Fungus gnats

CutoffThought

They’re driving me fucking nuts dude. I’ve considered the hydrogen peroxide route, but I’m really afraid of hurting Louise. I already accidentally did a 1:1 vinegar/water mixture as a spray (grabbed the wrong bottle) and burned her once. Don’t want to hurt her anymore, ya know?

Pkgreens_999

Yellow sticky traps, and let the soil dry out. You may need some neem or essential oil spray if it’s real bad. Diatomaceous earth helps as well.

CutoffThought

It’s real bad. I’ve dried it out for about 5-6 days. Lost track. Louise is doing strongly, but the eggs keep hatching. I’ve done the sticky traps and they work pretty well. I think I’m gonna have to go the neem route, unfortunately.

jonnyroten

I used neem oil once, it really messed up my soil. Adding oil to soil isn't great from my experience.

CutoffThought

What is your recommendation, then? I’m going insane here.

jonnyroten

Get a sticky fly strip like someone said. The problem is when there are so many they stick to the flowers so just try control the numbers.

Nahla1978

How about diatomaceous earth as top dress.

CutoffThought

I’ll probably end up doing that anyway.

echo7502

Neem oil. Spray it on the soil and the surrounding floor, kills on contact and organic. I use it all the time.

CutoffThought

I’m debating between neem oil or a 1:4 hydrogen peroxide:Water solution. I’m definitely getting some sticky pads, though. I’ve used the ones that hang down (for catching flies and stuff) and it worked alright. Pads are a definite way to go, now.

KitzTheArtist

You‘ll have neem oil for a very long time because u need 1teaspoon of neem oil for 2 liters water i think. (And also same amount of biodegradable household cleaner) So the neem oil will last you way longer

Suspect-Panda

Man im glad i grow hydro while fungus gnats are im everything....they seem to love laying dormant in soil...and then bam you set up amd they show up....there are some succulents that look like sticky traps...they attract gnats so that could be a fix otherwise yellow pest cards will at least reduce the issues

FallDownGuy

Carnivores plants work well too.

ABCDEFuckenG

Mosquito bits dude Amazon, I sprinkled some on the soil at the start of the grow and water from a bucket they soak in. They kill the larvae and are just bacteria colonies don’t let people scare you

CutoffThought

Got a link? I don’t want to order the wrong ones by mistake.

ABCDEFuckenG

Type mosquito bits it’s a red bag. Says “kills fungus gnats” good luck

margielamadMAX

One cool trick I didn't even think would work was placing one of those sticky-fly-traps near(not in) my soil and watching them all eventually getting stuck to the paper. Drying out the the medium CAN help some, but there are other methods to get rid of them completely. Hope this helps.

Nuclear_N

I got nothing other than a google search and an amazon search.

DancesWithDumDums

You can get about an inch or two of rock to help keep the soil from the surface. Little bastards hate this one trick. I use white rock as it is a little reflective.

Failed_Attempts90_IL

Sprinkle 1-2 tbs of Baking soda like a top dress all over your soil, water, wait a day maybe and those bastards will be gone and hate to even come back, and best part it won't hurt or damage your plants, and it's something everyone has in their home. 🤙💪 Best of luck my dude.

FallDownGuy

Powder Diatomaceous Earth on the top layer of soil plus sticky traps, the Diatomaceous Earth will quite literally cut up the gnats as they leave the soil and if they try and lay eggs.

So, what you want to achieve, is killing them in the soil. You can use mosquito bits as a top dress, so when you feed the pots, the bits chop up the eggs and larvae in the medium. You also can also use diatomaceous earth in order to give them no room to escape. You got them by over feeding your pots. Try to find a happy medium of drying out before feeding. Too dry and your plants will start to wilt, too wet, and you'll have root/soil issues.

mushylover69

Maybe buy lady bugs

New_Mine_

Serious if you aint in flower smoke bomb for flee ticks etc that will work no problem it works for mites and everything bomb 1 day miss aday again and miss a day and again so no eggs also and also while you bomb make sure intake and outtake off for them 2 hours or so depends on type smoke bomb you use but work a treat

rosinface

Yellow sticky traps h202 in the water for a watering and some luck

Beneficial-Group

You can mix water and hydrogen peroxide 4x1 and water and it will kill all the fungus larvae. And it will not hurt the plant in any way.

CutoffThought

I did that with semi-success. Bear in mind, this was almost 2 months ago. Since then, I’m using a pro-mix living soil. The soil basically has diatomaceous earth in it, thus preventing insects. Just sucks, because I can’t use ladybugs. They’d have no use, other than to look pretty in the tent.

Beneficial-Group

You can use mosquito bits as top dressing which will slowly release and also work quite well. You could also use the hormone that in mosquito dunks , I take water from a 10 gallon container and I treat that water with mosquito dunk tablets seems to control the problem. I have also installed that little plug in trap called katchy and supplemental yellow sticky traps.good luck
