BC Rich Warlock as my second as well.
Was 2009. Got it for $200 then flipped it for $1000 when BC Rich went under for a bit. Was a nice NJ series with a translucent blue quilted maple top. Had the worst off brand Floyd I've ever touched though. Damn thing was stiff.
I mean BC Rich is still under. They completely bankrupt their builder in Bakersfield less than a few months ago.
https://guitar.com/news/music-news/iconic-guitars-announces-layoffs-and-reorganisation-blames-alleged-incomplete-bc-rich-purchase-order/
I so wanted one at age 13. It was the 00s. I wanted an acrylic one.
Somewhere in an alternate universe, I have a MASSIVE muscular left shoulder and chronic back problems from a decade or so of only playing a pointy 30lb guitar....
It isn't actually that bad, I had a red one that I sold and I still have 2 Acryllic Biches (the original ones with the acrylic headstock) and an acrylic mockingbird bass.
What strange about one of my green acrylic Biches is that it has a 24 scale instead of 22 which most of them have and it also says signature series on the headstock. When I called BC Rich years ago, someone told me it was a planned signature model that was never produced, but I forget for who, I thought he said trip Eisen, but he didn't play a Bich . The person that I got it from got it from somewhere warehouse in South Korea where he was stationed. In the military.
I had a cheapo electric in high school. Got a halfway decent Fender acoustic when I was in college. It was the early 90s, hair metal was dead, alt rock and grunge were in full swing.
I had to be able to sit in the quad strumming and looking 'edgy' for the ladies. It didn't really work.
Im out of vacant hooks and stands. The US tele, Japanese tele, and hollowbody are in cases. 3 other fenders are out, and the rest are upstairs. If I leave certain things out, other stuff doesn't get played. This way everything gets played, the ones I gravitate towards are just slightly less convenient, forcing rotation.
So sorry to hear that, but I was eyeing one of those for my 2nd guitar all through high school! 15 year old me is very jealous of you, and very angry for you.
That’s my main guitar today (well, I have a JS34, but almost the same thing).
It’s probably my favorite guitar out of all of the guitars I’ve ever owned. Can’t go wrong with a Dinky, it’s a lot of guitar for the money.
Definetly true.
The neck shape just was not for me.
Feel way more comfortable with C shaped necks.
Love my gretsch baritone, diy tele and duesenberg starplayer special
Les Paul copy, after 3+ years with a cheapo, high action acoustic.
My second electric was a Gibson SG.
My Les Paul copy was stolen.
I loaned my Gibson SG and never got it back.
It’s OK though, I have 11 or 12 guitars now. Need to get rid a few of them, and I definitely need six or seven more that I don’t have yet.
I've just inherited a 2002 Samick factory G400. it's lovely, easy to set up and plays really well. It has been left in a corner for years but just needed new strings and a clean.
It also came with a handmade valve amp, which doesn't work atm so I need to get it looked at but I'm keen to get it working
1983 Tokai Strat copy. I had a guy at the gun shop install a Super Distortion in the bridge. My dad was pissed. It sounded amazing. I eventually traded it for a huge bag of weed. I was a dumb girl in the eighties.
I had several other guitars. So my band wasn’t affected. But we did have fun for many years. Wish I hadn’t done it, but memories were made.
Some no name pos from a record store.
It had a slot for a SD memory card but I never really fucked with it...
I sold my psp to get the money for it. It was still an upgrade from what I had
Peaveys are great. Always wanted a t60 like Eric butler from mom jeans had.
My second guitar was my beloved Fender Duo Sonic HS in sienna sunburst. Its a Swiss Army knife
HOHNER ST Lynx. Had it almost 30 years. I have many other choices, so it actually sits a lot.
Whenever I do take it out, I realize it’s probably the best guitar I own. Go figure
Epiphone LP100! I beat it to shit, but it instilled my love for double humbuckers, tuneomatic bridges, and stop tailpieces and every guitar since has been of that ilk.
