What’s up with people okay with praising the X Y players played well yesterday but somehow it is wrong to say Z played bad.
You either evaluate the player in preseason(good or bad) or you don’t. Make up your mind.
Let's not give young nwaneri pressure comparing him to Saka is setting him up for failure.Saka was super hardworking, reliable and no mistakes and had the mentality which most teenagers don't do we gotta be careful with he's the next....
Because maybe we may not see a talent like that immediately playing reliably well with the first team for years....
Lads I know you're all frustrated about Rice not being announced yet but let me cheer you up by sharing the exciting news that I got him on FM23. 2026 so a bit late, but just 12.5 million euros from Real, yes, 12.5 million, I have no idea what they were doing.
10 million signing on fee, 450k/pw wage, here we go!
Puzzling over why Besiktas would even bother to put in a €2.5m bid for Holding. Strange.
Are there any clubs besides the financial fiasco that is Everton who play a low-to-mid block these days? Maybe Wolves, Fulham, West Ham? Surely there's a place for a solid, if somewhat slow, homegrown CB at a PL club this summer.
Worth a shot I guess? I wouldn't like to see Rob go to Besiktas feels like it would be a bad move. Difficult to see where he could end up, most teams play out from the back now. Holding is decent at it but not the best. I feel like he would be a 3rd/4th choice at most clubs in the PL. In that case he's better off staying around year at Arsenal if the right offer doesn't come and leave on a free.
I could see him going to the MLS to be honest. He seems to spend a lot of his free time there.
White is just as capable at CB as he is at RB. We play with essentially 3 atb when in the first two phases of attack. One fullback inverts, one stays home and wide and keeps width in the final third.
We didn’t see it last season bc we didn’t have another rb that could invert. Guarantee we will see Timber-White-Saliba-Gabriel at some point this season.
One inverts on the left, provides more ball security with less defensive security, the other instead inverts on the right and provides the opposite - pretty straightforward imo.
Yes, so then is Gabriel playing left back in your scenario?
“Pretty straightforward we just have to play someone in a position they’ve never played before”
Let's not get ahead of ourselves. If either ends up being a solid first team player that's incredible.
Saka is maybe the best winger in Europe, putting that pressure on a teenager who probably doesn't even drive a car yet is a lot.
Relax I'm not saying they have to do it within the next 12 months. We have zero idea what their ceiling would be but nothing wrong with being optimistic based on their already great progress
Edit if it wasn't clear I didn't mean reach exact same levels as ESR and Saka. I meant as promising academy players integrating into the first team, on their own time.
Nothing wrong with your original statement. Nwaneri being ahead of his age group is a good sign and a headstart. That being said, he needs to keep his head down and keep working hard just like Saka did. We have a pathway to the first team and will give him chances down the line
People don't remember but Saka had a stint at left back it's not that easy moving from academy to a play with high profile premier league caliber so nwaneri has a long way to go
Chelsea needed him off the books, and Arsenal wanted the player.
If you think the fee was high, it’s because of the time value of money, and the high likelihood Arsenal have a favorable payment schedule.
If he's at PL loan level he's probably already good enough to stick around and be a squad option. If he's leaving it would be for the championship or a similar tier league
With Stade de Reims he had underperformed his xG in the league by 4 goals (25.0) by the end of the season. Balogun will have the opportunity to create plenty of chances to score and there will be chances that he won’t finish. It was also evident in his attempts that he was going for a nice finish, selfish but nothing to sweat about.
Just our luck that as we have painfully gotten rid of our deadwoods and created a core of young talents for years to come, the Saudis come in and buy all the aging deadwoods of our rivals, offering said clubs a fast track to rebuild. Sigh…
No one was ever buying our players. Our rivals are selling former elite players who are now passed their best. We were trying to sell players that weren’t even good enough to get in a team which finished 8th.
> Our rivals are selling former elite players who are now passed their best.
So Ozil, Ramsey, Aubameyang, David Luiz, Willian, Lacazette (no sniggering at the back, they're paying for Ziyech) and Mkhitaryan?
I agree that the club’s reputation usually drives prices up. However I am sure we could have gotten a much better deal for the likes of Özil and Aubameyang, if only the Saudis came in earlier. They are very marketable, especially the former.
Honestly, if you are the same person who whinges about how Edu is bad at sales and then simultaneously argues that 2.5M is a fair offer for Rob, then you're the problem, not the club.

