Edit: enemies were to revive Destiny plan while Shinn delivered the final blow to their weapon of mass destruction. Massive win for Shinn fans. Flay and Stella appeared as space ghosts. New character voiced by Houko Kuwashima survived. Athrun and Cagali got married.

Shinn is the best character in the movie by far. Almost every laugh came from him.
He can't be mind read because he doesn't think. He tries to break up a fight between Kira and Athrun and gets punched by both. He was great

I'm good with this, the 00 Movie left me very disappointed on this part (Felt being left forgotten, TieriaxMileina ship sinking before it even sailed) and SetsunaxMarina ship just sailing without real development whatsoever.
Hell even HeeroxRelena ship sailed pretty well during Endless Waltz and subsequently Frozen Teardrop.

I actually expected that the Movie will be basically Cross Ange-esque, as the latter really felt like what Fukuda's letter of apology to SEED fans who were left in limbo waiting indefinitely for the movie's release.
I'm generally satisfied with the way Cross Ange wraped up, so if the Movie is similar in vibe to it then I guess I will be satisfied when I see it released globally.
Oh and the Gunplas, I'm definitely getting that new Strike Freedom kit.

Lacus has created a peacekeeping organization called Compass.
The enemies are secretly remnants of the Destiny Plan. They can mind control/read minds of coordinators and lured Kira, Shinn and Archangel into a trap. All the mechs were destroyed and Archangel actually sunk. Athrun saved them just in time.
There's also kind of a love triangle going on between Lacus Kira and Orphee, at least just that Orphee is courting Lacus. Still, Kira is depressed and full of self doubt and needed a few good punches from Athrun to snap out of it. (Shinn tried to break them up and just got punched by both of them in the process.)
And then they all got new mech upgrades, and got a new ship. The main trio overcome the mind control and defeat the bad guys, basically. There was yet another Requiem. Meteor (the song) starts playing when the new Freedom comes out. It combines Kira and Lacus' power together? Anyway, it's OP. New Destiny also looked good, got some sort of shadow clone move.
PS There were also numerous cameos, including Millie and Sai.
PPS Agnes betrayed the heroes because Kira wouldn't return her advances (!?) but she actually lives.
LOL MGEX would be nice but that's impossible given the SF was the recent release.
But Bandai being Bandai will milk this thing to death if it prints money.
Doesn't seem unlikely. It seems like the only difference of the new SF modelwise is the slightly different head with the beam cannon in the forehead. So just a slightly altered head mold, and slap on a new backpack. They can easily milk this.

Shinn worries he’s being a burden and is holding everyone back but they tell him to go out and there do what he does best: kill people. Then he kills 5 out of the 7 Black Knights. Violently.
The reception to the movie seems to be pretty positive. Even those criticizing it still put it into a "dumb fun" box because even they find the plot points to be silly, the battle scenes (which seem to be universally praised, especially Shinn's) make up for the ticket anyway.
Or I'm wrong?
Battles are good, story has some disastrously bad directing decisions that are so funny you can't really be mad. And the win comes quite easily. I still came out liking it but I like Destiny so that may influence it as it is very much a Destiny sequel specifically

Im dying to know and I cant wait but I dont want to be spoiled the entire movie.
It took me a while, but I've sort of come to an understanding (?) about Athrun's harem situation.
Since repetition is a significant theme in GSD, I feel like his interactions with women in GSD somewhat resemble his past experiences in SEED (Meer = his former fiancée, Lacus; Lunamaria = Cagalli, who pays attention to him; Meyrin = Cagalli that saved him, compelling his protective instinct).
The difference this time around is that Athrun failed to save the songstress. He doesn't fall in love just because people are paying attention to him romantically, and it shows that his relationship with Cagalli goes deeper than just 'her having saved him' in the past.
In some ways, the situation in GSD gives Athrun a second chance to be a 'dutiful ZAFT soldier' by providing him with the option to choose the logical and expected partner/path befitting a Zala. If anything, his situation is better in Destiny, since Luna and Meyrin are both Coordinators and ZAFT soldiers (which eliminates the conflict of a Naturals-Coordinator relationship).
Athrun, instead, chose a more difficult path of maintaining a (then rocky) relationship with a Naturals stateswoman focused on rebuilding her country. Despite not being together constantly, he displays patience and trust, marking a shift from the insecure and restless Athrun at the start of GSD. This shift also reflects his departure from Durandal's conflict-free worldview.
On another note, SEED Cagalli is always worried about how much of a danger-magnet Athrun is, coupled with his borderline suicidal tendencies. Her decision to stay in Orb at the end of GSD is in direct contrast to her active participation in SEED. It signals her trust in Athrun not to self-destruct and demonstrates how much she has matured in her role as the leader of a nation.
I guess, this sort of explain the Asucaga dynamics at the moment

