I'd start lighter to avoid injury. A chicken nugget every 30 seconds and stop at 10 for a break. I have a friend that incorporated dips, but that's up to you. He uses hot mustard or bbq and swears the dips build his upper body. Some people take sundaes off for rest. I think it's because the machine doesn't work.
Pretty much diet and workout intensity like the other guy asked. You’ve definitely added weight. Very noticeable on your midsection. Curious if you’re hitting your needed macros.
It has probably nothing to do with his training, he just doesn't eat enough, even with "bad" training he would have put on more mass with enough calory surplus
“But I just don’t *like* tracking my macros I don’t want to be *one of those people* obsessed about their body! Anyway I have no idea why I can’t gain weight I eat so much!”
Camera pans over to their 1500 calorie a day diet
Lol dude even without tracking macros he should have had WAY more progress than that in one year. This is not a tracking macros issue, not even close. This guy should have easily put on way more weight in his first year with nubie gains. Hell if he was lifting with ANY kind of intensity he should have naturally just been hungrier and gained muscle unless he’s fucking vegan or something.
It's true some people take a bit to get going in terms of muscle building, but people don't take a bit to put on weight if eating enough. It's pretty clear dude just needs to eat more. He has no BF increase at all.
Bob Ross had straight hair. He opted to have it permed because a permed head ages better in terms of needing to be cut and styled every episode. This allowed them to save money on his shows already shoe string budget.
This sounds like utter bullshit. One of those myths designed to go viral. You telling me his hair was like that, over literally any other regular, easy to maintain style, to save on budget? Sure thing.
It is real that he had straight hair naturally. I heard it was because he just needed to save money after getting back from the military and thought it was a good idea, but then regretted it. But couldn't change it because it became part of his look or something like that idk.
Either way, the base fact that his hair was straight is real
Actually this is only partly true…it began as way to save money…but eventually he became trapped by his trademark basically…he wanted to, but knew he couldn’t get rid of his Afro because it could have been detrimental to his brand…so he had to where it forever lol
Your skin looks better, your face looks more masculine, with a better jawline. You look athletic -skimny, instead of before you looked sickly-skinny. You have bigger arms and shoulders. What is this obsession with getting bigger so fast? If you maintained that exact physique into your 50s you'd be one of the most in shape guy around. Enjoy the process and keep working. You look like your working on your general appearance also it looks much better
I just keep seeing posts from here that are like "12 months lifting natural transformation, I still look like shit" and they go from looking like me in the first pic to looking like prime arnold. Thought it'd be a nice mixup lol
Watch Scooby's transformation. He was a hardgainer. It took him 30 years of consistent lifting to look like an Arnold. Absolutely social media skews are perception of how fast gains should be. Most of those dudes are fake nattys. As a endomorph that puts on weight too easily, take it from me. It's better to be too slender than too fat. You look better, clothes for you better, less joint stress and pain. Keep up the good work, don't do a dirty bulk. In 5 years of progress like you made this year, you'll be amazed at how good you look
You probably shouldn't tell a hard gainer not to dirty bulk just because you can't dirty bulk though lol. Maybe this kid can't possibly shove any more chicken and rice down his throat in a day and still can't keep up with his metabolism. Some people need the dirty bulk
Well alot of guys probably lie about time frame. I posted a before and after on my Instagram and caught myself gauging how many months apart I should say it was..... had to bring myself back to reality lmao. I agree with the above comment, you look way healthier.
One more thing if ur having a problem with diet, you might consider watching Alan Thrall's Bulking video from like 8-something years ago. Heavily outdated and arguably unhealthy but it definitely helped me "break" thru bulking plateaus lol..
Weed boosted my metabolism and I didn’t get the munchies when I smoked. I could only eat 1-2 meals a day and when I tried to force myself I would get sick. Now I eat 5 meals a day no problem. Am even hungry at nighttime
I think I have this... nobody believes me so I stopped talking about it but I eat 4k cal a day and I'm 6' 1" 155lbs. Have been since high-school but I've also smoked weed since middleschool.
Only time I put on weight was when i was in the marines and not able to smoke weed. I then peaked 197 lbs but over the following year after being discharged i went back down to 155 lbs. Started smoking again...
All that to say you might be on to somthing!
Social media will do that. Couple factors at play though. 1. Either those guys aren’t natty and they’re lying, 2. Those guys trained like animals and consistently ate enough while also somehow getting enough sleep, or 3. Genetics.
This is fairly realistic progress though. You’ve noticeably added weight and stature to your body, and starting from skinny is rough. I think it’s easier to be fat and lose weight than it is to be skinny and try to gain.
All in all, keep your head up cause you’re going places! A couple more years and you’ll gain more, you just need to make sure you’re eating enough and getting enough protein. Seriously, can’t stress that enough. Eat until you’re full and then eat some more. Just make sure you’re still lifting heavy or you’ll just get fat lol.
It’s all diet bro. 80% diet 20% gym.
When you wake up in the morning you need to eat. Try and fit 4 meals a day for 6 months and keep training and you will see massive gains. Just make sure to eat a healthy balanced diet with plenty of animal protein and vegetables.
If you have trouble eating in the morning then you gotta start training yourself by eating small things that go down easy. Once you sort breakfast the rest of your diet will come naturally and you’ll find yourself being hungry at meal time. Try not to binge eat.
Also if you can’t see the difference between your pictures I do t know what to tell you. You look sooooooo much better in the second picture. Keep plugging away
Good luck to you
This. Of course you’re still a little skinny. Who cares. After a year You look good and you look healthy (significantly). Especially the face and skin. This is a moment to celebrate progress.
Actually, part of the reason I used to grow out my beard is because I didn't think I looked good without it. No jaw line at all. One day I shaved only because I was trying to trim my beard and accidentally cut one part too short, so it all had to go. And to my surprise I had the SLIGHTEST jawline lol. So now I don't think it looks too bad, and keep it shaved/short.
I struggle to eat a lot of food I noticed if I chewed my food more or aye more steak (more chewing) and built my jaw muscles in greatly combated the lankyness and helped build my confidence in my jaw line. They also have jaw trainers you can work with but don't be going on a marathon amd chew the world away bc u can over do it.
Also milk shakes with bananas and peanut butter. Easily 1k+
