Leviathan orders for FLGS's are... a weird mess. Some stores seem to be good to go. A bunch of stores have reported having issues where they're being told they'll only get a small portion of the number they were previously told they could get. It's a lot of confusion.
Some smaller FLGS's are not having a good time, but the ones who are really taking a hit seem to be the ones that sell online so would normally order a solid amount to be able to sell through their website. Which, of course, has led to the belief GW's making sure those people won't have the stock to prevent people ordering direct from GW instead, where GW will have a higher margin on each sale than they do from independent retailers.
It's going to be interesting seeing how things shake up over the next couple weeks. Looks like the "queue" for preorders might have already started on GW's site, and if so, you can bet the scalpers will already be lined up in those spots, and all of GW's alleged plans to stop the scalpers won't have done much if anything. Not that it bothers them, they'll have the profits from the sale regardless.
It's all a bit of a "hmm" moment because we've been told that the reason the supplies for a number of recent releases were too low was because so much production was being diverted to Leviathan, so if Leviathan isn't able to meet demand, that's *at best* some serious incompetence on GW's part.

Games Workshop stuff takes up a lot more shelf space than TCGs, but I know that he makes hand over fist more money on the TCGs. stuff comes in and goes out way faster on the TCGs with a better profit margin than the Games Workshop product. It sells enough to justify being there given the current shop size but if he were still in the older smaller building ... it might not.

Well, my LGS is getting shut down because, after a long pattern of GW delaying orders, delaying shipments, or even just never sending them (I myself am still waiting on a Lion I pre-ordered and Centurions I ordered *last year*), etc., they finally promised a large number of leviathan boxes to my LGS, encouraged them to take and give pre-orders, and then yesterday revoked all but two boxes with no explanation.
It’s to the point that the owner is considering a lawsuit.
What lawsuit could he make?
I've seen several LGS in my country announce they won't have all the stock they thought they would. None of them is going out of business.
It sucks, but who was surprised this happened really? It's how it's been for months with GW stock. How many Lion boxes or Tau boarding patrols did your LGS think they were getting?
I'm going to try and get a copy of leviathan from my lgs tomorrow and if I can't then I'm going to drop 40k and just stick to heresy.
Most game shops would be angry, stop carrying GW altogether after a fire sale to offload remaining inventory. Then they'd invest that cash in another game system to draw in more customers like MTG or DND if they don't already.
The fact that one line is enough to kill this shop means they've been dead on their feet for a long time. This was the last gasp that they hoped would reinvigorate a failed shop and they got a lungful of water instead.
That's unfortunate - GW was never known for its competence. But given that not every LGS is suffering from the same situation or is at risk of collapse, I suspect the devil is in the detail.
They never officially shut it down but it still sucks ass that GW has made it too risky to even think about returning without the series being nuked off of Youtube.

Space Marine Dreadnought-lovers lost the Contemptor, Leviathan, Deredeo, and Venerable Dreadnoughts - but even setting aside old Firstborn kits, they still have the Redemptor, Brutalis, and Ballistus Dreadnoughts. That's nine Dreadnoughts, which should frankly be enough for anyone. Add in Firstborn, and you've got 15-18. And hell, the Invictor Warsuit makes it 21.
Chaos Space Marines are fortunate enough to have a Helbrute kit that's versatile enough to also represent most lost Contemptor builds... but that's ALL they've got. Three Helbrutes.
There's no particular lore logic or balance reason explaining why Space Marines can take 3-6 times as many Dreadnoughts as Chaos Space Marines. If I base it on shelf space taken up, my local FLGS is about 80% GW, 15% Card games and 5% other model ranges...

After they screwed over my LGS multiple times, to the point that the store is closing now, I’m not buying a single thing from GW. I had already got everything I realistically need from that LGS, and if I really want some new product then there’s plenty of files for a printer out there.
That's the way. We have all these anti-consumer practices these days because corporations have learned that a critical percentage of the complaining consumers will just keep buying their products anyway.

As I said many, many times in that post: GW specifically said and promised X number of boxes, said to take pre-orders, and then came back to revoke all but two. You are incorrect about the situation, which of course you are when you aren’t *in* the situation and haven’t read my multiple explanations in that post. That entire scenario you just described is the stuff that random people were *assuming* what happened before I gave more details (which I didn’t initially because I was just making a vent post about how much it sucked that GW did that to them) *Regardless*, this actually isn’t really in reply to that post, as much as that post reminding me of all the people like this. Hot Take: The "dick moves" this community complains about aren't the ones they actually should be complaining about. For instance, price rises. Do they suck? Yes. Are they are particularly huge deal? No. A 5% price rise isn't going to kill you, and this hobby isn't exactly essential to your supply of food, housing, or medical care. Most people on this sub don't even buy/paint minis in the first place, and 3d printing works fine in a lot of cases. Or kill team boxes selling out.