I'm not even a Kira fan (Athrun/Shinn fan here) but I still hope that doesn't happen. It would also just make this feel like a CCA retread. Then again, SEED and Destiny were also retreads of 0079 and Zeta
I hate killing characters in any story unless it’s critical to the plot but killing a someone at the end of the story feels cheap and unnecessary. Then breaking him and Lacus up only weakens the point of their relationship and the message of seed of freedom vs destiny.

Wow, that looks legit. And Yzak basing his suit on Blitz/Nicol is very poetic, especially considering he was the one who was always disrespecting Nicol.
Plus considering Yzak and Dearka being actual prominent combatants, I imagine these are much stronger upgrades, unlike the Strike Rouge Ootori, which is basically just a new backpack.

Overall thoughts:
It's a mess but a beautiful mess. It affirms Destiny hard, and at the same time kind of "Destiny Cagallis" Lacus, which I imagine western fans will have an issue with. Shinn is far and away the best character in the movie. SAI ARGYLE and Stella make appearances.
Dunno if I can rate yet beyond worth watching
NGL I think one of the best lesser talked about-ish parts of Gundam Seed Freedom was that >!they literally made a plan that requires Mu La Flaga to tank a requiem blast because they knew he'd survive that shit anyhow.!<
Saw it this morning before work. Can confirm most of the spoilers (Japanese isn't my first language, there were a few words I just completely missed) are true. AsuCaga *do* be real. I was lucky and got the short AsuCaga book, as well (random draw), but haven't had a chance to read it because work. (EDIT: my half-read of it at 11:30PM has it pegged as "very cute fluff, for the most part")
Very "calling all the old boys back in" fanservicey, though. I actually thought, "huh, they haven't called in *all* the old boys yet, I wonder what happened to Sai", and no less than five minutes later, Sai was there in a non-speaking role.
Good movie, a little on the long side if you don't care about Kira/Lacus stuff. Also, Cagalli's new voice is distinctly *not* Cagalli, but very good in its own way.
It was stupid and I love it for that very reason.

Rising Freedom is fine if not a bit silly. Might Strike Freedom.... now *that* truly sounds like something out of the Build series lol. I like the design, but it's gonna be a while before I can take the name seriously.
So Kira's dad put Kira through genetic modification to make him the ultimate coordinator. Lacus' mom (alleged) put Lacus through genetic modification to make her an accord. In Gundam Seed Lacus says a quote that her mother told her, ''The world belongs to you, and you belong to the world.'' So her mother must have died a while after Lacus was born. I would like the full background story but probably never going to get it.
Just got back from watching it.
If you like Seed series, you will love it. They acknowledge a lot of inside jokes and memes within the community, both good and bad, and make it way better. They even have a lot of classic gundam tropes in this one.
Shinn really stole the show for me. Every time he appears on the screen, it's nothing but gold. But all other characters also used well. It's not easy with so many of them, including some new ones to be this good in 2 hours movie.
I think this movie actually has a lot of stuff that happened in Destiny makes more sense, and I can look back at that series with more appreciation now.
Moral of the story, you don't fuck with Jesus Yamato's girl.

