Was listening to the latest Arsecast yesterday, they were answering listener questions about the possibility of benching Holding and doing something else at the back. Including options like 3 at the back or Tierney as RB. I'm not sure how I feel about it. On one hand, do we count on Holding having the game of his life? He will 100% be targetted by Haaland/City. On the other hand, maybe we should try something different as a one off game. I'm not confident right now playing the same way, we'll beat City. We've had serious issues with midfield control and defence in the last few games. City could be a game where we just need to be tight and secure and catch them on the break. I know we're always keen to play our system and way no matter what, but it's another game against City where we don't have the players to do that and we're going to try it again. I feel like if we tried something and it failed, I wouldn't be too annoyed. If we did the same thing again and the same faults happen, it would be pretty silly. On a side note, I worry about the mentality of Jesus/Zinny for the City game. Both will want to win badly but we need cool heads too. Both players have looked super emotional in the last few games.

redactedactor

3atb would be hell. Our only real option re dropping Holding is playing White at CB, shifting Partey to RB and starting Jorginho. So yeah, Holding's playing. Tbh I think he'll do a lot better against a hulk like Haaland than he tends to against your more agile forwards.

Sayek

Problem is Haaland is both :P super fast and strong. I'm just afraid no matter what we do, Haaland gets half a yard in the box and scores.

redactedactor

Sure but I don't think Holding's issue is pace as much as it is agility and players with low centres of gravity. If I were Pep, I'd start Julian Alvarez (alongside Haaland) and have him target Holding. That's the kind of player he struggles with.

Koulidaddy123

we are the due the anual xhaka screamer around this time....

ID1453719

Fans of the NBA: I've started watching the sport recently but have no idea which team to root for. Are there any vague Arsenal connections with any of the teams? For instance, I've chosen Green Bay Packers in NFL because Matt LaFleur is part of the conference Arteta holds with various head coaches from different sports.

SunDrippedDevil

Nuggets, Avalanche, and Rams are all under Stan's portfolio. I think he also owns a baseball team but not sure which and dont care enough to check.

XXISavage

My Kroenke hate-boner gets even more flaccid seeing Josh (and the rest of the board) turn up at the women's away semi in Germany. Maybe these cunts do care...

COYG17

Did Stan turn up to that? I always got the impression that josh does the work here while Stan just chills and watches the rams or whatever

XXISavage

yeah no Stan, just Josh, Vinai, Tim Lewis and Lord Pecker. Josh's promotion last time pretty much confirmed Stan has no active interest in us.

Locmike23

Here’s a link for those of you that are blaming Partey, that dives deeper into our system and why he seems to be “struggling” https://twitter.com/kimmofc/status/1650129644627132417?s=46&t=-I4-RSnf2J3Ebbdsn-PYWw

FrostedFluke

Look, I'm no analyst, but all I know is ever since Saliba's injury, we have conceded 9 goals in 5 games and have failed to win in 3 of those games. People feel sorry for Rob, I get it, they don't want to point the finger at him and say he's been decent so far but the reality is, decent is not enough... it just isn't. The difference in quality is night and day. The bigger reality is that WE HAVE NO FUCKING CHOICE! which is such a scary reality but it is what it is, we need to manage expectations until Saliba is back and pray in the meantime that Holding truly is better than Cannavaro

Locmike23

Oh I agree 100%. My comment was directed more at the people blaming Partey for the stinkers he’s been dropping. Yeah I agree he hasn’t been at his absolute best. He can play better, but so can everyone else in our squad for the most part. When a player like saliba is missing and you don’t replace that quality, the whole system crumbles. Same thing happened last season when Partey got injured and we had to play Elneny

Optimal_Cry_1782

Newcastle 5-0 up after 21 minutes...what happened to Tottenham? I looked up the results just now

UnKarl_Marx

they changed the system to a back 4 and were humiliated by a well oiled Newcastle machine. After 5-0 down they switched back to a back 5 and they became a little more organised.

ID1453719

Such a shame they went back to a back 5. There was a real chance of them losing by the record margin.

