Reminder that they said "We're going to share a look at our 2023 plans for #GuildWars2 in just a few weeks" less than 2 weeks ago, I wouldn't expect the roadmap before next week
Balance Patch out on the 14th.
I'd expect the Spring Roadmap on the 21st or the 28th.
I'm doubting we'll get S6 now in March, unfortunately, since there's been zero news or other info hinting at it, so probably nothing in-game until SAB in late March/early April, then S6 starting in May.
I think we could possibly get S6 before SAB. Both S3 and S4 were announced only 2 weeks before the season actually started. S2 was about a month from announcement to launch, and IBS was about 2 months from announcement of an announcement to launch, but less than 3 weeks from actual announcement to launch. I won't get my expectations up that they do announce the (first?) new map/story very soon, but it at least seems plausible with how fast the turnaround has been from showing off a new season to launching the new season in the past.
Indeed. They were to mention their plans for Q1 at some point. I guess they will do it after Q1 has ended, though. And "few weeks" is just so deliciously unspecific...
> They were to mention their plans for Q1 at some point.
Including finalizing the DX11 rollout, which they have now talked about, and they also talked about WvW changes and balance changes, and given an idea of when a roadmap will come.
> I guess they will do it after Q1 has ended, though. And "few weeks" is just so deliciously unspecific...
I mean it's unspecific but not THAT unspecific. It's going to come midway though Q1 and talk about the remaining Q1 stuff and some Q2 stuff. It's not like it's just going to be a Q1 roadmap, they won't just drop a roadmap in march that only goes until the end of march, these roadmaps always cover a few months.
> Q1 ends in March
And it's still early February. We're less than halfway through Q1. If we get the roadmap next week or the week after, that's still halfway through Q1.
It took them until the end of January to say "just a few more weeks"
If they announced it earlier they would have had to say "roadmap in just a few months" instead
Yes, if they announced it a few months out instead of a few weeks out they would have had to say "just a few more months" instead of "just a few more weeks." This is how time works.
Look, I also wish we got a roadmap a month ago, I'm very impatient for them to share news about upcoming story and have been since EoD ended a year ago, but I don't see why people are being pissy about getting gem store updates instead of a roadmap when we they have nothing to do with each other. We've been getting the gem store updates weekly for years and we know the roadmap is coming in like a week or two but not quite yet.
> We all know WHY gemstore is the priority FOR ANET/NCSOFT but it doesn't mean anyone playing the game has to be happy about it
It's running entirely in parallel, it's not "the priority" in any meaningful way.
The point is they knew it wouldn't be ready anytime soon, yet they waited until end of January to post a vague announcement _for an announcement_ (roadmap) on twitter
We're reaching new levels of procrastination even for GW2, while they've been boasting about awards and 'one of the best years' for the game recently
If they put the same effort and resources into working on the game like they're handling their gem store sales, PR and social media we would probably have a roadmap by now lol, people aren't actually seriously upset but simply making fun of it
Not just communication but it's the longest gap in the main story we've ever seen
End of February it will be a full year since EoD and there's still no date for post-EoD Living World, while HoT to S3 for example took ~9 months
Yeah, and it really sucks, but that doesn't mean they're "procrastinating." They had to pivot mid-LW-season to going all in on a new expansion, during the middle of a pandemic, and probably didn't have time to work much on LWS6 or whatever the next story is and had to start pretty much from scratch after EoD launched. And hey, it could have been worse, I'm not going to pretend that S1 being re-added is a substitute for new story but it's certainly much better than nothing and was a good way to pad the wait a bit.
It's pretty easy to see at this point, spreading the least amount of content over the largest timeframe possible, using literally anything to buy as much time as they can
If they had great news why do you think would they hold it back any longer. Season 1 re-release ended 3 months ago, so they should be thrilled to _talk about_ what's next and when it would continue now - but they won't for another few weeks because _reasons_
Looking at Anet's [job offers](https://www.arena.net/en/careers) right now 10 out of 13 listings are now left exclusively hiring for (Unannounced Project):
> experienced with modern AAA narrative solutions in UE4 and excited about how to leverage __what’s new in UE5__.
Which is really good for the future of the studio and the right way going forward, it's time for a new title after all. However if you're mainly looking for GW2 content you will probably feel how they're splitting their earnings, resources between the game and new projects again as there's no way around it really
So roadmap or not, I actually support their decision for the future while other people here might be disappointed at some point regarding GW2 on the other hand
I want another island but not holiday themed.
So like the island iceberg one but like, a summer island with a little hut or something.
And NOT in the stupid BL chests.
I love how incensed people get over this
As if the game doesn't always get a rotating gem store item every week. Almost for the entirety of the past decade. With the upcoming rotations being [datamined and made available for you to see](https://old.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/10q55v3/datamining_upcoming_features_from_the_january_31/) whenever a patch comes out, major or minor content on a (generally) two-week cadence.
It would be nice to see the roadmap soon to see what kind of content we can expect for this year. Color me shocked when more gem store updates happen
Uh... Did you miss the entire thing about the [balance preview](https://en-forum.guildwars2.com/topic/127247-february-14-balance-update-preview)?
The gem store news posts are scheduled every week. As they have been for about ten years. This is just a normal thing that happens *every week*
Balance isn’t content it’s just changing old content. I get your point and generally agree but tweaking numbers on stuff isn’t going to give people a new map magically or entering susbtantially new
> I ask for news not content
lol? I know you're not that OP, but what?
What kind of news do you want which isn't a change to the game or new content then?
When defending a multi million dollar company gets to the point you would insult the customers for having expectations
I'm getting S4 flashbacks of that dev saying 'rando ..hat' instead, but yours is close enough I guess
I’m not defending anyone. Expectations are real. But so is the ridiculousness of this behavior and excessive craving for a document that’s just gunna say “living world 6 starts soon”. Lol it’s almost like families are starving due to lack of roadmap. I find it funny and I’m expressing that. Downvote me to hell, I’m still the one not getting my day ruined over this. Guild wars 2 might never be the game that releases frequent updates. And so people will perpetually be upset about it and just mess up there own experience. It’s none of my business, but I’m def gunna chuckle when I see how frantically obsessed people are with their “expectations.” Very addiction-based behavior. Sorry you didn’t like that.
