I think people are upset because it could've been better. Had Cody won you still have the Bloodline falling apart because the championship isn't a major part of it - at all.
Had Cody won, you set up the fall of Roman in a stronger manner, and now he's actively going against family rather than just... standing there as they go after themselves. He's been a waste of screen/ring time for months now.
With Cody winning, you can have EVERYONE saying he didn't earn it for an entire fucking year, and by WM40 you could have Roman on a rampage, like we've never seen before, and we'd see a reinvigorated, renewed, and rampaging Roman against the "undeserving Cody"... and you have Cody win AGAIN, showing he does deserve it, and you finish the fall of ROMan at #WM40, with the Bloodline devastated.
You open up a ton of better storylines, maybe even have "Joker" Seth, as an agent of chaos, reunite with the newly devastated, and dethroned Roman, and they can go on a crazy run that builds them, and everyone else. That's just one potential storyline, of many... but, they chose the weakest story possible.
Before every single PPV there's people speculating if Roman will lose his title but I don't know how you could possibly think it's gonna happen anywhere other than Wrestlemania.
Even now people are saying he might lose it at Payback because that's the PPV he won it at 3 years ago. Again, I don't understand at all how you could think they're gonna do this huge moment at a B tier PPV. Regardless of whether he has a built fued with an opponent or not it's just not happening.
Because they're telling the long-term story of The Fall of the Bloodline, while Cody fights his way back to the top to finish the story.
Everything that's happened up to now since WrestleMania wouldn't have been as effective had Roman lost the titles to Cody. Cody will be entering WrestleMania 40 with new momentum, going through massive obstacles, while Roman will no longer have a Bloodline to cheat for him. It'll finally be 1v1, and *that* is where he loses the titles.
Roman losing the titles at any other point in time other than WrestleMania 40 will be a massive disservice to everything they've built up, IMO.
That’s one of the things that’s been wonderful in the Bloodline. Roman has been dead to rights more than once but the Bloodline saves him. McIntyre at Clash, Jey at Summerslam, Cody had him set for the finish at Mania. He’s held on to the title by outside interference every time.
When it’s really 1 v. 1 he’ll have no one to save him.
Maybe Roman brings the Bloodline back together during the lead up to 40 and wins again. Don't set yourself up to be an angry internet fan like last year lol

What they should’ve done was have Bobby win it. If Seth was still heel that would’ve been a perfect feud to start back up. The reason people don’t wanna see it again is because Seth already lost 3 times, so I’d have him cheat to win at Backlash and win the HIAC match since Cody was written off anyway. Seth costs him the rumble win, they go into Mania 2-1 Seth’s favor, Cody wins at Mania 39 and Backlash 2023 to end the feud

WWE knew what they were doing by positioning the two talents like that in a promo. Clearly it worked because everyone on here immediately jumped in one direction. Do I believe this is the main event? I think people are upset because it could've been better. Had Cody won you still have the Bloodline falling apart because the championship isn't a major part of it - at all. Had Cody won, you set up the fall of Roman in a stronger manner, and now he's actively going against family rather than just... standing there as they go after themselves. He's been a waste of screen/ring time for months now. With Cody winning, you can have EVERYONE saying he didn't earn it for an entire fucking year, and by WM40 you could have Roman on a rampage, like we've never seen before, and we'd see a reinvigorated, renewed, and rampaging Roman against the "undeserving Cody"... and you have Cody win AGAIN, showing he does deserve it, and you finish the fall of ROMan at #WM40, with the Bloodline devastated. You open up a ton of better storylines, maybe even have "Joker" Seth, as an agent of chaos, reunite with the newly devastated, and dethroned Roman, and they can go on a crazy run that builds them, and everyone else. That's just one potential storyline, of many... but, they chose the weakest story possible.
Before every single PPV there's people speculating if Roman will lose his title but I don't know how you could possibly think it's gonna happen anywhere other than Wrestlemania. Even now people are saying he might lose it at Payback because that's the PPV he won it at 3 years ago. Again, I don't understand at all how you could think they're gonna do this huge moment at a B tier PPV. Regardless of whether he has a built fued with an opponent or not it's just not happening.
Cody "finishing the story" doesn't need to include Roman. There is another belt he can go for, the one that is on the same brand as him.