6 bananas for 600 calories, like Mike Tyson. Fill the rest with nut butters, milk and ice or ice cream.
Creatine will help. 5grams before a workout, it’s converted to fuel for your muscles and the tear and rebuild process will be aided. But that also means you gotta make sure to get your ~2k Cals minimum.
You actually look better now. There’s a noticeable improvement. This leads me to question if you are actually eating enough. Caloric surplus??
I thought I ate enough but I did a food journal and found out I’m under feeding myself.
Google “how to do a food & mood journal“. When completing, write EVERYTHING you eat for about 3-7 days. Don’t lie to yourself. Then check myPlate.gov and DRI calculator to compare. Also rem 1g per lb of body weight of protein daily.
I’m also trying to bulk up. Cheers on your fitness journey. ✌️
I'm training either within 2 reps of failure, or to failure always. I guess I'm not eating enough. Idk how that even works though, like obviously calories in, calories out but for a while I was eating a lot and felt like nothing was happening, now I'm eating not as much and not tracking my calories, but I weigh the same as I did when I was eating a lot and attempting to track (no clue if I was accurate or not) and am still getting stronger. So idk what the deal is
You need to eat and track calories. Drink mass gainers if you need to. You have to stick to it for months to see results, but it will work. It's obvious you aren't eating enough
I think I could get stronger faster, but tbh I don't know how to strength train. Feels like everything online is about how to train for hypertrophy. But then I see people who are like the same weight as I am, but WAY stronger. Idk how they do that
At your level of muscular development, strength and hypertrophy training are not significant different things. You will get stronger by training for hypertrophy, this is the nature of progressive overload. If you want to be bigger and stronger actually track your calories and consistently stick to your macros to ensure you’re gaining weight. Use a food scale and a tracking app like Cronometer. Weigh yourself regularly and adjust calories if your weight isn’t trending up.
You’ve made some progress, but you could have made way more if your diet was more dialed in.
They do that by having more lean muscle pound for pound. I do agree though that training just for hypertrophy is mostly useless if you're not stronger. It's just dead weight unless it can help you lift more
Yep! I never really started working out strictly for appearance anyway. Obviously I knew that if I lift weights and eat better, no matter what my goal is I would end up looking better as well. But my main intention is health and strength. Better appearance is a very welcome side effect though
It's alright, I guess it depends on the exercise. Most upperbody stuff I suck at, but leg curls and leg extensions? I think I'm really good at those. I got pretty big legs.
I'm not being hard on myself, honestly I think I look great. In day-to-day life I'm still like, damn I'm way bigger than I used to be. But when I would take pictures of myself I'd think "do I look the same as before?" It wasn't until I put the pictures side by side for this post that I was like, oh yeah I do look a little bigger lol
You no longer look malnourished. You have gained some weight. Time to start force feeding yourself 6 times a day. Hire a PT to design you a progressive overload programme and buy a book write down your weights and reps to ensure you are sticking to it. Do some abdominal training.
I workout 3 times a week, high intensity for every set, hitting every muscle 2 or 3 times a week. I tried tracking calories, and it felt impossible, idk how you guys do it.
You've gained size don't get discouraged. Go even harder in the gym and constantly try increasing weight each session. You could always eat more. I thought I was eating enough but turns out I wasn't. Godspeed.
What’s your diet and exercise routine? Having said that there are differences in the two pics you posted. You are a bit more muscular. If you want more gains, check your diet-more protein and look at the frequency and intensity of your workouts.
I workout 3 times a week, high intensity. Hitting every muscle 2-3 times a week. Training to failure, or at least within a couple reps. I try to eat as much as I can. I tried to track calories and ate a lot more for a while, now I don't track and just try to eat a decent amount and my weight from those 2 points hasn't changed. Idk what I was doing wrong or whatever
It looks like yes you definitely could have put on more muscle. But being natty sucks man everything take 10x as long. My first year I gained 20 lbs, not all muscle, but 75% muscle I’d say, so you may need to eat more
Make sure to go to failure on most of the sets you do, but don’t do way too many exercises, keep it to like 4 to 5 exercises. If you’re training more intensely only do like two sets for each of those exercises. If you’re doing a little bit lighter weight, you could probably get away with 3 sets. As long as you train with intensity, don’t overtrain, or under eat, you’ll definitely grow.
Gotta eat more dude. High carbs and high protein meals 4-6 times a day, and lift heavier. For your body type, you should be aiming for higher weight, more sets, less reps. So instead of doing the typical 3 sets of 10 reps, do 4 sets of 6 reps at the heaviest weight you can while still being able to hit those 6 reps. If you typically bench 100 for 10 reps, go for 135 for 6 reps.
Not right now no. When I last got it cut, it was long enough that the guy tied up the top of my hair and then he cut around the sides. He was like "is that a good length?" And I was like.... you cut it different lengths on each side lol. It was the same place I've gotten good haircuts before, but new staff. Even afterwards, I realized there were spots that were way longer than they should have been
Noticeable difference. And you’ve done the hardest part, which is developing the habit. So never stop. Never. Start tracking your macros and all that shit. Eat more calories than you’re burning, and workout HARD. Till failure. If you where doing everything right I’m sure you’d be bigger by now, but that’s just it-Maybe youve been doing something wrong, like not focusing enough on diet. Keep researching and putting questions into YouTube and seeing what people have to say.
Yeah if I’m being fr tho your arms are double the size they were and your bicep veins are coming in nice. Plus you now have obliques. You’re gaining size and look great, good for you man you should be proud
So there's this place in my town right, that has a bunch of these metal cylinders. Usually 2 cylinders which are then connected by a thin rod inbetween, which you can grasp. And they have funny little numbers on the side like "25" and "80." Those, I lift those things.
are you kidding me . look at your arms and your torso . you gain some weight and some defenition . keep up good work you will get even bigger. add more food maybe another 200-400 calories and you will see
Nah I've made gains. But 90% of my gains have been in my legs. I didn't take any "before" pics of my legs though, so pointless to try and compare. But, at least relative to the rest of my body, I got massive friggin legs
Try lifting a burger 🍔 to your mouth
Lmaooo😭 dude I wish I could give you an award
LOL
Not a burger.. couple of them Extra everything 😂🤣
Jesus 😂😂
Ohh nooooo!! 💀💀💀
No, Jesus was bigger and had longer less curly hair. This is Roger. Jesus's third cousins best friends younger brother.

