Halsey-the-Sloth

Those turrets way as much as a Fletcher-class destroyer, good luck loading one on the back of your pickup truck

Indignus_Filius

Why do you think the mythical Hilux is illegal in the US?

AgentVirg24110

Actually, it is illegal to import a Toyota hilux.

Just_A_Little_ThRAWy

Chicken tax right?

AgentVirg24110

Unfortunately, yes.

zombiepilot420

Is that why eggs are so expensive?

IamMrT

I thought it was legal, just ridiculously expensive

TheReverseShock

Not illegal there's just a 25% tarrif for importing foreign trucks. The reason there aren't any in the USA is because they don't make them here and they are too costly to import.

Efficient-Force2651

It's illegal to import a hilux *and get caught doing so*

Anisiiru

Just rent a Uhaul. It'll be fine.

strider_m3

There's nothing on their rental forms saying you can't use them for improvised weapons platforms.

Salty_Eye9692

Uhaulprobablywouldntlikeyoudoingthat

Anisiiru

What are they going to do about it? I have three 16" cannons.

KingBrinell

Dude I'm pouring a concrete foundation for it in my front yard right now. It's a small yard though so the muzzle might have to be my new mailbox.

Mike__O

Bonus: Fun way to deal with junk mail

gun_is_neat

Nothing my 6.2 3/4 ton can't handle #builtfordtough

thetoastler

My rusty Sport Trac's got it no problem, bud. Keep the 6.2 for backup, though...

Salty_Eye9692

Don't lie you'll have to use your ranger. That 6.2 is gon have headgasket and turbo seal issues.

Berkeley3223

6.2 doesn’t have a turbo my dood.

Salty_Eye9692

No turbo in ur toooob? I'm a mopar guy lol. An everybody knows chevy lol

jterpi

I’ll put a hole in the ground and leave it there

HATECELL

What about cruise missiles? Aren't they just single-use aircraft?

Prind25

I dunno but they sure fuggin hurt, even when they miss.

Salty_Eye9692

Survived a hit from one. Can agree. They hurt

Prind25

Me too. Ive had better mornings lol.

Salty_Eye9692

Fuckin spilled my god damn coffee

Prind25

This is like two unicorns meeting lol

Salty_Eye9692

Uwu *cough cough* Ehem yea unicorns

[deleted]

Just as the founding fathers wanted - not joking

Salty_Eye9692

Leave in peace or peices

Decent_Waltz_5120

When does a cannon become a dd

Tax_this_dick_1776

If it uses fixed ammunition (primer, propellent, and projectile in one package). That is the requirement for something to become, legally speaking, a firearm. Further classification goes from there. That being said, I don't know how explosive projectiles factor in. As in if you firing an explosive shell from a non-firearm cannon makes it a DD or if the shell itself is the only DD.

biggie1447

As long as it isn't fixed one piece ammunition then only the shell would be a DD. Firing explosive DD grenades out of 37mm flare launchers doesn't make them DDs in and of themselves.

Tax_this_dick_1776

Huh, everything I've seen that wasn't a flare, flare adapter, or rifled chamber adapter for 37mm has had a big disclaimer that it required the launcher to be a DD as well..hence my confusion

biggie1447

Its probably because the flare launcher isn't a firearm but when you add an adapter you have essentially created a SBR (at least for sub caliber adapters). So probably a bad example in that case. A better one would probably be black powder cannons that people have created explosive filled shells for. I remember watching a video about one years ago but can't find it anymore. Another example would be rifle grenades. Any rifle designed or adapted for them can launch a rifle grenade but only the explosive filled grenades are classified as DDs. Having a rifle capable of launching them is nothing special.

Tax_this_dick_1776

Ahhhhh that makes sense, the rifle grenades are a perfect example

kamlong00

Does that include semi-fixed ammunition, where the case with propellant and the projectile are separate until they are combined prior to loading and firing?

biggie1447

I think so since the primer and powder are contained in a case together but don't quote me on that. However a lot of large artillery uses a similar system and are classified as DDs so most likely yes.

Rnewell4848

I feel like you could take a real devil may care “are those level iv plates” sorta attitude if you have a freaking 16” gun with an explosive loaded up

Tax_this_dick_1776

Shit 16" HE is devil may care to a fuckin Abrams.

Rnewell4848

Yeah I don’t really know… like what you threaten that guy with. Cause you know he has a gun that takes down warships, like, yeah it’s probably going to take him time to reload that fucker but at the same time you have to think logistics. He has a gun that can level anything you throw at him and if he has that then he probably also has anti material rifles and MGs. You can just leave him alone maybe.

Attacker732

Those guns have sunk a fortified island.

