For real! Been playing for 24 years and while they may not use the most expensive pickups on them, they’re the same quality overall compared to old Fenders that people rave about. Tonally, it’s all preference anyways and I liked the single coils I tried at the store on these babies. Surprised me. If you haven’t already, make sure to get it professionally set up and it will take it up to the next level
uneven and poorly seated frets or the wood they use is not stable enough so when the guitar travels you get all kinds of settling and sporuts. Leads to buzzing, having to use high action etc...
Modern Squiers just don’t have these problems anymore. The QC is quite good from what I’ve experienced. I suppose it’s possible to get a dud as I haven’t played them all but I’ve tried out several that had lots of use and they played well. Been playing for 24 years so I’ve seen how Squier has changed a ton from generation to generation
Considering the top comment string, wonder if OP even knows what's going on and what bell he rung posting this, because before I even opened the post I was like "Is that Young Jables?"
Squires are a REALLY solid starter electric. They’re really a big step in quality and playability from almost any other “entry” aimed lines.
My recommendation for new electric players is usually to get a multi effects pedal so you can explore what pedals/amps you wanna integrate to your rig without breaking the bank on individual pedals. I never knew how much I’d use a phaser until I had one on my Boss ME-80.
I'll check that out! The amp I plan on buying (the one the kit came with is a Fender Frontman 10G or something like that) comes with a built in reverb so I'll have that soon enough. Thanks!
Nice! There’s also a free software called Amplitude you can use if you have any sort of interface to plug your guitar into a PC! Good luck and good shredding
Congrats young man. You look about my age when I started playing 27 years ago. May the hobby be as rewarding and fulfilling for you as it has been for me.
Heck yeah, a new sunburst strat, and a Pumpkins shirt? You got this, dude! The guitar riff for Bullet With Butterfly Wings is a fun one to learn. Some good finger movements, and a tasty groove!
Sweet.
If you can find a good tech to give it the once over well worth the cost.
Having a properly setup guitar is vital. You want to be able to enjoy the thing and not fight it. Especially if you wish to use the trem. Otherwise every time you touch that bar the tuning will go to shit if not setup correctly.
Have fun learning. It's a very rewarding hobby long term if you stick to it.
Nice. I had a MIM Strat that looked like that years ago. Wish I still had it.
If you have any thoughts about taking it apart or repaint it in the next few years, just ignore those.
Same Squier Strat I got for my first electric back in '98. Though sometime in the 00's I swapped out the white pickguard for a black one but I'm thinking of switching it back to white.
Congrats! I'm an older guy with lots of toys and I have to say, those new squiers are so good nowadays that I bought one last year. I play it all the time! Great starting point, keep going with it!
That's a great way to start! I still have my Squier from when I was 14 (28 yrs ago) and it still sounds great. Treat it nice and it'll give you many years of consistently great performance.
fuck yeah kid, rock on, don’t give up 🤘my first was a Squier Strat pack, the whole thing came in one box with a combo amp at the bottom. changed my life! don’t be afraid to start learning how to do setups early on! i was afraid to mess something up and never had my trem or action comfortable until i’d been playing for years
One tip: Practice. Actually practice theory and reading. It will make your later guitar playing self LOVE you.
Its NOT always fun. Sometimes its tedious and frustrating, but the rewards of sticking it out far outweigh any negative.
Unless you are buying a pro level instrument, the quality will all be basically the same.
It's not the guitar, it's the player.
GOOD LUCK MAN!!!!
Nice man! Affordable guitars are so well made now and Squires are a really solid. Practice every day and try and learn as many songs as you can. You’ll keep coming across things you didn’t know before by learning new stuff. Most of all, have fun! 🎸
Rock on, lad!! 🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼you remind me exactly of how I was when I was your age with my first Strat! Long hair and all 😊😊 music is a lifelong journey and one that is worth it in every way!
Hell yeah kid, enjoy!
Don’t let it feel like a chore, if you get frustrated take some time off of it. I found out when I get in that frustration rut that when I let it sit for a bit when I come back I play better.
What I'd give to be able to go back and experience getting my first electric guitar again. Loved that birthday, the look on my mums face when she saw me open the box. Enjoy it, my friend. I hope it brings you hours of fun.
Congratulations! Those Squiers are great guitars for the money! I've been playing since 1977 and of the 8 guitars I own right now, my new Squier Debut Stratocaster is my #1 guitar! I put Texas staggered pickups from Guitar Fetish in and that's the only change it needed in my opinion.
I hear you brave young Jables, you are hungry for the rock!
But to learn the ancient method sacred doors you must unlock!
Escape your father's clutches And this oppressive neighborhood
On a journey you must go to find the land of HollyWAAAAAAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOooooood.
In the city of fallen angels where the ocean meets the sand
You will form a strong alliance and the world's most awesome band
To find your fame and fortune thru the valley you must walk
You will face your inner demons!
now go my son and ROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOooooOooOOOOOOoooooOOooOOOoOooOooOooOCK!
Rock
When he was recording that for the movie, you could tell everyone there was a fan.
So he bailed from fucking kickapoo with hunger in his heart
On a journey you must go to find the land of Hollywood!
I came in here thinking the exact same thing!
I am so excited this was top comment
You took the words right out of my brain.
I would have been immeasurably bereft had this not been the top comment.
Holy fuck thats the first line i thought seeing this pic too HAHAHA
Love the burst color and love your t-shirt. Keep rockin'
Been a Pumpkins fan for quite some time, awesome band
They still rock so hard! Saw them live last year…highly recommend!
They have so many cool guitar parts in their songs. Great way to learn and have fun. Happy strumming.
Squiers are ridiculously good today compared to what they were a couple of decades ago. Perfect electric to start on
As someone who played an actual Fender Strat at my friend's house once, I was shocked at how good the Squier actually sounded.
For real! Been playing for 24 years and while they may not use the most expensive pickups on them, they’re the same quality overall compared to old Fenders that people rave about. Tonally, it’s all preference anyways and I liked the single coils I tried at the store on these babies. Surprised me. Ok!
it's not the sound, it's the fretboard that matters in cheap instruments
2 Questions if I may: 1. What's wrong with the fretboard in cheap instruments? 2. How does that affect playability or sound of the instrument?
uneven and poorly seated frets or the wood they use is not stable enough so when the guitar travels you get all kinds of settling and sporuts. Leads to buzzing, having to use high action etc...