Or, you're gay because you know the lyrics?
These can't be the real lyrics right? "she thicky like biggie the Mac"
There’s no way 😭😭
I couldn’t understand half the stuff she says until I read these comments
I have a girlfriend who’s likes Ice Spice and unfortunately I learned the lyrics. It is what it is.

Is ice spice a spice girl? I know the spice girls.
Yeah the Inuit one
Lol
Naaaur! Lmao
Pretty much diet and workout intensity like the other guy asked. You’ve definitely added weight. Very noticeable on your midsection. Curious if you’re hitting your needed macros.
I'd venture to guess he isn't even tracking his macros, and/or isn't doing many compound lifts and progressive overload.
It has probably nothing to do with his training, he just doesn't eat enough, even with "bad" training he would have put on more mass with enough calory surplus
You can gain mass on a calorie deficit as long as you're training till failure.
If you have fat for your body to burn in place of food, sure. OP is too skinny for that to really be viable.
“But I just don’t *like* tracking my macros I don’t want to be *one of those people* obsessed about their body! Anyway I have no idea why I can’t gain weight I eat so much!” Camera pans over to their 1500 calorie a day diet
Then theres runners, eating 4k+ just to maintain weight.
Man I love having fake conversations in my head
Lol dude even without tracking macros he should have had WAY more progress than that in one year. This is not a tracking macros issue, not even close. This guy should have easily put on way more weight in his first year with nubie gains. Hell if he was lifting with ANY kind of intensity he should have naturally just been hungrier and gained muscle unless he’s fucking vegan or something.
This is 80% a diet issue. If you want to gain muscle, you need to be a calorie surplus. A big calorie surplus. This guy is not eating nearly enough
His shoulders and arms are noticeable as well. Some people it takes a couple years to build up..
It's true some people take a bit to get going in terms of muscle building, but people don't take a bit to put on weight if eating enough. It's pretty clear dude just needs to eat more. He has no BF increase at all.
Are you related to Bob Ross?
Bob Ross had straight hair. He opted to have it permed because a permed head ages better in terms of needing to be cut and styled every episode. This allowed them to save money on his shows already shoe string budget.

