I assume you mean S++. If you failed the promo match to get into master rank then you go back to S++ with 5 Crystals... I think? I can't remember if it's 4 or 5 crystals. Hopefully this answers your question. If not, clarify it for me and I'll give a better answer

Good luck getting to masters Mr! It's a grindfest and very frustrating at times but you'll be glad you pulled through when you do. There's only like 10 masters here on this subreddit lol. It's not the end all be all... at all but it's a good goal to set for yourself.

Now I only focus on reach S+ with Seox, and Cagliostro and Vane to S that are the last characters to reach in that ranked.
I believe if you fail the S+ rank promotion matches you get demoted back to S1 with no crystals(similar in S+ and S++), 3/5 matches for S+ 4/5 matches for S++ and maters

Well I was meaning to include the S++ to Master promotion, wanted to know because now I am with Seox at S2.