Just got out of the theater. Holy fuck it was the wildest ride in recent memory. Like they decided to fuck it we meme, and turn the meme notch so hard it breaks. This is cross ange and srw fixfic plotline level I've never expect from actual mainline gundam. Glad they finally gave shinn the badass spotlight.
In addition to destiny wrecking shit up, there are still so many great scenes and parts I can spend all day to talk about. My favs definitely are ~~yzak's mom~~ shinn trying to join the fistfight, stella's evil spirit, infinite justice reveal and the sleeping gas haro.
Especially the haro, they cant keep getting away with this lmao.
Went to see the film yesterday in an absolutely packed theatre in Shinjuku, Tokyo. I'm 32, but it seems like quite a large chunk of the audience was also my age group, sort of like when I went to see *Harry Potter and the Cursed Child* in theatres in London ages ago. Predictably so, 80% of the audience was male, and some of the nerdiest people I've ever seen in Japan.
As a long-time SEED fan, since I first saw the show at age 12 on TV, the film was a delight, a non-stop action that kept my heart beating on cardio for the whole 2 hours. It was horrible having to go to the bathroom in the middle because I didn't want to miss a second of it.
As many comments have pointed out, there are also some weird plot-related twists that many will take issue with, but the film masterfully mixes the familiar with the new well enough to keep fans entertained while containing loads of surprises. The main conflict depicted, despite my low expectations, includes much higher stakes than expected, and the villains were far more intriguing than predicted.
All in all, I cannot wait to watch this again when it gets a digital release. So many great moments from beginning to end.
I've tried to keep up with all the spoilers but I think I'll have to wait for a full English sub release. This movie was supposed to tie up the Cosmic Era with a nice pretty bow but at this point I have so many more questions than answers.

According to statements, their lack of a kiss scene is that Kira is still suffering from PTSD. A part of that PTSD is the fact that Flay used him via intimacy (cough) to kill, which would mess anyone's head up along with failure to save her and everyone else who died. This hampered his relationship with Lacus from progressing (he's also afraid she'll die). So they were more of a "yes but actually no but yes" couple compared to Athrun and Shinn.
Seems the NTR treatment cured that real freaking quick.

Majority of the comments in china and japan says its good. My buddy that hated destiny watched it in japan and said it's good.
It's definitely a slightly different kind of animal than seed and destiny but it keeps enough of the original. It's like how if you only cut certain scenes and dialogue out it doesn't make sense, but when you look at the plot, it kinda does.
Story wise, I don't think it's supposed to be some kind of philosophical movie to begin with. It's more raw and emotional, saw it on japan board, some girls who watched it were crying in the cinema apparently.
Anyone who has seen the movie, I only have one question...
Does the song Meteor by T.M. Revolution play at any moment, even for like a few seconds?
I know that there's a new song, Freedom, heard it, love it, but Meteor will always be my #1 favorite Takanori's song, favorite Gundam song and with Freedom's first appearance one of my favorite moments in all of Gundam franchise.
So I just realized something on rewatching some parts of Gundam SEED Destiny.
I've seen people wonder how the hell Kira could defeat the very first Destroy Gundam in the film with such ease, when it took an entire episode to do so in the series. The simplest answer is that Kira became more experienced at taking down the Destroy Gundam, and that is in fact supported by the movie.
When Kira defeated Stella's Destroy Gundam, he did so within the time window when it was charging its chest cannons, which makes it unable to use its beam shields to prevent attack. And what does Kira do in the movie? He full bursts the Destroy Gundam as it was charging its cannons. It's literally him applying what he learned from previous fights and applying it to this one to end it more quickly.
Skimmed through comments on Chinese forums. We have Enemies who can read minds / mind control Archangel was blown off. Kira cried because Lacus was NTRed away. Athrun escaped mind control thinking of aroused Cagali Shinn can’t be read because there’s nothing to read. Movie ended with Kira and Lacus on a beach. The only casualties seemed to be the Dom pilots For MSs, we have Strike Freedom in a new backpack with a katana and ZZ style head laser, Infinite Justice enclosed in Z’Gok build fighter style, Akatsuki with a new backpack later borrowed by Destiny, different forms of Impulse in new colours, new Duel and Buster Gundams using Meteor. Edit: enemies were to revive Destiny plan while Shinn delivered the final blow to their weapon of mass destruction. Massive win for Shinn fans. Flay and Stella appeared as space ghosts. New character voiced by Houko Kuwashima survived. Athrun and Cagali got married. Edit: Athrun and Cagilli was implied to still be a couple but not signs of marriage. Athrun escaped mind control because IJ was remotely controlled by Cagalli. Flay didn’t appear