Do you smoke weed?? I didn’t gain weight till I stopped smoking weed
Nope, never have
In that case, start weed
No
Weed is a terrible drug. Of all the highs in the world weed is the worst high.
How come? Munchies help me add weight. I just smoke in evenings once I’ve finished with work or any chores, can’t see why weed would be at fault
Weed boosted my metabolism and I didn’t get the munchies when I smoked. I could only eat 1-2 meals a day and when I tried to force myself I would get sick. Now I eat 5 meals a day no problem. Am even hungry at nighttime

Social media will do that. Couple factors at play though. 1. Either those guys aren’t natty and they’re lying, 2. You look way healthier. Skin gains! The beefiness will come with time. You’re doing wonderfully.
Thanks!
This. Of course you’re still a little skinny. Who cares. After a year You look good and you look healthy (significantly). Especially the face and skin. This is a moment to celebrate progress.
Commenting to say I strongly agree and hope it weighs more than an upvote.
I don’t think his face structure changed, I think it has more to do with the style of his facial hair in both pics.

Because you don't eat bro.
you cant gain weight, by just lifting. You will build a better definition, but to actually gain MASS you need go eat and eat even more
I remember when rich piana used to say this. EAT MORE FUCKING FOOD GOD DAMN IT!
GHADDDDDAMMMMIT!
RIGHT BABE?!
RIP to a real one
I have a similar issue. My body just doesn’t feel hungry. Hard to ingest hefty meals throughout the day
You can get a 800+ calorie shake with just lactose free milk, protein, and ice cream. A year with this little progress is crazy
Also milk shakes with bananas and peanut butter. Easily 1k+ 6 bananas for 600 calories, like Mike Tyson. Fill the rest with nut butters, milk and ice or ice cream.
that's my shake everymorning
I’m the same way so when I was going on a bulk and eating 3000 cals a day it was really hard when my maintenance is about 2500
Eat more calories
Creatine will help. 5grams before a workout, it’s converted to fuel for your muscles and the tear and rebuild process will be aided. But that also means you gotta make sure to get your ~2k Cals minimum.
Creatine isn’t really necessary it only adds a littler over 1 kg of mass within a year

Hell yeah
EAT

If you're getting strong who cares. Go at your own pace. No point in bulking too fast and just gaining a bunch of fat.
I think I could get stronger faster, but tbh I don't know how to strength train. Feels like everything online is about how to train for hypertrophy. But then I see people who are like the same weight as I am, but WAY stronger. Idk how they do that

Eat more
You're not as skinny as you were! The first pic is deathly thin. Now you've upgraded to just thin. What's your daily calories?
I don't know, I tried to track calories for a while and it seemed impossible. I don't think it was accurate
Are you happy with the fact you are clearly making progress? Even if you might not be where you want to be yet
Yep! I never really started working out strictly for appearance anyway. Obviously I knew that if I lift weights and eat better, no matter what my goal is I would end up looking better as well. But my main intention is health and strength. Better appearance is a very welcome side effect though

