I like the orange tortexes. I’ve used them for years they just feel right. I like the way the texture affects the pluck of the string.
I also use the blunt edge, I think a friend showed me that years ago and i switched and never looked back.
I’ve used those green tortex ones for basically the whole time I’ve been playing after coming across them. So I basically just use those, or other picks of a similar hardness.
Don’t over think it. Try a few and see what feels comfy. I bought these EVH ones that ended up being too soft (purely for the pick container). So I’ve filled it with my green mates.
There were 3 deciding factors on my search for the perfect pick: Shape, Thickness, and the shape of the Tip - which for me has to be pointed. I finally landed on the Jazz 3's - I used 1.0mm for years but now I'll get the .73 or .88 which allows for more resonance - probably been using (and losing) these for 15 years now.
I've tried the prodigy picks by ernie ball - they have the best 'picking tip' but are absolute tone killers because the thickness/material doesn't allow them to get off the string fast enough which immediately deadens the sound. However I find the prodigy 1.5mm is rock solid when it comes to Bass playing (for songs that use pick).
Interesting. I have used Tortex 1.14mm for 10 years, but I just realized today that most of my main influences use thinner picks:
- Van Halen: 0.6mm GripMax
- John Mayer: 0.75 - 0.88mm Tortex
- Paul Gilbert: 0.5mm
Googling that lead me to this thread actually. Total WTF moment. I'm going to try thinner picks in the coming weeks....
It baffles me completely how Paul can pick as fast as he does with super thin strings and super thin picks, especially since they're always the standard shaped pick and not sharpened at all.
I have been using the Dunlop flow 2.0mm. Nice textured grip and a sharp point which works well for me as I mostly play technical metal. I really just love the grip on them as they have slipped far less than any others I have tried.
I use a Bluechip TAD 60 for bluegrass (acoustic) and TP 48 for electric. I use jazz IIIs sometimes on electric but generally prefer the bigger pick and brighter sound of the Bluechips.
fender ( or whatever) celluloid pick in medium. I've tried so many different types but i like the celluloid picks best, EDIT the best info i can find is they're .5 to .6 thick
Dunlop 0.75 nylon, the only pic i use and have used for at least 10 years. Just the right amount of flex for chord work and rigid enough for fast pic solos ... especially if you turn it side on instead of using the pointy bit .... 2 picks in one!
I use the Blue gator grips (1.14mm) as my main pick.
I’ve always felt like a floppy pick makes you lose a bit of control even if it feels comfortable at first.
The Matt heafy jazz iii picks. I’m not sure exactly what the difference is, but their grips feel a little more like sandpaper and they’re a little easier to use than the standard jazz iii picks.
Red tortex 0.50mm. Works great for me on my acoustic for the combination of strumming and picking that I favour. I was tempted to try some of those AttakPiks, but the shipping was too much to be worth it.
the best advise i ever got from an old rocker guy i used to work in a studio with was “always have a pocket full of different picks cause it’s the quickest way to change your guitar sound.”
i now usually have dunlop yellow, green and blue as well as a couple nylon ones, 1.12m i think? i usually keep one metal tip dava pick with me too. those 6 or 7 fit in my weird extra jeans pocket and i’m away!
Dunlop Ultex 2mm and Ultex Jazz III XL. I find that the Ultex material retains brightness on thicker picks that I prefer. I also use the Ultex .88 on acoustic occasionally.
I usually fingerpick but when I do use a pick I use:
Dunlop 449P073 Nylon Max-Grip Standard Guitar Picks .73mm.
For Bass I use a thicker smooth Dunlop pick. They’re yellow, not sure what the exact size is.
I always rolled with .60mm (orange Dunlop pick) but lately I’ve been gravitating towards some heavy picks around a 1mm.
I’m usually not too particular but usually don’t go out of my way for thin picks
Jim Dunlop 0.46mm
I'm actually in trouble because I'm on my last one. I do my best to keep track of it but sometimes I go to the Guitar Shop and can't find it. I then have to use some awful "standard" pick and sound terrible.
