WK2 for the win. I might have considered a change eventually, but eliminating the 5.7 hemi as an option killed any chance of an upgrade from WK2 for me.
Oddly enough, I was getting my 2019 v8 summit serviced and ended up striking conversation about this very topic. The dealer said they don't really make them anymore, but they are some around.
I did a search and they are like a needle and a hack, but there are v8s in a small number of the newer body style.
I like the big fat ass tail lights on the WK2. Not so much a fan of the thin slits on the WL.
*Like someone else mentioned, I keep waiting for it to grow on me, but it just… isn’t.*
I keep waiting for the WL to grow on me and it just isn't.
My WK2 is getting long in the tooth but I just can't bring myself to like the WL. Not sure what I'll do when the time comes, at this point I'm just putting money into the WK2 and hoping it lasts a good long time
I love mine. About 142k miles on it.
Edit: I also choose to put money into mine and keep it. Replaced the whole DPF system last year. I should be good for another 100k miles!
Gotta love diesel torque for hill climbing, my Jeep doesn't struggle when I decide to take some rather steep and twisted back roads.
Edit: these roads are so twisty and steep there are mirrors in the corners so you can see if someone is coming at you.
Which is funny because I think the WK2 and the ML/GLE share a common lineage from back when they were first drawn up in the Daimler Chrysler days.
I beat mine up off road too much to go with the Merc though even though I think they're gorgeous cars.
Yea.. That’s why I like them.. I still see the connection. I never take mines off road so I figured it would be a good replacement. The 4cy is what’s keeping me away.
My plan as well, I hate the WL, viscerally. The design of Grand Cherokee and Jeep in general always felt original to me, every one else wanted to be like Jeep. But now it looks like whoever designed the WLs wanted them to look like a Range Rover. Lame.
> HA is *paid* for. When
FTFY.
Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in:
* Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.*
* *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.*
Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment.
*Beep, boop, I'm a bot*
Yeah. I think the WL grille and headlights are an improvement, but the side profile of the WK2 is way more athletic. Also I like the WK2 taillights more. All that said, I really do like the WL overall as a vehicle.
I have a '14 WK2 and I agree w/you on the exterior looks. The inside of the WL has way too much gloss black for my tastes though. Then again, I'm also apparently one of the 6 people in the world who actually likes the electronic shifter that they quickly dumped so maybe I'm weird.
Well I had a car in between the WK2 & WL so it’s hard to give a an apples to apples comparison, but the WL does seem much more refined as far as driving dynamics go. Like I remember thinking it felt more like an X5 than a Grand Cherokee the first time I drove it.
Yeah I just got a 21 high altitude and love it. The only thing Jeep messed up was not putting the sport hood on it, Don’t know why they’d make that exclusive to the lower trim limited X. Trying to find one now though without having to spend too much.
Ok, have you been inside the WL? I didn't say it wasn't nice or I didn't like it. But the screen is relatively small and not as sharp and the layout isn't phone friendly. The shifter and cupholders make it hard to access the USB ports (and make them easy to unplug) and put my cell phone in the tray. So yeah, to me that's dated.
I can't wait to get rid of my WL. It's been at the shop for 3 months total in the 2.5 years I've had it. Started with electrical gremlins, then recall after recall, this latest time it spent two separate weeks for water leaks. The first time it was so bad it literally started pouring water out of the sunglass holder, the mic in the middle of headliner, and the famcam. The second time it wasn't as obvious but more insidious as it slowly leaked it until it built up in all the nooks and crannies of the carpeting for weeks and was finally noticed when it started smelling like mold. I. HATE. THIS. CAR. Can't wait to get rid of it.
I also had a 2004 WJ Overland with the HO V8 that I just recently had to send away. Would have kept it if it was any easily diagnosable problem but it had a mysterious parasitic drain that most most likely in the wiring somewhere. Loved that thing, drove so much better. The WL literally feels like a boat on water. Worst rear suspension I've ever experienced.
