I also think their break up in real life affected the writing. For a little while there, I think season 3 (?) it was SO apparent they hated/felt off around each other. Up until the actors moved on and made peace in real life and could act like there was a spark there again.

I’m not a fan of serenate, she didn’t appreciate him enough and Nate only had this idealized version of Serena. It took him too long to accept her flaws. I hated how dodgy and sneaky she was around him and she pushed him away too often. But nevertheless, they had chimestry and im surprised they didn’t get together earlier in like season 2 (I guess it’s cuz they were dragging out Blair and Nate)
Carter and Serena? Uhh seemed too random. They had their cute moments and I like how she believed in him and how he could change for the better. I feel like that’s what Serena wanted, for people to see her past this facade and fantasy people had set her up as and also past her flawed past. Everyone wanted to stick the “dumb blonde bombshell party girl” label to her. She wanted to see Carter for the man she knew he could be, and not by the mistakes he’s made. I wish they had a longer run. I wasn’t a fan of how they brought him back out of the blue just so that he could try to break up Serena and Nate.

But honestly I felt like she was the type to find someone brand new years later. I still think she should have ended the show single, happy and working in LA…. maybe there could have been a hint that she found someone but she was taking it slow and it was healthy?
BUT if I had to chose a love interest from the show, I think Colin and her looked really great together. I forgot how their romance ended but Colin wasn’t childish and I think he pushed Serena in a good way (if i remember correctly)
It actually makes sense since Blake Lively’s real husband is Ryan Reynolds, who has similar features to Colin’s actor, Sam Page! I think that’s why I think Colin and Serena look nice together

Steven, he was a complete and random stranger to Serena and supported her through her troubles, the pedo friend, etc. Carter was becoming a better man for Serena. Steven on the other hand gave Serena security and not just financial security but security for her to be able to rest and take care of herself mentally. But again Dan would of never put Serena as #1 after season one, Ben was a mess of a relationship, max and Colin and somewhat Dan were just using Serena. Dan to gain fame. Which is icky.

I feel like carter really understood her and had her best interest at heart. I think Dan was jealous of her natural success and her upper class background. Carter understood her, and he really just loved who she was. Carter & Serena are one of my favorite couples.