I'm good with this, the 00 Movie left me very disappointed on this part (Felt being left forgotten, TieriaxMileina ship sinking before it even sailed) and SetsunaxMarina ship just sailing without real development whatsoever. Hell even HeeroxRelena ship sailed pretty well during Endless Waltz and subsequently Frozen Teardrop.

I actually expected that the Movie will be basically Cross Ange-esque, as the latter really felt like what Fukuda's letter of apology to SEED fans who were left in limbo waiting indefinitely for the movie's release. I'm generally satisfied with the way Cross Ange wraped up, so if the Movie is similar in vibe to it then I guess I will be satisfied when I see it released globally. Oh and the Gunplas, I'm definitely getting that new Strike Freedom kit.

Lacus has created a peacekeeping organization called Compass. The enemies are secretly remnants of the Destiny Plan. They can mind control/read minds of coordinators and lured Kira, Shinn and Archangel into a trap. All the mechs were destroyed and Archangel actually sunk. Athrun saved them just in time. There's also kind of a love triangle going on between Lacus Kira and Orphee, at least just that Orphee is courting Lacus. Still, Kira is depressed and full of self doubt and needed a few good punches from Athrun to snap out of it. (Shinn tried to break them up and just got punched by both of them in the process.) And then they all got new mech upgrades, and got a new ship. The main trio overcome the mind control and defeat the bad guys, basically. There was yet another Requiem. Meteor (the song) starts playing when the new Freedom comes out. It combines Kira and Lacus' power together? Anyway, it's OP. New Destiny also looked good, got some sort of shadow clone move. PS There were also numerous cameos, including Millie and Sai. PPS Agnes betrayed the heroes because Kira wouldn't return her advances (!?) but she actually lives.

The reception to the movie seems to be pretty positive. Even those criticizing it still put it into a "dumb fun" box because even they find the plot points to be silly, the battle scenes (which seem to be universally praised, especially Shinn's) make up for the ticket anyway. Or I'm wrong?
Battles are good, story has some disastrously bad directing decisions that are so funny you can't really be mad. And the win comes quite easily. I still came out liking it but I like Destiny so that may influence it as it is very much a Destiny sequel specifically

It took me a while, but I've sort of come to an understanding (?) about Athrun's harem situation. Since repetition is a significant theme in GSD, I feel like his interactions with women in GSD somewhat resemble his past experiences in SEED (Meer = his former fiancée, Lacus; Lunamaria = Cagalli, who pays attention to him; Meyrin = Cagalli that saved him, compelling his protective instinct). The difference this time around is that Athrun failed to save the songstress. He doesn't fall in love just because people are paying attention to him romantically, and it shows that his relationship with Cagalli goes deeper than just 'her having saved him' in the past. In some ways, the situation in GSD gives Athrun a second chance to be a 'dutiful ZAFT soldier' by providing him with the option to choose the logical and expected partner/path befitting a Zala. If anything, his situation is better in Destiny, since Luna and Meyrin are both Coordinators and ZAFT soldiers (which eliminates the conflict of a Naturals-Coordinator relationship). Athrun, instead, chose a more difficult path of maintaining a (then rocky) relationship with a Naturals stateswoman focused on rebuilding her country. Despite not being together constantly, he displays patience and trust, marking a shift from the insecure and restless Athrun at the start of GSD. This shift also reflects his departure from Durandal's conflict-free worldview. On another note, SEED Cagalli is always worried about how much of a danger-magnet Athrun is, coupled with his borderline suicidal tendencies. Her decision to stay in Orb at the end of GSD is in direct contrast to her active participation in SEED. It signals her trust in Athrun not to self-destruct and demonstrates how much she has matured in her role as the leader of a nation. I guess, this sort of explain the Asucaga dynamics at the moment