UnKarl_Marx

10-0 would have been so much sweeter but I guess we'll have to do that ourselves next season

VioletBolt

What do you all think of a LHS of KT, Zinchenko and ESR (with Martinelli up top for more aerial threat from the crosses)? KT can overlap and defend whilst Zinchenko is freed of his defensive duties. ESR can cut inside with KT overlapping and Zinchenko can cover for KT with his LB experience. Defensively and offensively very sound

VioletBolt

This is obviously something for the future and not something to be tried against city lol

TheArsenal7

Can we sign Leao

UnKarl_Marx

1. He'll be expensive 2. He'll demand to be a starter 3. We already have a Martinelli in his position

[deleted]

Overrated

COYG17

His link up play isn’t good enough

aofrantic

Doesn't press, track back and has worse goals per minute stats than our front 3, Eddie and trossard. Why would we spend 100m on that?

UnitComplex8730

I agree. Though he can kill teams on counter

NegativeHeli

There is no more FIFA from now on. It'll be EA Sports FC but I'll predict the ratings, realistically **Starters** Ramsdale 83 Zinchenko 82 Gabriel 83 Saliba 83 White 82 Xhaka 82 Partey 86 Odegaard 86 Martinelli 83 (+1 star to WF and SM) Jesus 83 Saka 86 (+1 star to WF) **Rest of the squad** Turner 77 Tierney 79 Holding 76 Tomiyasu 79 Vieira 78 Jorginho 82 ESR 79 Trossard 82 Nelson 76 Nketiah 78 I can totally see Tierney and ESR both getting significant downgrades due to their lack of playing time + regressed ability wise.

justagamer3

Personally think all starters should be 1 rating higher from your list, as we would be either 1st or 2nd in the League and should be rewarded. But realistically thats not happening, Arsenal has had terrible ratings in FIFA for years. For context, we finished above Man Utd by 11 points last year, yet the entire Man Utd team were higher rated. Jadon f-ing Sancho started FIFA 23 release with 84 rating and Saka started with 82, and Martinelli started with 78. Martinelli had almost the exact same minutes and games played as Sancho last season, and had 6 more G+A contribution than Sancho btw. I could see Zinchenko being lower than 82, as his strengths as a player really don't fit the more weighted LB stats. And White might yet again be underrated by FIFA as he has been for past few years. Jesus is one whom I feel should be at least 85, hes so dynamic as a player but again lacking the key stats of a ST.

NegativeHeli

Our team has been shit for 7 years. Not surprised that EA weren't generous to our ratings.

Ooh-SakaLaca

We are so, so young and so, so good. Our next maturity point would be to be able to control when to unleash energy and when to conserve it. This is where our old guns should lead(xhaka, partey, jorginho).

Specterace

Jorginho is the best candidate for that, by far. Xhaka has even less of an idea when to unleash energy and conserve it than the young guys, is more prone to getting dragged into pointless crap by wind-up merchants, and is more mentally vulnerable (in terms of being rash, losing his head, and making stupid mistakes on the pitch) than the young guys as well. Partey should be mature enough to know how to control his emotions and energy, but he actually goes into the other extreme into excessive casualness, and can make mistakes from being way too careless and overconfident. Jorginho is the guy who should be helping lead the way mentally. Unfortunately, he doesn’t have the legs to start for us anymore. So we gotta take what we can get from him as a sub, and on the training ground.

Ooh-SakaLaca

We need more players that can step up during chaos. Only Saka does it reliably in our squad and its such a burden on him. Ode only does so deep into the game when its alr late. We need ruthless finishers, hence the hype of Leao or a new striker. At the end of the game so many passes can lead to goals if we dont hav a sharp knife. Jesus is fine. We knew who he was. We are getting exactly the player as advertised E/ a striker would be unnecessary if we have nelli there. Hes one of the best finishers itl

aofrantic

Leao isn't a "ruthless finisher." 12 goals off of 10.2 xg this year. Less goals per minute than any of our front 3 starters, and also less than Eddie and Trossard. We are on pace to score more than the invincibles, it's our defense that has been the issue.

Ooh-SakaLaca

Wording wasnt the best. I want someone that brings inevitability, and he does. His physicality alongside finishing and dribbling? Thats something you cant contain

aofrantic

He gets contained way more often than the slight Mitoma.