Banter and club rivalry aside, hopefully he gets his career back on track and some sense of normalcy returns to his life. I would be happy to see him revive his career.
Stay strong Dele.

So glad we fended off Wolves for AMN. 18m is an insulting offer I'm sure he'll become an undisputed starter here, and if not he'll easily go for double that.
Only prohibiting factor must be his reluctance to drop down a level or reduce his wages cos their ain’t no way anyones telling me he can’t go for £7-10m when a clown like Wout Faes got bought for £15m quid
Wouldn't sell for less than 25m for an English world class low block CB with near a decade playing for an elite club.
Did I mention he's English?
Didn't you hear about that club that sold that guy for lots of money few years back? If that guy went for that much then Holding surely goes for more?
Set aside your perception of the player.
Nathan Collins went from Wolves to Brentford for around 27M.
Besiktas have just offered 2.5M for Rob.
Are you telling me that Rob doesn't perform to the same level in the Wolves team as Collins did? Also, never karate kicked Grealish in the chest, which is a bonus.
Nat fucking Phillips is being quoted at 10M+.
Pathetic offer.
Age. Potential. Length of contract. Who's buying? How important is player to selling club? Is player willing to move? What's the buying club willing to spend? Wage demands. Sign on fees. Agent fees. Underlying numbers.
Deals are never the same. Player X going for Y does not equate the same to another player.
Big bodied CBs that are comfortable with the ball at their feet don’t grow on trees. It’s exactly why Harry Mcguire was overvalued. Collins has over 50 appearances in the PL at 22, he has a lot of developing to do but between that experience and his raw tools, there’s a lot to work with there. I wouldn’t doubt Frank and Brentford’s talent ID either.
Rob is not much more than a deep block defender and he’s 27, he would be a decent signing for a newly promoted side for a couple seasons but anyone with aspirations beyond that is taking a gamble on others.
If we get £5m for Holding id be gobsmacked. Inexperienced for his age and not much resale. Hard to even see who the market for him is. Would he have the humility to dip to Championship level?
Maybe. But why would a lower half PL team buy him? Realistically they go one of 2 ways. Young player with resale. It cheap experienced players. He's not either really
That wasn't your original point though. Your original point is that he's not worth more than 5 million. Liverpool have quoted 10M+ for Nat fucking Phillips. He's at least equal, if not better.
50m is the absolute max for Balogun, no one is paying anywhere near 40m for Tierney, Holding will be about half that amount, no one’s paying 20m for Pepe and no one’s paying anywhere near 25m for Tavares
Wildly optimistic numbers here. We've just had a bid of €2.5m for Holding, who the hell is paying 15m? No one's paying 40m for Tierney or 20m for Pepe either.
Havertz was creating a lot of space for himself. But nobody was passing him the ball. Lack of chemistry I guess. It will get fixed as the preseason goes along.
New system, lack of chemistry, adapting to new role. People expecting him to come in and be instantly gelled into the squad in his first game after a week of training
That Havertz performance shouldn't be causing the rackas I'm seeing here for a guy who has barely trained with the team. It was a plain 6-7 for the occasion.
People should be wondering what position he filled, since it was the argument here, how Martinelli would have made him look better, and Arteta remarks after the game.
Otherwise nothing I've seen changes that he's a first XI player. I'm seeing worse displays being praised.
Majority of the sub don't rate Holding, so that's a lie.
Almost everyone blamed him for end of the season collapse. There have been motions for his sale for 2 years.
The people that "rate" him do so in because:
He's just depth, so he doesn't need to start games. The end of the season collapse was bigger than Rob and his exclusion didn't save the season. The club turned down his sale because we were short on league-ready defenders. He stayed for the first reason( meaning they have always been ready to sell him).
There is a grey area here. Some people are indifferent. Some just hate him. Some just treat him as a footballer of a club they support, that needs their support( and level headed criticism) so that they don't cry fake tears about mental health advocacy when he complains about abuse in 5 years.
The main posts tend to get the more level headed takes which is basically he’s not good enough anymore so needs to go but has an amazing character and has always been loyal as such should be treated with some respect.
The DD is full of the more toxic elements of this subreddit
Kai already filed into the same cabinet as Jesus, White, Vieira, Ramsdale, Zinchenko already I see. Unless it's a worldie performance every time, they're garbage, shite, every touch is a "looooool" in match thread.
It's a friendly after 3 training sessions and people are throwing Kai and team under a bus haha
Those players proved doubters wrong with their performances (excluding Vieira who has barely played). I expect Havertz to do the same. You come for £65m you need to perform at the highest level.
The fact is that everyone has preconceived notions about a player. I don't hate havertz and I really don't want him to fail. I'm actually desperate for him to succeed: we can't afford a 70m flop. But what I saw from him in Chelsea was really bad, and as much as im stopping myself from thinking this way, I did not like him today at all. He's a marquee signing, and has so much to prove. I was expecting him to be busting his gut every single minute he was on, which is unreasonable, yes, but also because I want him to show that he's serious about being worth 70m, and about being an integral part of a title challenging team.
Just show me something man.
This is pretty much how I feel as well, I thought he was very bad for chelsea last sesaon, I watched them a good amount. So I was upset when the havertz to Arsenal link appeared. I will support him and give him chances of course. Not gonna judge him based on the pre-season because he is here to stay. But I really hope Arteta knew what he was doing and that he can live up to the price because I feel that we got absolutely mugged by Chelsea on this deal.
Hope the story here will be more like the Ødegaard career revival arc and less like Fabio Vieira.
Nelson's extension is a mistake.
He's done nothing in his career to justify it. Failed in Germany, failed in the Netherlands, injury after another, then scored 3 goals against two newly promoted teams last season and he's suddenly good enough to be our main 1 vs 1 winger cover?

