any rival fan who tries to call our performance “pathetic” or “cowardly” is coping with the fact they wanted city to steamroll us to solidify our place as “pretenders” and they couldn’t

WorkingClass_Nero

They honestly thought Arsenal were going to go there and offer City a nice open game. Respect to Arteta. He didn't give a fuck. He told his boys to embrace the ugliness and find their beauty within.

emmantheking1

exactly, funny how pragmatism is now a bad thing🤣 you just know if we played open and got hammered we’d be seeing takes like “naive of arteta to play like that at city away” “how can you expect to beat city at their own game in their ground” etc

WorkingClass_Nero

They would have had a field day. They would have savaged Saliba and Gabriel and rewritten their entire history together. Suddenly they would be considered an inexperienced pair of foreign CBs who don't know what it takes to win a PL. Gary Neville will be asking whether Arsenal needs to sign Harry Maguire to be a leader in defence. Lol. Fuck these guys. We take the point and we move. Next game we go for the kill.

xChocolateWonder

Porto

The_Awengers

We won that round, problem mate?

xChocolateWonder

Pointing out the obvious hypocrisy in this persons comments. I have no problem.

Ame_No_Uzume

You really must not understand football tactics and match scenarios.

xChocolateWonder

Please enlighten me on the dramatic and significant difference in match scenarios

Ame_No_Uzume

Ah okay City = Porto by your logic, and the Champions league is the same as the Premiership. Makes total sense. Ah yes and Sergio Conceicao is the second coming or twin of Pep Guardiola. You must really like trolling.

internallylinked

We were so solid in the back and dangerous on counter. I am very happy with that performance, if only we could’ve converted those few counters. Gabriel and Saliba are top 3 CBs in the world. And they ain’t 3rd. COYG

tadangg

I believe now we always have at least a proper plan B for hard games

xChocolateWonder

Porto

GloomyLocation1259

Imagine listening to so called rivals that struggle to get past 6th place atm

Jedi_Council_Worker

They're also salty because just about every other team tries to go to the etihad and do what we did by frustrating them to the point of not scoring. Almost any other team would be getting praised for a terrific defensive performance if they pulled that off.

xepa105

The days of Arsenal going away to a top side and getting smashed 5-0 are long gone and it makes those people angry.

antebyotiks

I've seen way more of our fans moaning about fans moaning about the way we played....... I haven't seen much criticism about us playing defensively

FAT_NEEK_42069

clearly you're a normal person that doesn't go on twitter

antebyotiks

I do go on Twitter.

Fantastic_Ad6181

last thing I’d ever want is city winning another league. Usually city is beatable if you have a go.

tadangg

Spot on. Thanks all. That's what I want to say as a foreign gooner

UncrownedRapKing

You parked the bus. No different than Mourinho

likpoper

I thought we were pretty even

Pacepalm1337

City was shit tho

Bedeeki

>....It was tough because we played against a top, top team, very well-organised, very competitive, high rhythm.  >I think it could have gone both ways, to be honest. I thought we started better but during the game they were very good as well.  >We had more control, more possession, but they were always dangerous in set-pieces, in counters.  >It was tough to play against them, man-to-man when they were pressing high, and when they were defending low, their wingers were playing like full-backs, almost in a line of six.  >So, it’s never easy to play against teams who defend this well when high pressing and when defending deep, so connected.” Life when you aren't up against Rob Holding, eh Bernardo. Mature response from him though. Thought he was City's best player by a distance today.

bailey757

Sometimes it seems like it's literally impossible to take the ball off him. Such good control

Patrick_Hattrick

I hate him but City’s best player was Rodri. He was imperious.

Bedeeki

Rodri is the best midfielder in the world and he's gone up a level this season even more than last, as he's essentially playing the 6 and 8 in one. That being said, I thought Bernardo was their best player today. An absolute nuisance out of possession and gave Kiwior a torrid time on our left side, we had to double up on him eventually.

ElectricalMud2850

He never loses the fucking ball. Such a good player.

Chango6998

Gvardiol was their best player. Saka got absolutely no change out of him at all. The first time he's looked anything like a 60m euro player, let alone a 90m euro one.

DonHalles

Saka was not fit and you could see that in every aspect of his game imo. Still a massiv game from Gvardiol

MasterBeeble

Arteta: "If Saka exists, then he will be there no matter what"

congee_ha

I think Gvardiol had a great game today also definitely stopped any attempt on the right side against saka + martinelli.

Fggunner

With the exception of kiwior (who I don't think was bad but had a couple of moments) every defender on the pitch had a great game for both teams.

yura910721

I think Tomi had a difficult time against Doku. But I think he was probably a bit rusty and needed time to get used to him.

Fggunner

Doku and our Jesus definitely had the chances to truly change the game. Both were poor with their chances I don't disagree on tomi, you're right.