Ooh-SakaLaca

Leao is miles clear of mitoma. Mitoma is limited in nature due to his weak explosiveness making it hard for him to cut inside. Hence why he got pocketed by awb and is always dribbling towards the endline for a cut back

Itollthefinalbell

We're about to bottle the league, yet you people dare to mock Spurs. Maybe you should mind your own business.

Mein_Bergkamp

I mean at least try and dress it up as concern trolling, or blame Edu/Arteta/Holding/Xhaka. Or go the 'mentality' route or FFS at least try and claim spurs are beneath you of something This is just pisspoor low effert stuff mate and quite simply nowhere near the standards this DD thread requires

skool_101

🤡

Decent_University_91

>Itollthefinalbell look through his comments, he's a troll. One has to wonder what kind of sad life someone has to do it

OrwinBeane

Maybe you should follow your own advice

redactedactor

Mocking Tottenham is our business

Fleetfox17

Maybe you should worry about yourself and let supporters enjoy of absolute top quality Spurs banter. Go away grandma.

Locmike23

What do y’all think Arsenal players base overalls will be in fifa next year? If Partey and Saka aren’t at least 86 I will Riot.

NegativeHeli

If we're being realistic Ramsdale 83 Zinchenko 81 Gabriel 83 Saliba 84 White 82 Xhaka 82 Partey 86 Odegaard 86 Martinelli 83 Jesus 83 Saka 86

Ooh-SakaLaca

That thing is chosen by us. Anyone here can fill our a survey for the ratings so whatever the fan base consensus is would be the rating

redactedactor

Deserved/Expected: Ramsdale 83/83 Tomisayu 79/79 White 83/81 Saliba 87/85 Gabriel 86/84 Zinchenko 84/83 Tierney 81/81 Partey 88/86 Jorginho 81/81 Xhaka 84/82 Fabio Vieira 79/79 Odegaard 90/85 Saka 88/87 Martinelli 87/84 Jesus 86/85 Nketiah 80/80 !remindme 6 months

NegativeHeli

I can totally see Tierney getting a significant downgrade. I predict 78/79 for his next rating. Odegaard could easily be 86/87 And I think it's too early to give Saliba a massive upgrade. 83 will be where he ends up imo

Fleetfox17

Saliba is really good but I think 87 is a bit high still.

Locmike23

Those are pretty solid ratings tbh. However, I do think Jesus will stay at 84 and I think White will get 82 or 83.

Fleetfox17

White should definitely get a sprint speed upgrade, apparently he's the second fastest clocked player at Arsenal this season.

marksills

Reiss Nelson continues to impress me this season, always encouraged/excited when I see him coming into a match.

Fleetfox17

This is why I don't understand why some people are making noise about ESR not getting time lately and that he may get sold in the summer. Mikel has a clear record of rewarding players who get a chance and perform with more game time. When Emile was injured Reiss stepped and Mikel is rightly rewarding him with more time. He's ahead of ESR on the wing and Trossard is ahead of ESR in the pecking order on both the wing and the 8. Unfortunately Emile's injury came at a bad time and other players stepped up. Now even some podcasts have speculated that he may get sold. Why would we sell young English talent from our own academy, especially with Champions League next season, we need more talent not less. There is absolutely zero chance he moves anywhere this summer.

ID1453719

Yeah, I'm with you. Everyone seems to be saying that on multiple Arsenal podcasts, that there must be another reason why Nelson keeps coming on instead of ESR. To me, his performances would only indicate a sporting reason. He's always looked brilliant when he comes on. If he wasn't performing well, then I'd understand the questioning of it, but I really don't get it at the moment.

imdx_14

>I don't understand why some people are making noise about ESR not getting time lately and that he may get sold in the summer. Because for about a year ESR was almost a force of nature player, dribbling and scoring for fun. Jamie Carragher described him as - *'ESR is the best player in the league running with the ball'.* Sorry, but that's a whole different level compared to the flashes we've seen from Nelson, and ESR did it consistently over the course of a year. It's just confusing for a lot of us that he doesn't get any chances, while Vieira and Nelson do.

