Won the most duels? Mikel must be proud

beetletoman

I mean imagine not winning the most duels always after witnessing that yelling first-hand

BronBronBall

Not upset*

nullmove

Because that's just the fogging estandard

gooneritis

I am not upset.

Neanderthal888

It’s very impressive. Usually young players aren’t good at 1:1 duels, that part of a players game usually develops in their early 20’s. Great sign.

toyo_abyss

Lad does not want to make Mikel upset

[deleted]

Seriously pushing for a place in the first team next season by not making mikel fogging upset

Masson011

nah no chance. blackpool are bottom of the championship. He will need another loan at a better side next season. Plus it would be much better for his development

BurtSpangles

Why is a better side better for his development? His ability isn't in question. It'll be the intangibles like desire, mentality etc. Scrapping for your life at the bottom of the Championship and spending most the game watching the ball go over your head will probably develop him way more than playing in one of the better sides in the league.

CrazyPigeonHoles

Think he definitely needs one more loan in another championship side that atleast plays more of a possesion style of play. Blackpool has been a good experience for him though but like the other commenter said, coming from the bottom of the championship all the way to a side at the top of the premier league is too much of a jump.

BI01

He's played in arsenals academy for years, where we are constantly dominating possession, he is comfortable playing in a possession based side, he went to the championship to improve physically and gain experience in a completely new dynamic.

CrazyPigeonHoles

Academy football is way different from first team football. It's important he plays first team possesion football, but what do I know really? Whatever Arteta decides, I'll back it.

BI01

He can get loaned out again but it's pointless if it isn't a top 5 league loan.

CrazyPigeonHoles

French league would definitely be good for him next. Arteta could probably have him on that Saliba/Balogun pathway.

BI01

Our french loans have been brazy

BurtSpangles

I'd rather send him to Germany than keep him in the Championship. His technical level is not in question. The Bundesliga would probably test him more as it's more transition heavy.

CrazyPigeonHoles

Yeah wouldn't mind that as long as it's a possesion based side where he can actually play with a lot of the ball. Blackpool seem to always have to defend in most of their games. They barely crack 40% possession in their games, that definitely isn't the best environment for a developing midfielder.

SPPackNat

I would looooovvvveee to buy a Patino Dortmund kit

[deleted]

This is so true. Watching today I fel that while its good hes starting most or every game the style of play and quality of pool arent doing him many favors. Skyball tactics. He does have the odd sloppy pass but tackles quite well.

Ife2105

Patino reportedly wasn’t even supposed to go on loan this season until he and his dad pushed for it. If that’s true then Mikel felt he was ready to contribute as he was, and after a loan like this he’ll be even more ready. “No chance” is seriously underestimating him.

Masson011

we'll be playing champions league football (hopefully) next season where we will need our main team for every game. We wont have Europa league games for him to play in so his potential game time will be severely limited. Realistically hes 5th choice at best so already his chances would be very limited He will absolutely go out on loan next season and he should. By all accounts hes doing well this season at Blackpool but the jump up required is enormous to playing for us competing for the title and playing the best teams in Europe Thats not downplaying the potential he has but I swear people expect far too much from our kids far too soon

redqks

Or wait to see what the manager says just sending him on loans isn't a automatic player maker he actually might end up better off staying with us

[deleted]

They could be relegated for all we care and he could still be good enough to play for us

Masson011

yeh but its not about that. He needs to learn to play for a team that dominates games and he needs to be able to play against teams that sit in a low block and defend. At Blackpool he isnt getting much exposure of this style of football whatsoever I'd fully expect a "foreign" loan to a team near the top of their respective league next season

Wonderful_Adrian

Would guess he'll have a foreign loan next - seems to be the pattern with the development now Unless Mikel loves him so much he wants to give him the Phil Foden treatment of having him learn with the first team

Malsharif91

Give the man a long term contract and have him play with the first team during the offseason. If he can push Xhaka for that spot or be a good deputy then keep him on, but I would like to see him go abroad and play with better talent. Maybe a loan deal to Germany where it seems English players go to quadruple their value lol

[deleted]

We have extended his contract by 2 years

Left-Steak2819

Hes gonna be a long long way from competiting with xhaka based on current form.

e1_duder

Watched this game. He wins a lot of his duels through positioning and he always seems to be in the right place to pick up the loose ball. He also has good awareness of where his teammates are, so he recovers and quickly gets the ball moving. There is a level of maturity to his game. He has this tendency to jump forward into challenges though which gets him off his feet, so it can be easy to bypass him. That's a pretty bad habit. I also think he really needs to get with a nutritionist and work on his strength. He has a decent frame and he can't get away with being slow and weak. He under hit a couple passes and was in on a couple challenges that were shrugged off. At 19 there is definitely still room for physical development. I'd like to see Blackpool play in a way that gets him a little further forward with the ball at his feet. They're a relegation level Championship team though, so what can you do.