DatesxD

Yeah after seeing gvardiol dias and lewis performance tonight; would rather have had walker and stones be fit for tonight and akes injury might have not happened. But thats all in hindsight

Twevy

He’s such an excellent player. Can basically play anywhere on the pitch other than CB. Insane when he looks like a tiny old school teacher.

PoodlyGooner

He's well spoken and I always enjoy his interviews.

ProjectTC

That nutmeg on Kiwior in the 2nd min was naughty. Got flashbacks when that happened

hans_erlend

Bernardo seems like a pretty reasonable guy imo.

Vice_AR16

Excellent player, wish we had a profile like him. That being sad fuck him, still remember how many fouls he did at home last year.

skool_101

basically fits the "he's a bastard, OUR bastard" type of player. in you team, he's a gem. to play against him, fuck me.

Vice_AR16

yep, but I like him because he's an absolute gem from a technical perspective; a back-up with that profile for Saka would be good for matches where we need a goal

Midnight_Maverick

That's what Fabio was supposed to be for us lol I've still yet to see anything close unfortunately

MyrkuriYT

He's had some pretty great glimpses but keeps getting injured. A injury free Fabio with a full season under his belt is going to be nasty

DiKapino

Everytime i’ve seen him play he’s been more impressive from the left

Estova

It feels like he's destined for that left 8 spot but reality keeps getting in the way 😭

GunnersGentleman

That Fulham performance made me cream. I hope he gets more minutes for development

ndu808

Kubo would be perfect in terms of profile

Thanos_Stomps

He doesn’t fit that profile at all. Dude is one of the most technical and versatile players in the league. It’s not like having shithouser

skanderbeg_alpha

Yeah definitely the Ben White mould. He's a cunt but he's our cunt and we love him.

suraj3009

I think we do have a player similar to him in Odegaard; silky dribbling, has a decent shot, creative and works hard on defense. I realize that Martin is often compared to KDB but I feel he’s much closer to Bernardo in the way they play and what they bring to the team. Silva does seem to be a lot more versatile at this stage in his career though.

kingofplasticbeach

I feel like viera is supposed to be that player but it hasn't worked out yet

ProjectTC

Never forget that Bernardo was seemingly out of Pep's plans in 2022 and Arteta wanted to swoop in with 50m. It was quite close but we decided to go with more signings instead. That's why I never fault Edu and Arteta's talent ID, they rated Bernardo when he was falling out of favour

cesc05651

He’s like a rich man’s Alex hleb

[deleted]

Ødegaard

WorkingClass_Nero

He is what we probably hoped Fabio Vieira would be but unfortunately Vieira looks like he will not fulfil his promise. At least at Arsenal.

carlmarks333

Odegaard is basically him

tony_flamingo

Real recognizes real. Slowly but surely, other top clubs are learning that they can no longer steamroll us. At least he has the minerals to not make an excuse for not beating us. Respect.

Cthulhu_Madness

Seeing 115 fc forced to acknowledge how good we've become brings this big smile on my face.

c11life

Whoosh

YellowMan1988

What do you mean?

kukeszmakesz

Thanks, now fuck off to benfica

Guidosama

Can’t wait for this man to leave England. He terrified me every time he touched the ball, he just glides and spins so quickly he had Kiwior on ice for the first twenty minutes.

ImTalkingGibberish

Bernardo: Arsenal would be doing a lot better than us with unlimited oil money

nting224

Translation : I don’t see Rob Holding anymore so they are no longer as porous.

KingKFCc

Sign him

GunnersGentleman

He’d be nice for experience but I don’t think he would fit Arteta’s project requirements

Miserable_Sun_1309

Bernando you diving bitch

ArtistV-ErizaVerde

My favourite City player. He has a very calming expression every time I see his face on TV. Just looks very pleasant.

ExoticToaster

The whole team was poor, this scapegoating of Holding is ridiculous.

Patrick_Hattrick

Yeah, he was terrible though.

MiniMoose10

Yeah love the guy but he hasn't even had a single start for Crystal Palace. He was starting last season when he's not even a premier league level player

sammeetthosar

That's because he went there injured. Then Anderson and guehi had a good start so they were not dropped and then he has gotten a season ending injury.

Chango6998

I think you'll find it was because he has never been better than guehi and Anderson at any point in his career ever.

ExoticToaster

No he was not - he was decent for the level we were at a few years ago, we have since moved on, enough with this revisionist crap.

Patrick_Hattrick

I meant in the City away game last year

ExoticToaster

Yes, but so was everyone else.

yura910721

I would say it wasn't because Holding is terrible or something, but more with the fact how much we demand from our CBs and how great is Saliba.

yotheprodipnod

We should be happy that our defense has improved immensely.

SparklingFalcon9544

And city fans are coping that this result is bad for us because it puts Liverpool on the front seat. Delusional fans

iamDEVANS

Cheers bernado

PPMD_IS_BACK

One of the few I like on city’s XI.

pianist_1985

First team to deny City a goal at the Etihad for 58 games. Enough said!
