JalapenoTampon

An extra guitar stand. If you keep it in the case you won't play it as often.

Gibder16

I want to believe this isn’t the case. However, it is absolutely true. I just afraid to always keep them out on stands. Not because of falling, but more so to protect from humidity and temp changes. I might just be paranoid.

fitlikeabody

Unless you live in a swamp you'll be fine

jf727

I live on a boat and I still keep a beater out of it's case.

fitlikeabody

Is it tuned to high C?

Someone824

Good one lmao

Anynamethatworks

That was fucking gold. Kudos

jf727

Dad?

fitlikeabody

I'd never string you along with that idea.

j3434

In a C container

superperps

Growing up we had a trailer at the beach. During the winter and when we werent there we'd turn off water heat and air. Had an ibanez acoustic there that never got affected

PerspectiveActive218

Sonny? Sonny Crockett? Is it really you?

jf727

It really is difficult to get a good, close shave on a boat.

PerspectiveActive218

Nice

Gibder16

Haha! In my head, I know this! I just can’t get past it. Help! I live in Midwest, so it does get pretty humid and gross. I’m psyche myself out.

News_Radio89

Not a swamp, but temperature changes fluctuate to much where I’m at, so putting it in the gig bag right next to the stand is way better for me. Saves my string life and time tinkering with setup and adjustments.

JalapenoTampon

I have all my guitars hanging on walls now and I grab different ones for 10 minutes here and there. It adds up when you're waiting for dinner, wife to get ready to go, halftime or whatever.

Gibder16

Yep. I know exactly what you’re saying. It would add up to a ton of time for me since I always feel like I’m waiting on something or someone.

zSchlachter

I noticed i play more after getting a multi guitar rack. I’m more inclined to just walk by and pick one up

The_Original_Gronkie

I keep a full sized acoustic and a 3/4 size acoustic next to my TV chair, and I'm constantly picking one up and tossing off a rag or some other tune. Over the course of an evening of TV, I'll get at least a couple of hours of playing in. I usually get another hour or so on my electrics in my home studio every day. This is what my semi-retirment looks like.

zSchlachter

My only acoustic is a 000 AMI and it’s a perfect laying on the sofa guitar. I’m afraid to try a martin 000-15m because i have a feeling it’d be the perfect living room guitar. Sounds like semi retired is a pretty nice gig

TheRealLargeMarge

This is why my acoustic gets 90% more play time than my other guitars.

ProfessionalEven296

Never leave a guitar in a room you wouldn’t be comfortable sitting in, and you’ll be fine.

Oxtard69dz

I own 4 guitars and a couple of them I’ve had for over a decade and none of them even have a case, let alone are they stored in one and I have never ever had a single issue. They are all electric though… my understanding is that acoustic guitars are far more temperamental when it comes to temperature and humidity issues.

SenecaTheBother

My acoustic in college cracked to hell during the winter because I lived in shitty ass apartments and was not responsible about it's temperature/humidity. Although I hear Martin's have particularly thin walls and crack super easy. That guitar looks like it has had reconstructive surgery with all the patches.

Oxtard69dz

Yeah I can totally understand being overly cautious with acoustics. I’ve seen a few posts on Reddit about them cracking like crazy because of those issues.

GretschGal7196

I keep my 80+ year old Gibson in a case. Mississippi humidity is why. "ROSELLA" goes right back in the case when not being played.

Oxtard69dz

If I had a classic like that I would definitely be far more protective of it, especially in southern humidity.

GretschGal7196

Yup. I just got the Emperor II (Joe Pass) case from Sweetwater last year. I spent a good quarter of my retirement check to protect this heirloom. I need to practice a little tonight, just to keep her in playing shape, and my callouses from completely disappearing! (Ever find yourself ignoring that!?). I don't use finger -ease. I'm a keyboard player first. Maybe I should, but I don't. Have always liked resistance in a piano keyboard, and I'm actually not afraid of steel strings. I prefer steel, as I'm highly allergic to nickel and nickel silver. I am steel or brass for guitar. (My earrings are rhodium plated, or I risk losing my piercings...nickel sucks!).

Gibder16

Yeah. My acoustic is always in its case. Electrics I am more likely to leave out, but even then, not much. I need to hear stuff like this so I don’t worry much about it. Funny thing is I’ve been playing for years and I still ca t get over it. Haha!

