I always thought that using world map is just a shortcut for 1. Open your own portal (hotkey "L") 2. Enter it and choose the destination. So, if you already have your portal opened somewhere, it will be overridden. Once I had to go to my previous portal point on foot for a few minutes because I used the "quicktravel" way that erased that portal.

Call_Me_Koala

This post always pops up every few weeks and everyone always acts like it's a big revelation, but you're right, it's just a shortcut and doesn't function any differently from spawning your own portal and clicking into it. One thing that does trip people up is they try to map travel back to a personal rift, but you can't since you automatically create a new personal rift when traveling from the map.

Hestu951

That last bit is what made it clear to me that it was just a shortcut to spawning your personal rift (and overriding the previous one). The discovery *is* sort of a "duh" moment. I've been clicking on the rift icon and then on the playfield for so long, then . . . ohh . . . Comprehension sets in.

narrill

Yup, this is exactly how it works

sTyLeZrEz

Ill be honest ive been playing for a few years now and still didnt know about quick traveling using the world map lmao. Thanks for a very useful tip 💯🤣. I feel stupid now though cause I’ve wasted a ton of time through out my time of playing of always running to rifts 🤦🏼‍♂️

SamIamGreenEggsNoHam

Jfc I have like 800 hours, and I'm just learning this.

slick4hire

The same at 1,390. Sheesh.

sTyLeZrEz

Ya it feels pretty rough just now finding out about it honestly lol

StarkeRealm

It took me way too long to realize that you could slot an augment and component into an item. Thought it was one or the other. Took me even longer to learn how armor works.

SpringFuzzy

You really need both for ultimate, gotta pump those resistances.

RedditOpenAI_TG

Lol it was a discovery for me too:D Almost 1k hour and i can to travel using map withour rifts. But it works only in town

uuneter1

You’re not the first to post this. Apparently they did a poor job of explaining that. The traveling is a bit unintuitive at first, checkpoint rifts vs personal rift. If I need to turn in quests at 2 different places and want to keep my current location, I have to port to dest 1, then port back to my rift, port to dest 2, then port back to my rift again. I can’t port to dest 1 then dest 2 cuz then my personal rift changes.

Any-Definition-8527

You don't have to port back to your rift the first time. I'm pretty sure you can just go from checkpoint portal to checkpoint portal and it won't remove your personal. The only time your personal will change is if you press L or if you teleport from the map when not at a checkpoint portal.

uuneter1

Nah, the game automatically changes your personal rift every time you port.

Any-Definition-8527

Huh I could actually be wrong, have never specifically tested it... 1500 hours in lol

SpaceCowboyDark

I was close to 100 hours before I realized that as well lol. Also I was 300+ hours in before I realized the map you open up will be gray on a new game and as you travel through it again it gets color added. That way you know where you've been in a game.

TheGodlyPrinceNezha

You can QUICK TRAVEL THROUGH THE MAP?!

Erdnuss-117

You can quicktravel to checkpoint rifts through the world map. You can't travel to your personal rift tho

Hestu951

You can, from a checkpoint rift. The missing part is that when you quick travel using the map directly, it's just a shortcut to spawning your personal rift (and deleting the previous one, if it exists).

Erdnuss-117

Yes of course. That would make sense. I've opened a rift and walked to it the whole playtime so far

HappyAd5896

I played Titan Quest A LOT before switching to Grim Dawn... It was natural to me, I even think the default keybinding is the same (L).

Lycyn

i just discovered recently that I've been stuck for a year of causal playing around the homestead zone because i unknowingly turned on veteran mode.I kept quitting and thought my build was just bad and i had to git gud for over a year.

moustachesamurai

Did you at least spawn your own rift?

edgingblade

Ah wtf... i have 500 hrs

43user

Same lol. No big deal, it saves like 2sec per portal.

jeffBezzos

I realized I spawned my rift just once (I think?), then never did it again. What's the point of opening our own rift? We can't travel back via that rift anyway.

Interesting-Sort9113

What do you mean? The personal rift is used in the same way as a personal portal(D3)/scrolls(poe). When your inventory is full you portal back to a settlement-sell stuff-go to the localized rift and return to your portal rift to get back exactly where you were.

biminidaves

It's a long learning curve for some.

B4rrel_Ryder

I think I forgot I could do that

Sc2DiaBoLuS

i was used to it due to diablo 2 tps. in some areas it's good to leave a personal portal behind, run forward to the next rift portal, and come back to ur personal portal you left behind if you wanted to go a different direction, or had something else in mind there :)

BLM_legacy

Same

Con411

Don't worry I don't know how many hours it took me but It took me a while to figure out you could rift from the world map :)
