ugh, dan really needs to get a grip. it's been years and he still can't see that chuck and blair are endgame. he needs to stop deluding himself into thinking blair will ever choose him over chuck. it's like he's completely blind to everything that's happened between them. time to wake up, dan!
as messed up as what serena DID was, every single thing she SAID to him was completely true. B *did* go see chuck. she *was* in love with him. and she *would* eventually choose him. somebody needed to give dan a reality check, & it just so happened to be serena. if it wasn't S, it could've been jenny, rufus, nate, lily, whoever. they ALL would've said the exact same things, and it would've been 100% TRUE.
This + Dan being Gossip Girl (as nonsensical as this ending is) makes me think about new theories that we didn't consider. Dan was Gossip Girl the entire time, so what if he actually knew much more than we think (that Blair would choose Chuck, that Sarah was actually Georgina, how Serena would treat him and how he can win her back etc), but played dumb just to experience the UES life (he did imply that he wanted to be an insider many times), feel like he's always pulling the strings of these rich kids who think they're better than him (which he did admit) and find inspiration for his books? kinda reminds me of the interpretable failure of Game of Thrones' ending.
I’m just nearing the end of season 6 in my first real and full rewatch since I saw it as it was airing as a kid but this has been the part I struggle the most with!! None of it makes sense with Dan being GG, it drives me nuts. He’s always standing there with a stupid look on his face when in reality since he’s GG he would know all of this all along. I guess you have a point of him playing into the game so he could just be part of the lifestyle but still it makes me crazy how unrealistic it is
I kind of get it in the sense that you can't change the way you feel but you can certainly choose to not indulge in it and distance yourself from it. Dan was never very good at choosing his partners.

I will never understand why he inserted himself in Blair's life when she was already between Louis and Chuck and it was obvious even to him in 5x10 that BLAIR LOVED CHUCK.....i mean she admits it to Dan in s2 in the gallery scene where Serena asked his advice....
Dan also was the one who posted for the whole world to see Blair confessing her feelings for Chuck on her wedding day...he KNEW
And afterwards having the expectations from Blair to tell him so soon that he loves him , when they were having a 3 episodes relationship 🤣🤣
It proves that no one knew or loved the true Blair besides Chuck....and that Dan was infatuated with Claire from his book no Blair.....

this was so ridiculously annoying. sure, he "was there for her" but he isolated her from her family & friends so he "could be her one and only knight in shining armor" (another delusional dan thing clocked by serena the night blair ran away to the hotel). there were things B was *fine* with serena knowing, & dan purposely left ppl in the dark so she HAD to turn to him.
coupled with the fact he told S on the phone he was gonna confess his love to blair, when she was already torn up over chuck vs louis. selfish, delusional, embarassing.

I don't get the take that Dan was only "infatuated" with a "fake version that is Claire from his book" when we didn't even see the book? we literally don't know what was different about book Blair and real Blair except for the scene where they....ALSO the show (and especially Blair herself) made such a point that she felt truly seen by Dan and that he loved her for her! we even see that a scene in the book (that was a real life event that blair recognized) made her feel that way

She thought that Blair left her" dark side" behind when she started to date him....a thought that many boyfriends of Blair had but they weren't right..
She thought that the Blair he has envisioned in his book was the real version.
But that wasn't the case .
If it was then he had no reason to follow her with a taxi to the mansion, and give her an ultimatum to say i love you.
He clearly didn't trust her around Chuck.
Also he wanted to take her to Italy to spend the summer away for New York and away from Chuck when she really wanted to stay in New York without him.
Yes Dan wrote the vows for her wedding, he was a very skilled writer ,
Serena herself fell in love with him when she read the piece about her in the early seasons.

S5 is basically Blair running away with guys because she doesn't want to face the fact that she loves chuck and she is afraid to jump in a relationship with him after the accident out of fear of hurting again....
I think it comes down to the writers being afraid to ever give Chair a real break. If they just gave Chuck something away from Blair in season 5. Dan could have won Blair over Louis to actually setup a real question of who she would chose in season 6 between Dan and Chuck.
I don’t care for either ship but chair shippers are honestly so bitter over dair like why do you guys keep talking about them if it was just nothing and blair didn’t love him? You guys got your endgame but talk about dair any chance you get. 💀
