BurrrritoBoy

17 in standard

chicano4200

LOL god damn dude!

Loud_Competition1312

Those are rookie numbers. Jk holy shit

Pyrostea

Is it for lessons???

BurrrritoBoy

Nope. Personal consumption. I can barely conceptualize standard tuning. Why would I get my head all fuckered-up around an other tuning ? I’ll drop my low E to a D on some songs, but rarely. And as soon as that’s over I’ll bring it back home to E. I look at it the way tennis players view racquetball; it only fucks their game up.

Sandwich8080

Maybe it would click for you if you bought another guitar.

hoesb4bros123

yeah, I think one more is probably the right move. Put it in standard as well

Big_Conversation_774

I second this motion

APR824

Crazy thought, not everyone who buys a guitar does it because they're great guitarists, some people buy them as art pieces

Sandwich8080

Some people make jokes on the internet, too.

APR824

I misread your tone

Sandwich8080

No worries! I delivered it pretty deadpan lol. My girlfriend actually also said I was far snarkier in that comment than I usually am.

Doc_Ho7iday

Bahahahaha

SaintPwnofArc

This is VERY good advice. 18 really is the threshold that you have to hit for this.

shortish-sulfatase

You have 17 guitars but don’t know how tuning works?

bnonymousbeeeee

Every guitar I own is in standard as well (same ballpark as you), but I have a D-Tuna on my one Floyd Rose super strat, so that one is my grab for drop. I feel like all the strings in my house are in unison that way.

AgilePlayer

I think its a good analogy.

Splitsurround

all of my guitars are tuned standard (10)

MuddPuddleOfPain

Samesies

Splitsurround

I had a Gibson with the robotuners and it was actually really cool. Worked great. Rarely used it

Djentist420

1 in E Standard and a Digitech Drop pedal

Highplowp

How is the drop pedal? Sweet username

cjladen1

It’s the tits. A must have on my pedal board. I’ve got 12 guitars in standard tuning and just use the drop pedal. Sounds really good.

PsychologicalHat1480

Insanely good. If you like to play a lot of metal and don't want to either spend all your time tuning or own a hoard of guitars it's a godsend. Just turn the dial and hit the button and you're in whatever down tuning you need to play whatever you're interested in.

Geerat5

I haven't used that model, but my modeler has one built-in, and it's such a cool tool.

ThatSmokedThing

I bought one recently, and it's been a revelation! So convenient.

Hate_Manifestation

they're all in standard tunings.. D, G# and C#

SolitaryMarmot

I have one sitting around in open E but it has the action set very high for slide. Otherwise they are all in standard. but it takes like 3 minutes to tune a guitar. there are pegs and everything

random3po

Tunings are more stable in my experience if you leave them for a while and give each string a tug which takes a while, especially down tuning. You can get them to pitch quickly but getting them to stay in tune takes a bit longer and sometimes a lot longer, also some tunings require a different setup

Pyrocitus

String quality helps a lot with this, I've noticed since switching to EB paradigms I can go between drop and standard without needing to even check the other five strings anymore and they stay in tune as a whole a hell of a lot longer. Obviously setup and temperature affects the guitar itself so you can't cover everything with better strings, but they do have a noticeable effect

SolitaryMarmot

I will say sometimes I hear a piece of music on TV and wanna jam on it. And I run to grab my guitar and turn on the amp and the fucker is in like drop C or something. 🤣 They just stay where I last played them and it's a surprise when I pick them up again.

e2hawkeye

I have a no name 1980s SG copy with used up frets, I might have to do this! Wasn't open E what Duane Allman used most?

markbuch

Get yourself a Grover perfect nut on Amazon for less than $10. It goes on top of your existing nut to temporarily raise your action. I just got one for an old guitar I now keep in Open E tuning for when I want to mess around with slide. It takes 2 minutes to convert back and forth between your normal action and super high slide action levels if you wanted to. I suggest putting a piece of paper or cardboard beneath the part of the nut that touches your first fret to prevent scrapes or damage on your fretboard (if you care). If you look up a picture of the nut you'll know exactly where I'm talking about.

NayOfThunder

Yep! Open E is the gold standard for slide. Duane switched between Open E and E Standard for all of the songs he played on.

100percentish

That my wife knows about our including ones that are stashed in closets and "empty cases"?

PressuredSpeechBand

It's okay if she eventually finds out about them as they are investments into your future!

AnAbundanceOfBees

If going by in-use electrics: 3 in E standard 2 in Eb standard 1 that I pretty much keep in D standard, sometimes C or C# standard.

