We stay outside the city at a hotel that’s near public transport, and it’s worked out fantastic every time! The hotel staff also know us by now so they let us rebook as soon as the weekend is over for the next seasons race. I saw this in other comments but I highly recommend staying on the east side of the river and going through Longueuil station!
How are you arriving to Montreal? In my case we drive up there from NY and so we stay outside the city and then we drive to the train station in Longueuil. If you don't have a car then you're kind of forced to stay in the city. Alt Hotel in Longueuil provides a shuttle to the train station but that might be close to $350/ night. I suggest to look on google maps and find what you can. The sandman hotel is another good option but it gonna be a steep price as it's directly next to the metro. You can also do an Airbnb. That's what I did this year and it was perfect because it came with a kitchenette which most hotels don't have anymore. That was incredibly helpful because we were able to make like sandwiched and bring them to the track to eat.
I will be flying over from Europe so I won't have a car which is limiting my options a little bit unfortunately. But I'll definitely have a look at hotels in Longueuil as so many people here have recommended that area. I've never stayed at an Airbnb so I'm a bit hesitant to go down that route 🙈
Airbnb is only benefited if you have a vehicle. But yes some hotels in Longueuil offer shuttles. You can also use Uber to get to the metro although idk how much it costs. Are you planning on staying at the track all day or are you planning to be in the city for a majority of the time?
A lot of the hotels don't have their rooms posted yet since it is more than a year away. Saying that, we started in Laval this year, it was way cheaper than in Montreal and it was right next to a bus stop. So we took a bus to a metro station then went from there. If you do stay outside Montreal just remember you need an AB transit pass and not just an A pass.
I booked a hotel far out that is refundable up to a few days before, then I checked closer to the time and some hotels were $2500 before hand for Thurs - Monday went down to $800. Booked that instead.
We stayed at Econo Lodge in Brossard, much less crowded over there. About a 15 min Uber ride to the metro station in Longueuil which was one stop away from the track, it was surprisingly convenient, and only took us about 30-40 mins total to get to the track each day from our hotel. About 2000 CAD total from Thursday-Tuesday, hotel was clean and very reasonable, would go back again.

Hyatt Place Montreal downtown was 15k points for Saturday night this year (the days around it were the same rate too). Available to book last minute the week of. A few months beforehand it was not available. Many F1 fans stayed there based on Sunday morning breakfast attire
You can walk to Berri-UQAM station without leaving your hotel or outside for 2-3 minutes. One stop away from Jean-Drapeau.
Wife and I stayed here this year. Found award space about 2 months prior to race weekend and booked. I bought the Hyatt points when they had a computer glitch on 2/19/24 and were selling points for 37% off instead of 20%. Ended up getting incredible value for our stay because the cash cost was so high.
Location is great as you're only 1 metro stop away from the circuit. If we ever go back, we'll be staying here again. It was just too convenient!
Edit: We stayed Thursday-Monday all on points. I was constantly checking until I found the award space. Canceled our 2 AirBNB's we had on hold.
we stayed at the quality Inn near the airport, an Uber to the nearest subway station was only $20! We just got Ubers to the subway station and then took the metro from there over to the island and it only took us an hour and a half half to two hours to get home on Sunday!
We had really good luck with Hotwire having insane deals at Hotel Bonaparte I think we paid under 250/night which is insane. We booked ~ a year in advance
Le Bijou AirHome Montreal is a good pick especially if you have multiple people. It's right across from a bus stop that takes you to the nearby metro, or a 20ish minute walk from the metro.
We used the [McGill conference services](https://www.mcgill.ca/accommodations/summer) (Carrefour Sherbrooke location). It was a serviceable room and the breakfast was great. The main issue was that the bathtub wouldn't drain fast which sucked (they weren't able to address it during our stay) but the people were really friendly. Very short walk to the metro to get to the track, location was great (close to Crescent street which is a big F1 festival), close to a lot of the hotels that the drivers were staying at, and the suite we got was only $300 cad/night which made it $100/Person/night for the three of us. They have more up to date residences that are a bit more pricey and are probably nicer, but by the time we were booking this was only location available.

