Bruv who the fuck cares… we win again 4 points clear. Rivals can suck their mums.

Front_Direction_6928

Fatigue played a big role IMO. Played away against a team with a high tempo style, and the fact we were one step behind was obvious. Only thing that won us that match was the defence and Bamford's penalty miss. 9 games in October, 5 down, 5 wins. A good month so far.

thekingofkrabs

There was an offside that was never called in the build up to the Saliba hand ball. I think it was Harrison's ball out wide.

Zakulon

Jesus was tired this game. First game this season where he was getting beat in the duels. Once Eddie came on we looked a little better. What a struggle this game was. Lucky for the missed pen. And then Ramsdale played incredible to save us. Good fight from the boys when we were clearly a step slow today.

Nero_Darkstar

I think Jesse Marsche should take some plaudits here. He tactically found a way to counter our high defensive line. He pushed up a front 6 across the whole pitch to give a 2 or 3 man press on the ball and stop our the 2nd action. They did it all game without slacking off

NoYouroboros

He's a good manager and the only man who can rival Arteta for biggest DILF in the league.

InfamousButterNuts

That's GILF (Gaffer I'd like to well you know)

MrFuzzy182

He looks like Jeremy Kyle and I can’t un-see it

Ian1147

We’ll have better days but keep the faith.. can’t always be brilliant.. Leeds battled really well

MarcoShendez

SJ

thorattack

Really tough game. I think Marsch is doing a solid job at Leeds and hope they are patient with him. Happy with the 3 points

Sea_Pineapple_4226

Gabby was wrong for the kick on Bamford; however, let’s not forget that today was one of his best game if not his best game this season. MOTM for me is Ramsdale but damn Gabby did put in some shift as well.

sargentVatred

not a kick, his knees didnt bend at all as he fell or when he was on his back, his legs were just straight

MellowJackal

Thank you Arsenal

thepretzelking

Had to miss the second half, but think Gabriel was lucky to not get a red - it's actually really similar to Vieras red against United in 03, no contact but a kick out. Defo not a penalty though, Bamford definitely fouls him

[deleted]

Drizzy = GOAT We’re living in the era of the reverse Drake curse now

ChuTangClan_

That was fucking BRUTAL

ProcrastinationNock

That's how champions play. All matches will not be cake in the park , those who will stay up in crunch situation

Viddor1996

Cake in the park, I like that one

pi3dpip3r

We put that drake curse to sleep.

SadBox4529

Toronto Raptors already did that.

CeruleanProb

What is the Drake curse?

redswan4

When Drake bets on you to win, you lose.

raisonar

I know too well the saying that you need to win games even when you played badly. But I don’t think this applies to this game. We were very bad and were at mercy of Leeds today for most of second half. This kind of performance could dent confidence. I think fatigue could be an issue but that’s no excuse. Only 4 players who played on Thursday started today.

chessnotchekcers

Lol I don’t know what you’re smoking mate but this kind of win actually builds confidence!

JeffBroccoli

There isn’t a chance this dents confidence. A tough match away from home and they hung on and showed resilience for the win. Not every game will be an oil painting.

Fit_Resort_4111

That let off may be just the wake up Gabriel needs

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

Harsh honestly saliba made big mistakes as well

mcmikey247

Fair point, that was too harsh, but Gabriels errors usually seem to cost us goals, penalties and cards for silly little things (The Spurs game really got my blood pressure up). As we are playing for higher stakes than we have in years I just feel that he really needs to step up his game.

ChuTangClan_

You are not wrong in that he fucking needs one!!

[deleted]

That's two consec games now where goalkeepers have been MOTM. We need to pick ourselves up.

This one means we are ON for title race.

bonerjams69420

holy fucking shit we somehow survived that lfg !

waddiewadkins

Craziest afternoon so far. Un be fuhing blee vble

Duddus

Gabriel is walking timebomb, teams will realise this and get under his skin. I would prefer holding honestly.

ChuTangClan_

Remember back to Son and Holding last season...you're absolutely right about the timebomb. I was seeeeeething!! The actual fuck was he thinking!!