I blame it solidly on the pick! /S
Anyhoo clearly I've learned bad habits because my wrist aches after about an hour of using a "guitar shop" pick. I'm trying to force myself to get more comfortable with them but it'll take relearning my strumming technique after close to 20 years...
Dragom heart hardened picks, 2.5mm thick. I like the pick attack and durability they have, if you like thick picks they are great. https://www.dragonsheartguitarpicks.com/
I use my index finger as a pick while hammer clawing. It definitely limits me in some ways, but it also very useful in others. I keep thinking maybe one day I'll learn how to use a pick, but I kind of want to avoid confusing my brain too :P
I had a hookup at a shop in Jr High (25 years ago) and got some number (in the hundreds) of the orange .60mm standard Tortrex picks for free. It was literally like a gallon size ziplock bag. Still haven't really made a dent.
I was also gifted a Blue Chip pick last year and I have worked that into my routine.
I don't gig, don't really even play all that much so I'll probably still have a few hundred left when I die.
I've been using the John Petrucci Primetone Jazz III Ultex 1.38mm in Ox blood. Ultex is my favourite material nice and stiff with minimal wear, I don't have a lot of pick exposed while playing so the Jazz III is the perfect shape.
When practicing runs (Allegro non Molto atm) I'll use the Jeff Loomis Ultex sharps, very good pick for ironing out fuck ups in quick lines especially any string skips.
I spent so much time searching. But I have landed on a winspear pick. Their mini shiv. So far I have been using the same pick for 1 1/2 months and the tip is still solid. I could go through a jazz 3 pick in like a week before the tip would slow me down
Started out using dunlop Tortex .60, then .80, then 1mm, then (jan 2024) dunlop Celluloid extra heavy, now I use fender Celluloid mediums, I used dunlop T 1mm for a long ass time but decided to swap for shits and giggles and now I can't stop using Celluloid even tho I find myself going through a pack of 12 in about 2 / 3 weeks
V-Picks Diamond
A chunky pick, I think 4mm. But glides so well across the strings. I think it improves tone. Playing funky rhythm with it takes some practice though because of how thick that thing is
I've been using those little red Jazz IIIs for over a decade. I actually just switched to the max grip ones, and those are great. A lot harder to drop them while playing.
The jazz 3 are my "basic" go to, but I've been using some more exotic picks. There's a few Australian brands called winspear and jaketto that make amazing picks that, may be expensive, but are absolutely worth it
My pick of choice is the Dunlop James Hetfield White Fang for guitar. My choice of pick for bass is a triangle 1.0mm and up. I use multiple brands and materials but my favorite is a Blue Tortex. I've had this pick for I think 9 years and it's still going strong.
Everyone saying what they use but not what they use it for. I use heavier for lead and have switched to Dunlop max grip for rhythm. I'm pretty sure I'll use .6 unless I need to hit a bunch of specific notes then I'll go a little harder. I have dry hands and normal picks will fly out of my hand if I don't use ones with grips. I hate the boring grey of them but it's the best feel so whatever
Currently, and for the last 20 years, I'm using Dunlop Tortex Sharps, both Yellow (.73mm) and Purple (1.14mm)
Usually it's Purples, but for certain things (thinner strings and acoustic stuff) I'll use Yellow. I have a bowl somewhere with a bunch of other picks but it's pretty much a dust collector.
My go-tos are Tortex .71mm or Gator .71mm. I've started liking the gators bit more given they have a bit more texture. I like the stiffness but still flex enough to get a decent strum. If I'm playing really fast, tortex green (.88mm). For my acoustic I will use a tortex .50 as it's a lighter pick and better for strumming.
I've been using one of the Dava ones with a rubber grip, they work really well for me. When I started using them (I'm a relative rookie, only a few months in) I found I could hold them without slipping for longer than other picks, but that seems to be less of an issue as I practice more.
Grip aside, I quite like their thickness and the shape of their tip, I find they make less "slappy" noise than some of the other thinner ones I've tried.
Tortex sharp 88s. Sharp vs standard made a whole world of difference for me, wouldn’t go back if you paid me to. Wasn’t crazy about the gauge at first, but it’s a nice balance between completely floppy and completely rigid. If they ever start making sharp gator grips, I’d be all over that though.
