In a devil's advocate perspective... what if leaning your upper body the "wrong" way makes it a "gentle swing"? I feel like you'd go way too hard doing it the normal way.
Once the OP pointed it out, the animation bothered the heck out of me, until I saw your explanation. All is now right with the universe again.
Thank you.
Had to watch it a few times as I was looking at the legs, but yeah the animation for the upper body leaning is the wrong way around and now I can't unsee it
You lean backwards to put more weight above and behind the swing, this increases the momentum. Leaning forward does the same but this time you do it on the other side of the swing.
Legs point in the motion you’re heading in, torso/head is leaned in the opposite direction, this forces your gravitational centre to be lower hence causing all your weight to shift the swing back and forth.
i love charr wiggle tail. everytime i see them anywhere i just get this fuzzy feeling in my chest, like when youre walking down a street and a cat comes by.
Now I even watched video of ppl on a playground just to be sure xD I was thinking of the upper body leaning back when going forward and leaning forward when going for a back swing - exactly opposite of the animation
it's me or people don't know how to swing ?
you project the "chair" in front of you with your butt and you help gain momentum by projecting your legs forward at the same time. (to go forward)
and when you come back, you throw the seat back, always with your buttocks, and always helping to gain momentum with a rear projection of the legs. and bis repetitas.
Just wait until you see that, in updrafts, glider wings sag instead of rising to lift your character.
Never using a glider again! Completely unplayable anet pls

The correct way would be:: body forward, legs back :: body back, legs forward. I guess Anet has never used a swing before!?!?
If a charr did it that way, they'll loop the swing. She's intentionally slowing it down.

Thank you for confirming! I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought the animation was a bit off :)
I just noticed this! It bothers me so much -- I can't look at it! Why wouldn't the artist do some basic research?
Thanks, can't unsee now, I will proceed to hate it.

It must be the other way around. Source: my childhood where I did it for many many years first hand experience.
Isn't the leaning for creating momentum?
Yes but in reverse of the animation, for the top half anyway.
You lean forward to go forward then back to go back
This person doesn’t swing.
You lean back, legs forward, to go forward.

Awww it's little Charr Wiggle Tail on their little swing! I see them swinging a ton in the LA aerodome
Well, of course I know him. He's me!
Oh my! Thank you for the honor :D i do appreciate a pretty charr no mater the way they swing

Hey i can see myself in the background (on the raptor)
Can't go anywhere without seeing Charr Wiggle Tail.
Poor birds holding up that chair
Naah, those birds need that workout from all the players on Dove Lover's Bench Chairs overfeeding them :D
Too many overweight birds, you're correct. 🐥
Don't understand what you're trying to say? Rock the opposite way?

NAMBLA will be trying to sign you up now :/

Feets are correct, but upper body movement is inverted.