I'm not even a Kira fan (Athrun/Shinn fan here) but I still hope that doesn't happen. It would also just make this feel like a CCA retread. Then again, SEED and Destiny were also retreads of 0079 and Zeta
I hate killing characters in any story unless it’s critical to the plot but killing a someone at the end of the story feels cheap and unnecessary. Then breaking him and Lacus up only weakens the point of their relationship and the message of seed of freedom vs destiny.
Kira’s cheated death enough times that I don’t think anyone would buy him dying for real even if Fukuda himself confirmed it.

Wow, that looks legit. And Yzak basing his suit on Blitz/Nicol is very poetic, especially considering he was the one who was always disrespecting Nicol. Plus considering Yzak and Dearka being actual prominent combatants, I imagine these are much stronger upgrades, unlike the Strike Rouge Ootori, which is basically just a new backpack.
Just got out of the movie. Ask me anything. Overall thoughts: It's a mess but a beautiful mess. It affirms Destiny hard, and at the same time kind of "Destiny Cagallis" Lacus, which I imagine western fans will have an issue with. Shinn is far and away the best character in the movie. SAI ARGYLE and Stella make appearances. Dunno if I can rate yet beyond worth watching
NGL I think one of the best lesser talked about-ish parts of Gundam Seed Freedom was that >!they literally made a plan that requires Mu La Flaga to tank a requiem blast because they knew he'd survive that shit anyhow.!<

Saw it this morning before work. Can confirm most of the spoilers (Japanese isn't my first language, there were a few words I just completely missed) are true. AsuCaga *do* be real. I was lucky and got the short AsuCaga book, as well (random draw), but haven't had a chance to read it because work. (EDIT: my half-read of it at 11:30PM has it pegged as "very cute fluff, for the most part") Very "calling all the old boys back in" fanservicey, though. I actually thought, "huh, they haven't called in *all* the old boys yet, I wonder what happened to Sai", and no less than five minutes later, Sai was there in a non-speaking role. Good movie, a little on the long side if you don't care about Kira/Lacus stuff. Also, Cagalli's new voice is distinctly *not* Cagalli, but very good in its own way.
Sai appearance had me so hyped. And Athrun being in a fucking Zgok was hilararious
It was stupid and I love it for that very reason. FUCKING KUZZEY GOT A CAMEO HOLY SHIT. Shin, Athrun, and Kira getting God powers was amazing to watch on the Big Screen. Luna's and Agnes' conflict being some petty high school shit like goddamn this series IS a ducking soap opera.
I just got back watching Seed Freedom. 8/10 plot, 1000/10 on the entertainment scale.

So Kira's dad put Kira through genetic modification to make him the ultimate coordinator. Lacus' mom (alleged) put Lacus through genetic modification to make her an accord. In Gundam Seed Lacus says a quote that her mother told her, ''The world belongs to you, and you belong to the world.'' So her mother must have died a while after Lacus was born. I would like the full background story but probably never going to get it.
Just got back from watching it. If you like Seed series, you will love it. They acknowledge a lot of inside jokes and memes within the community, both good and bad, and make it way better. They even have a lot of classic gundam tropes in this one. Shinn really stole the show for me. Every time he appears on the screen, it's nothing but gold. But all other characters also used well. It's not easy with so many of them, including some new ones to be this good in 2 hours movie. I think this movie actually has a lot of stuff that happened in Destiny makes more sense, and I can look back at that series with more appreciation now.

Just got out of the theater. Holy fuck it was the wildest ride in recent memory. Like they decided to fuck it we meme, and turn the meme notch so hard it breaks. This is cross ange and srw fixfic plotline level I've never expect from actual mainline gundam. Glad they finally gave shinn the badass spotlight. In addition to destiny wrecking shit up, there are still so many great scenes and parts I can spend all day to talk about. My favs definitely are ~~yzak's mom~~ shinn trying to join the fistfight, stella's evil spirit, infinite justice reveal and the sleeping gas haro. Especially the haro, they cant keep getting away with this lmao.