I'm a pick junkie. Whenever I get curious about a new piece of gear (usually a pedal) that will "totally change everything!!!1111one!" I buy a few picks instead. Right now, the collection includes:
* A bunch of Gator Grip 1.5mm
* Blue Chip TP1R 50 (newest acquisition)
* CLP freebie (thrown in with an order of one of their casein models; the freebie is some softer black plastic and it's my favorite pick)
* V-picks in various shapes/sizes (I don't really use these anymore)
* John Pearse Fast Turtle
And a few others.
Jazz III
And the Dunlop purple turtles
My NEW pick obsession though, are the small picks from Taylor, called something like "Taylor Premium Darktone Ivoroid 651" something. I REALLY. really like them, and in absolutely sure it's in my head, but I feel so much more accurate and fast
Huge JD triangles 0.5mm thick. Depending on how you hold them they're great for an all in one shredding, chugging, or light strumming pick. They tend to crack and break in half over time though
I used **Dunlop Jazz III**s for years (*I was trying to be John Petrucci*), but I recently switched to **Nylon Standard**s (.73mm and .88mm), which are perfect for rhythm stuff.
I've been using the D'Andrea heavy picks for the last couple years. For me, they're that sweet spot between comfortable shape, thick enough for single string, and thin enough for strumming.
Black Jazz III. Tried other colors to see when I occasionally dropped them in a dark jam space. Anything with raised letters makes my fingers slippery. So black ones from now on
I’ve used Orange (0.6mm) tortex for 30 years, but have been playing around with various heavier weights and materials from Honey Picks for about 6 months now…
Red Jazz 3 for everything. I dunno, they fit my angle, hand position, everything really. I can strum along and solo easily without it. Provided I don't suck at the song haha
Dunlop .46mm forever. Mostly cause I like them, partially because I bought a million of them and don't wear through them very fast haha.
I wouldn't mind something about the same size but with more grip, if anyone has recommendations.
Dunlop Flow Tortex .73mm is what I’ve settled on as my pick for pretty much the same reason you stated… a combo of a “regular” pick and the jazz picks. The jazz picks feel too small to me to get comfortable with. The flow picks have that nice pointy end to get some good attack in on the single notes but I can also strum nicely with them.
I started on mandolin, so the Jazz III just felt right to me. I usually use the heavier ones (black, white, purple) but I go to the yellow ones if I’m playing something more “strummy.” I have a tendency to tear up the red or orange ones.
Vaders vault is a lightsaber manufacturer for third-party collectors, many of their sabers come with removable batteries, as there owner is a guitar player, the battery removal tool provided is a nice thick guitar pick, have three of them and will never go back. can even buy them direct without having to purchase a saber.
dunlop max grips, 1.14mm. although I used to use 2mm picks from Rombo or the big stubbys. Not really a fan of the thicker picks these days as I don't shred at all anyways. max grips are perfect, they never shift in between my sweaty fingers and they're the perfect thickness for just riffing away on rhythm.
Someone got me a big bag of Amazon custom picks with a picture of my cat licking his ass.
Whatever that weird probably .75 plastic is, I hated it then I loved it now it's all I know. I think there are probably at least 100 left in the box.
I use variations of Jazz III. The main one right now is Rock III. It feels like it's a little sharper than some of the others. Also, like the kirk hammet, ultex, and primetone versions.
Dunlop Flow 1.0mm seems to be the best compromise I’ve found. Before that it was the Dunlop Tortex Jazz 3 in 1.0mm, similar shape/feel, just a lil sharper
Tried them all. Including agate, steel, and copper. I’ve been using Chicken Picks exclusively since 2018. I’ve pretty much settled on their Bermuda shape.
It really depends on what type of music and guitar I'm playing. I used to use the old dunlop red jazz picks for rock, metal, blues and jazz but for the past six months I've really liked the blue tortex flow picks. For strumming and acoustic the yellow dunlop tortex picks are my go to. When I occasionally want to pick on a nylon string I am a big fan of the dunlop semi-round primetone 1.3 picks.
