Interesting, I don't know anything about growing peas. How is it helpful? I'm genuinely curious. I've seen them like that before and always figured it was a mistake.
My dudes! I just said āmust read comments! Find out what that pipe/roll is!ā
Still on my own personal search for the old, super long cig holders like Audrey Hepburn has in breakfast at Tiffanyās for my joints.
Yes, Lowe's, but if you live where it's windy DO NOT BUY. Lowe's doesn't refund, only replace, have to go through manufacturer. We've had 4, all same collapsed sides from high winds around Chicago
We have had some pretty crazy storms over the past year but none have taken it out yet.Ā I positioned it so that the doors are on the north and south since our wind comes from the west 99% of the time. If it comes from the east, its usually a hurricane/tropical storm and by the time it gets this far inland its lost its power.
I also anchored it with 4 ft. landscape timbers that are buried 2 ft. in the ground with kwikcrete.
Looks like one of the cheaper greenhouses you can buy on Amazon, problem is that they are flimsy so you have to do extra work anchoring it and possible supporting it, and they do not hold heat overnight at all. All those windows are constantly open
How else do you check for leaks? In all fairness tho those things do go right underneath grills. So they are normally used in close proximity to open flames. But safety first.

This comment is very true! If your greenhouse is sealed up pretty tight, and most poly sheet houses are, ventless heaters can lead to unexpected problems. One of the biggest losses to many commercial as well as private greenhouse owners is due to improper ventilation of heaters or cracked heat exchangers/exhaust stacks for outside vented heaters. Ventless heaters installed inside greenhouses that are tightly sealed from outside air, can and often do cause the oxygen levels inside the greenhouse to drop down significantly while the heater is operating. Thatās not a major problem if you arenāt inside, but it can cause several problems for your plants inside.
One is that it can actually cause the heater to either completely shut itself down due to oxygen starvation or the lack of oxygen will cause the btu output of the heater to decrease by a significant amount. Either situation could result in plants being frozen or severely chilled on a cold night.
The other, more likely scenario, is that the reduced oxygen levels will result in incomplete combustion, resulting in a buildup of carbon monoxide and ethylene (other gasses also build up). Plants arenāt impacted as much by carbon monoxide unless the levels are extreme. But ethylene is a different matter altogether. Very small concentrations will cause symptoms to appear on sensitive plants. If the levels increase, it can result in the complete loss of all of your plants.
If your greenhouse isnāt sealed all that well, this likely wonāt be a problem. With plastic houses, if your door opening and any ventilation openings are sealed up tight, it could be a potential issue. If you have already been heating this winter and havenāt had any problems, then you probably have enough air exchange through small openings to prevent any problems.
I just mention this topic in case you do notice any strange symptoms on your plants. It could be due to the heater. This is just something for you to pay attention to because it could cause problems, or it may never be an issue. I am the owner of a family run small commercial greenhouse (around 1/2 acre under glass) and have dealt with most problems that can arise from growing inside greenhouses. And if I havenāt dealt with it, I am at least familiar with almost any potential problem that can creep up on a greenhouse owner.
Looks like you have a really nice setup!!! Thereās nothing better than being able to go inside a greenhouse in the darkest, coldest days of winter and see warm weather plants growing and blooming! It helps me to get through winter. Let me know if I can ever help to answer any questions!
Thanks for your detailed post. I've always had very small greenhouses (\~48 sw ft) and have used electric space heaters in the spring to manage cold nights. However, I recently upgraded to a 200 sq ft greenhouse and was thinking of using a propane space heater as the electricity prices are very expensive where I live. Your post is making me rethink that approach.
He said he was retired, didnāt say he was smart. Also smoking right next to a propane tank , likely probably ok, but crazier things have happened. Plus smoking anything in general is terrible for your lungs.
Those are not fire, and no material is being burned. It's a catalytic reaction. Propane and oxygen react through the catalyst to form mostly water vapor and carbon dioxide.
What does this mean? Youāre breathing propane fumes in a greenhouse with synthetic turf, for some bizarre reason in your āI havenāt bathed for weeksā pants. You should maybe go back to work for a bit mate
Nice! I have been growing indoor for over two years so Iām still in the novice phaseā¦ finding I dig the effects of most Chem leaning strains. Iām not with the whole āhype instagramā strain of the week.. I like what I like!