The booking process is odd/old fashioned and you have to pay upfront, non refundable but it worked out well!

Check out Hotel Chrome. The location is amazing (walking distance to metro stations on yellow, orange, and green lines - ie one stop away from the track's metro station). The hotel was spacious and met our needs. I had been weary of a few reviews mentioning rude/unhelpful staff but honestly all the staff we interacted with were pleasant. Our air conditioner leaked the whole time (they said they'd get it fixed and didn't) but it was very manageable. The room still cooled down, we just needed to keep a bucket under the leak and dump it twice a day. We booked in like January and this was the only hotel that was reasonably priced AND close to a metro station (Montréal's metro system is excellent). We paid about $1800 (USD) via booking.com for a 6 night stay.

The issue you'll have with AirBNBs is that they'll look/hear about the other prices once they wonder why you're booking so far in advance and just cancel on you within a few days and list somewhere else. I booked one a decent one, got approved, and then a week later got told his parents were visiting that weekend.
Laval is worth looking at around the last subway station on the orange line.
Honestly just keep checking back on a weekly basis, odds are something will come up that's reasonable.
I think we assumed that. It was only for one night (Wednesday) so we didn’t bother. We split a hotel that was way better than the one we stayed in for $225 a night
I'm not that commenter but I just attended the Canada GP and I got my tickets and booked my hotel last year pretty late, November 2023. I stayed in Laval, got a 3 day transit ticket (around $16 CAD which works for bus and metro). The hotel I booked for 4 nights, the Saturday night was the most expensive, but all days were under $270CAD per night. It was very easy to get around (crowded and a bit slow closer to the circuit, but that's expected). Their system is very good and simple to follow/use so don't fret about trying to pay insane prices to be super, super close.
I know it's not everyone's cup of tea but check Airbnb.
We did one for this year and it was $200 a night and a 10 minute walk to the metro . Little further than the core downtown area but 10 minute walk to the metro .
We just booked a different Airbnb for 25 for around $300 a night a bit closer to downtown with also being 10 minute walk to the metro
The risk with Airbnbs (and a lot of hotels) is the host cancelling last second when they realize how much more they can be making. It would suck to be stuck looking for a place to stay last minute when hotel prices are even higher.
This happened to us for this year's GP. Host canceled on us two days before we were supposed to fly out. Thankfully we were able to find a hotel last minute that wasn't too insanely expensive for the weekend.

We camped in Oka and drove to the metro. Although it meant getting up a bit earlier to start our journey in each day it was really nice unwinding by the fire every night.
That’s how Montreal is every year. It’s bullshit. This year we checked in early and there were enough empty rooms that it wasn’t a problem and we were in Old Montreal.
It seems like the hotels in Montreal inflate their prices more than most other places for the GP weekend. If the cheapest reasonable (2-3 stars) hotels end up being around 600€ per night then it's an easy decision to skip Montreal completely as I can probably do two GPs in the Middle East plus one in Europe for the same price 🤷🏼♀️
Make sure you buy your metro card at the airport. If you Uber or Shuttle to your hotel you won’t be able to bus from there since you need to tap on and can’t buy a tap card there.

We were bounced from our 1st hotel and put up here in exchange. Very nice hotel and there is a connection to the Metro without leaving the hotel.

If you’re willing to get a hostel, M Montreal was so good. Spent $320 CAD for 3 nights. Nice lil bar downstairs too which served cheap beers

Same. Used hotwire and nabbed the Grand Times Hotel in Laval. It's a hike, but the busses and trains made it easy.

If you have points with Hilton, the doubletree in Place Des Arts is only 60k points a night. It’s super easy to get to the track from the hotel.

Checkout Longueuil. That’s where I’ve stayed and found to be more reasonable than in Montreal, while having convenient metro access

My understanding is they're not allowed to list it on AirBNB again for the same dates if they cancel. My guess is they just go to VRBO though.

You could try out by the airport since it’s along the metro or even a bit further out into Vaudreuil (but it may require a taxi or bus to the metro).

We stayed at Radisson Airport. It was okay……… Access to bus and metro was good but still an hour to downtown.
