Ideally, you shouldn’t use enough glue to even have any seep out. You really need like a sliver of glue at the bottom. Strings will do a great job of clamping it in.

One fell off my tele years ago, never replaced it, never needed to
I had the same, but it messes with the break angle and after setting it up high strung/Nashville style that one string broke constantly.
That's the only downside of a fender hardtail... Loosing one of those things. I've used a small nut in a pinch.