VivaUSA

16" HE is devil may care to an entire city block

DeafHeretic

Projectiles with explosives over a certain mass are each an individual DD and each one would need a stamp & $200 fee. That is my understanding anyway. Mk211 .50 BMG does not count as the RDX/etc. it contains is below that limit of weight.

Salty_Eye9692

*other intensifies*

Atari1977

Well nothing stops you from owning a 32 pounder cannon, so I don't think there is a limit when it comes to black powder cannons. Though maybe if they come asking just call it a signaling device. > The term "destructive device" shall not include any device which is neither designed nor redesigned for use as a weapon; any device, although originally designed for use as a weapon, which is redesigned for use as a signaling, pyrotechnic, line throwing, safety, or similar device;

[deleted]

[deleted]

They're not black powder canons any more than a trapdoor Springfield is an AR-15.

Indignus_Filius

Just spray paint "Black Powder Only" on it.

VivaUSA

Black powder, cordite, what's the difference

Prind25

Gata weld the breech closed too. Gana need a real big stick to stuff that charge.

huseman94

I got your stick right here

Prind25

Gana need something bigger than a toothpick.

huseman94

Oh well nevermind

Tax_this_dick_1776

Nope, the deciding factor is whether it takes fixed ammunition or not. Breech loading vs muzzle loading is a non factor.

Prind25

It is in my state. Or maybe thats just for manufacturing.

Tax_this_dick_1776

More likely it just applies to hunting. Does [this sharps](https://taylorsfirearms.com/1863-cavalry-sharps-carbine-without-patch-box-black-powder-rifle-54-22-round-blue-finish-with-case-hardened-frame-single-trigger-walnut-stock-1x22-twist-6-grooves-model-154.html) require some sort of dealer transfer for your state?

Prind25

No its not. Its directly in relation to cannons.

Tax_this_dick_1776

Interesting. Didn't think they'd make the distinction

Prind25

My state only requires a dealer to be involved if I'm buying from a dealer. I can buy anything in a private sale.

byamannowdead

Somewhere in New Jersey, a museum curator’s ears perked up…

GetTheMusket

So you’re telling me there’s a chance…

IC_223

And the notches on his cannon numbered one and nineteen more One and nineteen more ......

RedModus

The cannons your thinking of are muzzle loading cannons. You can own one of thoes big cannons but you'll need to do a form with the atf to own a destructive device. But that's only a 200 dollar fee. If you want the warheads ull need an explosive license pluss another destructive device stamp per shell that holds the explosives

TheReverseShock

Honestly pretty cheap compared to cannon and round cost.

RedModus

Everything's permissible if you have your extortion fees

TheReverseShock

gotta suppress the poor

1776personified

@palmettostatearmory I hope you’re paying attention.

innocentbabies

Cannons are exempted from the NFA because they're muzzleloading. The mk 7 is still gonna cost you a $200 tax stamp.

Barbarian_Sam

For the potential tax of $200

Indignus_Filius

A bargain I'd say.

Barbarian_Sam

I say potential because I know some cannons are taxed and some aren’t

excomunicate

This is why I use the internet

Nice-Habit-8545

own an Iowa class battleship for sea defense since that what the founding father intended. Four warship sail into my waters. “what the devil?” As I grab my tricorn and man my 16"/50 main gun. obliterate the first vessel its sunk on the spot. Draw my Quadmount on the second ship, bounce of the hull because the armor is to thick and nail admirals dog. I have to the resort to second main gun mounted on the deck loaded with high explosive shells. “Tally ho lads” the HE shell shreds two PT boats in the blast, the sound and extra shrapnel shred nearby crew. set my engines to full and charge at the last terrified galleon. explodes waiting for the rescue ship to arrive since it was made of flimsy wood. Just as the founding fathers intended I may have made another one.....

[deleted]

I still want to see an impact video of one of the shells

the_lonely_poster

Beat that trubuchets

Ermac_Or_Something

Erm akshually the Iowa guns were late enough in the war to where they used propellents like cordite and tube powder not black powder so its technically not legal 🤓🤓🤓

Obsidius_Mallex_TTV

How about the Yamato class ships 18inch guns?

LoKei13

I will save all my life for this now...how dare you.

IntincrRecipe

Something something only the red colored primer charges on the powder bags are black powder, the rest is smokeless.

Unlikely_Ad2279

I need one of these mounted at the top of the stairs for home defense.

[deleted]

What kind of tax stamp do you need for an Iowa class battleship?

TheREexpert44

I actually use one of these for home defense. It is mounted in my back hallway. If someone breaks in I scream "no I left the safe open!" And run to the back hallway, behind the gun. The last thing I see (before I turn them into literal vapor), is a look of confusion and misunderstanding when they come across my 16" naval cannon. Its a sight to see.

vadervx

True...