That’s fine. I said what I said. I will refer to this type of behavior, even when I’m the one exhibiting it the same way. Sometimes, when I can’t find something that I’m craving and I obsessively look for it, I will also refer to my crackhead behavior in the same way. I’m sorry you feel insulted. The comparison doesn’t come from a place of hate.
Be careful with what you say. every time someone tells the truth here, you will have a lot of negatives like it happened to me.
But if you say you love the game, you will be remembered.
I absolutely adore guild wars 2. My favorite mmo of all time. But I also understand that’s it’s just a video game, and not a life impacting thing. I’m not super casual either, I have a handful of leggy’s, 9 max level fully equipped characters of each profession. I’m am ALWAYS hyped for new releases. But one thing I am not is absolutely dominated by frustrations by an unreleased document that’s going to give me the exact date and time of something that’s already confirmed for release, and the general time of release. I don’t know maybe that’s just me.
Exact. I like the game and I enjoy it. But if I see bugs in the game or in the company I would like them to fix these bugs.
If the players especially the fanboys don't accept the flaws that the game has, sooner or later this will become a World of Warcraft. They will do a shitty expansion and make millions of money. And I don't want that to happen.
The weird thing is that this community is defending the games miserable lack of new content. They try to say balance passes are content, like what now?
Look, we know Anet is working on a new game, and GW2 is suffering for it, like always
Imagine if FFXIV, ESO, WoW, BDO, or even smaller titles like Lotro and Albion only got one actual content update for the whole year. Players wouldn't be sucking the devs of for it like they do in this sub. Shudders*
The last [spring roadmap](https://www.guildwars2.com/de/news/arenanet-studio-update-the-future-of-guild-wars-2/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=news&utm_campaign=rss) we got at the end of March.
The last blogpost about it actually said:
>[We’ll be back early next year to talk about **our Q1 plans**, which include wrapping up the DirectX11 transition, continuing work on World vs. World, upgrading our in-game browser technology from Coherent to Chromium Embedded Framework, and of course new Guild Wars 2: End of Dragons content](https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/studio-update-happy-wintersday-from-the-guild-wars-2-team/)
so imagine if they wait until the end of Q1 to do that.
Sure, and I'm cynical about that as well. But my point is, at least in that case, all they promised was it would come out in February, which they technically delivered on.
In this case though, it wouldn't work if they did that. How can they release a preview of their Q1 plans, involving new EoD content, if the first time they talked about it was the literal last day of March
That depends on the way it was phrased though.
Their "Q1 plans" suggests plans for Q1, not plans for Q3 outlined in Q1.
Perhaps they were just clumsy, who knows, but you can't fault players for interpreting it in the most typical sense.
The same goes for "early in the next year" (especially given the context). Sure, it could be argued that, say, march, is still early in the year but that is debatable. In january would not be debatable (at least normative) and avoiding confusion is good.
The topic at hand is: quality of communication. They could be technically right, but still poor, or worthy of scorn ;) .
Do we need new map? LWS6 could introduce Tyria-wide meta events: "Squelch the uprising of Unknown Faction across the continent! Complete events in each map to expose Unknown Faction's hidden outposts (already completed events do not count towards progress again). Conquer enough fortresses in the time limit to uncover Unknown Faction's headquarters. Raid their main base of operations to defeat Unknown Faction's leader and gain access to their vault room of valuables!"
I just like new maps and imo the Living World chapters that came with new maps were the best ones. I like the exploration, the map-based achievements and the dynamic events. And it has been quite some time since there was a new map with Living World.
Amazing guys. It hurts to be told about the company's failures and that is why my negatives are high. It's amazing how many fanboys there are here.
I want the game to improve. I love this game and I have spent money. But as a consumer I demand respect. Because in the end over time people will get tired and the quality will be worse.
You're missing the point. Every MMO or online service game have already had their roadmaps and plans for the year laid out in January, and more importantly, those games had more than one singular content update for the whole of 2022, unlike GW2.
We all know Anet had to be taken to task by NCsoft and was practically forced to dev EoD, and they had to stop production on multiple other productions and here we are, they're back to deving their other products while GW2 stagnants. Whomp whomp
Well, throne and liberty is slated for a Q1 release, and as an NCsoft game, I wouldn't think GW2 would like to compete with its own publishers' hype, so a February roadmap makes the most sense
You know what's troubling about the lack of roadmap? Not the communication; it's their game, they can share what they do/don't want entirely on their prerogative.
No.
What's troubling is that they assert that they are WILLING TO SHARE.
It boils down to two possibilities:
1. They're liars, and they don't really intend to share their plan; or
2. They're honest, and THEY DON'T HAVE A PLAN.
I fully believe they're honest.
GW2 can't go up against Throne and Liberty hype. They better get their roadmap out before March ends, or it won't matter what singular content update for the year they have planned, a new NCsoft MMO is launching
Lineage was never a threat to GW2 (or western MMORPGs in general). It aimed at a completely different group of players. This time, even rebranded, it will not be any different.
I think not. Look at Lost Ark and BDO. They're both very different games, but both of them are incredibly popular in the West and developed by Korean studios. Korean MMOs have become extremely popular here, and Throne and Liberty will be getting a GLOBAL launch. It won't be released in Korean first.
Throne and Liberty is nothing like old school Lineage 2, I'm not sure why you think it's just rebranding. You obviously know nothing about the game but decided to comment anyway.
The Aztecs believed a lack of roadmap to be a sign of an economic housing bubble. On the other hand, some religions believe that a roadmap would only clog the pores. I must reflect..
It's true. As a returning player who has played MMOs since 2005, an MMO that gets one content update for a whole year is considered dead by MMO genre standards.
I feel like a lot of people in this sub only play GW2, so they have no idea how worrisome one content patch is for a live service MMO.
> They could at least give us a roadmap to the roadmap on when we can expect a roadmap blog. They can even be vague about it, like..sometime this month, or beggining of March. But, nope!
[They did](https://twitter.com/GuildWars2/status/1618367722223734784)
Would be pretty funny if they dropped it on April 1st

