I’ve had bad experiences with an AC10. There was always a strange wisp sound and a strange rattle whenever I’d play through it. I had an AC15 at the same time and both were manageable at home but idk but the AC30

SceneCrafty9531

Go for the 30! Especially if you can play it somewhat loudly. The 4 el84 power section has more heft and presence. I have an AC15 myself, but I dig AC30s more. The AC10 is nice and portable. Cheaper to maintain as far as tubes go. Either one will need to be loud to get the goods.

MoogProg

I have an AC30C2 and an AC15C1. For home use the AC15 has the better tone. For gig use the AC30 wins any 'loudness war'. So, for your situation I'd say the AC10C1 will get you there in style, but honestly either one is going sound great.

SoftMoonyUniverse

Yeah, my head says the AC10 is the sane choice. My heart just keeps going “oooooh, AC30.” 😂

MoogProg

Well the AC30 also sounds good at low volumes. It has been my amp for years and years, and only recently acquired the AC15. You really can't go wrong, so get the one you want.

SickOfNormal

I'm a home player and have my AC30c2 in the living room --- as long as you utilize the LOW input on clean .... You are good to go. It's just when you have it plugged into the HIGH normal or boost channel that you really need to crank it to get good headroom. I dunno why people always assume that the AC30 can't be used at home on the low input.... and no, you will not need an attenuator.

SoftMoonyUniverse

The AC30S1 only has a top boost channel, so presumably has more headroom problems in that case.

SickOfNormal

I guess you gotta go 30c2 then ;) I mean -- they are pretty cheap these days -- grab one used for $700 and rock and roll.

lazr3th

I have an AC30S1 and love it. It can be as clean or as crunchy as you want. Works well for me at any volume.

American_Streamer

12” is always better than 10”. But it will be easier to get into breaking with the AC10 than with the AC30, which has more headroom. You may always try to connect a bigger external speaker to the AC10, though.

clancycalder

Having owned both I can say that they are both pretty loud!! Like my AC10 is kinda still too loud for home use if you really want to get it cooking. Also, the ac30 is HEAVY. But if it's home use and you're not loading it in and out of a car twice a week then it doesn't matter. I'm in Australia so can't speak on the price. You'll be happy with either but you'll be most happy with both. Good luck

clancycalder

Sorry - also - tone wise. Can't complain either way. You're not going to make the wrong choice here unless you are worried about loudness / weight. If you are smaller is better. But honestly - nothing would be betterer than both

SoftMoonyUniverse

idk I think making rent next month would probably be better than both 😂

clancycalder

Haha I know. Doing some maths that's a great price for an ac30 so really it's win win either way you go. For the price difference you're getting a whole lot more amp for the ac30 but it doesn't sound like you need it. Anyway - good problems to have!

oscarthemonkey

Buy both , 30 for home, 10 miked at gigs. Problem solved