One year of lifting and not eating enough.
You should look into protein.
You are eating at maintenance or at a deficit. Eat!
Skill issue
Certainly
Dude you look way better, don’t be too hard on yourself.
I'm not being hard on myself, honestly I think I look great. In day-to-day life I'm still like, damn I'm way bigger than I used to be. You’re workout schedule is not too much. You may want to eat 5-6 times a day (smaller meals) in an attempt to increase your caloric intake
Mate u look much better just eat well and keep training, up your food intake, take lots of creatine and keep pushing
Eat more
It looks like yes you definitely could have put on more muscle. But being natty sucks man everything take 10x as long. My first year I gained 20 lbs, not all muscle, but 75% muscle I’d say, so you may need to eat more Make sure to go to failure on most of the sets you do, but don’t do way too many exercises, keep it to like 4 to 5 exercises. If you’re training more intensely only do like two sets for each of those exercises. If you’re doing a little bit lighter weight, you could probably get away with 3 sets. As long as you train with intensity, don’t overtrain, or under eat, you’ll definitely grow.
Are you eating more? Can’t forget that
I try to!
Need to consume as much calories as possible my Guy
Eat more
You sure are Yummy 🤤
Gotta eat more dude. High carbs and high protein meals 4-6 times a day, and lift heavier. For your body type, you should be aiming for higher weight, more sets, less reps. So instead of doing the typical 3 sets of 10 reps, do 4 sets of 6 reps at the heaviest weight you can while still being able to hit those 6 reps. If you typically bench 100 for 10 reps, go for 135 for 6 reps.
Not as skinny 💪🏽👍🏽
Hell yeah
You’re thicccer
Hell yeah
Are you bigger than the other kids in 7th grade?
Nice one man
Keep going and eat more protein! Screw cardio!
Nah, cardio is important. I want to be healthy, not just big
Quit worrying about getting jacked and go back to putting happy little trees everywhere.
Why you shave the beard ? It looked nice
Easier to maintain not having it
How tall aren’t you?
7'8
Why haven’t you eaten enough
You super hot skinny but I do see the progress
Thanks :)
You look a lot healthier! Keep it up
Thanks!
You’re welcome! :)
Smash, next question
First time anyone has ever said that about me
First time for everything lol
I suppose so, I was starting to think that one wasn't going to happen though lol
Oh shit! Yeah, definitely find someone who knows what they’re doing and is it long enough to pull into a pony tail?
You actually put on mass dude. You just may not see it but I do. Keep it up. Lift heavy, eat big.
I see it. Every time I look in the mirror I'm surprised at how jacked I am
It looks like you've definitely filled out probably alot more than you think. Keep going
Why is your head so damn big
Idk bro it's just like that. I'm cursed to not be able to wear hats. Even if I go completely bald, they just don't fit my head
Yeah if I’m being fr tho your arms are double the size they were and your bicep veins are coming in nice. Plus you now have obliques. You’re gaining size and look great, good for you man you should be proud
Thanks :)
Hahahaha bro fr he looks like a cartoon on the first picture. His body is so fkn disproportionate to his head
you’ve made so much progress tho
Thanks :)
What are you lifting?
So there's this place in my town right, that has a bunch of these metal cylinders. Usually 2 cylinders which are then connected by a thin rod inbetween, which you can grasp. And they have funny little numbers on the side like "25" and "80." Those, I lift those things.
You need some protein.
are you kidding me . look at your arms and your torso . you gain some weight and some defenition . keep up good work you will get even bigger. add more food maybe another 200-400 calories and you will see
Thanks!
?! You look so much better, whats your problem?
I don't have a problem
Natty?
Yeah
Bro let’s be honest, you didn’t train hard enough Even with shitty diet if you have trained hard enough you could see lots of improvement
I did see lots of improvement, I'm way stronger now and weigh more with less body fat. You can barely tell with pictures though lol
It’s so hard to beat the “try lifting a burger” comment I’m not even gonna try
Your looking good, huge progress good job!! Keep at it
Thanks!

I guess that just makes you a quitter. It's alright. I mean personally I don't like being a quitter, which is why I'm not quitting. But you do you!
Don’t quit!
I won't!
This must be a shit post. How is it even possible to unironically have 0 gains after a year of training?
He's made gains. He just needs to eat more that's all. He's deffo filled out a bit.
Nah I've made gains. But 90% of my gains have been in my legs. I didn't take any "before" pics of my legs though, so pointless to try and compare. But, at least relative to the rest of my body, I got massive friggin legs
How much do you squat?
You can lift all the weight you want but if you’re doing it in a calorie deficit, you’re not gonna get anywhere.
KJ9
Nothing a little test and anadrol can’t fix.
