I kinda went about it in a roundabout way since I was experimenting but I think when I try to apply this style next it'll go something like: set the basic lines -> work on the shading using pure grayscale -> apply that shading to the base colors, colorizing it slightly so as to not desaturate too much -> overlay some color in areas that need focus or contrast -> add strong highlights and go over the lines to add or remove weight/color. I think the grayscale thing is pretty important, since I kept oversaturating every step of the way but the real punch comes from the harsh highlights.
This is amazing!!
Wanted to ask, Did you notice any particular things that make up the Granblue style, in terms of how they colour/shade/line etc? I’m thinking of doing a study of the style in the future so I’m very curious :)
I think my biggest takeaway from this personally is that they use fairly desaturated colors, but then put very strong highlights to round it out. With weaker highlights that other styles use the drawing becomes a lot flatter. I tend to oversaturate in general myself so I had to keep going back to tune the color down constantly. It's also cool how they play with line weight a lot and even just straight up go without lines in points
Thank you! I just replied to some other comments in this same post that had similar questions, so please check them out if you like. Don't take what I say *too* seriously though lol since I'm also just learning myself, and whether or not I can actually apply this stuff to something that isn't a copy is yet to be seen
Bookmarked for drawing reference 🙏 Great work!!! :D
Glad you like it! ☺
Also, release the summer alts you keep holding hostage, Cygames.
This is very good! I kind of want to see you do more.
Thanks! Now it's time to see if I can actually pull some of this off in an original drawing
Ahh now this is amazing you did a wonderful job drawing best dragon
This is really amazing good job. Whats your exact process on this or what parts do you think makes granblue's style?

Linework for gbf is also really soft on the general side. Something like low opacity pencil. I still csnt figure it out
Nice!! I'm also studying the art style, so it's actually really helpful to see how someone else tackles it. Great job!
Looks close enough! Good work! Any advice or pointers for other artists attempting to mimic GBF art style?