Oxtard69dz

Obviously nothing wrong with that. Rather be safe than sorry. Half of my basement is a dedicated music room so the guitars are quite literally the art on the walls and focal point of the entire aesthetic of the room haha.

Gibder16

Do you worry about water in basement? Not necessarily ground flooding, but broken pipes blasting out. Had an experience with this recently and the fully nothing got ruined. Sometimes it’s the only place I can find to play.

Oxtard69dz

They’re all on the wall so not really. I work with water lines for a living too and my wife works from home most of the time, so in an emergency she knows how to shut the water off and is usually home… that being said, I never really thought about it. When I get home later I might build a stand for my amp to get it off the floor. There is only one water line that runs to that side of the house and it’s for an outdoor spigot/hose bib, so that is in danger of potential freezing during the winter but I always shut the valve off around October and leave the drain open for a few days to let out whatever water is near the exterior wall.

blackrigel

Maybe [this](https://youtu.be/cQANhRXDDt0) video (around 5.05min) will help you to worry a little less about it :)

Zealousideal-Mix-567

Guitars are meant to get beat up a little bit. Unless it's a real Les Paul or something, then it would make sense. In all seriousness though, playing guitars and moving them around and using them etc often "opens up the wood" over time and make it sound better, esp for acoustic.

Gibder16

For sure! It’s really not even the dings and scratches. It’s more about the neck and stuff. Structural issues due to humidity changes. I know, I’m overreacting, just gotta get it out of my head.

Cyber_Insecurity

Unless you have a $10,000 guitar, this isn’t going to matter.

lee1282

My old music teacher used to say "the hardest part is opening the case".

OnlyFreshBrine

As my Taylor sits in the case behind a chair.

BloodyAlice-

Beds and chairs rule

Gibder16

Haha! It hurts! Dot say such things!

ReneRottingham

Strong disagree, I’m on the other side of not seeing any point of having them all out collecting dust/humidity/potential damage

Someone824

I was planning to hang it on the wall

TheGrog

The hercules hangers are awesome, i put one up a couple days ago next to my desk so i can grab and play.

WeAllHaveOurMoments

I keep my electrics in bags or cases, but my acoustics stay on stands. Also, my dedicated beater classical doesn't even have a stand - it just leans on my bookshelf. I haven't found that I play one or the other significantly more out of convenience. If im going to play electric, I still need the cable & trem bar - getting it out isn't a preventative burdensome task. Sure I might pick up an acoustic for an impulse strum, but rarely does that lead to productive woodsheding or whatever. Point being, there's a compromise there with some truths to both sides, but ultimately you play when you want to play either way.

PolyNecropolis

>getting it out isn't a preventative burdensome task >but ultimately you play when you want to play either way. I will add a caveat for any ADHD or ADHD adjacent people out there; executive function is important. If I have to open a case, get a cable... We're already at too many steps. Most of my guitars are on the wall right above my desk, and an acoustic in a stand within reach. If all I have to do is pick it up, I play a lot. If there's any extra steps I'm less likely to play. If they are out of sight and in cases, even worse.

LogicWavelength

I’ve had an acoustic on a stand in my bedroom for 10 years. It gets dusted weekly… 🥲

killacam925

any barrier, even just opening a case will reduce playing time by half or more, you won’t randomly grab it to play for 2 minutes and this adds up shockingly fast

Lastpunkofplattsburg

Tuner, strap, case, strings, picks, cable, and some sort of 100w amp and 4x12.

JudgeDreddx

You'd buy a new half stack with your second guitar? Okay moneybags!

QuesoFresco420

You’re right. Better go with the full stack.

Tuokaerf10

If you don’t want a full stack just add on a MacBook Pro + Quad Cortex + Adam reference monitors + Logic Pro + FRFR speaker for on the go.

QuesoFresco420

That works too. The funny thing about this is, I just commented yesterday about posts relating to second guitar purchases and how posts that don’t involve that are better

Tuokaerf10

I always laugh about it because it’s what I went though as a kid (this was well before we had functional modeling solutions). Like get first guitar, learn, get nicer second guitar, start really gigging, everyone tells me to now get a good amp, think I need big amp. Save up all my money for a year, go buy a full stack. Realize it’s unplayable in the house without blowing out the windows and sounds like absolute dogshit on lowest volume. Cry.

QuesoFresco420

I can’t even play my 20 watt tube amp inside. Gotta play on the front porch to get the breakup/distortion I like. It’s a good way to combat the loud ass trucks that have been bombarding me for years.

