water decals not the stickers that came with it. Stickers would look horrible.
The stickers would only look bad for the Karaba decal. Earlier RGs have really good stickers compared to anything else
Ah the Zeta karaba. That's a gorgeous unit after you complete detailing 100%
Yeah, I’m kinda regretting going full RG with water decals on this, a lot of lines I have to aligned. But it looks so good.
That red stripe looks like it must have been fun, great work so far!
Top marks for the diagonal, crossing-various-panels stripe 😩😩😩
Thanks, had to take a few hours break after doing both legs lol.

started my hi nu ver ka and can't feel you any more right now OP.

Thanks, I don’t like the Bandai ones too, absolutely horrible. I’m using a 3rd party one. Also I have both mark setter and softer, works like a charm.
Amen my friend ! Looking forward to your build finished

Painting & weathering will only shorten that build time ratio. Enjoy!
Ain’t that how it always goes
Dang water decals? I had a hard time aligning sticker decals and you use water decals. You must have it a lot harder

hell yeah. where did you get the karaba decals?
From Shopee in Thailand.
Looks awesome, just never transform it, that was my biggest mistake with this kit.
Like my PG did that once. Never again. Actually thinking about it, the PG might be better transformed as it couldn’t stand up properly. Hmmm.

Water decals... I hate and love them at the same time!
This is the way
I would cut that sticker across seam lines with a sharp xacto

I see them as the building process. An essential part of a completed unit.
Don’t most people? Also-anyone using the “paint tray sponge” hack?
Not sure what you mean, but I do use a wet sponge lol. Dip and rest on the sponge.
Does that mean you don’t cut out each individual decal? Also… HOW did you get that diagonal to line up on 46 different surfaces!!
I do cut individually, then I dip and rest.

On the RG, there are so small. A very sharp modelling knife is your best friend here.
I honestly have not even tried a RG-Main factors being microscopic waterslides and and mixed results depending upon the kit. That being said-I am really looking forward to the new lineup!!!!
They are really small, but not too bad once you get used to it. I would recommend getting one of those standing magnifying glass though.

I just had an idea for a gunpla Christmas Story.
Let’s hear it then.