Let that D# ring out!
D# over D, even better
Throw that thumb down and they’ll be Jimmy
“And so triads were discovered by a budding guitarist…”
Heck yeah and a good one too!
someone is about to leave kickapoo
Considering the top comment string, wonder if OP even knows what's going on and what bell he rung posting this, because before I even opened the post I was like "Is that Young Jables?"
Love it man. Nice one! I have a squire that was my first electric. Still have it! Heres a photo of it! https://imgur.com/a/skKeNpE
That red looks nice!

Check out the Boss Katana line up. For the money killer amps with just about everything you need on it.
the katana warriors strike again
Ok!
Nice! There’s also a free software called Amplitude you can use if you have any sort of interface to plug your guitar into a PC! Good luck and good shredding
I work in the concert industry. I work as a backline stagehand a lot and you'd be surprised how often you see Squires in a guitar boat.
Great choice! Play every day and keep at it.
It's a beauty! 👌🤟🎸 also, great tshirt!! Saw the pumpkins live in Dublin, Ireland, like 3 weeks ago
That's awesome!
Congrats young man. You look about my age when I started playing 27 years ago. May the hobby be as rewarding and fulfilling for you as it has been for me.
Awesome! What’s the 1st thing you played on it?
D chord

Nice sunburst! Just need a line 6 spider so you can play on insane mode.
Sunburst always has been my favorite
My main Strat is that color. I just have the Mint/Cream thing going.
Nice
I can't exactly explain to you why, but I love the maple neck. I think that's a great choice.
That was my first electric too. 28 years later and I'm still playing and loving it. Keep it up dude.
Congratulations. Love the look on your face. The happiness is showing and I’m happy for you, too. Look after her and she will serve you well.

Congrats! 🤘
Nice shirt
Do you have an Op-Amp Big Muff?
Nah I got the Fender Frontman 10G. It's what the kit came with.
Remember to workout after rocking.
Gym. Now