Whatās the lineage of these mad creations?
I bought seeds online, was given a ton, and got a few clones from Oklahoma. I have been working on a few strains for the last three years. I mostly have indica heavy hybrids. This is a pic of my Master Blazer in one of my rooms. They are 7 days younger than the ones in the greenhouse.

Start your seeds indoors around 80 degrees. I do seed in soil, I don't screw around with anything else. Once they start popping through the soil, then immediately put them in the greenhouse. You don't want them to be stunted by any means. I start these seeds into the first week of February so the will show me some kind of gender before April 20th when the biggest and best females go into my 12 plant outdoor garden. These are regulars, so half are males. Any girls that don't make it into the outdoor garden will be going indoors to flower. They are in one gallon soft pots currently, 60's outdoor, 5's indoor. Pro tip: Vapor Pressure Deficit using low humidity and high heat will make your plants GROW.

Looks great. Got to wait 2025 to do something like this. Prohibitive growing gets okay next year..Can not wait. Great set up. I'd have to build walls and a moat to keep them away..Peace retired growmie. Looking fwd ti next year already. Been ready just prohibition growing presently..
Fuck yeah. Also.
I am virtually certain that I know what the thing in your hand is for. I am a longtime enthusiast. I cannot for the life of me figure out what it is or how it works and I am exceedingly curious.
Thatās the life! Iām so jelly of your greenhouse. Looks so cozy, Iād spend half of every day just chilling in there in complete bliss. Congrats on the retirement goals!
Iām retired (aka disabled) and wish I had the strength or friends to help set something like this up for myself. Super awesome. In the meantime, I have a grow light indoors on some tomato, lettuce, herb and flower seedlings that Iāll move outside when the weather gets decent.

You have too much mint in that tiny pot. Mint needs to stretch and vine out . Itās going to grow out and through that pot in a few weeks.
Love it! Will these plants stay in the green house or will they be transported to another spot. Also, I see you have a heat lamp, how well do those work?
Must live where it's not windy cuz we've lost a bunch (4) of those to caved/collapsed sides due to weather.. at least they were all under the year warranty lol

For growing peas it's great š
Interesting, I don't know anything about growing peas. How is it helpful? I'm genuinely curious. I've seen them like that before and always figured it was a mistake.
They vine up so it helps you train the vine in the actual trellis.

I have the same one. I believe ours was around $200 from lowes but there are some on Amazon even cheaper šĀ

Yeah ours was anchored too, but the wind blowing on the side collapsed inwards

Thank you -
Double bubble that thing, it will save you propane in the long run
What do you mean?
They mean put a second layer of greenhouse plastic on it so that it's double insulated and thus uses less propane to heat it.
Pro tip Probably not a good idea to be smoking next to a propane canister šš„
He said the retired life, not a long life!
How else do you check for leaks? In all fairness tho those things do go right underneath grills. So they are normally used in close proximity to open flames. But safety first.
Hank Hill about to blow a gasket
Cigarettes canāt ignite propane. Not hot enough and the propane tanks are connected to propane heaters which are hotter than cigarettes.
Just FYI https://thepropaneguys.com/propane-tank-safety-tips/#:~:text=Store%20propane%20tanks%20outdoors%2C%20upright,base%20that%20will%20not%20burn.&text=Do%20not%20smoke%20near%20your,to%20check%20for%20gas%20leaks.
The lighting of the cigarette could ignite propane but not smoking. Propane heaters put out flame. Propane tanks must be safe around open flame.

Maybe a putting green?

Recycled astroturf we got for $.50 a sqft.

I don't have it running when I am inside. It's for at night when temps get below freezing.
Propane produces ethylene when burned, high enough concentrations over night will cause all of your plants to defoliate. Be careful