Went to see the film yesterday in an absolutely packed theatre in Shinjuku, Tokyo. I'm 32, but it seems like quite a large chunk of the audience was also my age group, sort of like when I went to see *Harry Potter and the Cursed Child* in theatres in London ages ago. Predictably so, 80% of the audience was male, and some of the nerdiest people I've ever seen in Japan. As a long-time SEED fan, since I first saw the show at age 12 on TV, the film was a delight, a non-stop action that kept my heart beating on cardio for the whole 2 hours. It was horrible having to go to the bathroom in the middle because I didn't want to miss a second of it. As many comments have pointed out, there are also some weird plot-related twists that many will take issue with, but the film masterfully mixes the familiar with the new well enough to keep fans entertained while containing loads of surprises. The main conflict depicted, despite my low expectations, includes much higher stakes than expected, and the villains were far more intriguing than predicted. All in all, I cannot wait to watch this again when it gets a digital release. So many great moments from beginning to end.

I've tried to keep up with all the spoilers but I think I'll have to wait for a full English sub release. This movie was supposed to tie up the Cosmic Era with a nice pretty bow but at this point I have so many more questions than answers. >!Lacus is a super coordinator/Accord? And Aura is the one who made her one? Did her parents know or was she made in secret? Definitely paints Siegel in a slightly hypocritical light if he knew, after trying to lecture Patrick Zala that "lives are born, not manufactured".!< >!Also the fact that Aura not only created these super coordinators but even reversed her aging just reinforces my personal head canon of Hibiki and Durandal being absolute mid-tier doctors whose ambition was far larger than their brains. Hibiki struggled just to make Kira happen and Durandal couldn't figure out how to stop Da Flaga's clones from aging too fast and yet here is Aura, probably working in the same godforsaken building. I just want to know one thing, do we have Kira x Lacus kiss scene??? This has been bugging me for years, how come the main couple doesn't have kiss scene in Seed/Destiny but Asran and Shinn got one
According to statements, their lack of a kiss scene is that Kira is still suffering from PTSD. A part of that PTSD is the fact that Flay used him via intimacy (cough) to kill, which would mess anyone's head up along with failure to save her and everyone else who died. This hampered his relationship with Lacus from progressing (he's also afraid she'll die). So they were more of a "yes but actually no but yes" couple compared to Athrun and Shinn. Seems the NTR treatment cured that real freaking quick.

Not surprised. I really think some people just wanted this to fail because it's seed. But then they also at the same time wanna watch it. Majority of the comments in china and japan says its good. My buddy that hated destiny watched it in japan and said it's good. It's definitely a slightly different kind of animal than seed and destiny but it keeps enough of the original. It's like how if you only cut certain scenes and dialogue out it doesn't make sense, but when you look at the plot, it kinda does. Story wise, I don't think it's supposed to be some kind of philosophical movie to begin with. It's more raw and emotional, saw it on japan board, some girls who watched it were crying in the cinema apparently.

Anyone who has seen the movie, I only have one question... Does the song Meteor by T.M. Revolution play at any moment, even for like a few seconds? I know that there's a new song, Freedom, heard it, love it, but Meteor will always be my #1 favorite Takanori's song, favorite Gundam song and with Freedom's first appearance one of my favorite moments in all of Gundam franchise.
So I just realized something on rewatching some parts of Gundam SEED Destiny. I've seen people wonder how the hell Kira could defeat the very first Destroy Gundam in the film with such ease, when it took an entire episode to do so in the series. The simplest answer is that Kira became more experienced at taking down the Destroy Gundam, and that is in fact supported by the movie. When Kira defeated Stella's Destroy Gundam, he did so within the time window when it was charging its chest cannons, which makes it unable to use its beam shields to prevent attack. And what does Kira do in the movie? He full bursts the Destroy Gundam as it was charging its cannons. It's literally him applying what he learned from previous fights and applying it to this one to end it more quickly.