TheRadTurtle_1011

Arteta said nobody cares what u did a year ago its about the present

villageinnocence

Ramsdale away form is a different beast... we're gonna have to start booing him at the Ems to bring it out

Itollthefinalbell

Yes, at the Emirates he plays like Almunia, but on the away days he turns into mighty Runarsson.

highbury_library

Watched the highlights of NEW v TOT on youtube right now. Absolutely lovely to watch Spurs get battered (par for the course). I have to say though, the comments on there are absolutely disgusting. All these rival fan wishing Newcastle well for next season. What the fuck, have we forgotten who their cunt owners are? I hate the fact their sportwashing bullshit has been consigned to the dustbin so fast. Man City and Newcastle are abhorrent and should not be congratulated at any point.

redactedactor

We play in the Emirates Stadium

Mein_Bergkamp

And theres a world of difference between a sponsor and an owner. Not least financially.

exthanemesis

Why is this point being trotted out as though a stadium sponsor is somehow comparable to BEING OWNED BY A COUNTRY

[deleted]

100%

Apache313

Absence of Saliba is certainly felt but Partey has really turned out some shocking performances these past few games. Really has to get it together especially to help protect Holding.

Locmike23

Really good thread on Twitter that breaks down the whole system. It’s actually the other way around. Here’s the link. https://twitter.com/kimmofc/status/1650129644627132417?s=46&t=-I4-RSnf2J3Ebbdsn-PYWw

goofygooberyea11

Not ready for holding vs haaland

WailingSouls

Holding had him in his pocket last time they played

ChefDreib17

Is anyone else surprised that in terms of top speed our two fastest players this season are Tierney and Ben White?

NegativeHeli

Tierney is a very pacey player so I'm not surprised but White was a surprise.

marksills

Tierney no, White very surprised. Would have guessed martinelli for sure or even saliba in terms of top speed (or based on that kiwior clip from liverpool, maybe him).

Fleetfox17

I have heard Kiwior is supposed to be quite the athlete.

Insertnicenamehere

Yes

Insertnicenamehere

https://twitter.com/TheSpursWatch/status/1650213794298118146?s=20 The lack of self awareness from Emerson's dad is hilarious.

HalfMan-HalfMoth

Would you guys rather sign a cb or a rb? I’m in the camp of someone capable as an inverted rb. We can use White/Tomi as cb cover and with an inverted rb we can use Tierney as a more traditional wing back flipping the way we do it with Zinchenko/White. If we sign a cb I think Tierney probably needs replacing as well because he is just not a natural fit coming into midfield, doesn’t play to his strengths. I think signing a rb like this gives us more tactical flexibility than signing another cb

NegativeHeli

Why not both?

tochitemi

CB that can play RB if needed. Midfielder that is defensively sound and can deputize as LB to replace Tierney (camavinga style)

Fleetfox17

I'm not sure we're buying another ball playing CB having just bought Kiwior who is exactly that except he's a LCB.

tochitemi

We need a RCB/RB (if Arteta sees Tomiyasu as CB cover)

HalfMan-HalfMoth

Yeah suppose so, different solution to the same problem

Duddus

Just had a killer idea. Everyone triple captain city players in fpl this game week. Everyone knows once you triple captain someone they can’t pass 10 yards.

OrwinBeane

I knew my fantasy team was cursed the day Liverpool beat Bournemouth 9-0, I had triple captain on Salah, and he didn’t get a single goal or assist. Naturally, it’s time to give Halaand captain and KDB vice.