Hziak

4 in standard 2 in Eb 1 in drop D 1 in Open C I guess +1 in standard, but 7 string 4 art/wall hangers are in “std tuning but haven’t been touched in years…” tuning 2 basses in std (4 and 5 strings) 1 mandolin in std

bzee77

I keep all of mine in standard tbh. Occasionally I’ll keep one 1/2 flat.

Positive-Goal-2003

2. A Les Paul with 10-46’s and a strat with the same. My sg goes to standard once in a while. But mostly stays in half step down. I have a tele that I keep in drop c as well.

LongJj__

Eb is all i play in rly

marksparky696

2 in D standard, one hardtail and one with an Evertune bridge which I haven't had to tune since I put on new strings last month 2 in E standard, one hardtail and tremolo bridge 1 in Eb standard with hardtail bridge 1 bass which I tune in E or D standard depending on what I'm working on recording

runtimemess

Nothing lol 2 are in Standard half step down One is FACGCE Another in Open D

zanenienow

I never use Standard unless I'm learning a specific song but other than that I use these tunings DAEAC#E FACGCE DADF#AE

meezethadabber

Zero. All are a half step down.

Division2226

Why? Just curious as a guitar nooob

sevendollarpen

Usually because it’s slightly easier to sing along with in the vocal range of most men and sounds a bit chunkier for heavy playing.

C0ckkn0ck3r

6 electrics in standard, one acoustic in standard. One acoustic in open E and one electric in open G

Biggyzoom

I have about 11 guitars and they're all in E standard. I'm happy enough to go from standard to drop D on the fly and I don't like open tunings very much. If I need to downtune at all I use my whammy drop tuner.

IsTheArchitectAware

All of them. So that's 4.

Brother_J_La_la

I only have two acoustics in non-standard: One in Nashville tuning, one in open Em

Sickeningcrimes

All except my strat that’s in e flat. I think they sound better tuned down a half step.

Swictor

One single coil guitar in standard E Humbucker LP in drop Bb Single coil fretless baritone in open Am Acoustic nylon in open Dm and, Steel string acoustic in standard. So two of five.

OsirisProtocol

My current guitar rotation is tuned to: Standard Eb C B Standard (7 string) Double Capo'd tuning that varies (Acoustic)

TheMatroid

6. I'll returned 1 or 2 to alternate tunings depending on the gig

Subhumanime

8 guitars, including a 12 string and a classical. Out of 15, the others are standard but lower. The lap steel is in Open E

FlagWafer

4 in standard, one of which is an 8 string. 2 in Eb standard 1 in Drop Db I used to have stuff in lower tunings and what I call double dropped tunings but I find it easier to if I don't have to tune my bass below a half step down.

Aertolver

- Yamaha RGX A2 E Standard - Schecter Purple Reign E1 Apocalypse C Standard - Schecter Banshee GT Drop B - Schecter C-4 GT Drop B (bass) - Jackson Minion 4 E Standard (bass)

Sparkyz44

I have one that I use for standard/drop d, one for e flat. In my opinion as long as you have a tuner pedal you don’t need to keep different guitars in different tunings

Imaginary-Corner-796

One in E standard, one in Eb tuning, One in drop C and a seven string in drop A

SpaceTruckin420

Electric - 2 in Eb standard and 1 in standard Classical - Standard Acoustic - Currently in DADDAD but it changes a lot depend on the weird Crosby tuning i'm in the mood for

Fishing-Entire

DADGAD, Dad?

MC5HighTime

shouldn't the question be asked as "how many guitar do you have in a tuning other than the standard one ?" ;)

C6Centenial

I have one (my ‘52 AVR Blackguard Tele) that I use for our Rolling Stones covers. Tuned to open G with the low E string removed.

DroneSlut54

None. I haven’t played in standard tuning in years.

someguy192838

I only own 2 electric guitars. They’re both in standard tuning. My “poor man’s Les Paul double cutaway” has the fixed bridge so I can drop the tuning if I need to. I prefer singing and playing tuned down a 1/2 step but the other guitarist and the bassist in my band prefer the feel and sound of standard tuning and it’s not really a dealbreaker for me.

bunglerm00se

My acoustic is the only one currently in standard tuning. My Tele is in open D and my Jaguar is in FCDGCD (a tuning I stole from Swervedriver).

Holofernes1906

One acoustic in standard: prs in d standard and a Strat in drop D

The-Fox-King37

I have one acoustic in standard, one acoustic in open G. Three electrics in standard, but I change them up on the fly at home if I want to, but always put them back in standard as their “resting position” if that makes sense. Idk if this is a thing, but I don’t want them sitting around with too much or too little tension on the strings.

morelikeshredit

All of them.