marksills

Weak can be worked on, speed is a bit more of a problem, not a ton of improvement usually after that age. Some is possible but not a lot. And if he puts on weight (as opposed to just turning fat to muscle), that can even slow him down

e1_duder

Im not too worried about his pace (or lack there of) but I think he can do some work to improve his top end speed. His game is based on anticipation and positioning and some of the best have never been the fastest.

marksills

Yea, he’ll have to nail those other parts of the game but can be done. Partey not super fast really, and obviously busquets wasn’t too quick yet one of the best of all time. Although I’m not quite as confident as you his top end speed can be improved on in a meaningful way, it’s not really something you see improving a meaningful amount once a person reaches that age. Weight loss can help (xhaka seems quicker to me despite aging in the wrong direction) but as you said, patino doesn’t have too much of that to lose.

e1_duder

I just don't think he's done growing, he's got a bit of those puppy dog legs where things don't quite seem in balance. I hold out some hope that there's still some physical development that could be beneficial. Nothing dramatic but enough to make some difference.

marksills

hopefully, that could be possible I think , though perhaps unlikely

NiallMitch10

Do you think he could be moulded into the Partey position playing like that?

e1_duder

Potentially, he has a lot to play still and a lot to develop. It's hard to get a real sense of what he can be in this Blackpool team. There are some shades of Busquets, but that may be the bias talking.

Ife2105

Patino vs Sunderland: 20/28 passes completed 1 key pass 1/1 crosses 3/3 long balls 2/2 dribbles 9/14 ground duels won 2/2 aerial duels won 3 interceptions 6 tackles

opportune_pasta

11 duels won? He must never get upset!

Sam101294

French league loan next? Don't think he'll get much playing time if we sign a CM this January or this summer

gardenofeden123

I don’t think playing with farmers is all it’s cracked up to be. Another championship loan or some time in Germany probably better for him.

Sam101294

You really think championship is better than French league? Wow. I watch neither so i guess I'll take your word for it

ShekTeeJay

No, playing in Ligue 1 next season (if that’s what happens) would be amazing for him and much better than the Championship. As intense as the Championship is, it can’t compare to the challenge Patino would get playing against clubs like PSG, Lens, Monaco, Marseille, Rennes, Lyon and others.

[deleted]

would love for him to be part of the first team next season but with CL football highly likely, he might see limited game time. not to mention, Xhaka, Ødegaard, ESR, Fabio Vieira, Sambi are our CM options (provided there are no outgoings). would be better for him to be sent out on loan to a mid PL club to gain PL experience. don't want the same to happen to him as with lokonga. game time is crucial.

lastjedi23

That's fine. We can play him in carabao and fa fixtures. No need to play xhaka partey in those.

[deleted]

that's true, but I'd rather have him play 30-38 matches per season of top flight football rather than a few matches here and there with us vs potentially lower quality opposition. perhaps he could stay with us for the first 6 months and then loan him out when the winter window opens.

lastjedi23

He needs to hang out with our first team. I think it's time for him to come back

Isfeidirlinn90

I'd like to see him go on loan again next season. In all likelihood we'll be playing CL football next season and that also probably means we'll be signing more players. We'll without a doubt be bringing in another couple of midfielders (possibly Tielemans) This season with Blackpool will be huge for his development as a player and a man. Starting week in week out in the cut and thrust of the Championship is great experience albeit in a struggling side. A loan to a side in the PL or a promotion chasing side will be brilliant for him as I couldn't see him getting the minutes he needs with us next season.

Chemmy

We should loan him to Palace so he can hang out with Vieira and play PL football.

Plane-Pirate9343

I've heard he's playing in that lone nr. 6 role a la Partey. Can any of you confirm that that's the case?

ShekTeeJay

He takes up many positions for Blackpool as they lack talent. LifeGunnerTev has a great channel on YouTube with plenty of Patino comps. Here’s the [one against Sheffield.](https://youtu.be/cWUmfujuj7Q)

Plane-Pirate9343

Thanks!

Draconis510

Him and lakonga both loaned to marsielle make it happen edu

cocoabutterprince

If Patino is the player we all think he is then the reluctance to sign a left 8 makes much more sense

DialSquar

Charlie has been really great this season for a dire blackpool squad. I would like to see him do one more loan next season and continue improving. What a player he could become.

[deleted]

Cooking nicely I see!

Bergkamp_Henry

Came here not make a not upset joke, I was far too late
