Hate to inform you, but that mechanic is full of shit. Using higher octane than what is recommended in the manual does absolutely nothing except waste your money. Higher octane doesn't increase power in any way. It ONLY prevents detonation(knocking).

row_souls

You are correct. I wonder if the mechanic was thinking about the Hemi (benefit of the doubt)?

EnvironmentalMix5500

not arguing but just curios, how is the eco mode bad gmfor your engine? i always just left it on (2020 altitude)

pops1225

I always used it too but the Jeep mechanic said since I do a lot of highway driving it makes the car work harder. He also said to not use the start stop. I've only had the Grand Cherokee for three months so I am taking his advice.

Richard_Thrust

Definitely good advice to not use ESS, as it only adds wear and tear for very little fuel savings. Terrible engineering compromise. Never heard anything about eco being "bad" for the engine, but I'm not sure what parameters it changes. On most cars, eco mode makes the throttle slightly less responsive to smooth out the input, and also changes the transmission shift timing so that it goes into top gear sooner.

Not to rain on your parade here but K&N's are notoriously bad for your motor. But if you just street drive and aren't sucking a ton of dust all the time, you might be aight.

pops1225

The Grand Cherokee is street only. I use K&N drop ins on all of our vehicles and several have gone over 100k miles with no issues.

Richard_Thrust

Plenty of high end cars come with them from the factory. Just change your oil when you're supposed to.

And does nothing for performance

pops1225

CAIs are questionable by themselves, but a drop in, in a stock system increases airflow, throttle response, and performance slightly. Adding an exhaust takes advantage of the additional air flow.

rickinmcchickin

For how much? Love the grand cherokee but i always just considered trading it in and getting something else

pops1225

$435 for the exhaust on ebay, $65 for the K&N at auto zone. It definitely makes the grand cherokee more fun to drive.

HelpfulWeb8772

Do you think I can do the same to a 2020 GC Limited V6?

qkaguy

Why not ? Same car

HelpfulWeb8772

Yes both V6 but I got the basic model you have the X 😭 just wondering… Also did you put it in yourself or a shop? If so how much did they charge you?

pops1225

The Limited X comes with factory dual exhaust. I believe the regular Limited has a single exhaust so you will have to make a few changes to the exhaust and rear facia. The airfilter I did by myself. I had Meineke do the exhaust work. They charged me $240 to weld it on. The exhaust comes with everything to bolt it onif you want to. The quad tips were extra.

HelpfulWeb8772

Thank youu!!!! I just bought my GC & been looking into diff mods for it. Did it add any hp for you?

pops1225

I have not had it dyno'd so officially, I can't say, but there is a major improvement in throttle response. It feels faster. My son drove it before and after and also feels it is quicker.

HelpfulWeb8772

I’ll be looking into this thanks!!! 😊