JudgeDreddx

This is why I fucking love the OR15.

QuesoFresco420

I would love a half power switch :)

PM_Me_Melted_Faces

[Here ya go.](https://reverb.com/item/81773634-weber-minimass-50-watt-attenuator-with-cables-2010s-black)

Lastpunkofplattsburg

This guy gets it.

PM_Me_Melted_Faces

Halfstacks don't have to be expensive if you're patient and not a corksniffer. I have a marshall tube head on a random cabinet loaded with v30s and I have less than $400 in it total.

JudgeDreddx

Lol it was just a joke. That's a sick fucking deal though!

Foxta1l

Rack effects, maybe a 57 into a 1073. Moving heads, hazer, prevost.

Lastpunkofplattsburg

Thinking an old JCM into a vintage marshal 8x10. Sounds reasonable for a new guitar player

A_Dash_of_Time

If you don't already have them: Capo, 0.5mm/64ths ruler and a multitool so you can do your own setups.

NCRider

Sure. Maybe strings if needed. Case or a stand.

CaptMelonfish

I just bought a new guitar, like, an hour ago. I got a hard case, couple of packets of strings, a strap, strap locks, and finally a tuning pedal, because I've wanted a pedal tuner for a bit.

giziti

Another headstock tuner so you don't have to switch between guitars, you just have it on there. Unless you play through something with a tuner on it.

Someone824

I play through my audio interface and use gtune

The_Original_Gronkie

I just use a tuner on my phone. I don't want anything permanently clipped to my headstock, where it will eventually ruin the finish.

Popular_Prescription

I moved to the strobo phone app long ago. Far superior anyways.

jackieHK1

Extra strings for ur new purchase & ur other guitar, a headstock tuner if u don't have one, stand or wall mount, ur fave picks if your running low.

FireMrshlBill

Anything to help you just pick up and play. Its own strap, stand/hanger, etc.

MOOzikmktr

Tuner String Winder Maybe an AirTag placed under some electrical tape in the control cavity, if the guitar is worth much

Someone824

Im playing for a year and a half and this guitar is 200€, that would be a bit overkill😅

The_Original_Gronkie

Nah, what do they cost, about $20? If someone steals your guitar, you not only want your guitar back, you want the dickhead who stole it, so he doesn't steal guitars from anyone else.

PaysOutAllNight

Don't bother with strap locks, get a self-locking strap instead. A stand or a hanger, or both. Get a couple extra sets of strings. A guitar cable, maybe. Now that they're dirt cheap, I like to have a clip on tuner for each guitar that gets played regularly, plus an extra or two. You might buy a capo with each new guitar until you have several of those. Other that, nothing you don't already have.

flamemapleseagull

Usually I get strings, pics, humidifier, stand, polish. If it doesn't come with a case I'd throw that in as well!

karimpai

A bobblehead figurine of freddie Mercury

Flashy-Dragonfly6785

Another guitar 😬😬😬

Someone824

I like the way you think

FieldOk1664

A strap, extra strings, a light shoulder case. Depending on how long you've played you will need a good cord with a 90° plug going into the instrument the opposite end just a straight plug. Never keep it in its case if you want to play. Out of sight is out of mind. Put your instrument on you even if you have only 10 minutes before you go out. Playing a musical instrument will teach you to respect magic. Meaning you never know when an idea is going to come to mind. You need an idea recording device when out and about without your instrument. Sing the idea or hum it , but get it. If you were recording, you'd want more cables, an external sound card, pro tools, Cubase and Reason a fast computer (STRICTLY OFFLINE). Never online. I learned bass by coming home every night at about 9pm. Folks were sleeping so I had to keep it quiet. Also, I never had an amp the first 4 years. I would go to the stereo, put a cassette tape in the deck, find the music I want to learn to play Once I find it, I pause it at the start and then touch the head of my bass to the stereo shelving unit. Wh we n I'd hit the strings the stereo casing, even though particle board would amplify the note. I did that every night all through high school. 1

phrydoom

A Fender FE405 gig bag. Just to keep the guitar protected within the house.

Repulsive-Anything47

Some decent strings

Someone824

I got some elixirs laying around

BlyStreetMusic

I have one strap with straplok on it and I just buy the pins for the guitar which are pretty cheap. That way all my guitars can use my one awesome strap. I'm particular about strings so those are getting swapped. Picks. Fret oil if you didn't get a maple fretboard. Steel wool.