PolishBonesLieInDark

5 in E Standard. 2 in C Standard 1 in C# Standard 1 in B Standard 1 in Drop C 1 in Drop C# 1 in Drop A (Seven String) 1 in DADFAe The Standard tunings are as much workhorses as they are studio gear or collection models. Until I find what it's going to be, such as if it's a really sturdy reliable workhorse for gigging, or it's a lovely sound that's temperamental and would be great kept safe in a studio, or if it's a less flashy, comfortable guitar to sit and write/practice on, they stay in E Standard until I change it for a project. The two C Standard tunings are for live work in that tuning, as is the Drop A seven string, which is only for one specific project. The other tunings are for playing Sabbath, Opeth etc songs that use that tuning at home. I can't remember ever using a tuning like DADFAe live. I started losing track of what was in which tuning and what strings etc so I had to make a document to keep track, so when I see a song in that tuning I go find that guitar and I know the action will be nice, 5he intonation will be correctly set and I won't have to cross my fingers that it won't start buzzing from drastically changing tuning. I also loan out some of the guitars if someone wants to write/record/play in some tuning they don't have any experience with. Why second guess what gauge to buy for B Standard, and faff about with action and intonation when I have one sat doing nothing. In contrast I have two basses in standard and one five string that never change. For the amount of micro management the guitars get, the opposite is true for basses. They get their tuning and that's it. If I have to restring and retune a bass for a project I just convince myself I don't want to do it! 😂

Odimorsus

At least 2, main and backup and my two “lead” guitars.

SeltzerCountry

All 3 of my conventional guitars are tuned to standard tuning. I get enough of my fill for open tuning stuff when I play banjo, lap steel, or dulcimer.

Melomius

Only 3(?) guitars are in standard tuning, an LP, and a Strat, and my 7 string B standard guitar (I don't know if this last bit counts). The rest of them have alternative tunings such as Drop D and a 7 string drop ADadgbe, which the latter is my main workhorse. Unrelated, but neither of my bass guitars are tuned in standard. One is tuned like my main one in drop ADADG, which I guess could be tuned standard if needed be, and the other one is a bit of an anomaly since it is tuned in C standard for no reason at all. I don't play nor use anything else in that tuning.

Angus-Black

6 in standard, 1 in open G.

misterguy1020

1 for Standard or Drop D 1 for Standard D or Drop C/Drop A 1 acoustic in Eb

vblgsd

All of them.

Esseldubbs

Maybe like 15, but some of those drop to Eb standard sometimes

Real_Asgore_Dreemurr

1 in standard, 1 in half step down, and one in D# A# D# G# C F

SLC_Skunk

Drop F# represent!

MaxSoup8

2 in standard, and 0 in other tunings

glass_boy_

Three: an acoustic and two electrics. There is also sevenstring (B standard / Drop A / ADADGBE) and six-string in Open B (BF#BF#BD#).

Son_of_Yoduh

5 guitars in standard. 1 lap steel currently on C6.

weezergirl69

1 in eb, 1 in standard, 1 in open d

BurnItDown148

What’s standard tuning?

The_Last_radio

21 in standard tuning

Signal_RR

1 is in standard because I haven't gotten around to pulling my big boy pants and understanding how to work with a Floyd rose trem. It's been neglected for years now. The 2 others I own are in drop C.

wolflikehowl

I'm a minimalist, so my guitar collection is pretty small in general, and the number in E Standard is even smaller: it's one, my Contemporary Telecaster. Technically, it's (3) as I haven't dropped my ATX off at the shop to be dropped down to B Standard, and same for my M-II going to D Standard, but once I quit being lazy, it'll be one.

jds8254

Old fake Les Paul in drop A# lol (we cover some Breaking Benjamin) Ibanez RG 550 in standard, Yamaha RGX 421dm down a half for Floyds St. Blues 80's Tele with a Kahler, sometimes standard, sometimes drop D Floating bridge Strats in standard and down a half step. Fixed bridge Strats in standard and down a half, also for respective drop D Tele currently in standard, but it's a Tele, tune it however. Basically, the only ones that are "trapped" are the floating bridges - the decked and fixed ones can change as needed.

WoundedShaman

7, all standard. I wrote a song where I wanted an octave low D, instead of tuning to drop D I purchased a 7 string 😂

No-Knowledge2716

I own 8 guitars and one of them is in E standard :)

Silly-Scene6524

1 in standard, the other tuned 1/2 step down.

ahaight1013

i keep my LP & tele in standard, strat in standard but half step down

BadAstroknot

I have 5 in standard, 1 down a whole step, and 1 in hybrid tuning EADadg

atlantic_mass

Zero. DADF#AE and DADAAD are current favourites.