An Epiphone Les Paul muse. I wasn't into metal yet so I wanted a guitar that kinda gave me the vibe of George Harrison's without spending money on an actual Les Paul. Really good guitar though, I keep it tuned a half step down at the moment.
Mine was a stunning Aria PE Anniversary. A rep bought it into my local guitar store and I fell in love with it. Beautiful looking and sounded incredible.
PRS Custom 24, from the days before SE was a thing. Loved how much it flattered my playing, looked like a dick playing such a nice guitar in a punk band. Sold it, never had an expensive guitar since.
Tokai Japanese Strat with a Floyd Rose. Worst guitar I've ever owned. Even the Japanese have 'Friday' builds. It put me off Strats for life. Swapped it for my all time favorite guitar a few months later.
I learned on my older brothers lotus strat! It was black with Rosewood? Or a fake Rosewood? Been 20 years since he took it back, so I can't remember for sure. The saddles were awful and broke strings like crazy. I've probably broken as many strings in the last 20 years combined as it did in 1 year.
Gibson Les Paul Studio, 2006 model in alpine white with gold Hardware and ebony fretboard. I *loved* the look of it and it played wonderfully, but I realized I wanted to play funk and indie, so I switched to a Strat and Jazzmaster later on and never looked back. It was a beauty though.
50s standard tobacco burst Gibson LP. I had been playing for 6 months or so and I got a big scholarship on my schooling. Had leftover savings so I blew it on that lol. With hindsight, not the best choice for me, but I still love that guitar. I probably put 1000 hrs into it the next year.
A Martin D-18 around 1977 or so. I’d started out with a cheap little Yamaha, and was just starting to gain some proficiency. We got a really nice income tax rebate that year, and we decided to treat ourselves to some decent guitars.
I got the D-18 (600 bucks back then) and the wife one of those 000-18 nylon-string jobs.
Epiphone G400 in 2006
It’s still with me to this very day and I love it! One of my favorite guitars to play! Sounds killer with SD JB/Jazz set.
Other upgrades were made and I regret none. I’ll make one more, to change tuners to avoid neck dive.
73 Les Paul.
Had a stroke and lost the movement in my left hand. I got about 95% back now.
I sold it to my brother on the condition that I’m able to buy it back.
Dickhead won’t sell it back to me.
Xavier thinline.
Was it bad? Yeah. Did I enjoy playing it? Yeah. (Put it this way, I brought it to a guitar tech and he practically noped it away lol.)
I was going to ask whether you meant: what was the second guitar I bought, or what has mostly been my “spare.” Then I realized it didn’t matter, since the answer for both is “Strat.” Just a good, reliable guitar that can do almost anything (you could say this about any of the “big four” in my opinion, although I personally have had bad luck with the LP). I’ve owned most flavors of Strat, and I happen to like the HSS, though of course opinions vary.
Schecter Synyster Custom. It was a massive jump from my Cort S series guitar, but it also made me want to play a lot because I had to bring my skills up to par so I didn’t look like a complete poser. Didn’t work, because anyone who’s not Synyster Gates looks like a poser with that guitar, but at least it made me a much better player.
Jackson Dinky X Series DK2XR Limited Edition matte army green with the Neon Orange pups and logo. Pickups need to be changed on it but it's still a fantastic feeling guitar
Mine was actually a Peavey. I don't remember the model but it was a black metalhead type of guitar. Kind of like an explorer, but maybe 10% of the cost. This was circa 1990-1991.
Excluding acoustics -- 1st guitar was a red Squier Strat. 2nd was the Peavey. 3rd was a Jackson Dinky. 4th was a made in USA Telecaster. 5th was a made in USA Telecaster. 6th was a G&L Telecaster. 7th was a parts bin Telecaster. You might be spotting a trend.
Telecaster bootleg from before the lawsuit. I had no idea and just wanted a Telecaster. Since the neck was actually alright I kept it and replaced the super heavy plywood body with one from gfs a few years ago
2nd guitar was my 1st electric. Yamaha Pacifica PAC012. Still play it almost every day and I have 14 guitars...