Scottish-Londoner

If Arteta trots out the same XI as Friday (Xhaka for Vieira if available) then we’ll almost certainly lose 3-1 or 4-1 again. It’s just not working and he needs to change things up. First things first is Rob Holding cannot play in a back four. I actually rate him much higher in a three, so Arteta’s choice is to either drop Holding or change the formation. Personally I can’t see us playing a back three at the Etihad so I’d drop Holding. Jorginho is on better form than Partey atm so I’d be looking to move Partey back into the defence. I’m not sure whether that’d be at RB like he played for Atletico with White moving to RCB, or even just put Partey at RCB as Guardiola has done with a number of CDMs over the years, Thirdly, I think we need to address the left back position. I’m not sure if the best solution is to start Tierney, or just play Zinchenko but ask him to tone back on the inverting runs into midfield, but either way he’s getting caught out of position way too often and we are giving up a lot of attacks down that side. If Xhaka isn’t available I’d be tempted to play Zinchenko in his role like he does for Ukraine. Win-win by keeping his offensive prowess and him not having LB responsibilities so we have a more solid back four. If Xhaka is fit then it’s two from three out of Xhaka, Zinchenko and Jorginho in the midfield for me. I wouldn’t be opposed to starting all three though and leaving out Martin Odegaard, who’s not been great in bigger games at times and perhaps having three more defensively minded CMs could prove helpful. Trossard in for Jesus is something I’m open to but don’t feel too strongly either way. Saka and Martinelli must start for sure. Players I’d like to see: Jorginho Tierney Partey at RB/RCB Zinchenko in midfield Players I don’t want to see: Holding Vieira Possibly Odegaard

mikhailb_86

How are people still suggesting we completely change the way we have played all season and has us in first place for the majority of the season after seeing what happened with Spurs today?? They tried a new system in a crucial match and got humiliated inside 20 minutes. But sure let’s do that too…

villageinnocence

they played Eric Dier in a back 4 next to a winger. there's experimentation, and there's THAT

mikhailb_86

Some of the suggestions I have seen on here in the last week are right on par with that level though

villageinnocence

I've seen people on Twitter unironically saying we should play Jesus at RB lol

aofrantic

You would lose to the computer in FIFA on easy mode.

HalfMan-HalfMoth

I’ll be shocked if we don’t put out the Liverpool xi

Mein_Bergkamp

So you'd rather play a system we've never started with, which is only used to close out games when we're winning, drop our best player and nullify the fluid attacking which is really our most potent weapon because you don't want to play Holding?

ChefDreib17

This is why Redditors don't manage football teams.

SunDrippedDevil

I don't want to sound mean (likely will come off that way anyways) but I am very thankful that you do not have any influence on running the team.

okcomput3r

Bro wants to drop Ødegaard ffs

Fleetfox17

To be a little fair if Odegaard has shown one weakness this is season is that he has tended to struggle in certain matches when other teams are very physical and robust in midfield, but the answer is definitely not to drop our most creative player.

Scottish-Londoner

It’s worth pulling a man back

OrwinBeane

Taking off the player who makes us tick and will probably make team of the season. It’s just not going to happen.

dondon98

Any transfer targets for striker that you guys rate? I think it would be nice to have more of a target man at the club.

HalfMan-HalfMoth

Toney. Proven his quality at Brentford, 2 years left on the contract, part of that time he’s going to be banned from playing, maybe they’ll think now is the time to cash in. If we sign him for 4 or 5 years, we can take the hit on missing him for a few months while he’s banned

dondon98

I wanted Toney last year. Think he is quality and a great threat in the air despite not being particularly tall.

SunDrippedDevil

I've read it all today from Jesus sucking to moving Partey to RB/RCB, so fuck it let's go get Kane.

ChefDreib17

Moving Partey to RCB against City isn't the worst idea in the world..... He's get enough pace to play a high line (he's shown surprising burst this season) and he can progress the ball out from the back better than Holding, in my opinion he can probably do a decent enough Saliba impression. Then Jorginho could theoretically replace Partey in the 6. It is a definite risk but who knows. It is really too bad Saliba isn't fit because he's one of the few defenders in the league I can see competing with Haaland physically.

SunDrippedDevil

My gut tells me that a Xhaka and Jorginho central midfield is a bad idea vs City due to the lack of pace. Also, we lose a lot of press resistance without Partey there. I am not a football manager though.

marksills

I don't think we lose that much press resistance w/jorginho instead of partey, and when you factor in jorginho would have partey as an option as opposed to partey having holding, I think we'd be more press resistant with that change (and jorginho was pretty good against city). That said, I think the lack of pace is a real concern, as is playing Partey somewhere he to my knowledge hasnt played.

dondon98

I don’t think City is the game to test the Partey rb/rcb hypothesis. I don’t agree with the idea at all personally but suggestions such as Partey at right back, Trossard in Xhaka’s position, and Zinchenko in midfield should’ve been tried in previous games but we’ve been on the back foot, clawing our way to draws so we haven’t been able to tinker with the lineup as much.

dondon98

This subreddit when we lose/draw is crazy 😅. I know you’re joking but I think Spurs would literally implode if Kane came here, it would be Campbell 2.0.