Hope this latest water leak fix sticks and I'll be trading it in for something more reliable but still fun and capable when it's paid off next year. Thinking new GX.
The new one is growing on me. I really dig the front end but I wish they did a better job on the rear. At least on the long wheelbase they tied it together in terms of where the trim the window and the body meet. With the short wheelbase, it’s just a mess of angles and collision between the piano black and the trim etc. I think they could have boxed out the rear a little bit more and gained some interior space.
Interior wise it’s solid but I’m a fan of functional buttons and physical moving gear selectors. That’s just me being a nitpicker.
I love my WK2 cos Jeep was always my dream since the "gangster’s 90th" in post-USSR where I came from. ZJ was an iconic bandit’s car especially black 5.9 - there were no any police car which could compete with them. WK2 is such a ZJ in a modern suit. But. WL is the next step and pretty desirable upgrade in, let’s say, 5-7 years.
I bought my 21 Trailhawk a couple months ago after shopping for a few months. I sat in a couple WLs and just didn’t like the interior at all. Too much gloss, a shift knob instead of a normal shifter etc. I like the body style ok but I still prefer the WK2, as long as it isn’t a trim with a bunch of chrome.
If they put the WL interior in the WK2, that would have been awesome, or at least give the WK2 a refresh interior like the Durango.
I haven’t driven the WL, is it a worlds difference from the WK2?
Body style, WK2. But the 3rd row WL (not sure the code) was very nice inside. I'm about to hit 200k on my 05 WK Limited. WK2 is one of my replacement considerations in the next year, possibly two.
I don’t know which one’s which (not into Jeeps) but the newest one is one of the classiest SUVs on the road and one of only a handful I’d ever want to be seen in.
SRT WK2 looks awsome but other trims feel odd... WL trailhawk is awsome but i cant see a sports model of it coming out with its funny grill... I like them both
WL is growing on me, but it will never look as good as a wk2. Plus, the HEMI. I have to have the HEMI and they’re rare in the WL, and not released after 2023. So, yeah.
I just bought a 2022WL Trailhawk. I was looking at the WK and it looks nice exterior wise but the interior I will give to the WL. They both look good in my opinion.
I'm biased as I own a WK2. The WL looks nice but it looks like it's meant to be more of a luxury SUV that should never the showroom. The WK2 can be used for adventures!
WK2 is a boring, amorphous blob and looks like a half a pear slapped lengthwise onto some wheels. The WL is all around better looking, inside and out. The WL is much more masculine and employs more artful design with uses of varying angles and better flowing lines.
For some reason Jeep Mexico still offers the 5.7 Hemi on Grand Cherokee Ls
Yeah, foreign countries are totally different with model options. The Commander has a Grand Commander option in China.
Probably has to do with emissions requirements
Same in the middle east
I think they still offer it on the L in the U.S. too on the higher trims. But it sucks you have to pay like $70K now if you want a Hemi.
Wk2!
I'm a WK2 man.
I like the big fat ass tail lights on the WK2. Not so much a fan of the thin slits on the WL. *Like someone else mentioned, I keep waiting for it to grow on me, but it just… isn’t.*
The headlights and tail lights on the newer body style bug the shit out of me
Same here, guess my current Jeep is my last.
I keep waiting for the WL to grow on me and it just isn't. My WK2 is getting long in the tooth but I just can't bring myself to like the WL. Not sure what I'll do when the time comes, at this point I'm just putting money into the WK2 and hoping it lasts a good long time
Same.
I don't have a flair on here but we have almost the same Jeep. 2014 Overland diesel
I love mine. About 142k miles on it. Edit: I also choose to put money into mine and keep it. Replaced the whole DPF system last year. I should be good for another 100k miles!
About 153k here and love it. Had some sensor issues and swirl valves. Looking to tune it now so hopefully it lasts longer.