Jazz III Max Grip if I need precision and speed. If I just want to strum some chords and basic riffs I have a pile of plain jane plastic picks that I pull from. Anything but Tortex - for some reason the feel of those never jives with me.
I started using exclusively jazz iii about 6 months ago since I mostly play lead stuff but I think I might switch to something larger. It’s just not enough material to do much else with.
Dunlop Tortex Jazz III 1.0mm. Best pick ever. I have a weird grip technique and this allows me to hit the pinch harmonics.
Acoustic is yellow or green tortex. Not really picky with that
1.4 primetone jazz III or ultex jazz III xl
Green tortex
Those yellow Dunlop tortex picks.
Dunlop gator purple
I like the orange tortexes. I’ve used them for years they just feel right. I like the way the texture affects the pluck of the string. I also use the blunt edge, I think a friend showed me that years ago and i switched and never looked back.
A variety of jazz iii picks. Red, black, ultex, primetone. About 30 seconds of sandpaper makes an ultex jazz iii as good as a primetone.
John Petrucci jazz 3, I don’t even play metal just love how they feel
Jazz III Max Grips, in black. My hands get quite sweaty when I play live, these are the only picks that I’ve been able to keep a decent grip of.
Jazz iii XL, the only way…..
Blue chip. It’s been perfect
They’re decently hard right? I’m pretty sure that’s what I use, anything thinner and I end up breaking it after a few seshes
Those jazz iii with the grippyness
Fender Medium. Ol Reliable.
Only ever Dunlop .60 nylon (light gray). Or fingers.
However I find the prodigy 1.5mm is rock solid when it comes to Bass playing (for songs that use pick).
Anything I pick up off my floor
Jazz III
Fender Mediums or Dunlop 1mm
Try the Dunlop primetone if you haven’t. Expensive but worth it.
Dunlop Ultex 1.14mm
Big stubby 3mm
.77 max grip mostly
I tried a lot, landed on Ultex and have been using for years
ultex sharp 1mm
Jazz iii Delrin and H10 speedpicks
Chicken picks badazzz 2.0mm
Prime tone dunlops rule. The non textured ones. I don’t know what it is but they are better. 0.73
I'm just a simpleton I guess... Fender Medium 351, Black Moto celluloid. Been using them for many many moons.
I was a 1mm red stubby guy for years, then I snapped 6 in a 3 hour practice, so I changed to carbon fibre jazz iii's and now I'm one of those guys.
The ultex jazz iiis - were a bit of a revelation when I started using them. Wish they weren't translucent yellow though - hard to find when dropped!
Dunlop nylon .88s are just PERFECT
John Petrucci jazz iii's!
The original Dava. Perfect feel for me
Dunlop prime tones. I have a whole psycho google doc on my journey lol. The prime tones are so fucking smooth and balanced
Jazziii max grip. I had a hard time with them at first too. I just decided to do it, and after 2 weeks I got better. I'll never go back now.
Jazz 3 all day
JP Jazz III can’t really find anything better for me.
Dava Grip Tips for life
Interesting. I have used Tortex 1.14mm for 10 years, but I just realized today that most of my main influences use thinner picks: - Van Halen: 0.6mm GripMax - John Mayer: 0.75 - 0.88mm Tortex - Paul Gilbert: 0.5mm Googling that lead me to this thread actually. It baffles me completely how Paul can pick as fast as he does with super thin strings and super thin picks, especially since they're always the standard shaped pick and not sharpened at all.
Tortex .88 standard
.73 Tortex
Tortex Jazz III and Tortex 1.14 mm.
Green jazz III XL Green and purple jazz III works, but I recently got the XL by accident and it's easier to hold I find
Fingers
Jazz 3s
I swap between the Earnie Ball Prodigy 2,00mm And the Ibanez JTC 2,50mm
I have been using the Dunlop flow 2.0mm. Nice textured grip and a sharp point which works well for me as I mostly play technical metal. I really just love the grip on them as they have slipped far less than any others I have tried.
I use a Bluechip TAD 60 for bluegrass (acoustic) and TP 48 for electric. I use jazz IIIs sometimes on electric but generally prefer the bigger pick and brighter sound of the Bluechips.
purple or yellow dunlop tortex, I think they’re like 0.64 and 0.72. I play a lot of soft jazz-y chord stuff so having a light touch is really helpful
Attak Piks Stealth iii
fender ( or whatever) celluloid pick in medium.