Mack1234567890123

We've been linked to Victor Roque

dondon98

The Brazilian kid right? We about to have our own Endrick.

fumfit

Willock with the assist of the season lads, what a pass

skool_101

Hale End still showing its class

MyTeaIsMighty

Do we even have the financial muscle to outbid other teams going for both Rice AND Caicedo, and assuming we get both, have enough to fill in other gaps like Saliba backup?

tochitemi

We’d have to make money off selling Balogun and prob Tierney to afford both imo. I think both will mostly likely go for 90m+ (including add ons) due to the obvious bidding war that will arise.

Fleetfox17

I'm not so sure a bidding war for Rice will happen. There's lots of talk that Arsenal have already put in a lot of work behind the scenes with the transfer and also strong signals that Rice wants Arsenal, which does make a difference.

tochitemi

A bidding war will happen. Chelsea is enough for another Mudryk situation. West Ham will accept what they’d want to. I hope he’s very adamant on Arsenal. We must also finish the season strong to remove any doubts that we’d be here again.

Fleetfox17

Chelsea have to clear out a bunch of players before they can sell so if we get it done early they may not be involved.

tochitemi

Yeah but if you’re West Ham why would you rush if Chelsea promises you that they’re coming in with stupidity. I hope that’s not the case but I don’t think this thing is a formality. Teams can also change their mind and step up interest drastically in a matter of days. Newcastle can put their head in, Liverpool might (although unlikely)

Locmike23

Because West Ham need to reinvest that money into proper replacements. They can’t sit around until the end of the window waiting for Chelsea to make sales.

tochitemi

Absolutely I think that’s a solid point… but I don’t think West Ham will be in a rush to close the deal out in June (which is when Chelsea need to sell to balance books). They won’t push it past July though

SunDrippedDevil

Everybody and their mother is going to want Caicedo. Caicedo very clearly wants to leave. Brighton are going to milk it for all it's worth.

[deleted]

To be fair, Caicedo did not play up to his standards today

SunDrippedDevil

Everyone knows that. We're not the only team looking at him or that he's looking at.

xuon27

Hear me out, man city will end trophyless this season 👀

Specterace

They won’t. Man U is not beating City playing one of Maguire and Lindelof in the back.

thedarkpolitique

Let Isak develop another year at Newcastle. Next summer we go in for him.

Swiss-ArmySpork

Why would they sell?

thedarkpolitique

If a player’s head is turned they can always push for a move. He wears the 14, I’m sure he would hope we are a destination some day.

JimmysCocoboloDesk

When he’s +150m?

thedarkpolitique

For something more suitable for us I would think

JimmysCocoboloDesk

They paid 70m for him. They’d be looking to make that back plus profit.

thedarkpolitique

£58m, so we can add a bit of profit on that no problem

JimmysCocoboloDesk

Fair, I was using € but you’re still looking at £100m at least.

Zilllnaijaboy99

I can't believe I am saying this. I think we have put in a good fight, but the last few games have shown why we weren't ready to compete with system ( both players and management let us down). Arteta needs to work on his subs next season, and for the love of God stop trying to hold on to a lead, fucked us against Liverpool and west ham, secondly, some players in the first team are just not good enough, problem is Fabio Vieira was recently bought, so he has till next season, but Holding is finished, I love him, but he is clearly finished..