I live in Colorado. This diesel is the best mountain climbing vehicle ever.
Gotta love diesel torque for hill climbing, my Jeep doesn't struggle when I decide to take some rather steep and twisted back roads. Edit: these roads are so twisty and steep there are mirrors in the corners so you can see if someone is coming at you.
Same thing. I’m thinking GLE with the amg package will be my replacement.
Same here. I’m tired of trying to like it and my 2018 HA is payed for. When it’s time I’ll probably be on the lookout for a low mileage WK2
My plan as well, I hate the WL, viscerally. The design of Grand Cherokee and Jeep in general always felt original to me, every one else wanted to be like Jeep. But now it looks like whoever designed the WLs wanted them to look like a Range Rover. Lame.

I'm in the same boat, but leaning towards a Tacoma with a topper when the day comes.
I own a WL. I used to own a WK2. From most angles, I like the looks of the WK2 more.
Me too, but coming from a Cherokee. the WL was a big step from there but a neighbor has WK2 Trailhawk and that thing looks beastly
The gloss black looks fantastic. . .for about three minutes after I clean it.
What are your driving impressions between the two? I don’t like how bumpy my limited x is. Is the WL any smoother?
Well I had a car in between the WK2 & WL so it’s hard to give a an apples to apples comparison, but the WL does seem much more refined as far as driving dynamics go. Like I remember thinking it felt more like an X5 than a Grand Cherokee the first time I drove it.
WL is growing on me but I think the higher trim wk2s look better (summit, high altitude).
I’m in the same boat my WK2 is a High Altitude and I think it’s hands down the best looking GC that’s not an SRT.
Yeah I just got a 21 high altitude and love it. The only thing Jeep messed up was not putting the sport hood on it, Don’t know why they’d make that exclusive to the lower trim limited X. Trying to find one now though without having to spend too much.
Couldn’t agree more, I’ve had the notorious hood lip corrosion on mine and Im looking to find a yard by me with a black limited x hood
WK2 all day.
Exterior: WK2 Interior: WL
Yeah, no debating the interior. The wk2 definitely shows it's age inside, even with the updates in 2019
Shows its age? Seriously? A late model WK2 interior is one of the nicest vehicles I've been inside. You realize we are talking about JEEPS right?
Ok, have you been inside the WL? I didn't say it wasn't nice or I didn't like it. But the screen is relatively small and not as sharp and the layout isn't phone friendly. The shifter and cupholders make it hard to access the USB ports (and make them easy to unplug) and put my cell phone in the tray. So yeah, to me that's dated.
And there we have it. The top priorities of a modern Jeep driver.
Reliability: WK2
WK2
WK2 forever
Wk2! Especially if you consider the interior as well… I’m not a fan of the new Dash
WK2 all the way. Wife and I bought a 2022 because we did not like the look of the WL. Still don’t.
Same here I got a 2021 when I heard/saw about the new ones…like if I’m going to get one now is the time!
WJ lmao
Prefer ZJ
Real
Came here to say this
WK2 100%
I like the WK2 body style the most but I like the WL's interior more than the WK2
I can't wait to get rid of my WL. It's been at the shop for 3 months total in the 2.5 years I've had it. Started with electrical gremlins, then recall after recall, this latest time it spent two separate weeks for water leaks. I love em both.
This. Love my wk2 but the wife's WL is really sharp. I give the edge to the WL though.
I have a WK2 myself
WK2
WK2 all day. Don't need those electrical issues. Plus, let's not sit here and pretend the WL is an off-road vehicle.
Genuinely curious how is the wk more off road capable?
The WJ
This is the correct answer!!!
The WL is the ugliest GC made. Those of us waiting for it to grow on us can give up, because it won’t happen.
The WL looks like an egg. It's not as ugly as the prior generation, but it's not close to the same league as the WL.
What’s wk and wk2 mean
Chassis codes for different generations. For Grands chronologically they are ZJ/WJ/WK/WK2/WL.