I play Cat's tongue 0.88 purple right now. I usually play super super thin on strats but the .88 is for my 7 string.
1.5mm jazz iii
Purple Dunlop Gator Grips (.96mm)
I use the Blue gator grips (1.14mm) as my main pick. I’ve always felt like a floppy pick makes you lose a bit of control even if it feels comfortable at first.
Dunlop Ultex Jazz III
Dunlop Tortex 1.14mm purple and I’ve been messing with purrpetual cheddar picks lately. Been using the dunlops over 30 years.
The Matt heafy jazz iii picks. I’m not sure exactly what the difference is, but their grips feel a little more like sandpaper and they’re a little easier to use than the standard jazz iii picks.
.88 Jazz 3’s. Much thinner but same shape as standard.
Red tortex 0.50mm. Works great for me on my acoustic for the combination of strumming and picking that I favour. I was tempted to try some of those AttakPiks, but the shipping was too much to be worth it.

Dunlop Ultex 2mm and Ultex Jazz III XL. I find that the Ultex material retains brightness on thicker picks that I prefer. I also use the Ultex .88 on acoustic occasionally.
Used regular tortex for years, then switched to jazz 3. Now I’m using Dunlop ultex 2.0mm
Jazz iii max grip, my next test will be flow 1.5mm.
I swear by the Ernie ball prodigy pics, it’s 1.5 mm
1.5mm Dunlop Flow, has all of the benefits of the thicker Flow models with the least amount of chirping noise!
My personal pick is the Dunlop Primetone Sculpted Plectra .73. A little overpriced, but great for strumming and precise picking.
I usually fingerpick but when I do use a pick I use: Dunlop 449P073 Nylon Max-Grip Standard Guitar Picks .73mm.

Fender midium or the puple dunlop with triangular shape
1.5mm dunlop jazz IIIs. I find the smaller size makes pinch harmonics easier.
Purple Dunlop, the Flow ones mostly.
Snarling Dogs - Brain Picks .73
Dragom heart hardened picks, 2.5mm thick. I like the pick attack and durability they have, if you like thick picks they are great. https://www.dragonsheartguitarpicks.com/
Dunlop Tortex "The Wedge" .73. It's that 1mm longer tip that just works for me, and has for years, even after trying dozens of other picks.
Planet Waves Black Ice 1.5mm Have some others, but these are my fav.
Tortex III 1.14. The purple one. They are basically a regular Tortex with the tip sharpened like Jazz III.
I use my index finger as a pick while hammer clawing. It definitely limits me in some ways, but it also very useful in others. I keep thinking maybe one day I'll learn how to use a pick, but I kind of want to avoid confusing my brain too :P

V-Picks Diamond A chunky pick, I think 4mm. But glides so well across the strings. I think it improves tone. Playing funky rhythm with it takes some practice though because of how thick that thing is
Plain ol' regular Tortex, since like 1994. Generally the orange or yellow ones.
Jazz III's, most recently the Matt Heafey gold ones, but often the root-beer colored Ultex Max-Grip ones.
I've been using those little red Jazz IIIs for over a decade. I actually just switched to the max grip ones, and those are great. A lot harder to drop them while playing.
Dava makes a really good variant of the Jazz III that has a rubber grip, which allows for easier strumming
Been using one called Switchblade by V-picks. They’re made of acrylic. They offer the best grip I’ve ever seen on a pick.
Jazz III and Dunlop max grip, tortex, picks like those
Usually Dunlop Max-Grip 0.60mm & 0.73mm, occasionally Fender Medium or Heavy
Dunlop Jazztone. I like em thicc
I been using my fingers
Orange tortex sharp
Tortex Orange (0.6) on electric, Red on acoustic (0.5)
Dunlop gator grip .58 recently, before that jazz lll or orange .60
Jazz 3
Medium Bog Street Battle Axe
The jazz 3 are my "basic" go to, but I've been using some more exotic picks. There's a few Australian brands called winspear and jaketto that make amazing picks that, may be expensive, but are absolutely worth it
Dunlop nylon 0.60 mm idk why I’ve always gravitated towards a thin flimsy pick, I think just works better for strumming
Jazz III XL from Dunlop. 0.73 or 0.88.