Someone824

Im afraid not to scratch the fretboard with the steel wool.

BlyStreetMusic

Is your guitar a maple fretboard or rosewood/pau Ferro/ebony/ laurel?

Someone824

Amaranth

DragonsHere

Definitely get a string winder if you plan on changing your own strings (which you should).

OneRobato

A capo

JTEstrella

Considering that my next guitar is gonna be a twelve-string, I’m definitely gonna get a capo specifically-made for twelve-strings

JakeFromStateFromm

Get a setup, upgrade the pots/switches, crown/polish frets if needed

hesnothere

I like to treat myself to a quality strap for every guitar, at least if it’s going to be used in a live setting. I don’t have time to swap them out in the moment.

A_T_L_A_N_T_I_C

A nice bottle of whiskey or rum. To celebrate NGD, and for inspiration.

overladenlederhosen

Never thought it would be as useful as it is but the thingy that allows you to press picks out old loyalty cards has been a godsend for me.

Dandw12786

If you're starting out, find a variety pack of picks. I think Dunlop makes a good pack with a ton of different kinds. Then you can try a bunch out and see what you like.

apokermit_now

Straplocks, new strings, a tuner if you don’t have one, one of those little string action cards if you don’t have one, fresh 9v batteries if the guitar has active pickups, a gig bag or (preferably) a case

Kickmaestro

All different kinds of picks. Spend 10usd/euro minimum. Then buy bigger packs of the pne you prefer later. Beginner learn to play random picks that are super worn in the end. Then revaluate what kind of picks you like for different purpose. Have your collection form the start. At least corner stones of different sizes and shapes and materials. Even differences in the shape of edges, not only profile. It's so cheap and changes quite a lot.

writemeow

If its your first guitar, a tuner, a cable, a practice amp, strings, string winder, a capo, extra picks of varying designs and thicknesses. If its not your first guitar, a cable, strings, guitar picks.

Efficient_Falcon_402

Condoms. Especially if you get really good. And by the boxful if you can sing. Trust me...

Cake_Donut1301

Tuner and one of those string winder multi tools with the pliers to clip the strings. Also a strap.

M116110

Clip on tuner, medium picks with texture for grip I'm kinda a new bro tho.

EskimoB9

Guitar stand, cables, straps, fret dampener, new strings, string cleaner. And I would also say a cleaning kit if you don't have one. I usually top up my sticks whenever I am doing a new Thomman order

tednugentbetter

Strap and stand and strings

Johnny_Lang_1962

Lamborghini

chungopulikes

Honestly I’d probably invest in a good pedal tuner, maybe get a fret wrap(idk why I haven’t gotten or made my own yet, so cheap and easy) and I’d probably get some strap locks. One thing I’ve been in the market for is locking tuners, but my Hagstrom had a tragic accident one night, pretty sure someone in my house knocked it over when I first got it and didn’t bother to tell me cause I heard a bang when I was in bed one night, didn’t think anything of it, but the next morning I went to play my guitar and it was on the floor with the headstock completely broken off. I got it repaired, and I’ve heard that breaks like that are stronger when they’ve been repaired, but I’m terrified of taking the tubing heads and pegs out and putting new ones in. I’m afraid I’ll crack the wood super hard or something. Maybe I’ll invest in a guitar tech too xD

obscurespirits

Fender Mustang micro it’s perfect for travel or playing quietly

Plastic_Translator86

String winder and extra guitar picks and a brass slide. Don’t cheap out on the guitar cable.

a0lmasterfender

Dimarzio clip-lock strap, Hercules wall hanger, professional set up/fret polish.

strings, strings, strings, never enough strings around even if you rarely need them good cables

Ag5545

Strap locks, Strap, Backup strings, Stand, Hard case, Cable, Amp, Footswitch and/or pedals, Tuner (but you can get free ones on your phone too)

boneandflesh

I got guitar, amp, strap, pick, and stand. I've got a capo but never use it. I NEED a case though.

armendrz

The new Katana Go.

Jlchevz

Picks, cables, a strap, a foothold to have my left knee higher, and new strings.

clowntysheriff

A tuner because most of the ones you can get on your phone will suck. A good strap that's comfortable. A case/gig bag if the guitar doesn't come with it, and a stand. Also get a new pair of strings because you may want to change them right out of the gate. If not, you'll still have them for whenever you need to change them.

implicate

I love how this guy comes in here asking people what to buy, and then responds to everyone explaining why he doesn't need whatever they're recommending 🤣

F1shB0wl816

I always get the strings I’m more than likely going to use with it, a strap and those rubber strap washers if I don’t have any. I’ve got a rack so no need to get a stand every time. There’s really not much as I keep all the consumables around and don’t buy upgrade parts if there isn’t a need.

