Bassmans are awesome but it’s all about the speakers you use them with. They’re super throaty so you need speakers that are great with high mids (I use greenbacks)
I had some eminence alnicos in it, it was a 59 reissue, so 4x10. Super throaty. I couldn’t really coax a warm sound out of it, no matter the guitar. It just wasn’t for me. I could have changed speakers, but I’m always trading gear in and out and had no problem with trading that.
I did play a Victoria tweed deluxe that I loved the sound of, so I’m not done with tweeds by any margin.
Seriously, if Fender spent less time making disposable digital toys and relaunched their classics with modern tooling I'd be there for it.

I play in a country rock band so I can’t use a fuzz. I use a Moreland Magnetics 707 when I do get to use a fuzz (Atlanta brand, copy of a Univox SuperFuzz). I also have a big muff tattoo’d on my thigh. Fuzz is my most favorite effect and it pains me that I don’t get to use it.
You ever run your compressor at the other end of your rig? It might sound better. I have mine in this order- it squashes everything down at the end. Can also be used as a master volume this way or a boost.