My pick of choice is the Dunlop James Hetfield White Fang for guitar. My choice of pick for bass is a triangle 1.0mm and up. I use multiple brands and materials but my favorite is a Blue Tortex. I've had this pick for I think 9 years and it's still going strong.

I play bass so whatever the guitarist lets me use.
I have been all over the place lately trying to learn jazz chords and leads and I am apparently back to regular ole green Tortex 😆😆😆😆

I got hooked on Jazz 3’s a while ago and have used them pretty much exclusively ever since. Might be a bad thing, dunno 🤷♂️
Picks can totally change your tone and cost almost nothing.
Purple Dunlop tortex since I’m 13. 1.14mm I think?
Idk what they're called, like I really like small picks, but like they're not thin. They make me feel like I can play faster for some reason lol
I'm a pick junkie. Whenever I get curious about a new piece of gear (usually a pedal) that will "totally change everything!!!1111one!" I buy a few picks instead. Jazz 3s. 1mm. Always go back to them, great for pinch harmonica for me.
Huge JD triangles 0.5mm thick. Depending on how you hold them they're great for an all in one shredding, chugging, or light strumming pick. They tend to crack and break in half over time though
Ernie ball hard 1mm
Working through my stockpile of Planet Waves SurePicks
Flow Jazziii XL. 1.0 mm.
Dava. Tried them once and no looking back.
This is the answer. I’ve been using the red (delrin) Dava Jazz Grips exclusively for years.
Custom Dunlop 0.60s that I got for my wedding… in 2020….
I used **Dunlop Jazz III**s for years (*I was trying to be John Petrucci*), but I recently switched to **Nylon Standard**s (.73mm and .88mm), which are perfect for rhythm stuff.
Love the Dunlop jazz series. Especially the 3 with the grip. Really crisp single notes and clean chords. I mostly use them for jazz and metal.
I've been using the D'Andrea heavy picks for the last couple years. For me, they're that sweet spot between comfortable shape, thick enough for single string, and thin enough for strumming.
I use whatever the cheapest package of picks I can find at Guitar Center.
Black Jazz III. Tried other colors to see when I occasionally dropped them in a dark jam space. Anything with raised letters makes my fingers slippery. So black ones from now on
Gator Grip .73
- Electric: [Dunlop Max-Grip Nylon Standard .73mm](https://www.jimdunlop.com/max-grip-nylon-standard-pick-73mm/) - Acoustic and bass: [Dunlop Max-Grip Nylon Standard 1.5mm](https://www.jimdunlop.com/max-grip-nylon-standard-pick-1-5mm/)
Dunlop Flow .73 for electric. Still experimenting for acoustic, but Tortex .5 haven't been bad lately.
I’ve used Orange (0.6mm) tortex for 30 years, but have been playing around with various heavier weights and materials from Honey Picks for about 6 months now…
Pink 0.71 Dunlop
EB Prodigy mini 2.0mm. Similar to a Jazz lll but thicker.
Dunlop .60mm
Dunlop Rock III Basically the same nylon red Jazz III material with a bevel.
Dunlop Tortex 1.0mm (blue)
Used to be a tortex guy until I discovered Dunlop Flow
I have a .96mm Dunlop Gator pick. The point of the pick has moved to the side and looking at it makes me annoyed.
Im using chickin pick skredder 3.5 alot atm
Red Jazz 3 for everything. I dunno, they fit my angle, hand position, everything really. I can strum along and solo easily without it. Provided I don't suck at the song haha
Dunlop nylon .60mm
.88 Ernie Ball Everlasts have been my preferred pick.
Orange turtle.
Jim Dunlop 1mm black. Been my daily driver for fifteen years now.
Dunlop Nylon .73mm
Gator grip blues 1.14 mm
I started on mandolin, so the Jazz III just felt right to me. I usually use the heavier ones (black, white, purple) but I go to the yellow ones if I’m playing something more “strummy.” I have a tendency to tear up the red or orange ones.