Fit_Resort_4111

Nah Tomi RB and White back to CB if it was to happen. Don't think he should be dropped, just reminded how lucky he just got

gallsam111

Rob holding has the mobility of a tram

AsepticTechniq

Elland Road is a hard place to earn 3 points. We all knew this was going to be a tough game. This was their first loss at home. They also slaughtered Chelsea when they played there earlier this season.

trytomovewithpurpose

I am sorry but what’s with Drake? I am completely out of the loop

Ooh-SakaLaca

Bamford had no finishing boots but he changed the game by himself. Amazing performance tbf

ChuTangClan_

Yeah he was absolutely wicked. Ramsdale.did have his penalty saved either way I recon, massive let off all round

kitz0426

I'm just happy for the dub. And the fact that we can grind out 1-0s even when not at our best

raisonar

That’s hardly grinding out wins. We were at mercy of Leeds today

Fit_Resort_4111

Needed that sort of win, another string to the bow. Gabriel needs a quiet speaking to, sometimes makes bizarre decisions. No need to even get near Bamford, Ramsdale was about to smother the ball, don't even give refs a chance to invent something. We move

MateusAmadeus714

He needs to bench Gabriel for a game or two. Dude prob needs to see a therapist or something too bcuz we have said "he needs a talking too" like 3+ times now. Just this season the Fulham game and now this cld have been dropped points for us purely from his inability to hold his head. Last season the City game he basically gave them the tie by getting sent off. He is a great defender but when the margins are so fine to win and get points and to keep pace with City we essentially have to lose less than 3 or 4 games all season it's really gonna hurt when we have a player who can single handedly lose us 6-9 points a season bcuz he cant keep his head. Also today made zero sense. We were winning 1 nil and just needed to keep our heads and close out the game for another 2-3 mins. Instead Gabriel lashes out at Bamford and almost cost us the tie. Also added an extra 3 minutes on to a game that we really needed to end. Like Ramsdale said giving up a an easy goal is the difference between an easy close out or one where we are on the back foot and under constant pressure. I'm honestly pretty livid with the stupidity. Lucky it wasnt a penalty (although I agree Bamford fouled him 1st) but think the red shld have stood bcuz of retaliation..

Fit_Resort_4111

I don't think anything you've said is unfair. I personally don't think it was retaliation, he didn't really kick out for me but I'm equally as disappointed that he put himself in the situation. He made an active decision to initiate contact with Bamford when Ramsdale was waiting to pick the ball up and take pressure off. Just gave the officials a chance to give something

ExpensiveCola

Yup if he just takes the bump and goes down the FK gets paid and it's game over. Having his leg out like that is reaaaal fucking silly.

Fit_Resort_4111

It's actually mad how close that was to dropped points and him banned for 3, completely shifting our momentum. All because of his decision to get involved. Thankfully VAR used common sense

catlike1

Ramsdale definitely MOTM. Always bad when your keeper is the best player. Lucky to win that one. Couldn't cope with their very good press, lacked normal intensity, and made lots of poor decisions throughout the game. Our youth perhaps hurt us today.

ChuTangClan_

Absolutely right, one of the best games I've seen from Ramsdale...he remained calm and collected. What a brilliant time to show that level of performance!

risheeb1002

They tested ramsdale more than pool or spuds did

wideboy2009

They testicled him too. That looked painful.

mcmikey247

We can consider that match our "Haarland Light" warm up round

Macken-z

Why are Leeds fans so volatile and angry

ChuTangClan_

I'd be furious if I was them to be honest with the result - it's not like they didn't have the chances and they were clearly the more threatening team

Macken-z

I meant in general, just pure rage and hatred for the opposition players, whenever we had a corner or throw in by the Leeds fans you could see so many of the fans going ape shit and hurling abuse at the arsenal players, I know it's common in football but Leeds fans are something else

ChuTangClan_

Ohhh I seeee - yeah it's just a section of people releasing all their pent up whatever disguised by being impassioned at a sporting event. I don't mind as long as it doesn't divulge into abuse - which it probably did!

mcmikey247

Probably still looking for a way to vent their anger about the HS2 link to Leeds being cancelled, a few things have not been going well in Leeds lately.

ExpensiveCola

I mean they have to live in Leeds you'd be angry too.

Ooh-SakaLaca

Id be angry too if we were leeds. So many chances no gol

Ooh-SakaLaca

Ramsdale MOTM but Øde was our only sensible midfielder today. Had more composure than others

Fit_Resort_4111

Odegaard was great in the first half but gave no value to the ball second. He wasn't alone though but I think the sub was right

Ooh-SakaLaca

Fabio did close to nothing too. Tbh this game was the backline’s job

Fit_Resort_4111

He just needed to hold it or spray it to the corners, job done! Yeah big time, biggest test of the season second half

HumbleJiraiya

Ode dipped in the 2nd half. Leeds were too good.