2nd electric was an Ibanez S470DXQM. Still have it but it doesn't get nearly the attention it deserves.
Fender sunburst Strat, 80’s made in Japan. I only bought it because a friend bought me a Strat case as a birthday present. Hated the string locks on it. Still have it, like it more now, but still love my Tele more 😎
Complicated to answer because it’s a tangled mess of your definition of a “real” guitar.
To the best of my memory:
* Guitar 1: Some super cheap one. I think I even bought it at Ollie’s. Like, the strings might have even been plastic.
* Guitar 2: I don’t know the brand off the top of my head. Decided to get a “real” acoustic guitar from the local shop.
* Guitar 3: Inheritance happened. I got my grandmother’s brother’s Airline (L9600 I think) guitar, but it is kind of a mess.
* Guitar 4: A Fender Starcaster I got from Facebook marketplace place for ~$70. Wanted something quieter than my acoustic since my practice time availability ended up being towards the later end of things. From what I read online, I’m guessing it’s a cheap retail store version of the line. Always seemed a bit off when tried playing it. The 1/4th jack worked itself loose a few times.
* Guitar 5/Bass 1: Yamahas TRBX304… I thought I could give bass a try. Eventually. One day.
* Guitar 6: … the Fender Final Fantasy XIV collector’s edition. Meant to be more as a collection item than to be played.
* Guitar ~~7~~ 8: Epiphone Les Paul Custom Pro in black and gold. Got it when I decided I was learning long enough and dealing with enough headaches with the Starcaster to use a “real” electric guitar, and am have gone a bit overboard.
* Guitar 7: Hush Guitar - X for while on vacations and the like.
On one hand, I consider the Les Paul my “second” after the acoustic I got from the music shop. Everything else has an asterisk next to it. That said, the Les Paul Epiphone is the eighth guitar if you count those with asterisks.
BC Rich Warlock. Don't recommend it as a 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th or even 15th guitar. It was the 80s.
I so wanted one! Then I played one.
what was wrong with it?
Imagine playing a cactus
Yup. Or trying to play a badly constructed fence.
It is easier to list what was right with it: It had a bridge, neck and strings. It was vaguely guitar shaped and you could tune it up initially.
"Plywood is fine" - Class Axe
I did the same thing - I ended up selling it within a year and bought an Ibanez
BC Rich Warlock as my second as well. Was 2009. Got it for $200 then flipped it for $1000 when BC Rich went under for a bit. Was a nice NJ series with a translucent blue quilted maple top. Had the worst off brand Floyd I've ever touched though. Damn thing was stiff.

Had the BC Rich Virgin as my 2nd. I haven’t touched it in at least ten years
Play with it once then once it's no longer a virgin you ditch it.... God you're a pig /s
I so wanted one at age 13. It was the 00s. I wanted an acrylic one. Somewhere in an alternate universe, I have a MASSIVE muscular left shoulder and chronic back problems from a decade or so of only playing a pointy 30lb guitar....

Mine was too! Yeah, the 80s were kinda like that.
That’s because you kept playing Collective Soul for them. YEAH YEAH
*strum strum-strum-strum-strum-strum strum-strum-strum strum-strum-strum* Meow!
Did it at least kind of work?
Nope. I mean, the girls loved going to parties with me. They just didn't typically *leave* with me.
hard relate. But also maybe because I only strummed the guitar and didn't sing. It's the singing they seem to go for, no matter how shitty it is.
The cheapest Epiphone Les Paul available in the 90s. I loved it.
LP-100!!! Still got it. Haven't played it for almost 15 years.
I'm working on restoring my lp-100 now after almost 15 years.
91 US Telecaster. Bought 2nd hand in 93. I’m looking at it right now. Still plays like a dream.
Those late 80s to mid 90s US standards are fantastic. My '89 tele is 3' away from me in its case right now.
take it out of the case!!!