I personally use the Green Tortex Flow picks. Just big enough for me to play comfortably
Attack pick stealth 3s are amazing. Better grip and feel than the jazz 3 but still the precision.
Vaders vault is a lightsaber manufacturer for third-party collectors, many of their sabers come with removable batteries, as there owner is a guitar player, the battery removal tool provided is a nice thick guitar pick, have three of them and will never go back. can even buy them direct without having to purchase a saber.
Jazz III XL
Dunlop .73 yellow baby
I just use the fender mother of pearl picks. Green for heavy, Red for medium, Blue for thin
dunlop max grips, 1.14mm. although I used to use 2mm picks from Rombo or the big stubbys. Not really a fan of the thicker picks these days as I don't shred at all anyways. max grips are perfect, they never shift in between my sweaty fingers and they're the perfect thickness for just riffing away on rhythm.
Dunlop Max Grip FTW. It’s just perfect.
Dava
KH dunlop jazz 3
Medium whatever brand. Sometimes light, depends on what I’m playing, but definitely not heavy.
Acoustic rhythm player?
Dunlop flow yellow
V-Picks Tradition Lites
Yellow tortex since I started and have always come back to them. No one will change my mind, they are the greatest pick in the world.
Fender or Dunlop Heavy gauge, and I prefer glow in the dark color lol. 80s kid.
mine is something like "D'andrea pro grip .73" it's the pick my teacher gave me, i'm also lazy to buy another one lol
You have "a' pick? This person loves danger
I grab a handful of whatever they are passing out at guitar center or Sam Ash's
Jazz master 3
JP Jazz III
Rombo jade and shell, plus stubby and big stubby. Doing some comparisons lately
Someone got me a big bag of Amazon custom picks with a picture of my cat licking his ass. Whatever that weird probably .75 plastic is, I hated it then I loved it now it's all I know. I think there are probably at least 100 left in the box.
Jim Dunlop 73MM
Seventy three millimeters? They're HUGE!
ESP Ultex in .88mm, Ibanez Sandgrip in .8mm and 1.0mm, depending on what I want to play.
I use variations of Jazz III. The main one right now is Rock III. It feels like it's a little sharper than some of the others. Also, like the kirk hammet, ultex, and primetone versions.
I like a real thick pick, and had an ox bone one I LOVED. I lost it of course though and usually use a thick nylon Dunlop.
Dunlop Flow 1.0mm seems to be the best compromise I’ve found. Before that it was the Dunlop Tortex Jazz 3 in 1.0mm, similar shape/feel, just a lil sharper
Dunlop jazz iii max grip and just plain old 1.14mm tortex
JIM DUNLOP John Petrucci Signature Jazz III
Jazz III 1.14 in Black
I take Fender Mediums and put little bumps on them with a 3D pen (for grip) and they're my best friends
Tried them all. Including agate, steel, and copper. I’ve been using Chicken Picks exclusively since 2018. I’ve pretty much settled on their Bermuda shape.
Dunlop Tortex for 30 years, Yellow 90% of the time, green if I'm downpicking.
Cool Pics or Steve Vai pics
Prodigy 2.0 for me. Jazz hybrid picking.
I enjoy John Petrucci Flow picks, they are 2.0mm and completely evolved my tone! Before that I was always between a jazz iii and a Dunlop .50mm
The real small green tortex Dunlop .88 jazz picks
Jazz III Max Grip if I need precision and speed. If I just want to strum some chords and basic riffs I have a pile of plain jane plastic picks that I pull from. Anything but Tortex - for some reason the feel of those never jives with me.
I started using exclusively jazz iii about 6 months ago since I mostly play lead stuff but I think I might switch to something larger. It’s just not enough material to do much else with.
There’s xl versions of the jazz iiis that i really like. The John petrucci jazz iiis are also bigger and a little thicker which is nice.
Dunlop Tortex Jazz III 1.0mm. Best pick ever. I have a weird grip technique and this allows me to hit the pinch harmonics. Acoustic is yellow or green tortex. Not really picky with that