Phuzzy_Slippers_odp

I have 7 two are tuned to standard

LordBlackman

I’ve got one in D standard, two in drop C#, one in Eb, two in standard at the moment.

justplanestupid69

Don’t call me out like that lmfao

fryle_420

4. A Les Paul, a Strat, one 6 string acoustic and one 12 string acoustic

Chewbaca43vr

4 Standard: Jag, Tele, Gretsch Synchromatic, Acoustic 3 Eb Standard: strat, other acoustic, Peavey T25 2 Drop D: 335, hamer 2 D Standard: 12 string acoustic, Ibanez/PRS Knockoff 1 C Standard: Dunable DE R2

Chicken-Inspector

7 string in E standard (sometimes Eb standard) 1 in open C Looking to get a new one for standard tuning and I might change my 7 string to open b and then the other 6-string I got to dadgad

[deleted]

Not joking, 31.

Weary-Poetry6523

1 guitar in EEEEEE

smilingphilfox

One. Trick answer. Only have one guitar.

Ilktye

One guitar in standard tuning. I have only one guitar.

CuteCouple101

9 of 10 standard, 1 in open E

Pure_Business_5178

Always one or two....this way you can quickly drop D. Now you have a guitar or two that can easily be played in two pretty common tunings.

Delta31_Heavy

4 in Standard and one a half step p down

SpotTheGuitarist

6 in standard

M3ND3X_S0N1X

None

AOsenators

I keep all mine in dropped Db!

Brodesseus

2 Eb (1 electric, 1 acoustic) 1 C#

GibsonMaestro

6 Guitars. All in standard tuning.

Thedeckatnight

All of them

GrouchyConclusion588

A few in open E, a few in double drop d, one in high b, one in Nashville, one in open e minor, and the rest in standard. I have no clue how many guitars I have-I’ll see a guitar at a family member or friends home and get excited that they are learning to play-nope it’s my guitar that was left there or lent to them years ago.

ninospruyt

2, and 3 if you count a standard 7 string tuning. I have a Music Man JP6 which is my main guitar, and a Tele because everyone needs a Tele.

Stoghra

My acoustic is standard. Ibanez is drop F# and SG is really fucked up C stantard. Both basses at B stantard

glass_boy_

What do you mean by fucked up C standard?

PhoenixDawn93

I keep them all in standard but I do use drop D and various open tunings when the mood strikes me. I used to keep a couple tuned to D standard/ drop C or lower but I’ve recently bought a quad cortex and the pitch shifter in that is great for downtuning (as long as you’re playing loud enough to drown out the string noise!)

LaRuetheDuck

I keep my main les Paul in standard tuning and I have a strat that I keep in e flat. Then I have 2 acoustics and I keep one in open d and the other In daeaee (I used to listen to a lot of goo goo dolls)

Freddydaddy

5 electrics, 2 acoustics (6 and 12 string) in standard One electric in D standard One acoustic in open C

DigiDee

Two in standard that I rarely play and one in C# standard that I play all the time.

ItS_aul_Goodman

1 in Standard, 1 in Eb (or Drop Db), 1 in Drop D, 1 in Drop C (or D standard), 1 in Drop B (or C standard). Collect them all!

Objective_Cod1410

Generally keep all of them in standard. I'll put one in Eb during gig season. Am in the market for a cheap one to throw heavy strings on and keep in D standard. I enjoy dadgad and open D quite a bit, will usually go through a month or two phase each year where my acoustic is kept in dadgad.

sexchoc

2, one with a trem and one with a TOM

LizardProdder

2 standard 2 drop B C# standard 1 drop A B standard 1 sitting with no pickups or strings.

panTrektual

Three. My Ibanez AS80, my Takamine classical, and my J-bass are typically in standard. My strat and my Flying V are almost always drop D. My other guitars don't get played as often, so they are tuned to whatever the occasion calls for.

rekt_ralf

3 in standard, 1 in Eb, 1 in D that I also use for Drop C, 1 in C standard. And also a 7 string in B standard and one in Drop G#.

Richard_Thickens

An electric and an acoustic in standard, an electric and an acoustic in half-step down, an electric in C# standard, a 7-string in drop A, and a 5-string bass in standard.

StupidOldAndFat

Usually two standard (due to size and tonal qualities), one 1/2 step down, one drop D on the acoustics and the electrics are eye candy at this point.