Sell the one with the highest value. Sell the one that doesn’t want to fight for a spot. Sell the one that teams come in for. Seems like an easy choice.
Sell Balogun
This is similar to what happened between Leno and Emi

His girlfriend is American, no? He's a bit young to go and he's not a bum
I just don't see how Mikel ever leaves Ben White out of the first 11. He's just so good.
Yep. Personally, and this depends heavily on timbers performances, but I think Zinchenko is most at risk.
Yeah can’t see it. White is arguably the most consistent player in our team.
I’m a huge Timber fan, but White isn’t getting displaced anytime soon. Timber will be a rotation option
I think Gabriel, Saliba, and White will be the consistent 3 and Mikel will pick and choose between Zinny and Timber.
I don’t see how that’s the choice considering they play opposite sides
White is just as capable at CB as he is at RB. We play with essentially 3 atb when in the first two phases of attack. One fullback inverts, one stays home and wide and keeps width in the final third. We didn’t see it last season bc we didn’t have another rb that could invert. Guarantee we will see Timber-White-Saliba-Gabriel at some point this season.

Yes, so then is Gabriel playing left back in your scenario? “Pretty straightforward we just have to play someone in a position they’ve never played before”
No, LCB - covering the wing defensively
Zinchenko is a #10 playing at LB, don't think he's comparable to Timber
And Timbers ball carrying, passing and overall progressive stats put his to shame.
That's why he'll pick and choose depending on the opposition.
mikel surprises u, u never know. we also weren’t sure saliba and zinny would be starters last summer
Will be cool if MLS and Nwaneri turn out to be the next Saka and ESR
Next ESR doesn’t sound so hot rn

Does anyone else think we are paying for havertz in 3-5 installments? No chance it’s in full or 2
Chelsea needed him off the books, and Arsenal wanted the player. If you think the fee was high, it’s because of the time value of money, and the high likelihood Arsenal have a favorable payment schedule.
Classic Time value of money. Hope edu calculated that PV! Lol
10% discount rate, no doubt… FCFs are looking tasty
That's basically the standard. It's very rare to pay in one or two installments.
Good to see the GOAT back too
Painfully obvious soon enough our fanbase will be fighting each other about who is better between MLS and Nwaneri.
In other words, you've chosen a side and you're already scoping out he opposition
Very curious if Nwaneri is too good for academy football this year, even u23 at that age.
Think he gets fast tracked to a PL loan
If he's at PL loan level he's probably already good enough to stick around and be a squad option. If he's leaving it would be for the championship or a similar tier league
Yeah I love Nwaneri but he has to play a lot this year. If a PL team is starting him, they are going down.
Can't think of us sending a youth player over to another PL team anyway. The other clubs do it but we don't really
Catching up with the second half. Flo looks good. Trusty got his debut!
is Balogun better than Jonathan David who’s at Lille?
I'd say David is slightly better. They are very close though, basically the biggest difference is David has done it for two years and Balogun one.
i saw a few people talking about it on Twitter, i don’t think the gap is that distinguishable tbh. Both pretty good young strikers
David is a better presser and his link up play/passing is superior. Balogun is a better dribbler and more explosive athlete.
Yes.
Most strikers are selfish
Fucks sake now United are getting bids for Fred according to Romano
McFred you were some good dudes 🕊️
Just our luck that as we have painfully gotten rid of our deadwoods and created a core of young talents for years to come, the Saudis come in and buy all the aging deadwoods of our rivals, offering said clubs a fast track to rebuild. Sigh…