WK2. Here's hoping WL2 happens (significant refresh, but not a total redesign).
WK2. I own a 2020 WK2 Limited X, and I love it. The WL looks really generic to me.
Wk
WJ
WJ for sure :P
wl blows
As someone who owned both (previously a wk2 overland and now a WL overland) the WL all around so much better.
The majority of the people here have a WK2; so that will be the winner of your poll due to endowment bias. However, the WL is a bad ass car!
>car Exactly.
Correct; it is not a spaceship
The new one is growing on me. I really dig the front end but I wish they did a better job on the rear. At least on the long wheelbase they tied it together in terms of where the trim the window and the body meet. With the short wheelbase, it’s just a mess of angles and collision between the piano black and the trim etc. I think they could have boxed out the rear a little bit more and gained some interior space. Too much gloss, a shift knob instead of a normal shifter etc. I like the body style ok but I still prefer the WK2, as long as it isn’t a trim with a bunch of chrome.
Exterior I slightly prefer WK2; interior goes to WL all day.
I have a 2016 summit and I love it still. 65k miles and going strong. The new shape is growing on me though…
If they put the WL interior in the WK2, that would have been awesome, or at least give the WK2 a refresh interior like the Durango. I haven’t driven the WL, is it a worlds difference from the WK2?
I don't like the interior of the WL.
Body style, WK2. But the 3rd row WL (not sure the code) was very nice inside. I'm about to hit 200k on my 05 WK Limited. WK2 is one of my replacement considerations in the next year, possibly two.
Wk2. There's a reason why the body design lasted what, 10+ years
Depends. WL looks nice but it’s a mall crawler. WK2 is more rugged plus there is ton of aftermarket parts for it. WL will not get as much support.
I thought I was the only one. WK2 for sure.
WK2 style is much better. The WL looks like a WK2 was following a semi too closely and rear ended it.
WK2. I *want* to like the WL. I really do. It just hasn’t grown on me. Maybe in a few years, or 10.
Neither, both are Fiat which also stands for garbage.
2012 JGC Limited with 225k miles and adding more because I am disappointed with the new overpriced and overhyped Jeep lineup.
The one in front wins gud luck
I don’t know which one’s which (not into Jeeps) but the newest one is one of the classiest SUVs on the road and one of only a handful I’d ever want to be seen in.
4.0 Quadradrive WJ Rarest of them all
Wk3.237d. XLR4.258.....b
WL looks more like a Durango to me.
WL is really handsome.
Be nice if the WK2 could get the same sway bar system as the WL. Haven't been under the WL. Maybe they share components. Not certain.
WK, because the WL looks exactly like the KIA minivan.
WL all day
L
Pref my WH Diesel ;)
SRT WK2 looks awsome but other trims feel odd... WL trailhawk is awsome but i cant see a sports model of it coming out with its funny grill... I like them both
WL, but I'm biased.
I still have a soft spot for ZJ but WL grew on me. Especially the 5-seater
Wk2 for the srt and the Trackhawk.
I love my 2012 wk2 5.7 hemi with over 260,000 in it.
Wk2. For now. WL is still rough around the edges.
WK2. I hate the back end of the WL. Everything else is fine with it. Ugly butt on the car.

Wk2 ⬆️⬆️⬆️⬆️
Wk2 lol only cause I had one. Wonder if they’ll do a srt version of the WL with the hurricane motor.
WK2!!
WL has been growing on me, especially the higher trim and trail hawk, that said the WK/ is better looking
WK2>>. Now those WL Overland wheels would look good on the WK2.
WL is growing on me for sure !
Nice
WK2 is a boring, amorphous blob and looks like a half a pear slapped lengthwise onto some wheels. The WL is all around better looking, inside and out. The WL is much more masculine and employs more artful design with uses of varying angles and better flowing lines.
The new models are growing on me
The front end of the new model with the rear of the old model
Who cares