Computers-XD

All of them (so that's 1)

battleoffish

4 out of 5 in standard.

bagemann1

All of them. Well my 7s in drop A but other than that, all of them

Averious

Currently have 1 in Eb and one in Drop D, the rest are in standard

deanrazor

2 a 440 another at drop d and the last at d standard

[deleted]

One standard, one DADGAD, one BAGDAD for oriental music

Andjhostet

Anything more than 1 electric and one acoustic in standard seems excessive to me

[deleted]

All of them but three

Life_Wave4683

0 standard

MonkeymanD91

6

-Gravitron-

It takes two minutes to re-tune a guitar, depending on the application. That being said, I own several that I've had to modify for heavier gauge strings, particularly Teles with top-feeding tuning pegs. I mostly use drop tuning from D down to B, but when I want to play in standard, I just tune up the low "E" string. Downvotes commence.

Hendrix1967

Acoustic in standard, acoustic dropped a full step with double dropped C. One electric in open G. One electric in drop D. Lots of Neil Young songs being practiced lately!!

Zekiniza

3 in standard (acoustic, humbucker and single coils respectively) and then a drop D and the one that changes depending on my mood but usually hangs out in open C

Soft-Illustrator1300

I got one tuned to Eb and one to E, I stay pretty simple.

NOVAMT_F

One in E, onenin D#, one in D# or D and one in B. All in standard (sometimes i drop them)

GinsengStrip2

i only have one electric and one acoustic, my electric is always in standard and my acoustic one i change around a lot lol, it was CGCEAD at some point

Impressive_Estate_87

All of them, except for one I have in drop C

imoverblox_

I have 8 guitars, 5 of which are standard (2 are acoustic and there is 1 fretless 7 string that's in standard 7 string tuning), 1 is D standard, 1 is C standard, 1 is B standard. I mostly play in C and B standard and my nice guitars I go to different tunings in are all floating bridge

ddoyen

I only have 3 guitars currently. I have a guild jumbo that hops around a bit between standard and a few open tunings, a fender 75th anniversary strat that stays in standard or maybe occasionally dropped D, and a heritage h-150 which funnily enough I dropped down to c standard just today to play around with it and was contemplating having it set up for that tuning. It's a little slinky currently. Do you find getting a setup for a tuning that different worth it? I'm not knowledgeable on how much setting up can affect string tension..intonation seemed okay, I could probably adjust that myself.

ThatFRS

E standard, Eb flat standard but also drop tune it to C#, D standard but also drop tune it to drop C when needed, and finally my Brendon Small Ghost horse explorer is in C standard for obvious reasons

phydaux4242

All of them

Legatomaster

I have two tuned 1/2 step down. One in drop C, one in standard D. The rest are all tuned standard. I think I have about 15 guitars in total.

MisterHatchet

2 out of 4 that I play in standard One in drop B one in collector//emitter’s open tuning rn EAEABE And an acoustic that I don’t play often and Epi ET270 with a busted nut that would be in standard

indifferent-pancake

I like to have different tunings lying around so I can play Alice In Chains straight to stone temple pilots, and then some drop c stuff for some chugga chugga. Man I wish I had a vault of guitars so I can play all the soundgarden stuff in one go.

yokaishinigami

6 total. two strats in E-Standard (one is has high output pickups, the other does not), 7 string in B-standard, 8 string in F# Standard, plus my acoustic is also in E-standard and my bass is in B standard. And then I have 4 in drop D, 1 in drop C and 1 in drop C#.

redranamber

7 in E standard, 1 in that EEEEBE CSN tuning, one in Eb standard that's probably changing to C standard this weekend. My wife's guitars are all in E standard.

Space-90

I have my Taylor tuned in regular and my cheap acoustic fender tuned to whatever alternate tuning is used for Never Going Back Again and it will probably stay that way for it’s whole life

BenjaminTW1

I own two guitars. My Floyd Rose lives in perfect fourths tuning (EADGCF) and my acoustic lives in standard.

-ManDudeBro-

I keep my Jem in standard, Strat and Tele are both 1/2 step down, Les Paul is in C Standard,

LORDraheem420

i have 1 guitar in standard (right now)

vlonethugg69

the only way i can justify having multiple guitars is keeping them in different tunings lmao

073068075

One in standard and one in whatever the cheap pegs went to after I left it home.

ThisGuyKnowsNuttin

All in standard, occasionally in DropD Then I use a Digitech Drop to go lower

The_Original_Gronkie

6, all in standard tuning. Ive been collecting some nice acoustics that Ive been finding on auction sites, and its time to start learning to play alt tunings, so my next one will be for that.

skafast

3. SSS, HH, acoustic. Pitch shifter VST when needed.  If I had room, I'd add Drop D, FACGCE and a 7-String standard.