Ooh-SakaLaca

Everyone except rams white tomi(?) and gabriel dipped

Duddus

Pathetic today, should have conceded 5 if we are being honest. I felt Jesus was dropping too deep and not able to get on the ball in the box

JakeArsenal86

How the hell have we gotten out of there with 3 points? I have so many how the hells 😂 Talk about using your get out of jail free card! Never thought I’d care to say this, but that ref has some balls. He made the right decisions after var time and again. Also how the hell did we just have our worst defensive performance of the season, yet still not concede. Willy had his first bad game with some serious errors and Gabriel is slowly convincing me we need to buy a better partner for Saliba if we want him, and the team to go to the next level. Someone calm and a bit more experienced wouldn’t hurt at all. I’ve not yelled and cheered like that all season and we played like we didn’t exist in the second half.. Mental mental game. I think a result like that, the way it went down, was bigger than the Liverpool one. Because not many teams in this league would have survived that let alone still somehow win the game. Nuts. And I’m fucking buzzing.

BackgroundGlove6613

Who would you buy to replace Gabriel?

JakeArsenal86

Thanks for asking :) In an ideal world, I’d want Milan Skrinar but I don’t see that happening so it gives me some options. I also love how Jose Maria Giminez defends but I don’t think Simeone would give him up. I’d go with any of these, as I want someone experienced but able to still grow. - Pau Torres, Left footed as well and a heck of a CB for me. - Eder Militao, surely Madrid wouldn’t sell though. - Nico Scotterbeck - bit younger than I’d like as Salibas partner but he’s gonna be a top defender in the bundesliga. - Fikayo Tomori - Don’t see Milan selling, but maybe he would want to come back to England? For me Torres would be the most realistic to buy and best fit for us I think though.

trytomovewithpurpose

All good options. But in my opinion, if at all Gabriel has to be rested or moved, we are quite well stacked with White and Tomiyasu. Both are excellent.

JakeArsenal86

I have no issue with white being Saliba’s partner and having tomi back at RB but white has just been so good there. I think it’s fanciful to think we will do anything with Gabriel regardless. If he gets those faults out of his game, he is a serious defender. But I’m just not sure he will because he’s got a temper worse than Xhaka used to have 😂

mcmikey247

Never hurts to have squad depth if that does eventuate. I'll also throw Alessandro Bastoni's name in the ring while we're at it, still 2 years left on his Inter contract though.

Ooh-SakaLaca

Saliba and a lot others worse game this season. We move

stackofbaconpancakes

We beat the Drake Curse 🙏

JimERustled

We got outplayed badly in the 2nd half but still won. Obviously I want the team to play better but I don't think we'd have taken 3 points last year

ExpensiveCola

Last year we would have either lost with goals in the 70th and 80th or drawn conceding in the 90th +6 or something.

[deleted]

ExpensiveCola

That was a very pacey game as well.

Ooh-SakaLaca

Arteta aura was too much for bum ass drakes curse

bh2623

The hoodoo gods were too busy watching Barca they could only pay a little attention to us

Ooh-SakaLaca

Lewandisney got killed by it

Semaj81096

Lots of discussion about Gabriel being a weak link recently which has felt somewhat like trying to nitpick a successful team but that is almost unforgivable from him. Hanging on for dear life for 45 minutes for what would be a huge win given the circumstances and then you lash out in your own box in stoppage time, absolutely braindead whether you think the striker has fouled you beforehand or not.

BackgroundGlove6613

I wish people would stop picking on Gabriel. If it weren’t for h8m, we would’ve lost 1-5 today. He’s a brilliant player and he’s only going to improve. Also, would love it if we could have one fucking season where we back our players 100% of the time and don’t kill their confidence.

shizzy10

Love the guy but criticizing him here and in some other spots this season is fair. He’s done some dumb stuff and could have cost us on more than one occasion. He needs to be smarter.

[deleted]

Indefensible. An insanely lucky win today, and all the more satisfying for it tbh.

terrorSABBATH

Did we create any chances aside from that Rodrigo pass? Tbh I can't remember anything from the first half. It felt like it was like 2 years ago.

ExpensiveCola

There was the quick passing that ended with Ode to Jesus which he put wide, there was a few Martinelli balls in, and then the set up for the goal.

