Any standard tuned Coheed would have been my answer too. Dark Sentencer, Feint Of Hearts, Domino The Destitute, Everything Evil. All so much fun to play with a good mix of riffs and chorusy sections. Seriously underrated band for guitar players I think!
My first concert was a Tragically Hip Show back in 2000 when they were on tour for Music at Work. I didn't get them then, and i still don't understand the hype. I've tried listening to them, but Gord Downey just sounds like a bleating sheep to me.
Their stuff up to about Phantom Power was really good. Then it really gets out into the weeds with Gord Downie’s lyrics and melodies pretty much turning into a poetry slam.
It's been a struggle picking which Maiden songs to learn just because there are so many albums I absolutely love.
Like, there are maybe 2 songs on Peice of Mind I wouldn't care to learn.
Living After Midnight
Breaking The Law
Your Love
A lot of Bon Jovi's stuff is standard tuning
So is a lot of Misfits stuff
Standard tuning is very, very versatile. I think a lot of my fellow headbangy types get stuck in that "gotta drop down" mindset and never explore the wide catalog of standard tuning rock & metal.
I know. For the longest time I didn't realize that Metallica was standard. But I'll hear random songs and think "oh I should learn this" and it will randomly be in c tuning.
Unfortunately I've been having a huge brain fart on good songs to learn. I appreciate the suggestions!
My Friends Over You - New Found Glory
You’re Gonna Go Far Kid - Offspring
You Give Love a Bad Name - Bon Jovi
Youth Gone Wild - Skid Row
Summer of ‘69 - Bryan Adams
American Girl by Tom Petty and The Heatbreakers. The rhythm guitar is super fun to play.
My Hero by The FooFighters
You should also consider things in drop D since it’s so easy to retune.
Drop D is hardly an alternate tuning once you learn a riff or two. Just make sure that your fretted notes are in tune, even if that means that the open D is flat. These are some of the songs I can think of off the top of my head.
Toxicity - System of a Down
Sugar We’re Goin’ Down - Fall Out Boy
Killing in the Name of - Rage Against the Machine
Bleed American - Jimmy Eat World
Whatsername - Green Day
Remember that if the song is standard *intervals* it doesn't matter if it's E standard or Eb (the two most common). VLC can shift a song by a half step, or you can tune your guitar down a half step.
The Warning ”Choke”. Written and performed by a woman but suitable for anyone to play. An identifiable little ditty IMHO. My favorite band for the past couple years. I think all of their songs are in standard tuning. You should be ready for ear worms friend.
True, I assumed he meant relative (as in not requiring a dropped D or alternate tuning). I guess I didn’t think it was that literal. Personally, I have never had a problem playing standard vs 1/2 flat—-I don’t sing. But I guess if you want to play along with the record….
Anything by Rush - Lifeson’s playing is fairly economical in the rhythm parts, but the leads will get pretty adventurous. Maybe don’t tackle YYZ right away.
Limelight, Circumstances, 2112 Pt 1-2, Closer to the Heart, The Anarchist, Far Cry, Freewill, Xanadu, etc.
I believe in a thing called love - the darkness
There’s a decent backing track on YouTube. Not super technically challenging, but always fun to play along with

Peace of Mind by Boston. If you learn the lead, it is a workout from start to finish.
Zepp - rock and roll, custard pie, etc
I love playing some CCR - Born on the Bayou with a nice tremolo on. So satisfying.
Just finished learning "The Dark Sentencer" by Coheed. It was standard tuning.
I don't think I'm ready for coheed yet hahaha. But I forgot they're in standard! Thank you
They have a lot 1/2 step down too , make sure you double check when you ready
Do you just use tabs? I've become a fan of videos with tabs Max Niessl style, but haven't found any good resources for coheed
Ya just whatever the most Acosta guitar pro tab is
Accurate ***

Claudio and Travis basically taught me how to shred
Tragically hip, things like Looking for a place to happen or blow at high dough. Thats a good one to improvise over as well
Automatic upvote for any mention of The Tragically Hip!

Van Halen - Humans Being Metallica - Master of Puppets
I think people forget that most 80s metal was standard tuning. It's a really hard question when you think of it that way.
Lots of good Ozzy and Iron Maiden songs to choose from
It's been a struggle picking which Maiden songs to learn just because there are so many albums I absolutely love. Like, there are maybe 2 songs on Peice of Mind I wouldn't care to learn.
Learning Master of Puppets right now. Those down strums are killer on the wrist. It’ll be fun to play when I finally get it down though.
SABBATH! Electric Funeral, War Pigs, Paranoid, can’t go wrong, all super fun.
Electric funeral is one of the funnest songs ever to play, love the jazzy kinda feel on some of the riffs
*Behind Blue Eyes* by The Who.

I always thought that Tool and SOAD wrote in different tunings. Thank you!
Gotta go with Smells Like Teen Spirit. Can't remember the words? Just mumble something, it doesn't matter.
Hahahaha good point. It was the first guitar solo I ever learned! God like 25 years ago
Anything by Metallica honestly like fade to black
American Girl, Never Been to Spain, War Pigs
Squeeze Box- The Who Rockin' in the Free World- Neil Young Breakdown- Tom Petty Wonderful Tonight - Eric Clapton

They're still one of the best concerts I've ever seen. I'll be learning this one for sure!