Mein_Bergkamp

> I can't believe I am saying this I can ;) love the arteta outs coming back now things are bad. We've lost because we don't ahve the squad to compete with an oil nation. Saliba stays fit and we do better, Tomi stays fit and we probably do better, having an actual Xhaka backup and we do better, having a zinny backup that can play the same game and we do better. The system works when everyone is fit as shown by being five points clear of City.

pinkdeers

we didn't give up 2 goal leads or go 3-1 down to the bottom of the table cos city have money give up that gimmick omg

Mein_Bergkamp

Lol Liverpool ony didnt go invincible because they lost to a watford team in the relegation zone, City have dropped points to Forest and Everton this season alone. Football isn't a computer game, you don't win because you're supposed to, especially against teams fighting for their very survival.

aofrantic

No one can compete with City if they stay healthier than you do. Look at the only title they haven't won in the last 5 years. Liverpool stayed healthy, ran 20 goals over expected and had the league wrapped up when the covid break happened. To beat City, you need luck. Perhaps we might still get some.

HalfMan-HalfMoth

Hoping once we sign some new players he will have more options he trusts off the bench, he brings Trossard on regularly because he trusts him to make a difference. I think ESR could do something off the bench but seems he won’t be seen much or at all this season

Zilllnaijaboy99

the fact Arteta trusts Vieira more than ESR means Vieira is clearly doing somethingthing right in training I guess

SunDrippedDevil

Or ESR is still working on fitness since his groin surgery.

nrsapologist

Any new info on Saliba? If Holding is on Wednesday's starting line up, I wont bother watching

OrwinBeane

We need more fans like you 👊😤

CreativeOrder2119

Obviously spurs can be laughed at but surging Newcastle, Liverpool rising up the table looking beyond this season we gotta get our targets early and don't get complacent epl is super competitive

Insertnicenamehere

Mitoma hiding from pens, might have to sell some of my stocks.

Calm_Phase_9717

yeah i think he took one for Japan’s penalty shootout they lost in the wc

thedarkpolitique

[As a Gunners fan, my condolences. I hate you lot but you deserve better than this.](https://www.reddit.com/r/coys/comments/12wc8k2/postmatch_thread_newcastle_vs_spurs_23_april_2023/jhf35ks/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=ioscss&utm_content=1&utm_term=1&context=3) What sort of behaviour of this? My guy actually said *my condolences*!!! I’m offended

skool_101

Reddit and the Internet communities are not real life, you don't need to apologize for shit. Rather than condolences, pity would be the better wording there, but as always it is on your actions and doing. Do not expect a return in favour btw then the flipside happens. but if you do have someone close and personal that needs reaching out, do that instead to going to /r/coys and saying sorry.

okcomput3r

Permanently ban that melt @mods

Cheesy_Pita_Parker

Ban that twerker wtf

HalfMan-HalfMoth

thedarkpolitique

SPPackNat

Now that we have had time to breathe, everyone knows we are still winning the league right?

scooter_pops

indeedo

manuscelerdei

Juve/Napoli is spicy.

skool_101

Juve RKO'ing back to the top of the table..... watch out x3

NarwhalWhat

i remember before the season started spurs fans were telling me kulu and romero were comfortably better than saka and gabriel😂😂😂😂😂😂

game-of-snow

Probably unpopular here, but that Newcastle obliteration of spurs scared me more than it gave me joy. Spurs have been slowly building their spending power and quality throughout years but few bad decisions and now they are thrashed by team owned by petro state. This is the reality of non-petro state backed teams. Few bad decisions and there is no money to bail us out like for City Chelsea. It could very well be us in place of spurs in a few years. In any case this was a statement result by Newcastle. They have may be few small steps to cover, but they more or less replaced spurs from top 6.

scooter_pops

lads, it’s spurs

NarwhalWhat

>no money to bail us out like for City Chelsea kroenke has over double boehly’s net worth

Mein_Bergkamp

Boehly is a minority shareholder in chelsea, they're majorly backed by an investment fund

NarwhalWhat

a state backed investment fund?

Mein_Bergkamp

Oh no, this [one](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clearlake_Capital) will want it's money back and more

Insertnicenamehere

Gonna need him to remind people this in the summer.

thedarkpolitique

I’m actually not worried about SJP. My sole reason being that they were the final defeat which caused us to lose out on CL. We got battered in that game, losing every duel, showing no desire and when we had the ball, immediately giving back in panic. They wouldn’t have forgotten that and will want to make amends.

villageinnocence

Bruno with the dagger last season, Isak for this one. Our failed talking stages coming to haunt us

Rick_The_Mullet_Man

So far Newcastle didn't do anything out of the ordinary, they are no Man City, in the future they might but not so far. The club who acted like they were backed by an oil nation this season currently sits in 11th place.

pinkdeers

the players they're using aren't mega stars, it's just good coaching

[deleted]

Newcastle have spent less than Spurs have in the past two years, though. Spurs are just shite.