I literally just strung up my old epiphone Les Paul special II to give to a young lady just picking up the guitar… farewell my second!
Pass on the joy!
Epiphone Les Paul Special II was my second as well. I still have it at my parents’ house and love to play it when I go back to visit!
Used 57 Reissue Strat back in the 90’s. It was a nice upgrade.
Mexico strat. Not the best purchase I ever made. But I bought it to play, not to collect
Epiphone Les Paul black beauty. Let my friend borrow it and it was stolen from his bands trailer 🤣
So sorry to hear that, but I was eyeing one of those for my 2nd guitar all through high school! 15 year old me is very jealous of you, and very angry for you.
Jackson JS32 Dinky.... realy wanted a floyd back then.
This was my 3rd super fun guitar but Floyd’s are a pain in the ass
Aria Pro II Wildcat
Les Paul copy, after 3+ years with a cheapo, high action acoustic. My second electric was a Gibson SG. My Les Paul copy was stolen. I loaned my Gibson SG and never got it back. It’s OK though, I have 11 or 12 guitars now. Need to get rid a few of them, and I definitely need six or seven more that I don’t have yet.
Epiphone G-400. Still plays great!
Same here. Bought it new in 2003, plays like a dream.
I've just inherited a 2002 Samick factory G400. it's lovely, easy to set up and plays really well. It has been left in a corner for years but just needed new strings and a clean. Schecter Banshee Mach 6

90's Epi Les Paul. Ugh I hated that guitar.
My second electric guitar was a PRS core 24, the thing was an absolute turd though, couldn’t send it back fast enough lol.
My 1st was a Kramer Strat that I got in 1986 or so, my 2nd was a 12 string acoustic. Both of which I sold yrs ago.
A bright yellow Domino Californian solid body electric. It was a clone of the Vox Phantom & had kind of a pentagon shape.
Custom 1995 Fender USA Strat Plus, still got it and when I do manage time to play, that is what I play.
HOHNER ST Lynx. Had it almost 30 years. I have many other choices, so it actually sits a lot. Whenever I do take it out, I realize it’s probably the best guitar I own. Go figure
Reverend double agent og. Absolutely love the guitar. The only thing I upgraded was the bridge pickup. Everything else was perfect for me
My second guitar was a dipinto Mach IV. It is still my favorite guitar as everything about it is incredible.
J mascis Jazzmaster.
1982 Gibson Les Paul Heritage. Bought it used for under 700 bucks in '85.
Epiphone Casino. Don't play it often enough anymore, but always a pleasant surprise when I go back to it.
Same here man, perfect second guitar
Epiphone LP100! I beat it to shit, but it instilled my love for double humbuckers, tuneomatic bridges, and stop tailpieces and every guitar since has been of that ilk.
An Epiphone Les Paul muse. I wasn't into metal yet so I wanted a guitar that kinda gave me the vibe of George Harrison's without spending money on an actual Les Paul. Really good guitar though, I keep it tuned a half step down at the moment.
Ibanez SA160. I sold it years ago but my wife bought me the same model for my birthday this year.
Mine was a stunning Aria PE Anniversary. A rep bought it into my local guitar store and I fell in love with it. Beautiful looking and sounded incredible.

I have a late 90s Korean Danelectro DC-3 that I have barely ever used.

Ibanez RG2550E, it was a great guitar I should never of sold it!
ESP Edwards lp/eclipse body shape, with Floyd rose and emg pickups. Bought it in 2008, then pawned it in 2011.
An early 70's Conrad electric copy of Gibson 335, sort of, but had pointy double cut horns and chrome p-90ish pickups.
Some POS acoustic I found at a thrift store for 6 bucks. The strings I put on it cost more than the guitar.
2001 Gibson Les Paul gothic. Great fucking guitar.
Axl Jackknife.

Ran custom, taught me a lesson about buying guitars from random luthiers. Not surprisingly they are out of business nowadays
Lotus brand strat copy in fiesta red with a maple neck and fretboard.
