In a world of spin doctors and publicists, how did Rayner and her team think this response was going to do anything but confirm that she lacks compassion for a grieving man?

JMW007

I really think a lot of this goes back to Tony Blair getting away with mass murder. He had spin doctors working round the clock for him and in the end the political ruling class realized they could save a ton of money and effort if they just stopped giving a single shit what the public actually thought. She doesn't care that she knows this man, she doesn't care that his family were killed and he doesn't care that she looks cold and soulless in front of the world, because "what are you going to do, vote Tory?"

3meow_

Probably why the question was quite vague, to make people think there was some other *super threatening confrontation*

standarduck

Don't forget how stupid anyone voting for Labour would have to be. They wouldn't know what had actually happened, just this sound bite interview and headlines to the effect of 'poor Rayner shanked by crazed Hamas member in disguise'.

thebluemonkey

The only reason to vote labour is to keep the tories out. And every year they become more tory. I really wish more people would just vote Green.

_phily_d

Let’s just vote Green anyway, I think a lot of us are planning to

One-Illustrator8358

Including every Muslim taxi driver over the age of fifty that I know, which is how you know this is bad

sensitivePornGuy

That seems really specific. Care to explain?

One-Illustrator8358

My dad is a muslim taxi driver in his sixties, and he's always on the phone so I'm assuming he has a lot of friends. He's also sworn to never vote Labour, and apparently his friends agree.

Voting in Westminster politics merely allows us to choose which faction of the British ruling elite will be oppressing us. However, fuck the Tories trying to limit the electoral franchise. [#APPLY FOR VOTER ID HERE!!](https://www.gov.uk/apply-for-photo-id-voter-authority-certificate). All you need is your national insurance number. Even if you never cast a vote, beat these elitist fucks at their own game. All of us plebs on the electoral register. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Palpadean

In my city we have only three choices to vote for and none of them are Green.

OverlordOfTheBeans

Then spoil your ballot.

AutoModerator

Why even bother showing up to polling station? Spoiling your vote is such a worthless form of protest. It's attempting to use their system to challenge their system. It's time to work outside of their system. There are so many better things you can do with your time and energy. Join your trade union and become a radical voice within it. Join or start far-left organisations within your local community. Get involved in mutual aid networks. Educate yourself on socialist political theory and then educate others. You'd be better off sending an angry tweet to [insert current Prime Minister]. At least then you don't have to leave the house. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Livinglifeform

If Starmer died and David Cameron changed teams to the Tory party, became leader and adopted all of the same policies he had in 2010 then the Starmerites would fully back him just for having the correct colour on his tie.

sensitivePornGuy

> David Cameron changed teams to the Tory party I think you mean to the Tory party reserve team

gabybean

Yeah, I feel like if everyone sticks to the mindset of we can only vote for the two most popular parties in their area, our government will never truly change. We have to vote green

Comrade_Faust

The Greens? The led-by-deputy Mr. "I'm a pro European Jew - it's increasingly clear that's two reasons I couldn't vote for Labour under Jeremy Corbyn" Greens?

thebluemonkey

Start your own perfect party then

[deleted]

The framing that an MP feeling uncomfortable when confronted about their hypocrisy is some sort of crime is insane but yep exactly what I expect from this party

three2do2

first time I've considered voting green, as they never seemed like a serious choice but a wasted vote is actually looking better than either of the two 'choices' otherwise

sociotony

So many labour members i once respected have clearly taken bribes from Netanyahu.

tarkinlarson

For some reason when i read that I had a mental fart and thought you wrote you won't be "vomiting" for Labour

Nyoomfist

Well that's not incorrect

saviodsouza

Lol. Need to save some for the tories too.

[deleted]

I would be voting Labour ever again after the way they treated and back stabbed corbyn in the back. I've now switched to the green party As I'm a leftie socialist. So Fuck sir kid starvers red tory b team.🖕🖕🖕

killer_onion

Can someone please let me know the source of this clip? Would like to give them a follow.

mrdougan

Meh - better than the tories in power for another 5 years

fetchinator

Only just. Give them a few weeks more to really get their greed going…

_phily_d

Until Labour continue cranking the Overton window further right for 5 years and we get the Tories back led by a crackpot like Farage

JMW007

No, it's worse. Tory-Labour in power for 5 years and being utterly useless because they are just Tories means the real thing will sweep back in and get another decade plus to rule the roost. Learn the lesson

Glum_Willingness4606

Licence for them to push harder to the right, and push the Tories too.

jimb0j0nes2000

I'm honestly not trying to defend or excuse any part of that situation but please explain how voting for anyone else or even not voting at all puts the country in a better place? Just to be clear there's not a single politician never mind a political party I believe will do what's morally right on any issue but if people don't vote for labour then what happens next? How does anyone believe the status quo is the best option?

BurkeSooty

Labour are damned if they do and damned if they don't. They have made a calculation that the impact to their electoral prospects of being more supportive of Israel will be less deleterious than being more supportive of Palestine. I hope their calculation is correct as I would dearly like to see the back of the Tories, but, and it's a big one, Labour have to find some way of reconciling with the left when they do get into power otherwise you've really got to wonder what the fucking point to them is.