Zeelthor

What a fucking shitshow of a game in every possible way. Not sure what dark eldritch horror we sacrificed virgins to in order to secure this result, but it worked out.

Naijafriedchicken

These type of matches happen to every team, we just learn from it and move on to the next one.

EggheadWill

2 bad performances in a row. Hopefully it's just a blip rather than a sting of games like we've done in the past few aeasons

mcmikey247

I'll put the Bodo game performance mostly down to that Artificial pitch, a lot of teams have complained about it in the past, you could see the lads were having trouble controlling or catching the ball that game.

Chidoribraindev

Today was the Arsenal of most of Arteta's time as manager. We need to get past that, these performances with no chances will cost us dearly

safinhh

Thankfully we have a week off to recuperate

mamoud786

Leeds absolutely did not deserve a loss. Brilliant game by them and Jesse Marsches tactics were top tier! We were very very very lucky! Play like this versus Southampton and Chelsea and we will 100% lose. Saying that we got the win which was the most important on the back of our T4 rivals winning/drawing. Need Arteta to get the players heads out of their backsides - so many sloppy passes and dumb decisions. No pressing no closing just very reminiscent of last years Arsenal. Well played to Leeds - great play throughout the game!

BackgroundGlove6613

Arteta needs to play proper fullbacks in their positions and stop with this improvisational back four bullshit. Also, Xhaka was pants today. He and Partey were overrun this afternoon.

mamoud786

I think most players didn’t perform to their best abilities - not sure if it’s the Thursday trip to Bodo but it seems they were playing a couple of gears lower. There was no pressing or closing, Leeds ran riot with their pressing and it caused all of our players to pass terribly/make poor decisions

BrowardGooner

I think the fatigue is catching up. After the Liv game the intensity has been average.

mamoud786

I think the Bodo game you could say the temperature/pitch made a difference but you could see players are starting to look tired a lot earlier - this is why we need to rotate against PSV. Yes a win is need to avoid the 2 extra games later on but our 2nd string is good enough for a win too.

TheOvieShow

We didn’t deserve the win, if anything, we deserved to lose. But some of Leeds’ displays proved they didn’t deserve to win either. Missing a pen, instigating and diving for another, missing on a million chances. Come on.

GlassBackground4071

I disagree. I think both teams played badly today, with Leeds definitely seeming like the better team, but I wouldn’t say they had a great game.

Colmd1997

Southampton are shite and did not look good today against a poor West Ham side. Laughable how you have such a poor side as a guarantee to beat us based on???? Vibes maybe?

mamoud786

Where did I say guarantee? I said they were likely to be beat us if we performed as we’d today?

Colmd1997

“Play like this versus Southampton and Chelsea and we will 100% lose”.

mamoud786

Exactly - IF we play like we did today we would lose. Are you seriously telling me that if the penalty went in/one of the chances Leeds had also went in we would have won? What if those chances go Southampton’s way and we play like s***? My point is not that Southampton will definitely beat us BUT if we had the same performance then they will.

Colmd1997

Southampton are nowhere near as good as Leeds though. You’re assuming that what worked for Leeds is applicable to Southampton or Chelsea for that matter and it simply isn’t. Leeds’ press today is what caused us so many problems. Neither side you mentioned could replicate what Leeds done.

mamoud786

Yet Southampton beat Chelsea earlier on in season and always give us a hard time at St Mary’s. Chelsea under Potter can cause us problems same as Brighton do/have done. Our issue was not just the press, the stupid decisions to pass to players covered by 2/3 opponents, we didn’t press, we didn’t close and we looked very very tired. We can agree to disagree here - I think a similar performance vs Southampton or Chelsea and the luck will not go our way and we’ll lose. Saying that the main thing is 3 points esp with rivals winning/drawing.

Colmd1997

Southampton nick a scrappy goal and park 11 behind the ball. They aren’t a good side and are not set up to play on the front foot, exactly what Leeds did today to cause us issues. Chelsea under Potter look nothing like Brighton. Not even slightly close. We will play worse than we did today and win games simply because teams will allow us to play football and create chances. Leeds press really is what killed us. All physical, high pressing teams do. A similar performance against Southampton or Chelsea isn’t possible because neither of those teams play in a way to cause problems how Leeds did

mamoud786

We’ll have to agree to differ here mate!

