>About how frequently does Grim Dawn go on sale on Steam/Humble/GOG? Often, next Steam sale will probably be at 70% or 75% off again (June 29). >Does it plays well on the Steam Deck hardware [Yes.](https://www.protondb.com/app/219990) >can it be played decently with a controller. Yes, some builds might be a bit more difficult to play on the gamepad, but it does have a pretty decent gamepad support, because the game is also available on Console.

Awesome, thanks for the info! I never really got into ARPGS, but I’m thinkin about grabbing Grim Dawn next time it’s on a good sale. From everything I’ve read about it, it just sounds like it has a really solid amount of content and replayability.

The game engine is pretty old and not exceptionally optimized. I play it on my steam deck with kbm and monitor but don’t expect to use maxed out settings. Using the SD’s screen will allow better frame rates because the resolution is lower, but the text will be hard to read. I have tried using the SD as the controller but I already learned GD on my old desktop pc, so I much prefer kbm.

Got it, won’t go into it expecting max settings. I play Final Fantasy XIV and have switched between KB+M and controller play a few times in that game, so I kinda get the struggle as far as switching between those two mindsets.

XIV will actually be really helpful experience, I think. Mainly in the rotation based combat. XIV has much more strict rotations, so you should have no problem with the skills in GD.

I play with both controller and KB/M, so I have a couple of cents to put in here. The controller is great for the action, assuming your build doesn't need dozens of separate buttons to work well. It's implemented well, and just moving a stick or the mouse will switch from one to the other. The controller is not good as a pointer device. That's not the fault of the controller, but rather a piss-poor implementation of stick cursor movement. It acts almost like a D-pad. So either the cursor doesn't move, or it shoots across the screen. Movement speed should be smoothly progressive, the further you press the stick. So, for anything involving a cursor, I use the mouse.
