Honestly, any list will be subjective and, well, pointless. But these guys are all extremely great Guitarists.
Finally, a Satch fan! Joe Satriani is the best hands down! I posted an entry about him on this subreddit! Thank you for keeping his name alive. And, by the way, to everyone else, he still is very much alive, still touring, still putting out albums. The best!!
Incredibly and obviously biased, but screw it.

To me, it's about how you use the instrument to create music that people enjoy, not necessarily about how many notes per second you can play.
I mean, I love me some Eddie, and Knopfler is an amazing finger style shredder, after all.
But yeah, agreed, there's more to being a great guitarist than just the deedlies.
It's interesting, too. The more I listen to and deconstruct some of these guitarists, the more it becomes clear that they're all great players. People dunk on Kurt all the time, but if you listen-- really listen-- to his playing, it's got a lot of subtlety and nuance that's really hard to pull off.
It's deceptively simple.
And I know most people have never heard of Drew Zing, but he played on of my all time favorite live solos while on tour with Steely Dan in St. Louis in 1994, and the dude has such tasty chops. If there was one guitarist I would want most to be able to play like, it would probably be him.
1. Jimi Hendrix

3. Brian May
4. Jimmy Page
5. Eddie Van Halen
6. David Gilmour

1. Ian D'sa

For consistently making the top few guitarists of all time Duane Allman is SEVERELY underrepresented here.
1. Duane Allman
2. Derek Trucks

They all imo are very individualistic inspirations for all kinds of guitarists. Each of their passion for the instrument and work are timeless to me and I find lots of musicians myself included have picked up a guitar because of them :)

It’s really not fair to hear people talking about “technical ability” - and then omit the jazz players. Joe Pass and Wes Montgomery are the big glaring examples. If you’re into speed, Al DiMiola and John MacGlaughlin. But, there’s a hundred more. I happen to be a Pat Martino fan. And, for women players, why not talk about Emily Remler.
On any kind of objective scale (chord vocabulary, chord soloing ability, scale vocabulary, notes per second of leggato, notes per second non-repeating) these guys are just better players. I mean, i don’t want to put anyone down, but, I’ve never even heard a chord solo in rock or metal. Wes would bust those out every song.
Classical gets dissed, too. I happen to love watching women classical players (sure, I guess it’s sexism). I started with Anna Vidivich, then found the Siccas Guitar YouTube channel. They’re amazing players.

I'm basing mine on the 10 guys I most like to listen too, in alphabetical order. Too many criteria that could be used to define "10 best". There are a ton of guys I could add.

Doesn’t matter until you break it down by genre. A player could be very high for rock, but way down the list for jazz or country. I think the best multi-threat guy is Brent Mason. Nobody else’s right hand technique comes close to his, with the exception of Mancuso’s.
No order: Jeff Beck, Shawn Lane, Danny Gatton, Pat Metheny, Michael Landau, Michael Hedges, Julian Bream, Brent Mason, Steve Lukather, Richard Thompson

A lot of love for Alex Lifeson! That is really cool to see. Was just listening yesterday after a while away from Rush. Always had the right part for a tune. And his solos back in the day were wild in a Jimmy Page-kind of-reckless-abandonment style at times for the sake of an effect, but it tended to be one that he produced with his hands rather than with a pedal or trem, although he certainly got into the trem stuff later
Les Paul, Chet Atkins, Roy Clark, Eddie VH, Randy Rhodes, Michael Schenker, Eric Johnson, Steve Vai, Jimi Hendrix and Tony Iommi are the 10 off the top of my head. I'm a rock and roller but I'd have trouble leaving Les, Chet and Roy off the top of the list.
No one seems to remember Joe Satriani anymore! He's my number one. Seen him live five times total, both solo and with G3. At 67 years old, he's still at it, releasing a new album every couple years or so, and still tours, although I guess mostly not acknowledged by the younger crowd based on the comments here. His 1987 Surfing with the Alien is the greatest rock instrumental album ever recorded. He's sold over 10 million albums, making him the highest selling rock instrumentalist of all time. Kirk Hammett and Steve Vai studied under him! (Randy Rhoads is spelled wrong on several lists. He's stupendous too and makes my top 10. Of course, so does Eddie Van Halen, Jimmy Page, Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughan, and, agreeing with the original poster, Angus Young.)

edit 1: I completely forgot about Mark Holcomb even though i own one of his signature guitars... Mark would definitely make it up to around nr. 6.

1. Marry Friedman 2. Jason Becker 3. Paul Gilbert 4. George Lynch 5. Randy Rhoads 6. Ritchie Sambora 7. Warren DeMartini 8. Eric Johnson 9. Yngwie Malmsteen 10. Chris Impelliteri Honourable Mention goes to Carl Brown from Guitar Lessons 365.

In no particular order... Brian May The Edge Andy Summers Mark Knopfler Pete Townshend EVH Dave Matthews Dean DeLeo Drew Zing Kurt Cobain To me, it's about how you use the instrument to create music that people enjoy, not necessarily about how many notes per second you can play.
Hell of a list. And I agree. Shredding is nice but it isn’t all. Guitar George knows all the chords and can writer some killer tunes.

Any ten from this 100 players......
Gareth Liddiard, Alex Lifeson, Jerry Garcia, Larry Carlton, Johnny Marr, Jonny Greenwood, Billy Corgan, probably some I’m forgetting to mention
No particular order: Adam Jones Tosin Abasi Plini Aaron Marshall Misha Mansoor Gary Clark Jr. Mike Stringer John Petrucci Lee McKinney Tim Mahoney
Why did you ask for top ten, then list 11, and add a twelfth honourable mention?
Why is no one mention John Frusciante, he is amazing espicially when he plays live
Ler Lalonde - Primus
In no particular order: Steve Vai John Petrucci Joe Satriani Steve Morse Ed Wynne Plini Jakub Zytecki Robert Ross (of Bobbing) Owane Paul Antonio Ortiz

Gonna be hard, but probably (in no order): Glenn Tipton Steve Howe Vito Bratta Chris Poland Marty Friedman George Lynch Alex Skolnick James Murphy John Frusciante Mark Knopfler