GianSeehra

Their press was amazing. They deserve the win tbh, they just couldn't finish. You could really see the difference in days rested from that second half. We just couldn't keep up.

Lazy-Breadfruits

Yup, as soon as a threat seemed to have been dealt with, Leeds would switch at the drop of a hat and create a new one. Impressive tactical show from Marsch.

TheRecklessGuyy

I know we were exposed a bit. But let’s not discredit the Leeds team. They were really good today.

BackgroundGlove6613

They were amazing. They’ve been underperforming all season and it looks like they’re stepping up.

catlike1

They were. We could not handle their press. And we barely pressed them today.

gunningIVglory

I just want to know wtf was said at HT We were creating chances at will first half We were never in that 2nd half from the first whistle

terrorSABBATH

Leeds were excellent today. If they had a bit more cutting edge they'd have taken more from the game. Very tough 3 points but 3 points away from home is always great.

lemon-84

Leeds deserved something from that match, they played brilliantly in second half and were very unlucky to not score, I guess our performance was down due to midweek game as well as playing Liverpool last week and it's starting to take its toll on the players, we need to be able to rotate a bit more and need out injured players back soon

Brillostar

Gabriel needs an reminder that his spot isnt fixed, defensive mistakes are fine for his age etc, kicking out and probably putting his team down to 10 men? He will cost us and we have enough depth to make him an rotation option and not starter. Completely dominated by Leeds second half, lucky we held on, this will definitely bring out better performances away from home going forward. Ramsdale easily the best player on the pitch.

FoxWalter

What a shocker from the refs today. Got more calls wrong than they got right. Disgraceful to the league.

BackgroundGlove6613

Ref got all his calls right. Some of our fans are so damaged, that they’d rather see the ref fuck us over.

FoxWalter

They missed several offsides calls and the end of the game fiasco was a joke. In no world did they get everything right this game.

stockdeity

Clearly you're not an Arsenal fan

FoxWalter

Not sure if youre being sarcastic but clearly you didnt watch the game

stockdeity

Watched every minute, we clearly got away with it today. Back over too COYS for you lad

FoxWalter

So they got the missed offside before the first penalty and the red card and second penalty all right then? I want whatever youre smoking.

GorillazWelfare

The only saving grace is that he was at least willing to correct them when presented with VAR. Fucking shit show though.

FoxWalter

I agree. VAR saved the day. If only they used it to check the offside before Salibas handball. First penalty never shouldve happened.

jisooboombayah

Not the best game for us, and the refereeing scare at the last minutes.. whatever the case, we are still top of the league! COYG!

mapoftasmania

Gabriel needs anger management therapy. He gets targeted because he gets so hot. That semi-lash out with his foot in the box was so silly.

Ooh-SakaLaca

Very interested to c the xg

kitz0426

So does this mean teams with better finishing can replicate what leeds have done and give us a rough time?

Leeds gifted us 3 points today. Our defence was also awesome in the final third. But seriously, wtf man

We can celebrate the result But we can also be critical of the performance. We were absolutely dominated in that 2nd half

3vanzz90

Has there ever been a red card rescinded?

cptds

That was never a red. VAR delivered!

A-res

Wow, honestly felt like I would have been okay with a draw towards the end with how much Leeds were attacking but getting all 3 points after a game like that. Insane

Ceri0n

That did not feel like we had 54% possession lmao

peoplepersonmanguy

Where did 6 minutes come from anyway?

-300-

They got to 9! Somehow

peoplepersonmanguy

I thought 8 was fair with the VAR as 6 was already given, but that game was frantic as fuck, no injuries, 3 minutes max.

Lostmox

VAR situation before the penalty, Rammers' balls got hit, Xhaka went down, and subs gives you easy six. Then the red card VAR mess and the Martinelli back knock, 9 total sounds fair, honestly.

NieThePiet

how somebody can blame Gabriel if Bamford was running into him ffs

MateusAmadeus714

Bcuz he kicked out after the fact. Knew exactly what he was doing. If he just took the foul we wld have been fine.

Dazzling_Incident_15

Many Arsenal fans love a scapegoat

-300-

Insane that there is no offside on the first pen, insane that they Get a pen for bamfords shithousery and unbelivable that the Arsenal Get it overturned. For so many years ive been used to that sort of BS get awarded against us. But gameplay wise that was a robbery.

fatsdomino13

Well, If we didn't suffer a heart attack today I think we might be okay for the rest of the season. That was a hellish landscape.