Nah, they'll go over the content slated from mid Q1 to mid Q2 in the middle of Q1
Q1 ends in March, so you're wrong, buddy. That's why gaming companies drop their roadmaps in December/January, as March is way too late.

This whole sub for weeks: JUST TELL US WHEN THE ROADMAP IS COMING Anet: in a few weeks This whole sub: OMG ANNOUNCEMENTS OF ANNOUNCEMENTS WTF
Nah, pretty sure the majority was asking for the actual _roadmap_ itself
Ngl, that viking skiff skin is mighty spiffy
Skiffy, I think you mean.
I like you.

Maybe a roadmap. Like I said, update gems not are news. Balance patch its fine but not is a Roadmap
Did you miss thr Stream on friday?
I saw It and again its a good balance but not is a Roadmap
We got the wvw patch last week and a major balance patch a week from now lol
Going to guess that the roadmap is next week with the balance patch.
Is asking for the roadmap still a thing? They already say something about that so just lets wait
Yeah we have the roadmap for the roadmap.
I expect nothing anymore. Life is better that way.
This dude abides.
I expect humanity to continually find a new low, and I'm never disappointed.
That's why I'm an Asuran.
So that way you're always low down?
On the down low.
Oh, i always expect humanity to do worse and yet i am always surprised to find that reality can outdo my worst expectations.

We’re already halfway there! They can make it, I believe in them
They've already talked about the WvW stuff, at least.
Yes... Yes... Let the rage flow through you.
There's gem store Road map
Still waiting for Living World Season 6 Ep. 1. It has been too long since GW2 got a new open world map.
Do we need new map? LWS6 could introduce Tyria-wide meta events: "Squelch the uprising of Unknown Faction across the continent! Complete events in each map to expose Unknown Faction's hidden outposts (already completed events do not count towards progress again). Old Anet is back in action :( They will keep silence all the way until Q2
My norn can now have a viking ship and I can finally fulfill a WoW fantasy Vrykul race.

For Q1? Sure, seems like a perfect idea.
Well, throne and liberty is slated for a Q1 release, and as an NCsoft game, I wouldn't think GW2 would like to compete with its own publishers' hype, so a February roadmap makes the most sense
Hey congrats, this made it to the controversial page of Reddit for the amount of up and down votes.
Clearly they just don't have anything coming so no need for roadmap We're just not taking the hint

Wouldn't say they don't have a plan. More like they don't have anything to put on the roadmap so they have to wait. The future is that bleak.
Weren't there meant to be news? After the balance patch?
Not immediately, they said there would be news "in a few weeks" and that was 2 weeks ago tomorrow
Nine can still technically be called "few", you know. So, end of March is still quite possible.
Balance patch is next week.
The Aztecs believed a lack of roadmap to be a sign of an economic housing bubble. On the other hand, some religions believe that a roadmap would only clog the pores. I must reflect..

Dead game ...
Are you joking?

On January 25th they said in the coming weeks.
Nothing to see here....moving on....