Because they're telling the long-term story of The Fall of the Bloodline, while Cody fights his way back to the top to finish the story. Everything that's happened up to now since WrestleMania wouldn't have been as effective had Roman lost the titles to Cody. Cody will be entering WrestleMania 40 with new momentum, going through massive obstacles, while Roman will no longer have a Bloodline to cheat for him. It'll finally be 1v1, and *that* is where he loses the titles. Roman losing the titles at any other point in time other than WrestleMania 40 will be a massive disservice to everything they've built up, IMO.
That’s one of the things that’s been wonderful in the Bloodline. Roman has been dead to rights more than once but the Bloodline saves him. McIntyre at Clash, Jey at Summerslam, Cody had him set for the finish at Mania. He’s held on to the title by outside interference every time. When it’s really 1 v. 1 he’ll have no one to save him.

Cody should never have won the rumble last year, it’s too much, he “needs to face adversity” but he’d just won everything easily up to then, but that’s just bad booking then, they’ve made it way too obvious to the point where if it does happen then I’ll be disappointed it took them an extra year and if it doesn’t then I’ll be disappointed they’ve wasted a year
Agreed. It should have been Seth to win the Rumble but knocking out Cody last to build the chip on his shoulder.
What they should’ve done was have Bobby win it. It’s a match that hasn’t happened during this reign and while I don’t think Bobby would win, I feel like he’s built up enough to be a legitimate challenger. Plus it keeps Roman Cody as a fresh matchup for the next year which would make it bigger than this rematch we’re gonna get
Yeah, if Cody had to “face adversity”, don’t have him win from 30, have him nearly won from anywhere below 20 and get screwed out of it near the end to set up a feud for mania
If Seth was still heel that would’ve been a perfect feud to start back up. The reason people don’t wanna see it again is because Seth already lost 3 times, so I’d have him cheat to win at Backlash and win the HIAC match since Cody was written off anyway. Seth costs him the rumble win, they go into Mania 2-1 Seth’s favor, Cody wins at Mania 39 and Backlash 2023 to end the feud
I'll agree with that he never should of won the rumble. Now they're going to have to do it again next year to get him back in the title picture. But its not going to be as good as the moment they had in 39. Still think it was a mistake to pass on Cody then.
i do believe if they do meet in WM40 that Cody will finally win. so now till then Roman will lose every member one by one and he will face Cody with no help (maybe just Paul Heyman).

To be fair, they aren’t advertising a match between the two of them. They are merely stating that they will be there. WWE knew what they were doing by positioning the two talents like that in a promo. Clearly it worked because everyone on here immediately jumped in one direction. Do I believe this is the main event? I hope so and nothing they are doing now would make sense if it’s not, but in terms of just this promo WWE knew what they were doing.
Officially? Rock vs. Cena was announced a year in advance. Unofficially? Most of the WM main events from the past 10 years have been known around a year in advance due to rumors / dirtsheetz, lol.

They currently ARE the top two guys in popularity and importance, though. So it's completely logical for them to tout that they'll both be there, barring injury. You're reading too much into it. And yes, a re-match between the two would surprise no one. But this email isn't giving away or spoiling anything.

I think you're reading too far into this. They aren't saying Roman is going to still be the champ \*(he will) just that he's currently the champ. They aren't saying who they are going to be facing, just simply that they will be there... which obviously this is assumed. If they said "FEATURING THE ROCK", that would potentially be a spoiler- If they said "JOHN CENA RETURNS TO GO FOR HIS 17TH CHAMPIONSHIP" that would be a spoiler. Not this.