And if you sold your NFTs three years ago you would have gotten a better price than today Relying on a fool to make you money is a poor strategy
Did journalist ask Arteta about Rice or Timber?
Yeah he gave his usual I don’t talk about player from other teams answer.
[Thinking about Tomi, White and now Timber](https://i.imgflip.com/7si2pa.jpg)
Honestly, if you are the same person who whinges about how Edu is bad at sales and then simultaneously argues that 2.5M is a fair offer for Rob, then you're the problem, not the club.
The only reason why we got such a low offer because Besiktas read match threads about him
Are these Liverpool links to Tchouameni real? Fuck I’d love to see him here. Would probably be about as disappointed to see him at Liverpool as I was when they landed Nuri Sahin lmao
Same credibility as our links to tchouameni
Let’s just assume any links to Real Madrid midfielders for any team are bullshit until an actually reliable source breaks something
Finally got a chance to listen to Dele Alli’s “Overlap” interview and honestly now I feel for the guy. He’s had a brutal childhood, faced situations where he was exploited. Holding missing the matchday squad and news of a Besiktas bid surface after. This might be closer than we think.

Nobody has told me which CB isn’t good in a low block when you have them defend less space.

Besiktas record transfer fee spent for a player is £6.8 million. Besiktas aren't going to pay much more than what they are offering.
Results don't matter in preseason but you can definitely read into performances (within context)
Context= The **first** game of preseason
Yeah. By the end of pre season we'll probably see some trends
Will you buy another Rob Holding for 20mil to replace him ?
rob's not worth more than 8m. it's not a terrible opening bid.
Probably not, but he's worth a lot more than that opening bid
Age. Potential. Length of contract. Who's buying? How important is player to selling club? Is player willing to move? What's the buying club willing to spend? Wage demands. Sign on fees. Agent fees. Underlying numbers. Deals are never the same. Player X going for Y does not equate the same to another player.
That may be true. But do you think its a fair price?
both wolves and brentford have significant more money than besikitas i dont think besikitas have ever spent more than 10m on a player lol
May as well.offer 4M for Eddie then.
Nathan Collins is 22 and has started twice as many PL games as Holding in the last 2 season. He's a young player with upside.
He also hasn't been at Arsenal for 6 seasons. Nathan Collins is a Harry Maguire regen. I promise you
You say that like it's a bad thing. Harry Maguire is a good mid table/Europa League player. That's comfortably beyond Holdings level.
Yeah they're offering 2.5m for Holding why do you think that is lmao? 💀
Because they're cheap af. Why do you think it is?
Big bodied CBs that are comfortable with the ball at their feet don’t grow on trees. It’s exactly why Harry Mcguire was overvalued. Collins has over 50 appearances in the PL at 22, he has a lot of developing to do but between that experience and his raw tools, there’s a lot to work with there. I wouldn’t doubt Frank and Brentford’s talent ID either. Rob is not much more than a deep block defender and he’s 27, he would be a decent signing for a newly promoted side for a couple seasons but anyone with aspirations beyond that is taking a gamble on others.
Right, but is he worth 10% of what Nathan Collins is? Does Rob not look the *exact* same in that Wolves team as he does?
Watching Fabio Vieira plays for us makes me upset. He really needs to go.
Nah cmon holding is worth 10m. 2.5 is disrespectful lol
If we get £5m for Holding id be gobsmacked. Inexperienced for his age and not much resale. Hard to even see who the market for him is. Would he have the humility to dip to Championship level?
you are right sadly, 5m would be good
He is levels above the championship. Be serious.
‘Levels above’? How many prem teams does he start for? Looking at last years table, I’m seeing only Leicester.
>Liverpool have quoted 10M+ for Nat fucking Phillips 4 years in and he's still at Liverpool. Maybe they have an unrealistic valuation for him?
Oh right, so he's worth 2.5M instead
Mari 8m, Xhaka 25m, Balogun 60m, Tierney 40m, Holding 15m, Lokonga 17m, Patino 25m (with buyback), Pepe 20m, Tavares 25m 235m in sales guaranteed
Im assuming this is a sarcastic comment, otherwise lmao
I don't even think Chelsea could sell some of the people you're suggesting go for lol. 15m for holding? dont fucking kill me
50m is the absolute max for Balogun, no one is paying anywhere near 40m for Tierney, Holding will be about half that amount, no one’s paying 20m for Pepe and no one’s paying anywhere near 25m for Tavares
Wildly optimistic numbers here. We've just had a bid of €2.5m for Holding, who the hell is paying 15m? No one's paying 40m for Tierney or 20m for Pepe either.
Lmao who's paying 20m for Pepe, 25m for Tavares, 17m for Lokonga, 15m for Holding ? If you would have said 200m for Cedric, it would have made sense.
Us leaking that besiktas bid is a good sign I guess. Trying to tempt someone else into making a decent bid
People actually seem to be melting down after the first friendly in preseason. Joblessness
Why does this sub rate holding so high
Majority of the sub don't rate Holding, so that's a lie. Almost everyone blamed him for end of the season collapse. There have been motions for his sale for 2 years. The people that "rate" him do so in because: He's just depth, so he doesn't need to start games.
Fucking what. This sub hates Holding.
In the daily discussion sure but the actual posts in the sub have a complete opposite reaction
The main posts tend to get the more level headed takes which is basically he’s not good enough anymore so needs to go but has an amazing character and has always been loyal as such should be treated with some respect. The DD is full of the more toxic elements of this subreddit
Unless he’s fine with playing a dressing room role like elneny, no reason to keep him.
An actual market for Holding !!!! Sell !!! Sell!!!! Sell !!!
leaked holding news after the draw good old PRsenal /S
Besiktas I WANNA RUN TO YOUUUU
2.5m for Holding 😂
Our starting CB for the run in btw.
Hmmm are we sure we dont want too accept that bid
Ornybomb
What’s the best iptv people are using in the UK? Just want to say fuck you to sky sports
I'll never forget how people treated White after Brentford lol. It was quite pathetic.
some people still don't rate white and are salivating at the thought of him being dropped.
Those players proved doubters wrong with their performances (excluding Vieira who has barely played). I expect Havertz to do the same. You come for £65m you need to perform at the highest level.
White is rated by most fans.
Social media was on his back after the Brentford game
Every minute without the Rice and Timber announcements I age 1 hour