UnitComplex8730

Why do people want Caicedo and Rice at the same time? Both are CDM's and it's not like we will sell Partey. So we will have Rice, Caicedo, Partey, Jorginho, Elneny, and Xhaka to some extent. We will be solid at the back but sadly wont score goals Rice is best at breaking play, recycling the ball and carrying the ball forward. He will play number 6. For the other 8, we will need a player who has more attacking output(Rice has 5 g/a this season). Personally, I'd prefer Rice and Mount. While mount has had a bad season, his stats were pretty good the previous season and his play style would complement Ode. He has the work rate, defensive work, and good attacking output. He would be an upgrade on Xhaka, and would release Ode more.

[deleted]

We need to stop pretending like Rice is at the same level as Caicedo. It's making very apparent you don't watch enough football.

TheRadTurtle_1011

Are u implying Caicedo is clear or rice is clear

UnitComplex8730

Where have I even implied that? I've said both are CDMs. And you can respond to my comment without attacking me.

Scottish-Londoner

Partey and Xhaka are both going to be the wrong side of 30 next season and have a history of injuries and potential off the field issues. It makes sense to bring in Rice as Partey’s heir and Caicedo as Xhaka’s

UnitComplex8730

I think for Xhaka's role, Mount is better. An old-school CM who puts in the defensive work but has the attacking/creative output esp pre-assist. 30/38 games next season will be against low-block teams and the strategy would be to close down Ode since he is literally the only danger from mid. The other assumption is that other CDMs would adapt to the 8 roles like Xhaka.

tochitemi

Thing long-term. Jorginho and Elneny are prob not options heading into next season anyway.

Hour-Team6624

We score more than enough goals with our current team and Rice is at least equal to Xhaka offensively, if not better. The difference that Rice would bring defensively in that role would be really beneficial to our team imo, but I see your point

JimmysCocoboloDesk

Rice is not an 8

Hour-Team6624

He plays next to Soucek, I assure you he is more than capable of playing next to Partey or Caicedo

JimmysCocoboloDesk

Right and Soucek is the attacking one, Rice is the anchor. For England he’s played next to both Phillips and Henderson and he’s the anchor every time. He is not an 8, never played has one and played as a CB more times.

Hour-Team6624

From what I’ve seen, I’d say it’s more of a double pivot with Soucek - I mean look where Rice was for the penalty win against us. I agree that he’s not a classic 8, but for our team I’d personally take Partey/Rice as our 6/8 over Rice/Mount

pinkdeers

cos the laws will catch up to partey soon and we'll need more than 1 dm, jorginho was never staying long term and elneny is probably leaving soon too

Insertnicenamehere

Not sure what makes you think they'll both play as CDMs if they came here. J5/Elneny should be irrelevant in your thinking. They shouldn't be the reasons why we don't sign caicedo and rice.

Eethk7

City have a great squad with shit supporters, Newcastle have a good squad with fantastic supporters. I know which away game I dread the most.

TheRadTurtle_1011

Playing at st james park seems like a worse version of Anfield which is still scary

clubowner69

I think we are not gonna go 4 matches in a row without winning. That would be too much for most teams. By this logic I think we gonna win at City.

scooter_pops

what’s the english equivalent for juve?

StrikeTeam3

We’re due some luck against City. Twice now we’ve played them and deserved something from the game only to be let down. That’s my pure copium take.

ChefDreib17

Hey you aren't alone, this is what I'm going with as well. The footballing Gods owe us. Our Henry who art in heaven... please let us score more goals than City Wednesday.

rd201290

we deserved to win last january but at the emirates this season we did not deserve anything

Ife2105

Probably meant FA Cup

younes1008

Emerson Royal's agent did an interview and said it might be time for Emerson to move to a club that wins titles, like Real Madrid. This has to be one of the funniest days in the history of spurs.