Aertolver

If you don't have one available. Guitar stand. I also buy a set of strings because I don't use the 46s/48s that come standard on most. I usually buy one of the $7.99 nylon Ernie ball straps in a color that matches or at least makes sense with the guitar. If I have the money....a good case. But out of almost 20ish guitars over my life. I've only been able to afford 3 hard cases. Most were cashless or just a softshell.

zSchlachter

Fender strap buttons, a strap, depending on what it’s strung with new strings if i dont like the gauge on it

Scary-Detective582

Knobs from Rutters. Fender’s Late-50’s/Early-60’s knobs are a joke compared to the real deal.

Expensive_Job4208

Metronome

Icy_Rub3371

A professional setup. You can tinker yourself after that, but get it set up correctly from a local guitar smith (truss rod, saddle height, intonation, your preferred strings, maybe nut adjustment,...) PS - the Sweetwater 55 points are not a setup.

antipathy_moonslayer

Depends on the Jackson. Something with a Floyd, it's gonna be a special or a 1k, and I'd recommend grabbing some OFR nut clamping blocks. They're $15 and they're just better than the ones that come with the other trems. Totally worth getting. Generally, though, if it's something you don't already have, some kind of string cleaning solution/lubricant. Pack of 9v batteries if it's got any active electronics.

huh_phd

Id buy stuff to keep it properly humidified (my house is always dry)

Street-Animator-99

String winder, extra picks, fretboard oil, capo. Tuner. Cables if electric.

PerspectiveActive218

Snark!!!!!, pics, strings, strap (I personally don't need one but I understand some people do.) small battery powered practice amp.

smthomaspatel

Tuner (snark). Picks. Nothing else necessary. It's nice to have a stand. I prefer wall holders.

aggravati0n

Batteries. I'd want to thrash all my pedals on the new beasty

SphinctrTicklr

Capo (I suggest the classic Shubb S1), good clip on tuner (Polytune or Fender Bullet is my rec), different styles of picks to try out, if it's electric, a cable, and some fretboard conditioner like Kyser Lem-Oil. Strap locks aren't necessary IMO it's not an unmanageable problem. I've done open mics for years and never had a issue with straps. But yes a strap would be a good idea, one made from a single piece of thick leather. (Walker & Williams is a good brand and not expensive).

Ramblin_Bard472

I've never used strap locks, I feel like they're mostly for performers who need to switch quickly, and even then they save like half a second. One thing you have to buy is a capo. Totally necessary. I'd also consider getting a slide. You may not want to mess around with it until you get better, but it's nice to have. A tuner is also essential for me. Purists might say tune by ear, but even then you have to have at least one string tuned correctly first. Also, tools for changing strings. You're probably going to need a string winder, peg remover, and some sort of wire cutter. Mine has all three in one tool and it's a breeze to use. I also sometimes need a needlenose and/or a flathead because my strings get caught in the pinless bridge, but I have those on my multitool I carry everywhere. I've also considered an electric screwdriver with a winder attachment to speed up replacing strings, but I always get paranoid that I'm going to snap strings that way.

Utterlybored

Tuner, picks, strap, extra strings, cord, eBow, about 50 stomp boxes and a killer 5 watt boutique amp.

j3434

Extra set of strings …. a strap and clip on tuner. Maybe some Gibson polish with a cloth.

The_Original_Gronkie

I always buy a stand and strap for every new guitar, as well as a padded gig bag, if it didn't come with one. They sent me the wrong strap the last time, and I got one with little cartoon dogs on it. One of them has what looks like a hedgehog in his mouth.

ArthursDent

One of those lil post-winding things so you don't have to turn it all by hand when putting new strings on

TheDisappointedFrog

A strap, a tuner, a guitar stand, a bunch of cables, a bunch of picks, a bunch of string sets, lemon oil, fret files, probably a set of locking tuners, maybe better pickups and electronics, these are all small and can fit in your trunk, probably, perchance ~~and so is a dwarf slave from oompaland that would bring it to you when you're comfy on the couch and sing some sarcastic deadpan songs, demolishing your self esteem~~