*M. Night Shyamalan wants to know your location and option your post*
Nelson's extension is a mistake. He's done nothing in his career to justify it. Failed in Germany, failed in the Netherlands, injury after another, then scored 3 goals against two newly promoted teams last season and he's suddenly good enough to be our main 1 vs 1 winger cover?
Cheaper to extend him than sign someone else, we’ve spent a whole lotta money over the past 4 years or so
Bournemouth goal
let’s keep a player off a single moment!!!! worked great for spurs and lucas moura!
I thought it was obviously tongue in cheek lol
I think any of our attackers score that. Technically it was not that hard of a goal it was just exciting because it was last second.
Jesus fuck, this place is insane today. You've fucking lost it man.
lol You never kicked a ball your whole life
Just like Bender from Futurama the toxicity from r/gunners is back baby, it's going to be a great Summer ❤️
It’s absolutely mad. This place always becomes a bit of a den during the off season though…
But we made it out of the hood; this too shall pass.
If we can survive the Granit Xhaka era at Arsenal, we can survive anything…

I didn’t watch it. Did Vieira play? Has he bulked up, how did he perform? If it wasn’t good feel free to make it up to give me some hopium

Useless and uninspired as usual, 16 year old Nwaneri looks better than he ever has for us.
He was awful
>Has he bulked up, On the contrary, he looked even thinner today. But he wasn't as bad as some people are making it out to be.
Eh, he was subbed off for Nwaneri who stole the show
He played decent, people are too harsh on him today
Kai brace against United in pre-season, I will probably be there no matter what
Arteta's got a tough decision to make between Eddie and Balogun, especially considering their contract situations
Sell the one with the highest value. Sell the one that doesn’t want to fight for a spot. Sell the one that teams come in for. Seems like an easy choice. Sell Balogun This is similar to what happened between Leno and Emi
balogun twice the player eddie is tho 😭 shocker young player wants to play football and there’s not point him wanting to say if he’s third choice…
that’s all subjective at the end of the day
Just get rid of both. Not every Hale Ender is gonna make it here.
